Kia and Hyundai cars are really improving year by year. I had the 2011 Honda Civic and Switch to Kia Cerato/Forte this year and felt no regret. I mean, boy its fun to drive and worth the price. Great Job Kia and Hyundai!
As an avid follower of Fifth Gear, I'm glad to see our own Malaysian version type of the similar show. Overall good idea and the show itself looks good and enjoyable. Keep up the good work guys!.. You just got another new follower :) ...
When Harvinder was complaining about the lack of power in the Civic, the Eco-mode was switched on. I bet he'll say differently when it's off; I experienced it countless times.
I'm commenting from three different owners I know....a kia owner told that his car has sunroof problems after a few years. For ford it has a gearbox issue just like some volkswagen, for ford it jerks on 3rd gear auto (comments from a Ford owner). For Honda they switched back from DOHC to SOHC, low rpm SOHC is good, while high revs DOHC is good...overall these 3 cars has ups & downs...
Great effort I must say but if you guys want to give true consumer advice, kindly compare more models of the same segment and not a price range. Popping out of nowhere in a Mini One and Peugeot 208 GTi in the end makes no sense and does no justice to the whole point of comparing the C-segment cars in the first place. Would be better if you guys bring in other models like the Hyundai Elantra and VW Jetta. Just my honest opinion though, no hard feelings here.
There are a few doubts though; 1. The 3 steering modes in the Cerato - did you actually test them on track (and not just highway) to analyse the difference? 2. The fuel consumption - What was it? Urban, extra-urban, combined? Or just a trip? 3. Cars handling - Have you actually tried on different routes (track) to come to that conclusion?
he is being foolish! he is lying about the feel of driving the kia cerato. i owned one since dec 18 2013 and it drives better than the elantra and civic. the flex steer preferences does add different feelings to the car and the paddle shifters makes me feel like im a race car driver. i really enjoy driving this car. and know idiot paid me to say this
wow.. didnt know the car in Malaysia are that expensive.. just to let you guys know in Brunei we can get 2.0 Civic with full body kits for $38k.. and just now i saw cerato on the newspaper the lowest monthly payment we can get is $349 per month for 7 years. well basically those 3 cars are on average of $30k.. all the functions and stuff are exactly the same too. even for audi Q5 here cost only $77k.
Honda Civic full acceleration not power? LOL u press the pedal with ECON mode on...of coz la no power...That mode is supposed to save fuel of coz no power...geez
Lancer / Inspira will have much better handling than all three cars in the video, but could't agree more that the Cerato is packed with features and that low price tag for what you get.
hello. can i have some suggestion? I'm currently evaluating two cars, mitsubishi lancer 2.0 GTE (new one) and KIA Cerato 2.0. between the two cars, which car is in pole position? Ty in advance.
I'm so excited and can't wait for the Driven #5 , this getting great ! But the thing I want to say that everyone have the different comment about the cars , sometimes I will confuse which want to hear.
in conclusion Civic the once king of this segment is outdated and even Korean Cerato now has better value for money but in the end the Peugeot 208 GTI is clear choice for this price range..well done SPOT ON!
Crazy.. seeing all Driven episodes so far it seems like they want Transmission of Ferrari, Comfort of a Rolls Royce, Engine of an Aston Martin and price of a Proton. Come on!! choose 1 car lor... its not that all companies are stupid in making their cars.
If i not mistaken for civic if you turn on the econ button it will limit the power of the engine for save fuel.maby that the honda is not in full capacity
nice try, this episode is better than last one, i like the joke when reading out comment from Paultan website, and also the sudden crash by peugeot and mini at the end which is from totally different segment. With so many "formularized" aka boring review from internet worldwide, i like this series because it helps people choosing car by eliminating/avoiding unacceptable negative points of that each model, instead of broadcasting all seems perfect yet familiar pros of each car while hiding cons. Btw frankly speaking still need some improvement on the speaking as not natural enough, which can be understood as you all are not well trained tv hosts yet, good job and keep it on~
I have been an avid fan of Paultan.org for a long time now so this web series was a breath of fresh air. Watching the last 4 episodes now I have a few comments. I will not get into the reviews because I respect your opinion as a car reviewer and to each his own. What I will get into though is the presentation of material. Unfortunately due to top gear UK the masses have huge expectations and will undoubtedly compare. I for one will admit acting is one of the most difficult things to do and it does not come naturally, practice and rehearsing is key. Harv is the most natural and is probably the best here. Another great guy is Jonathan saw him in #2 being his first one and he was natural and performed well. Unfortunately seeing Hafriz for 4 series in a row, he still seems very scripted and unnatural in front of a camera, he tries to say funny things but its not working out. Plus reading comments i know others agree a little weight loss won't hurt. Now comes Paul he is an amazing blogger and writer and all credit to what he has done for the malaysian auto web journalism. However seeing all the videos wit all due respect video presenting is not your thing, you seem very lifeless infront of a camera and your inability to pronounce the R letters is just not something for an A/V media presenter. it becomes a little funny and people don't take you seriously. Also trimming of the fat won't harm and will definitely improve your confidence. What you could do is find new talent keep Harv n Jon. Still brand it as Paultans Driven web series and become the producer for the show. You still make money and branding will make your name. That's if you want to take this show seriously. Just my 2 cents. Otherwise great effort!
The winner for this category has to be KIA K3 Cerato.. I mean i tested all this cars before and my value for money goes with the koreans,, The rides well and features are amazing.. Honda too much of hard plastic makes me feel im in a cheap car and focus feels fugly..
Very good review, I wish I would have seemed before buying a Ford Focus! They were spot on... Great car and handling... But as he said the gear box smell trouble... When you own and drive longer than just a 10-20 minutes test drive (my case)... It's confirmed to be "trouble". Noisy, unpredictable, excessive vibration and so annoying.... The worst part, no solution from Ford Malaysia! All I got after completing twice is a letter from Ford saying... It is what it is because is supposed to be fun to drive! Fun on my point of view is not having troubles with my car! DON'T BUY FORD FOCUS you are better off with a CIVIC, CERATO or ALTIS...
1. Kia Cerato/Forte 2. Honda Civic, 3. Ford Focus. My Rankings are based from Exterior and Interior Designs, then speed and driving quality. this is my own opinion only. I was tried these 3 cars in their test drive.
This show is improving IMHO. You guys have a lot of ideas to add more humors and jokes to the show, but please make it more natural and spontaneous. Nevertheless, keep it up!
These Guys Are Silly. Vtec doesnt kick in if you have the eco mode on. it even says in the manual, if you have the eco mode on, you will feel the acceleration will decrease dramatically because it becomes a fuel efficient car
This segment is way too jam packed.. There is also the lancer/inspira, mazda 3, vw jetta, hyundai elantra and the corolla. Hard to say which car is the best because of different update cycles, it's more on which car is the best when you can/need to afford it
I have test-driven all three; the Honda Civic is the most fun to drive and most practical all in all with the best fuel consumption. That said, it is quite expensive, and to be honest, none are lacking in practicality, but from a price/value standpoint, most would opt for the Kia Cerato. That said, I personally would prefer the Civic followed by the Focus; whereas the Cerato would (in my view) be better for mum and/or dad.
Bahjat Tabbara It is true that Honda is losing its racing spirit; and Hondas feel less sporty with each succeeding generation. That said, the model I tested (2015) was actually pretty good, and seems to have clawed back some of the sportiness missing in the first ninth generation Civic of 2012. The Ford Focus is losing its identity. The first generation was 'good' the second generation was 'excellent' and the third generation (shown here) is 'not so great' and in fact; I think Ford should have just tweaked the weaknesses of the second generation rather than over-doing it.
why car in malaysia is so expensive..?for civic is like 136k compare to u.s market 17k-22k if convert to malaysia ringgit still less bout 40k-48k..also got sunroof for u.s spec.
Who say 22k us conver into malaysia got 44k ? Bro please do some research. 22k conver into malaysia money like 100k+ bro. Dont make false statement. So shame loll. But i agree why haa. Malaysia is the higher tax now because of najib. It like honda city only 60k but included tax over 90+
the KIA cerato fuel economy in this video is 15.9km/l but in your other video comparing with altis and Mazda 3, the KIA gets 13km/l. That's a lot of difference!
i like the improvements i'm seeing from the first video til now. Still feels scripted but hey over time you guys will feel more natural i'm sure of it. i hope your next video would be a D seg comparison pitting the ever popular camry against its arch rival the new accord, the bringing sexy back mazda 6 and to make it interesting the 3 of them can go up against the conti D seg like the passat and 508 or the korean D seg optima and sonata. would love to see this comparison.
Wouldnt it have been more appropriate to include the Altis here? I mean, they are in the same segment. Also If I could just make a respectful suggestion; In shows like top gear and DRIVEN, the reason why people enjoy watching them is because they appear natural, and not scripted. Example, watch "Chris Harris on Cars", not a big production but massive support, why? They speak to the viewers. Its just that these reviews, as good as they are, dont seem to entertain thus causing a lack of committed support. Just my 2 cents tho
Every car has its own strenghts and drawbacks. The Koreans are getting better and better. I think those people at Honda are far too long living in the comfort zone . Feeling ang thinking their cars are better than their fellow Koreans. But just look at Samsung, the giant electronic entity . It simply outdo the japanese rivals. It's not about who do best but who learn best. Whether we like it or not...Korean cars are going to invade the world. In the 70's people said Japanese cars suck!!!! British Ford Escorts were the top pick then. How things have changed. Anyway guys I like your show!!!! Do it our Malaysian way, be polite ... What Mr Clarkson is going to say???
Yep, they did learn better especially in marketing department. Samsung is the best example of korean marketing strategies. They just put a lot of half-cooked features in their product and they use the kpop wave to show what their product can do.
Harvinder civic review "I dont feel 5he vtec kickin' in"...... Vtec is not a performance enhancer dude, variable timing valve electronic, controls your valve opening to save more fuel; as oppossed having a non-vtec engine where the valves are fully open all the time...
the current civic use sohc engine, the last gen civic use dohc....at lower speed low end power sohc provide better torque while at high end power dohc provide better torque and more power
ohc/sohc/dohc is all another different thing,...the technology that control valves is so advanced today, that single/double camshaft (that moves the valves inside the engine) is no longer significantly affect the performance or fuel consumption, unless we are talking about simple fuel injection engine with no engine management control as complicated as today.
sohc honda engine provide better fuel consumption, more lighter and more simple engine & the valve-train is lighter also...a sohc engine would have better torque on the low end (low rpm) where the dohc valve train’s weight results in lower torque. But at high engine speeds(high rpm), dohc engine’s peak torque and horsepower would be greater (the trade-off)...with the equal amount of valves sohc has better low-end torque because the valve-train package is lighter while dohc has better top-end power...
Andri Pratama Yep, this civic has economy it works opposite to performance vtec. :) "vtec kicks in" at LOW engine load to engage a cam that CLOSES an intake valve,to save fuel.
lol... I do agree, Honda has gone to the other directions with their cars. I sat in the latest Accord, and was turned off by it. too bad, the Cerato fails IIHS Small Overlap crash test. Civic and Focus pass
you will not feel vtec "kick in" on a eco vtec motor. and you shouldn´t be able to feel the "kick" if a performance vtec motor is set up correctly as Honda has thankfully started doing, that old "vtec kick" was a sales gimmick.
Kia and Hyundai cars are really improving year by year. I had the 2011 Honda Civic and Switch to Kia Cerato/Forte this year and felt no regret. I mean, boy its fun to drive and worth the price. Great Job Kia and Hyundai!
How abou 5 year after? Any problems with forte?
The show is getting much much better. Can't wait to see more!
As an avid follower of Fifth Gear, I'm glad to see our own Malaysian version type of the similar show. Overall good idea and the show itself looks good and enjoyable. Keep up the good work guys!.. You just got another new follower :) ...
2:46 "I'm going full acceleration but I don't feel VTEC kicking in"
Looking at his dashboard. Eco mode is turned on. lol
Yup.totally agree with you..havinder suppose switch off the Econ button..Econ is for effective control..duh..
Yea lol
Good job guys. Improving with every video! The interaction among the gang is getting better. Continue keeping it Malaysian!
I will go with the Kia Forte (Cerato) but you have done a big mistake, the Honda was in Eco Mode, u see the GREEN plant icon there?
Toyota Avanza 2012 vs Proton Exora Bold vs Nissan Grand Livina 2013!!!!!
I want to see that!!!
When Harvinder was complaining about the lack of power in the Civic, the Eco-mode was switched on. I bet he'll say differently when it's off; I experienced it countless times.
But it still says nothing if you compare it to a Focus.
Exactly
1:53 2 Ceratos side by side
I'm commenting from three different owners I know....a kia owner told that his car has sunroof problems after a few years. For Honda they switched back from DOHC to SOHC, low rpm SOHC is good, while high revs DOHC is good...overall these 3 cars has ups & downs...
I really enjoy your programs. Thumbs up!
The Civic is driven in Econ Mode though.
It's great how you guys brought in the extra options. I thought that the Civic would be a great first car, but now I'm starting to rethink my options.
u guys rock! i followed since #1 and its getting much much better! LOVE IT!
you drive honda civic with ECON MODE, then complain too much. Econ mode is for fuel saving mode. haiyaaa... im not satisfy with your review..
1. Ford Focus
2. Honda Civic
3. Kia Cerato
For driving dynamics, interior quality, Focus wins.
Chuck Norris reference... didn't see that coming but I like it! :D :D :D
u should off the civic econ button..then u'll feel the power..
what?? you test acceleration with civic on ECON?
good show, good review, malaysian style, love it lah!
When will there be a review of all D-seg such as 508 passat accord camry sonata k5...and so on!
There are a few doubts though;

Could you please tell me which one has more comfortable softer ride? Thank you
Honda Civic full acceleration not power? LOL u press the pedal with ECON mode on...of coz la no power...That mode is supposed to save fuel of coz no power...geez
+Awang Kimaruddin I noticed that one too. No wonder vtec isn't kicking.
+Awang Kimaruddin cant deny more...The Eco mode is just to save fuel...OFF it you'll feel the vtec...
how malaysian KIA forte now called cerato?
agree, Cerato is value buy, Korens're catching in auto
Strongly Agreed.
That is some quality video, wouldn't even guess it was 9 years ago. Shame you didn't take off.
Haha...Cerato came top and is so much more better looking and cheapest!
getting better in every show, can u guys show how practical each car for daily activity
can you review chevrolet cruze? just wannna some info about that car
Good review. Thanks for the hardwork.
Guys any new reviews on the new Kia Cerato 2019? Would love to know more about the 1.6 review before making my decision to buy 🙏🏼
Ty in advance.
do some review about the Mini Countryman and the VW Beetle pls.....
Paul , can you review Kia K5 and camry
Why is the 208 GTi NOT in episode 3 ????
love your episodes guys! very entertaining for m
I'm so excited and can't wait for the Driven #5 , this getting great !
But the thing I want to say that everyone have the different comment about the cars , sometimes I will confuse which want to hear.
hey there are many more c segment cars. how about those?
Good advice, my suggestion to compare crossover car, such as ford ecosport ,vs mitshubishi asx vs subaru xv
The Pug & mini are not c-segment sedans.. they r smaller B segments hatch. If only it includes the Pug408, Hyundai Elantra & Preve ...
Please Compare Chevrolet Sonic, New Vios, and KIa Forte?
how about peugeot 408 turbo?
in conclusion Civic the once king of this segment is outdated and even Korean Cerato now has better value for money but in the end the Peugeot 208 GTI is clear choice for this price range..well done SPOT ON!
How about Mazda 3 with SkyActive? Does it better than Kia Cerato?
in Driven #2, The Mazda CX5 beat Honda CRV.
Crazy.. seeing all Driven episodes so far it seems like they want Transmission of Ferrari, Comfort of a Rolls Royce, Engine of an Aston Martin and price of a Proton. Come on!! choose 1 car lor... its not that all companies are stupid in making their cars.
Winner is Kia Cerato!!!!
Why video occurred?
If i not mistaken for civic if you turn on the econ button it will limit the power of the engine for save fuel.maby that the honda is not in full capacity
Yup.u r right
Thanks guys much appreciated for your imput this helped me to decide.
now it's Cerato Segment. Good job KIA!

It's obvious Jonathan standing on the background at 8:29
Do the rm180k+ range
top gear malaysia? still i'd buy the focus
vtec kicking in??there is no cam phasing engagement in the normal i-vtec, dats why u dont feel it.
I have been an avid fan of Paultan.org for a long time now so this web series was a breath of fresh air. Watching the last 4 episodes now I have a few comments.
WOW Jonathan CAN DRIVE!!
This show is improving IMHO. You guys have a lot of ideas to add more humors and jokes to the show, but please make it more natural and spontaneous. Nevertheless, keep it up!
review cerato k3 facelift pls
0:56 But I refer to it as the Corolla segment
i want to see compare between volkswagen jetta GLI , kia forte and proton preve. :)
Kia and hyundai improving so much.
As expected...cerato win this battle...its a fair comparison...thanks driven...
These Guys Are Silly.
Vtec doesnt kick in if you have the eco mode on.
it even says in the manual, if you have the eco mode on, you will feel the acceleration will decrease dramatically because it becomes a fuel efficient car
Wheres the proton inspira 2.0?
pleeease.. make review on the new kia rio..
This segment is way too jam packed.. There is also the lancer/inspira, mazda 3, vw jetta, hyundai elantra and the corolla. Hard to say which car is the best because of different update cycles, it's more on which car is the best when you can/need to afford it
u drive the Honda civic with ECON mode, that's why the VTEC can't kicked-in brooooooo.............
I have test-driven all three; the Honda Civic is the most fun to drive and most practical all in all with the best fuel consumption. +shalala moon Dude, don't be so gelabah lah. Read the statement carefully.. try to understand it first before criticizing sumone's opinion =p
the KIA cerato fuel economy in this video is 15.9km/l but in your other video comparing with altis and Mazda 3, the KIA gets 13km/l. That's a lot of difference!
Amazing job, keep it up
best episode yet! but you guys need to show more natural chemistry. the speech sounds very scripted and un-natural
Switching lane without using the indicator ?! .. Hmmm
Should have put in Hyundai Elentra and Nissan Sylphy ?
i want to see the battle of the GTI's~!!!
"I don't know lah..."
Yep, that's Malaysia :-)
Nice review
Chuck Norris?
You got a very good script writer.
next:
Mazda3 vs new Altis vs Golf !!
I'm really starting to like this series.

Cerato... am tempted :D
