my experience with the t120 black is, that it´s harder to keep clean than a chrome one. every rain shower turn the black parts to grey and you have to clean it really often and need some colour-refreshing fluids like S100 black shine or equals. my honda cb sevenfifty with much more chrome parts was easier to clean. on the other hand - i like the adventure look of the black. and if it´s a little bit dirty, the scrambler tires suites better. :D :D :D i totally agree with you in terms of safe riding. we should always try to drive in our comfort zone and be patient. i think if you figured out your comfort speed, then you have more resources to pay attention to your surroundings and you are able to react better when mistakes happen. when i drive with folks, who have more fun by driving faster, i let them go and meet them at the next cafe. and if not - who cares - it´s my life, it´s my way to live and ride.
That's exactly how I feel Onkel, if I'm in a group I'm more than happy if they zip away and I'll catch them up later. Riding your own way is the only way 👍🏻
Great Q&A in beautiful surroundings. Your Classic 350 looks stunning! And thank you for including and answering my question. I'm looking forward to you touring on it 😊👍🏼
Hi, Matt, great video, love to see the Royal Enfield and have just come back to watching the channel, I am an older rider (50+) and only had my licence for just over 12 months. I live in Brisbane Australia, and found your channel when I started riding. I have a RE Hunter 350, blue and white, RE does build really good-looking classic motorbikes. It is my first bike and love it, not a powerhouse at all but a great commuter and weekend ride. My Christmas gift last year was "The Day Tripper Motorcycle Pannier Bag 10L - Black", love it works well just need to replace the main zip (broke) otherwise great product. Thanks again for the videos, keep the camping videos, they are great, Cheers Chris
Hi Chris, glad you’re back watching the channel, but sorry to hear your bag zip broke. Could you send an email to matt@classic-rides.co.uk and I’ll see what I can do to help.
Love the Royal Enfield 😍 would love to see a 750cc . My 2011Triumph Bonneville has 65000 miles and runs perfectly. With proper service intervals l think a Bonneville is capable of 250k or more.
Totally agree on the camping advice, keep it simple and make sure the tent is pleasant enough to be in if you have to spend time in it, and to be freestanding ideally. Smaller kit will cost more and there will inevitably be a compromise somewhere. I have a naturehike cloud up 2 tent and for me it’s the perfect balance of tiny pack size yet cheap and super comfortable. Great waffle, thanks
Hi matt good to see another video from you. The RE and the T120....nice mix.....25.000 thats a lot of riding.....bought my T100 new in 2020.....just hit 8.000mls And I am retired....your getting good use out of your T120 Matt. My mate 76...just bought a 400 scrambler.....bags of power.....he needed something lighter.....he love it. Love the size of the RE front mudguard....much better than the silly T100/T120 offereng.
Thanks Nick, yes I've been piling the miles on the T120 so the Classic means I can slow it down a bit. I really like the 400 scrambler, it's a little too tall to be comfortable with my short legs though, which is a shame. And I also love the mudguards on the Classic, other brands would do well to take notice.
Good to see you out with Donkey even if it is for a little ride and chat. I'm heading down your way this week to the Lakes then Peaks with a friend and his buddy for a long weekend. I'm looking forward to getting away from it all, having a chat and a beer in good company. I'll try bring you some sunshine Matt.
I think you might have won the weather bingo as it's supposed to be quite nice here this week. I hope you have a great time and the rain stays off for your trip 🤞🏻
Hi Matt! After riding to northern Italy from south Wales in 3 days, 4 days back, I 100% agree with you on blasting through countries! I did it on my Tiger 1050 and I was knackered! If I ever do it again, it will be off motorways, a lot more days and on a modern classic. I got back a few days ago and am already looking for one! Cheers Matt!
Sounds like you saw some good motorways Jer 😁 I think going slower is probably going to my modus operandi going forward, it's better to actually see the places you pass through I think.
@@ClassicRides me too. I did go through some stunning villages in Germany and Austria and the Alps are just incredible. Definitely worth taking more time. 👍
Hi Matt. All good with the tips. Those were some good questions. I've been doing this since the early seventies. Gone through a lot of changes. People today have multitudes of choices. Buy used, think backpack size, weight and keep it damn simple. See what you like. Go to a rally and check out the other attendees and see what they have, like and use often. Photography, 66 years since I took my first shot. Still have the print. I made a living at it several years. The scene, keep the subject in the third and on the side. Balance the vision, like you were doing the valley was the lead into the distance. The bike seat gave a good border stop for the left side. You were in the frame top to bottom without cut off feet and some clouds and sky over head. Those people just kept coming. Close the road next time. Good editing with the verbiage and cutting them out. Privacy is big, sure some stopped to chat. Nice jacket. The RE, my local dealer had a three thousand US dollar markup on the price. So I'll find another. I have many bikes. I like one I can get the most out of and use the machine to it's fullest and not hurt it. Those bikes are comfortable. I have carpal tunnel bad in both hands so smooth is premier. Very suitable for the roads you are on and I wouldn't hesitate to put a set of 30/70 tires on it and hit the hard pack gravel of the Isles and on to North Cape. Hope you ride it up there. Will it support heated grips with the correct voltage? They are a must about all the time for me. Therapeutic. All good mate. See you next time. It's like the Sahara here. All good from east Kentucky USA Take care ride safe
Thanks Sam, yes I'd like to put some heated grips on the 350 as I use the ones on the T120 all the time, but it's quite a small battery so I'm not sure how it'll take it. Wish I could've closed the road off, but I imagine the locals would have a thing or two to say if I tried it 😁. Nice that you noticed the framing on my shots, though I should've placed camera back a few inches as I cut my feet off in a few moments. But always nice to have the effort appreciated 👍🏻
Nice vid, Matt. Glad you're getting enough popularity to need a Q&A! Totally agree on your take of Royal Enfield. They saved a classic British make that we would have abandoned and lost and they are saving one big aspect of motorcycling that needs to return: Common sense. Vehicles that are functional and affordable. And they are doing it with way more style than is strictly necessary, so doubly admirable. I have a Triumph Speedmaster and it is awesome and I love it, but I am still sorely tempted by a Bullet 350 because it would be just as comfy and characterful (in a different way) and, as you feel too, if there were a new Bullet 500 I would be more than tempted. Power-wise the only reason I would like bigger than the RE 350 is I am a big guy and would like to be able to pillion the missus abroad as well. This _could_ be done on the RE 350, but a 500 make things easier. I would be planning non-motorway roads, anyway, but wouldn't want to get stuck in amongst vans and lorries, so a little more power would mean an 'easier' ride without compromising the advantages of a 'small' capacity bike. To be honest I am _still_ considering the Bullet 350, but I'm in no hurry, since RE might be producing a 450, 500 or 650 version soon (also Triumph is rumoured to be making a more classic version of their 400... Maybe even Speedmaster configured...)
I think for the main market it's aimed at (India) the 350 is more than enough, but for our western roads just a smidgen more power to better cope with the faster roads would be ideal, and obviously they made a 500 Bullet for many years so I don't see why they couldn't make another. But it's still a lovely bike to ride, I don't think you'd be unhappy with one, especially at the price they sell for 👍🏻
Very informative matt thanks for your explanation re lack of T120 appearances fully understand Did chuckle when you were talking about camping Have to say I admire anyone that's done those big miles on any bike let alone an older 865 Trouble is you make the camping thing look so effortless Looking forward to those European trips thanks matt
Oh me too, I have massive respect for Freddie for riding his broken Bonnie all the way to the Sahara, he's got an adventurous spirit for sure. I think I'd just like to see him do camping better, because he is very influential and he's making moto-camping look rubbish 😁
Glad you like it, the light is an old 1970's Lumax fog light that I bought on ebay, then using a simple modern spotlight wiring harness it's just rigged up to the battery and a simple switch on the handlebar. As well as looking cool, I like that the unusual light pattern might make me more visible in bad light conditions, I think it might catch the eye of car drivers a bit more than just one light.
Hi, Matt. I hope you're keeping well, and thank you for taking the time to make and upload yet another great video. That beautiful Classic 350 - have you had chance to take it on a motorway? If so, how has it coped with those speeds for sustained periods? Looking forward to hearing from you soon. Take care of yourself, and ride safely. Neil.
Glad you liked it Neil. Yes I rode the 350 from Holy Island back down to near Manchester mostly on motorways. 60/65mph is where it's happiest, but I did do an hour or two at max speed of around 72mph and it was ok to be honest. Overtaking requires a bit more planning but once you get used to it it's totally fine, you just can't sit out in the fast lane for very long 😁
@@ClassicRides Hi, Ian. Thanks for your prompt reply. When you did your 2hr stretch at around 72mph, did you get the feeling that the engine was at all stressed, and on the verge of conking out, or did it leave you with the impression that it could have gone on a lot further (despite being on the very edge of its performance envelope)? 🙂
@@neilyplim It feels like there's more in it, not a lot as you definitely know you're at the top end of it's performance but it's not too bad. I believe some folk have found that by swapping out the throttle body to the one from the Hntr, it increases the limiter to around 78mph, which might be the thing to do if you do a lot of motorway rides.
Really useful information there Matt cheers….I’m currently having a bit of a nightmare with cameras and now audio so really interesting what you said about the insta X4 which I’d never really considered
I've been watching your camera woes Dave, I believe there's going to be a new version of the Ace Pro coming out at the end of October which should address the close focus issue, so that might be the one to fix all your problems; might be worth waiting for.
Matt, your vlogs are always enjoyable and I’m looking forward to your next trip out under canvas… maybe take Donkey to northern France ? And as for Freddie Dobbs… he’s wonderful in his own chaotic way … I guess it’s his youth that he has on his side that enables him to be a little more “off piste” with his camping exploits !! Either way… you are both brilliant to watch.. maybe a road trip and meet up FD to get him to try slow up a bit! Take care Matt 🙏🏻
A trip to northern France on Donkey was in the plans for this year, and if by some miracle it stops raining long enough I'd still like to get that one ticked off, so all my fingers are crossed for that one. I very much enjoy Freddie's videos so I genuinely mean no disrespect to him, but he is making a bit of a hash of camping and the end result of him not enjoying it is not so surprising, which is what I was trying to say really. I'd very much like to meet him one day, I think there's a video or two that could be made between us.
Lovely scenic view, Matt! Love these talks as well. I think many wouldn't mind these (waffles?) I'm American, so I'm not familiar with that term. But these sit downs. You have a great way of presenting content in such a lovely way, and it is calming. In a world where videos are over stimulated and everyone is in a rush and flashy colors and so-called music blasting in the background, your videos are a breath of fresh country air. Thank you. P.S. Miss seeing the Bonneville T120 and... May you please reach out to Freddie Dobbs for a collab? ...While you're at it, you could guide him in the venture of moto camping. He mentioned he did like it in his recent video. He is a very nice man from all appearances and seems awfully humble. Like you. I think many would love to see you gentlemen do a collab. Perhaps a cinematic motocamping one too. Or just riding for coffee. Many would enjoy the collab regardless. People have commented your name over on Freddie's channel several times.
Thanks Roy and don't worry, the T120 will back just as soon as I get her running properly again. Yes I agree Freddie does seem like a lovely chap, if ever an opportunity arises for us to work together on something I'd be all for it, though I suspect that's unlikely to happen.
@ClassicRides The Royal Enfield is a beauty to behold as well. I watched your video entirely until the rain was coming, as you said at the end. Are you and Freddie in opposite directions in the UK?
@@Roy_Camachoyes Freddie (when he’s in the UK) is based near London, in the South. I’m near Manchester in the North. Just geographically it’d tough to get us together on a project, but you never know 🙂
@ClassicRides Ah, I see. That makes perfect sense now. Yes, Lord willing in the future, perhaps. Thank you, Matt. I look forward to your next videos. Also, about that riding gear video, you could film that indoors if it rains for too long. Just a thought. Nevertheless, your video is going to be an enjoyment to watch.
You sometimes wonder 🤔 that Freddie might be just teasing us with he's nievety in buying the tent and other mechanical suff😆 but I'm a huge fan of Freddie and Monica. Freddie includes other people, towns, villages, art, bikes, cars. He's communication skills are very high as are yours Matt. Your csmping videos are excellent, extremely professional 👏 carried out with military precision. You could quite easily be a camping guru on RUclips. I'd like to see more variety on your channel, now that I've seen how well you communicate. Excellent narrative 👏
Thanks Mike, I’m a big fan of Freddie & Monica too, he’s a natural in front of a camera. If he’d have been born 10 years earlier he’d have been a good telly presenter. Personally I’m not so comfortable talking in front of the camera, even in real life I tend to be fairly quiet, waffling for hours on film is not really in my skill zone 😁 But we all do our channels differently, I’ll do more talking videos in the future but mostly it’ll be my usual visual-music only efforts.
@ClassicRides the music and serenity works a treat and speaks far more than all the other waffle . I should have known better being a guitarist. You say it best When you say nothing at all.
This advice about cameras would have been a massive help saviour last year ,when I brought my stuff . I'm struggling with exactly what you said about editing and uploading stuff . So many videos Iv got but keeps wanting to crash . And it really does want to make you throw it out . Top advice for newbies. And who cares if people think you're following a Trend. if you love the bike that's all that matters mate . You do you and enjoy it 😉 👍
Try changing your video format to H.265 if it's on H.264 in your camera, it's a bit easier for editing software to handle. Most times though upgrading your computer is the only way to get through the large file sizes of modern cameras, which can be an expensive pill to swallow.
@@ClassicRides il try that out thanks man . I'm thinking of upgrading to the insta360 X4 .do you have any recommendations what laptop you would for editing and stuff ? Thanks for the advice much appreciated
@@Rawrides_uk_I’d struggle to give you good advice on that I’m afraid. Personally I have a decent iMac because of my work, which just happens to be good for video work also. But I’m not too up on other recent tech that’d be good to buy.
I'm afraid I can't as I just bought it off ebay. It's a Lumax light from the 70's though, not sure which model number but there's usually a few to be found online. Fitting was quite easy as you can buy pre-made wiring looms on Amazon for spotlights; I'm by no means good at electrics so if I can do it anyone can.
Completely agree about the chin mounted cameras. I have a C5 helmet and the flip lid just doesn’t work with the weight. I have been using a chest Mount for a few months now and am very happy with it. Have a Leica camera and have had Panasonic LUMIX with the Leica lens. Superb lens.
Great video Matt! The RE looks awesome and the choice of place for this one was very good. It looks like the RE e is the right choice for this type of scenario and riding. 1 question pls. do you have any video on how to edit the footage of the Insta 360 that then shows the whole 360 degrees on the video, eg.. is it through a combination of frames or a setting on the camera? Thank you for replying! 👍👍
Hi Nelio, I don't have any videos on that with the X4 yet, but I might do in the future if it's of interest to people. Usually for the full 360 shots I just have the camera in 360 mode, then I'll use the Insta Studio app on my Mac to reframe the footage to how I want, once that's done I can export it for use in Resolve when making my final video edit. It's a lot of extra work but the results can be worth it I think.
Thanks John, it's the little road that goes from Errwood Reservoir up to the Cat & Fiddle, there's a small bridge where you have to cross over the stream just at the end of the one way section, which is where this is.
Hi Matt excellent video as usual I remember talking to you about what extension you used to get the mirror shot (looking back ) and I forgot and have been looking around for it. Is it possible to send me a link please. After you recommendation I bought myself a chest mount, great bit of kit.Thank you in advance Matt keep up the excellent work
No problem sir, if you have a look at this link: www.amazon.co.uk/shop/classicrides/list/1V295PP5CMQ46?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_aipsflist_aipsfclassicrides_QRR2QZW9C1FJ2EAVT4BG the RAM mounts that I use are there. You'll need the long arm, the tough claw and the GoPro adaptor 👍🏻
On the T120 you can't, the bike needs to be trailered away. ON the Classic I believe the tube can be taken out and repair at the side of the road, but personally I would just have it collected and taken to a garage to fit a new tube.
Questions ? Yes, can you find someone who is 6'4'' tall with a 34'' inside leg and get them to comment on how well they fit on the Classic? My nearest 2 dealers are 260 miles away so I have been unable to test it out.
I'm afraid that I don't know anyone that tall, however if you have a look at @MrDarcy-OlMan channel, the 'old man' is quite a large chap and he seems to like the 350 very much.
Hi Les, no I’m afraid I haven’t got your messages. Sometimes it holds back messages that have links in, but your messages aren’t in the area those messages get sent to either.
I’ll try again then, I agree with your reasons for getting the Enfield in regards to the mileage on the Bonnie & I think it’s a great choice. When you said in your introductory video “look at her she is beautiful” I thought yes she is, I have had half an eye on them for a while so much so that I should be taking delivery of 1 the same colour this week. It’s a 24 with 1200 miles & has had the camshaft & cat delete pipe added along with a few other extras which gives it an extra 5bhp in the bottom & mid range (I still have the Speed Twin) but I’m thinking when it gets a bit of a struggle for me I will have the Classic
@@lesperchard3793the shocks are from Hagon, they’re lowered as I’ve short legs and they’re just a bit better than the stock springs anyway. The crash bars are from SW Motech, all the other bars I’ve seen for the 350 stick out a country mile, but these are quite discrete.
25000miles on a T120 and not frequent driving it because it won't last and 3times more expensive as the Classic 350 which is advised to be revised at 100.000km, downgrading to a t120(premium) vs Classic(budget) doesn't add up. The Classic has euro5 engine(FI, cat), decent brakes,ABS and USB What would one expect from a classic design? I'd expect many retro bikes are set up similar. This is poor comment for both brands, I'd never buy a Triumph that'll last so little milage. thx for the insight. Griso and J350 owner
I think either I haven't explained properly or you've misunderstood. The T120 is far from being worn out, but at the current rate that I'm adding miles to it, I'll be up to 100,000 miles in the next three years, and I want to keep the bike for longer than that. So having the second bike will help keep the T120 running for longer in terms of years, not milage. Having the Classic 350 as a second bike to the T120 makes perfect sense and judging by the amount of people I now know have these two bikes, it seems that I'm not alone in thinking this. I'm not sure I understand your point on the specs of the Classic, I didn't mention anything about what it comes equipped with?
@@ClassicRides I'm not splitting hairs now ,but the J350 engine isnt old technology just like any retro bike it's euro5 compliant and a recent design. I've been keen on RE for 30years now but on the J350 they really catched up in quality and got me the 2024 redchrome with drive belt kit. On my Classic I have a chopper cruising mentality, 62mph is good enough not bothering everybody is passing me(so I have not to switch any lane). Swichting back a gear on a climb is totally fine and on this bike, it's rewarded with high mpg. It'll be hard to justify trading her in for the coming 500 for little more performance vs mpg. IMO the strongest point of the Classic is it's classic appearance. Trafficers do not expect it to be fast and do take proper distance when overtaking and do expect 62mph to be normal for a bike like this. Seems they think it has poor brakes as well because the do keep proper distance! For this reason a Scram411 or Meteor might feel one is the hunted on a highway. On a Classic, I feel very comfortable on a highway. Not sure if this is of all the chrome.
@@electrobob1 I don't disagree with you at all, I think we're on the same page about how good the Classic is. I just mean relative to modern bikes with riding modes, ride by wire, slipper clutches, traction control etc.. it's quite a basic bike, but I think that's a great thing. If anything I think it being a more basic/proper bike makes you a better rider in the end.
@@BulletBeena That's the best attitude I think, it's how I feel about my videos; and to be fair most of the biggest moto-channels are just single camera/talking videos, so maybe it's me that's doing it wrong 😁

Thanks Matt for the answers 🥰
No worries!
About a month ago I bought a 28L bag from you. I'm very satisfied with the purchase. 👍
Thanks Daniel, I'm so glad to hear the bag is serving you well 👍🏻
Thanks for answering my question, much appreciated! 👍 Chrome it is then. Just the choice between bronze and red to make now 🙂

It’s an Ashley Watson Eversholt Mk2 jacket, very good indeed 👌
@@ClassicRides Ahh yes, recognise it now. Quality! Thanks for reply.
@@ClassicRides hard to do by yourself. Record review reset. You can use markers. It's just not easy unless you go to full frame.
But it's still a lovely bike to ride, I don't think you'd be unhappy with one, especially at the price they sell for 👍🏻
Very informative matt thanks for your explanation re lack of T120 appearances fully understand
Did chuckle when you were talking about camping
Have to say I admire anyone that's done those big miles on any bike let alone an older 865
Trouble is you make the camping thing look so effortless
Looking forward to those European trips thanks matt
Oh me too, I have massive respect for Freddie for riding his broken Bonnie all the way to the Sahara, he's got an adventurous spirit for sure. I think I'd just like to see him do camping better, because he is very influential and he's making moto-camping look rubbish 😁

@@IanClarke-bi3se you may be right there Ian.
Hey Matt, great ride. I also love the fog light, can you give more information? I've not seen it done on one side like that. Very cool.
@@ClassicRides Thanks, Matt. All the best 🙂
I too have a Bonneville and a bronze 350. I always use GT85 and muc off speed polish. 👍
I think having both these bikes is a great combination, you clearly have very good taste 😁
@ClassicRides cheers Matt that sounds like a good plan and is certainly the way I’m minded to go now 😊
Matt, your vlogs are always enjoyable and I’m looking forward to your next trip out under canvas… maybe take Donkey to northern France ? And as for Freddie Dobbs… he’s wonderful in his own chaotic way … I guess it’s his youth that he has on his side that enables him to be a little more “off piste” with his camping exploits !! Either way… you are both brilliant to watch.. maybe a road trip and meet up FD to get him to try slow up a bit! Take care
Matt 🙏🏻
A trip to northern France on Donkey was in the plans for this year, and if by some miracle it stops raining long enough I'd still like to get that one ticked off, so all my fingers are crossed for that one.
I very much enjoy Freddie's videos so I genuinely mean no disrespect to him, but he is making a bit of a hash of camping and the end result of him not enjoying it is not so surprising, which is what I was trying to say really. I'd very much like to meet him one day, I think there's a video or two that could be made between us.
Love your videos matt even i ride a classic 350 but its the older one with the kickstarter

Personally I’m not so comfortable talking in front of the camera, even in real life I tend to be fairly quiet, waffling for hours on film is not really in my skill zone 😁
But we all do our channels differently, I’ll do more talking videos in the future but mostly it’ll be my usual visual-music only efforts.

Hi Matt, Great video. Could you please provide a link that great looking fog light you have fitted to the LH Crash bar. Was fitting it difficult?
I'm afraid I can't as I just bought it off ebay. It's a Lumax light from the 70's though, not sure which model number but there's usually a few to be found online. Fitting was quite easy as you can buy pre-made wiring looms on Amazon for spotlights; I'm by no means good at electrics so if I can do it anyone can.
@@ClassicRides Hi Matt, Thanks for reply, I’ll keep my eye out on eBay for one. Keep up the good work on your channel.

Hey would love if you teach how to throttle the reborn
Awesome sound.
@@ClassicRides great, thanks for the reply Matt! 👍👍

Actually it's the Goyt Valley, but it looks very similar to the Forest of Bowland in places.

It is indeed, just up the road from Errwood Hall.
Could you say which panniers you have please?
Yes they’re my own, you can find more info on them here: www.classic-rides.co.uk 👍
IF the tire is flat how do you fix it?
On the T120 you can't, the bike needs to be trailered away. ON the Classic I believe the tube can be taken out and repair at the side of the road, but personally I would just have it collected and taken to a garage to fit a new tube.
Please tell me your bike mirror model
It's from Hitchcocks Motorcycles 👍🏻
I love my Classic 350, but I live in Southern California, and it is much too slow for where I live. I would much prefer a #royalenfield Classic 650. 🙂

Hi brother.
Do you feel you butt hurt after 1-1.5Hrs of riding this bike ??
What are your recommendations ?
Personally I feel no pain from riding all day, and that’s with the standard seat, it’s very comfortable 👍

Also I was going to ask you what rear shocks & crash bars have you fitted?
Regards
Les
@@lesperchard3793wonderful news Les, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it as much as I enjoy mine 👍
