A Triumph Bonneville T120 and Stanage Edge in Winter.

- A quick adventure on the Triumph Bonneville T120 to Stanage Edge.
I had planned a much longer trip on the Bonneville T120 up to the Scottish borders, taking in Keilder Forest and Holy Island over a couple of days. But the weather forecast changed and those plans were scuppered. But luckily, I live next door to the Peak District where there are roads and views to match any part of the country. So I loaded up my flask, plugged in my heated jacket and popped out for this year's first mini motorcycle adventure. I hope you enjoy it.

During winter, beautiful landscapes and quiet road are for the most courageous riders ! ✌
Don’t know about ‘courageous’, but quiet roads and beautiful views for sure!
Another beautifully shot video Matt. It's still wet and cold up here in Scotland so it's great to see the dry roads and scenery. Your Bonnie is truly lovely. Many thanks for all your hard work. Ride safe.
Glad you enjoyed it Frank, I got lucky with a dry afternoon but got soaked going home. Spring can’t come soon enough.
Once again you deliver stunning footage. The time and effort is truly appreciated. Thankyou
Thank you for the kind words Edward!

Lovely video. Well done Matt. Appreciate the effort you put into making these. Kind regards
Thanks Jan, glad you like them. Makes the effort of making them worthwhile to see folk enjoying them 😊
I consider a good mid winter ride to be a bit of a bonus - looks like that one was well worth the effort! A nicely put together video. Thank you.
I agree with you there, any clear day for riding in Jan/Feb is certainly a bonus!
There are bikes and then there are bikes. What a stunner you have there!
Thanks! I quite like it myself!
Wow! Landscapes, Music, Camera angles, everything so beautiful artistic world! Your sense is fantastic. I love it always this series! Btw, I'll rinding to my Ducati Sport Classic 1000(Yellow) in Yokohama-city Japan right now. Outdoor is so cold. いつもありがとう。
I hope you have a heated jacket! Japan looks so beautiful, I’d love to visit there some day.

What I love about this is that it’s like your own personal love letter to motorcycling. Sometimes no purpose, but always worthwhile. Great job
Glad you enjoyed the video Adam and thanks for the sub, very much appreciated! You’re right, it’s always worthwhile wheeling the bike out!

Where there's a will, there's a way! Or, in this case, where there's heated gear, there's riding! 😁
Loved the colors on this one! Thanks for sharing Matt.
50 Shades of Brown 😁. Heated gear is the best though, couldn’t do without it.

simply a biker and his bike. thank you, great video, fantastic
Thanks Alessandro, glad you enjoyed it.
Have been waiting for another video; right off, wonderful colors meet the eyes and I smile along with the music. Would love to ride those roads one day. Thanks for taking us along for the ride! Best to you, mate.
Thanks Wolf! The weather’s not been too kind to us so getting out has been tricky, hopefully calmer skies are on their way!
Fantastic film - really gets across the feel of riding in England.
The cinematography is head and shoulders above normal bike videos on You Tube.
Beautiful Bonnie too@
Thanks very much, kind of you to say 🙏
nice additions to the bike , great being out in nature , bet it was a bit cold but worth it
It sure was Stanley, I don't mind the cold so much, it's rain that makes me stay inside 😁
again a very nice video..good job.. thank you

You're blessed to have such a wonderful landscape on your doorstep. Think you need to do another painting! 🤐😉
I don’t know if I could ever top that masterpiece 😂
Let me keep this simple. As always an excellent piece of work!
Always with the nicest comments Mark!
That’s an absolute fantastic brilliant video. What an peaceful ride and great music to go along. Simple and less is the meaning of this video. Brilliant job mate.

You should Richie, it's a beautiful area, just don't go on a weekend in summer! 😁
Another beautiful video mate.
Thanks Stephen! 🙏
another great ride
Glad you liked it 👊
Stanage Edge and Bamford Edge are beautifully scenic all year round. I’ll never tire from going up there
Made the mistake of riding up there one Sunday, cars abandoned everywhere and large groups of people blocking the road
Luckily I’m retired so have the opportunity of going midweek
Love your videos 👍
I know how you feel, I've realised that there's no chance to make films on weekends because of the number of people everywhere, early hours on weekdays are the best time for riding I think, filming or not. Glad you like the videos!
Great video, beautiful motorcycle, style of life.
Thanks! 🙏🏻
if i haven't bought the t100 in black matte, your bike combination was my the second choice.beautiful color and "parts".awesome bike.
The matte black was my second option 😁. Any Bonneville is a good Bonneville though.
I have a habit of hitting like before watching your latest video. Never disappointed!
Well I appreciate your confidence Rick! Hopefully I won't lay a stinking egg any time soon...
Matt thanks for posting beautiful video have to admit hardcore triumph in here that helped make my day
Happy to have been of service Jim! 😁
Beautifully filmed. Really cool. And awesome bike.
Thanks Ricardo 🙏
Really nice bike, and video!
Thanks, glad you liked it!
I ride that route practically every time I go out on the Triumph, it's a nice run, then up over the Strines to Langsett. I used to enjoy riding the dirt bike from Redmires, up to Stanage Edge proper, then down Long Causeway, until the self centred NIMBY's got it closed to motorised traffic. Happy days.
At least you got a chance to ride it, I’d have loved to have ridden that trail. Still, the roads are pretty good to ride so long as it’s not the weekend.
Great ride at amazing place !!!!
It’s a great spot that I need to explore more I think!
Great channel btw, mine’s very similar to yours 👍 Nothing quite like exploring the British countryside on a Bonnie.
@@ClassicRides Thx , 👍 RUclips is not my favourite place to post , you are welcome to Triumph Around the United Kingdom on my Facebook 👍🔥 Wish you plenty phototravel shots and safe roads 👍👍👍

Love the attention to detail 👍 Cool Merlin boots
Thanks, I really like them too. I got them as new old-stock, shame Merlin doesn’t make these boots any more.
Hello Mat! Another great video of you and your Bonneville. It's balm for my soul. Thanks a lot for this. Kind regards, Burkhard from Frankfurt/ Main, Germany. Bye.✌
Hey Burkhard, glad the videos are doing you some good!

Everytime I watch your videos it make me regret getting rid of my Bonneville. You've done such a great job with your bike.
Thanks, what did you get in place of your Bonnie?
@@ClassicRidesmy garage was too crowded with the 2014 T100 and 2019 Kawasaki Versys 1000. I kept the sports tourer..

Another corker Matt! Heres to an early end to winter!
I’m with you there Andy! Roll on Spring.
Es hermoso el invierno y la moto
Thank you 🙏
Morning. I think I spied two new things on the Bonnie…..1/ usb connector & 2/ new seat 👍
Almost! The seat I’ve had for a while, it was just away having a bit more padding put in, but so glad to have it back now. And the usb is actually the auxiliary power socket that’s hidden away under the tank normally. Don’t know why Triumph chose not to tell people about it, it’s super handy for plugging things like heated jackets, usbs and battery tenders in.
Your bike is sober and elegant for a gentleman rider !
Thank you Fran 🏍💨
Hi Matt ! Miss you ...i’m happy to watch your vidéo ....one word beatiful .... sorry for my bad english ! I was a bad student 😉 Bye Fran
Hey Fran, your English is better than a lot of English people I know! Glad you enjoyed the new video 🙂

Thanks Flavio, it's a takes a little work as I'm still learning, but it's worth it to end up with a nice video :)
@@ClassicRides are you kid me? You are a professional:)
Ah thanks, you’re too kind!
I've only just now discovered your channel through this video and I'm immediately a fan (and new subscriber). Absolutely love what you've done with your Bonneville and will be trawling through your other videos to see if I can find the details of that flyscreen and those perfectly apt pannier bags and racks (unless you can point me in the right direction here).
Ooops! Just read the "more" info in this video. All questions answered. :)
Ah that’s good Joe, saved me having to write the website address. Glad you’ve been liking the videos 👍

Hey Fernando 👋
What a pleasant surprise to find someone else with such good taste sharing motorcycle content. Loved the video from start to finish, I'd only include the sound of the engine if you don't mind me giving some feedback, but I know it's hard to record good audio. you got yourself one more subscriber.
Hey thanks dude. You're clearly a skilled videographer, your videos are great. My bike is very quiet so recording the engine sound over the wind is quite hard, but I agree, it would be better to have more engine sound in them. I've subscribed to you too, looking forward to watching more of your videos.
@@ClassicRides I just read my previous comment and realized it sounded like I too was "someone with good taste sharing motorcycle content" :D I meant to say I was glad to find one more channel doing such quality content (not including myself, but people like "Unroof" in Japan). Cheers Matt! will be following you closely. May ask what jacket are you wearing? Looked warm enough for winter!
@@1000psespanol You are a man of good taste though, you subscribed to my channel! 😁. The jacket is from a London designer called Ashely Watson, it's called the Eversholt Mk 2, there should be a link in the description to it. As well as looking great, it's AAA rated so it's as safe a jacket as you're going to get.
@@ClassicRides hahaha clearly a man of good taste! ups, my bad, I did check the description but I thought it had ended at the last paragraph :D thank you! That's one beautiful piece of gear
Great video and editing, I sometimes wish I'd picked the bonnie over my trident but being a newish rider the trident seems a bit more manageable for me, hopefully my next bike will be.
I’m a new rider too, the Bonneville’s are really forgiving for new riders I’d say, so don’t let that put you off. The Trident’s a great bike though, I’m sure you’re pleased with it 😊
@@ClassicRides yes very pleased with it just waiting for the weather to turn a bit better then I'll be enjoying the Derbyshire roads aswell, keep up the good video's.
I like it
Glad you do.
@@ClassicRides sure, I’m from Indonesia. My name is mohaa. I'm trying to be a RUclipsr like you and I like ride too
I ride a T120 in Thailand. It’s interesting to see people riding it in totality different settings and conditions. Makes me want to experience the ride with actual gear on. I wonder how it feels. Nice video. Thx
It feels safe 😁. I'd love to ride my Triumph through Thailand though, you have an amazing country.

I have a Triumph and sometimes wish it had a kick start to make it more authentic
It’d be a fun thing to have for sure.
Great motorbike and great video! Where did you find that wonderful auxiliary spotlight??
Thanks! 🙏 I got the light from a motorcycle breaker on eBay, so I’m not 100% what it’s from, though I’m fairly sure it’s come off a Harley.
I've been watching your videos for a long time. Congratulations for the channel! I really enjoy them. I have a T120 and I wonder if the flyscreen you are using is useful for the wind, what would you say? I notice than when I drive above 120km/h the wind is kind of annoying and not sure if that kind of flyscreen can help to reduce it...it looks small compared with the dart one for example. Thanks a lot and drive safe!!
Hi Eduardo. The Motone screen I have doesn’t really do much above 120kph, below that it maybe smooths out the airflow a bit, but it’s more for looks than practicality. With the T120 being a naked bike I’m not sure there’s much you can do to prevent wind at that sort of speed, maybe one of the large screens by Givi or Triumph’s own touring screen might be a better option, I haven’t tried them though so I can’t tell you if they’re good or not.
Hey Matt, love your videos man, very inspiring and makes me want to ride my bike even more. Was just wondering what tires you have on your bike in this clip, I have a T100 and gonna charge the tires and I’m looking for some really good allround ones, I’m located in Sweden and our weather seems to be not very different than yours, thanks in advance
Hi Robert, glad you’re liking the videos. In this one the bike has a set of Pirelli MT60RS on. They’re really good tyres, the only downside is they don’t come in standard sizes so you have to go one side wider and one size smaller on the sidewall height, on both front and rear. Some garages will not fit them as they say they won’t fit the bike, I didn’t have any issues though. The other negative is they don’t last long, I got about 3k miles out of a rear and about 6.5k on a front. I use Avon Spirit ST’s now which are great 👍
What kind of bags are they? Love your bike, super job!
Thanks David, they're actually my bags. I've started to sell some in limited numbers as a way to help the channel. If you'd like some more info and photos, there's a link in the description to them. :)
Once again, thanks for taking us with you.
I just realised, have you put on handlebar raisers?
Yes I put the Motone Up&Over’s on, so they’re one inch higher and one inch further back.just made the bike a bit more comfortable, for me anyway.
@@ClassicRides Great when you feel even more comfortable now. Any complications with the wiring due to the raisers? or was enough "wire" there?
@@SteakOSaurier No problems at all as far as my experience goes.
Utterly beautiful and peaceful. Do you mind if I ask which bar end mirrors you have? I know they are Triumph OEM but not sure which model. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed the video. Honestly I’d struggle to tell you the model of the mirrors, I picked them up off eBay a while ago so I’ve really no idea 😁. Sorry!
@@ClassicRides No problem :)
Nice ride. I like the auxiliary headlamp on your engine guard. Do you have one on both sides? Seems i only saw one. I think they're a great idea for added visibility. Though I see people still tend to pull out in front of u. Your 120 is decked out a lot like my 2005 t100. Cept I don't have crash bars and my fly shield isn't aluminum like yours. Thanks for the ride.
You clearly have good taste Peter! 😁. It’s just got one spotlight, I don’t know why but I prefer one instead of two.
Excellent. First class. What saddle bags are they please?
Hi again Steve, the bags are my own ones actually. I sell them as a way to help fund the channel. If you'd like more info on them, you can find them in the shop section on my website www.classic-rides.co.uk
Great video, really enjoyed it ! May i ask where you bought the auxiliary headlamp. It looks great and id love one for my T120,cheers.
Hi Noel, I think it came off a Harley, though I can't be sure. I bought the light from a breaker on eBay so I've no idea what it is really, sadly there aren't any manufacturer marks on it either. I reckon you could probably find something similar by searching for a chrome 5" spotlight. Though you'll have to find a bracket, switch and wiring loom to go with it.
@@ClassicRides Thanks for the heads up,i will keep searching, keep up the good work !
Hi mate, nice video and a nice Bonnie. May I ask how you find the handlebar risers? Much difference in handling control in the twisties? and or just more comfortable in the arm and hand position? I’m considering putting a set onto my T100. Many thanks, Jamie
Thanks Jamie, I wouldn’t say they improve handling at all, it’s just a little easier on my lower back. I’m not a massively tall person so for me it helps with reach to the bars. I’d say most people would find the raised and back position a little comfier though.
@@ClassicRides Thank you for the reply. I’m 5:10 and happy enough with the stock bars. I’m considering but not sure. I am planing to tour Wales in June for a week so if it improves comfort then I might just get them fitted.
Very nice video. I have one question related to the panniers : would they fit on on Street Twin 2022? Do I need any accessory to adapt ?
You would most likely need pannier rails to stop the bags from swinging into your wheel, but it hard to say since there’s an infinite number of ways people set up the rear of their bikes 😊
@@ClassicRides Thanks for prompt answer 🙂.
@@jacquesrodier9984 if you have a look at the pictures on the website, there are some photos of the back of the bags which show how the straps attach to it, so hopefully it’ll give you a better idea of how or if they’ll fit your bike. There’s a link in the description of you want to have a look 😊
I really like your videos. thank you. I also like a lot of your gear but can't find it listed. I'm sure i'm just missing it. What is your helmut? Goggles? thanks.
Hi David, the helmet is a Hedon Hedonist and the googles are Leon Jeantet Aviator Goggles 🤓
@@ClassicRides Picking up my t120 jet black next week. I've watched scores of videos but yours always stick out. thanks. Eagerly awaiting my motorcycle.
Nice video, what's the luggage you have on your panniers? Look easy to install n remove. And what seat model are those?
Hi James, glad you liked the video. The seat is custom made by Tom Hurley Customs and the bags are my own, if you’d like more information on them, you can find them on my website www.classic-rides.co.uk/shop 😊
Looks cold. Wear your goggles 😉
It was cold! I do wear my Google’s,but under about 20mph there’s no need, I can go that fast on a push bike 😁
Lovely video. I live in Derby and often drift up the A6 through Chatsworth to that area.
What neck tube have you got?
That’s a lovely ride up through Chatsworth. The neck tube/face mask is from Rare Bird London, it’s really good at keeping the cold off your face, would definitely recommend one.
Thanks for the prompt reply.
Won’t be going out on my RE 650 today. Heavy rain overnight and still raining. Need to keep it tucked up in the garage!!!
Definitely not a day for riding!
