I've had the Corolla hatchback (US 2.0L version) for 2 years now and it's been lovely owning this car. It does have very good storage but the rear passenger room is almost non-existent especially if the passenger is tall. I happen to work at a Honda dealership as well and I'd say the civic is a little more luxuries especially if you choose the higher trims. It has probably the best interior design in the segment and it drives... Maturely. I don't know how to exactly describe it. If you need a cool fun little hatchback for yourself the Corolla is the way to go but if you need something more family oriented then the civic is the clear winner.

I went to a dealer with my friend looking for a 2nd hand car last year, we looked at some 17 18 civics, with about 20k mileage. Once we switch on the car, we felt some weird vibrations coming from the engine, and making some squeaky noice from the interior console area, not just 1 but both. I bought the Toyota Corolla!😁 3 months later and no complaints. It's good for 4 people not 5. I mostly drive alone, so no issues on my end. Edit: For those asking what complaints I should have after 3 months. I was referring to the build quality and living with the car. I was skeptical about the small boot/trunk space, but I love the fact that the rear seats fold completely flat. No squeaks or random rattles like my previous VW Polo.
Why do people always say “no complaints” or “no problems so far” after such little time or miles. If complaints were common after an average of only 3 months for a car manufacturer, they’d be out of business fast. Give it 5-10 years of no complaints and I’ll be mildly impressed.
The first owner of my beater of acar drove it for 18 years and 200 000 kms with only regular oil changes and two changes of brake pads and 1 of brake disks. Average consumption 5.5 l/100km. Want to change it only because of rust. A rusty car is a deth trap, and not nice to look at.

I don't get it. You have in your head this Hybrid Civic ..... is exactly the same as the upcoming Type R Civic with an ATMO engine????? Can't be compared mate. The 2 hatches are directed at 2 opposite ends of the Hatchback segment fgs.
Rumoured to have 326bhp and around £40k. No electric motor just a bigger turbo on the old engine. Slightly disappointing if that is the confirmed figure. 350bhp 5 seconds or less to 60 is what was needed this time, otherwise the golf R and M135i will steal sales. Simply cannot justify 40k as that would get you a used 1 year old new M240i Pleasr suprise us Honda with the new Type R....
Genuinely so happy that this compact segment is not a bunch of copy cats, each brand has their own design language each interesting and different approaches in their own right.
Went shopping for a family car with bigger boot earlier this year, so I was comparing the estate versions. and when comparing the Corolla TS GR Sport to the Ceed SW GT-line (highest trims, and biggest engines cause I'm a sucker for that) the Ceed won hands down for boot space , comfort and every option except wireless apple car play vs price (at least in Belgium market trims). Also did the math quite extensively and the premium for the Corolla being a hybrid just really wasn't worth it in any reasonable term (especially when taking taxes for a 2.0l into account). But that may depend on your country of course. Unfortunately the Honda Civic e:HEV wasn't available, because that looks SHARP. But it would have probably been eliminated because of the fact there's no estate version. And 400l of boot space, while a lot for a C class hatch, just isn't all that much when you're hauling around a buggy for 2 kids in addition to... well anything else (that's barely 50l more than my Dacia Sandero which was being replaced). So I got my full option Ceed SW GT-line, with a decent discount for being a demo car, two weeks ago and so far, no regrets.
I really like the Corolla (especially with the 2 litre engine) but given the choice I'd have the Civic. Love the fastback/coupe style looks and that lovely, slightly Mazda esque interior. I get why some people would go for the Kia. It's good value, and looks pretty good.
I faced this decision in January 2022 and I´ve chosen Ceed. It has all the equipment as the other cars but price was much better plus that nice warranty. My top spec Ceed is cheaper than lowest spec Honda or Toyota. Hard to argue with that.
Surely you didn't choose the Civic in January, he wasn't available. But i get your point. Civic is to pricey, but Honda nailed it with this Hybrid Version.
@@SuncanoMore I agree...have this new Civic been available I would definitelly check it out. It looks amazing. Sadly even the previous gen was more expensive than Ceed.
@@projectill The current gen Civic is even more (much more) expensive than the previous one - still worth it, IMHO. The best compact car on the market.
I like the way the Honda Civic uses the engine power to produce electric energy that powers the wheels to move the car. It's very unconventional, yes, to what we all are accustomed to but in a way I kinda like that difference and different is sometimes good. It keeps things interesting for those who appreciate change sometimes.
I bought a 2018 Honda Accord Hybrid in 2018, brand spanking new! Driven it for some time and got used to it, then one day I drove a regular automatic car. Felt really clunky and sluggish! Because the Honda drives on electric motor, it is so damn smooth(it is essentially an electric car with on-board generator). Then I drove a dual-clutch automatic car. I was wondering if the transmission was broken lol. I was genuinely concerned about how the car was shifting gears! If you try the new Honda hybrid system, I guarantee you'll love it! And it's very fuel efficient. Even in sports mode when you drive it like a maniac it still gets 25+ MPG US. Normal driving would go even up to 45MPG easy! Check out some of my Accord video's on my channel!
crazy that a normal honda civic does 0-60 in 6.79 seconds and is a hybrid too. Honda really have outdone themselves in this generation. Looks good, practical, uses the benefits of electric but with the useability from petrol. amazing.
Absolutely love my new civic sport e hev. Drove back from the peak district today 60 mph winding roads. Corners like it's on rails, smooth powerful acceleration and average mpg was 70.2 mpg. The hold feature is great at traffic lights, you just launch off with a big grin on your face. The boot eats my golf clubs and trolley no problem there. Even the door handles, wow! How the doors open and close. Build quality is superb. The washers built into the wipers brilliant, lovely seats, the air circulation from the vents great I could go on and on. Well done Honda fantastic car i love it.
@@greymark420 I was a bit worried as I traded my A class 200d amg which I loved. But I wouldn't have it back now after driving this civic. Don't worry you've made a great choice.
With the Honda and Toyota you actually get quite a bit for your money. They both have very nice interior materials and quality especially the Honda being brand new model. The Kia on the other hand might be the most affordable out of the 3 but when you sit inside you will get reminded why that is.
I spent quite some time comparing the top trims of the Corolla and Ceed (estate versions) and you get can get about the same stuff on the Kia except for a battery (which, with the 2.0l in the Corolla, really doesn't save you all that much on petrol) and wireless Apple car play ... for 5-7 grand less. Which is quite substantial when looking at cars in the 30 - 40 range.
@@unka2007, my Ceed SW (160hp 1.5 TGDi in ~mid trim; manual, halogen headlights, heated seats+steering, keyless, wireless carplay, 17inch alloys) cost 20k eur, inlaws' Civic (base trim; +22hp, automatic, LED headlights on top of Ceed, missing heated steering wheel sadly) cost 30k eur. Bought few months apart. Getting Ceed in comparable equipment (with automatic and LED package) would've cost me 2700 more (but they were out of stock, otherwise I would have taken it). So Civic is over 30% more expensive, which is considerable. And after I drove it, I would say it might be worth it.
Honda. We own it now for 6 months. 10.000km. Same as in the video but in white colour. Car is just awesome. I have two little daughters but it’s enough for us. Great review. Covers all you need to know. We have a Kia Xceed phev. It's a superb car. However the normal ceed just looks a bit plain. Honda looks the best inside. Toyota looks the best outside. For me anyway.
Honda often tend to be conservative on power, my icdti Accord easily trounced the VAG diesel saloons of the time, the Honda was supposed to be 139bhp but came up on dynos as 156bhp and was a shade more compact so explained it.
Actually you can use android auto wirelessly in the civic. You have to activate it from the cars infortainment system. I dont know why the factory doesnt activate it before selling
Mazda 3 should be included. I think it's by far the best looking one, perhaps also the best driving one. Maybe not the most practical one, but not bad.
If only they offered 2.5 L with turbo in Europe... But they don't and the naturally aspirated 2.0 is no match for the new Civic. It's painfully sluggish - my test drive on a highway was a traumatic experience. Civic rides better as well. But Mazda is a much prettier car, that's for sure.
Skoda get alot off recognition in Europe on general. But they are non exsistant in North America and various other areas of the world much like Seat and Dacia.. They are basicly a VW and its VW that get the attention and sales were Skoda are not.. Japanese brands like Toyota, Nissan, Mazda and Honda are sold world wide in comparison to Skoda.
@@265justy Skoda is pretty big in India. Skoda gives tough competition to it's parent company here. They make fun cars and is rising in popularity. Their future lineup means one thing "They are only going to rise in India".

If you have rough roads don’t get the civic. The seats in the civic are hard as a rock. Worse seats I’ve ever had in all my cars. But I’m getting 38-44 mpg on the highway. Corolla has a better longer lasting engine.
Take the screen protector off your phone. It won't do anything bad to the Fold 3. The Fold 1, yes, but not the 3. It's so much smoother without it and the screen doesn't scratch THAT easily. Plus, those bubbles down the center can actually cause damage to the display if the protector ends up cracking.

I’m fed up with paying so much for my 2020 BMW M340i what with monthly PCP, £40K+ road tax, insurance, £50 per month servicing and then insurance and petrol (basically, £1,000+ per month) so test drive the Civic Advance. I have to say, the Honda felt just as well engineered as the BMW with as good handling and a better ride! Yes my 374bhp BMW is a bit faster but, in all sincerity, after my extended 4 hour test drive of the Civic, the M340i didn’t feel that much faster around town and away from the lights plus it felt like it was trying so much harder; the Civic felt more effortless. Also, the BMW seats felt like cardboard after the lovely soft leather chairs in the Civic! I loved the interior of the Civic and it’s clever design touches although why Honda angled the infotainment screen away from the driver is beyond me! I am seriously thinking about trading in my M340i for an Advance in blue premium paint!

Just got the Corolla Hatchback last month (US, 2L naturally aspirated gas engine). I researched for months and tried to get a good deal on a Civic as it really does feel like a better car. I ultimately went with with the Corolla because of price. Got it for $28k. No Honda dealers even considered negotiating the price and after their markups and addons, the best price for a Civic I found was $37k. That being the case, the Rolla is just the better option. Loved it so far!
Waiting for my new (6th) civic to be delivered - ordered 4 weeks ago. Should have been here tomorrow but not heard anything from dealer for 2 weeks. Hopefully it will be here soon. Been told there’s long waits for certain colours. I’ve gone back to black. Had the sonic grey last two iterations (10th Gen).
The eCVT (electronic Continuously Variable Torque) system is designed to mimic gear changes to make the drive more “acceptable” to most drivers. However, if the driver attempts a really rapid “brake hold” standing start (in the old days, this would have been the equivalent of holding the brakes against the stall speed of a traditional automatic transmission), the eCVT system will assume the driver really wants maximum acceleration and is less concerned about the sound; the system will therefore NOT interrupt the flow of torque (however momentary to mimic gear changes) and thus hold the engine / motor at maximum power whilst the accelerator is held fully down. I hope that explains the reason why the powertrain doesn’t mimic gear changes during REALLY hard acceleration.
We alove attainable cars for most of us poor people… I love the reviews Matt and Carwow. Please reviews more like this not just supercars. Can we have group tests hatchbacks, CUV’s and estates and SUV’s review these in groups with Germany brands. It's insane how underrated Honda is in europe, most underrated brand by far bc of EU braand owned mainstream media. The new Jazz, HRV and Civic are all brilliant and perfect for the european market.
As a Honda fan, it always baffles me to check the comments below Honda auto reviews from the UK only to find myself hit by a wave of indifference and contempt. I think it may partially be caused by Honda's traditional ruthless pursuit of efficiency, which in the past has often left their cars feeling a little cheap or unfinished.
In my experience, the problem is that they have quite few dealers, people don't like having to drive far to find an official dealer, it also makes the barrier bigger to try one. They are also priced higher then many European brands (for obvious reasons), so people are scared to spend more money, on a brand they know little about. And the marketing just sucks, VW, Renault, Peugeot, Toyota, Volvo, are everywhere, Honda almost never spends anything on marketing over here. People genuinely don't know what they sell. When you mention Civic, most still think of that simple small hatchback from the 90's, they have no idea what a great mid-sized family vehicle it is now.
In the UK Toyota's must get different trim levels. I've got the base model Corolla for a while and it's brand new. No digital display and the stereo is a punish to use. It does get a reversing camera though. The engine drones alot and is quite breathless also the trim seems to have a fair bit of movement. I might try the civic next that seems like an innovative little car.
I've lived with a Corolla (though the Touring Sports version) for the past 2 years, the 2.0 hybrid engine. I don't recommend it. Yeah, it does its job, the outside design is nice, but it feels really boring to drive, it's no fun at all. On the inside, the red stitching looks nice, and at least it has the black headlining as well, but some plastics are really hard (especially one that I keep bumping my knee on everytime I enter), head space is awful (I'm almost 2m tall), and if you have the front seats all the way back (which you must have in order to fit your knees), in the back nobody will fit. I don't like the car

Average consumption 5.5 l/100km. Want to change it only because of rust. A rusty car is a deth trap, and not nice to look at.

I have a Corolla hybrid "made in Japan" and it's great generally speaking, but the assembly quality sucks a*s. I am so disapointed of it.
Definitely the Civic... though, if Ceed/i30 would come out with a HEV version, the i30 fastback would be a serious competitor to the Civic.

I understand completely. Actually tested one and was lucky enough to have the money available. Bought mine the next day. It's not disappointing in almost any aspect, the only thing is that I have a bad back at the moment and after a couple of hours driving I find the seat somewhat hard and uncomfortable.

Excellent choice, and a 7 year warranty to boot!

Honda did a fantastic job on this civic and on the civic Type R too !
Looks good, practical, uses the benefits of electric but with the useability from petrol. amazing.

With the Honda and Toyota you actually get quite a bit for your money. They both have very nice interior materials and quality especially the Honda being brand new model. The Kia on the other hand might be the most affordable out of the 3 but when you sit inside you will get reminded why that is.
Honda and Toyota are charging a lot more and giving a lot less warranty so they better have nicer interior materials. 🙄

I went the Mazda 3 manual 2.5ltr in Oz 🇦🇺
If only they offered 2.5 L with turbo in Europe... But they don't and the naturally aspirated 2.0 is no match for the new Civic. It's painfully sluggish - my test drive on a highway was a traumatic experience. Civic rides better as well. But Mazda is a much prettier car, that's for sure.

Well, my dream is to own a Lexus and a Honda Civic Type R. However, I feel Skoda is quite underlooked.

I have both.
23 civic and 23 Corolla. The cvt and engine is smoother and quieter in the honda. The ride and seats are better in the Corolla. The civic rides like a wagon. If you have rough roads don’t get the civic. The seats in the civic are hard as a rock. Worse seats I’ve ever had in all my cars. But I’m getting 38-44 mpg on the highway.

Take the screen protector off your phone. It won't do anything bad to the Fold 3. The Fold 1, yes, but not the 3. It's so much smoother without it and the screen doesn't scratch THAT easily.

God I love the new look and hybrid system of the civic.
