You really feel the simplistic 90s-ness of this car. The interior and the exterior are minimalist while still being completely functional and pleasent to look at. It's fantastic.
It’s why I’m so confused why there’s so much backlash online about the way this thing looks, from a lot of Honda people. They’re always lamenting not having the simple back- to-basics approach from the cars in the 90s, and this thing, even visually, harkens back to those days. And they all hate it. It’s so dumb.

Seriously! I would love this interior at ANY price-point. Please, no more overcomplicated electronics/haptic feedback buttons/etc... Nobody, at any price point, or at any age range, enjoys those features.
This might sound odd to some, but one of my favourite parts of that Civic is the fact that it has REAL exhaust tips!!! I'm getting so tired of those fake ones that seem to be becoming more and more common. Thank you Honda :)
Man I love the way you guys make videos. Clear car enthusiasts, who are realistic about the average car buyer, with a lot of nitty-gritty, tech-y stuff, that somehow is never the boring, useless, neurosis-addled nit-picks from some reviewers. With really clean shooting/editing, too? And nice audio? Best car channel, hands-down.
I really liked the interior review. You make a convincing case for WHY piano black is bad for commonly touched surfaces, why good black levels are important on all digital clusters, and why good matte physical controls matter. You also explain how the layout can be clean while still retaining the important ergonomics from physical controls. I'm really glad Honda has continued in this direction in a time when a lot of new cars seem designed for flashiness without consideration for practicality. I just wish they offered more than an all-black interior. This car's interior design begs for it.
Yet you can literally see him touch the gloss black on the steering wheel when he's pressing the steering wheel buttons. Of all the places to put gloss black, why on the damn steering wheel? And when you go to adjust the vents, you're going to rest your hands/get your fingerprints on all that gloss black around the vents and central dash area. You won't touch the gloss black on the door, but all the gloss black in the interior will collect dust.
Um, am I the only one who sees that sea of gloss black all around the vent area, push button start, and on the freaking steering wheel? You're guaranteed to touch it and it will absolutely get covered in dust. You can even see him touching the gloss black on the steering wheel when he presses the buttons and praises the buttons for being matte black. Idk why Honda didn't just use that carbon fiber looking trim instead of all that gloss black.
Same here, very pleased with the design direction and I hope other manufacturers follow suit! I’m an unapologetic vw fanboy and I would love to see them adopt what Honda has been doing, they’re atrocious when it comes to glossy plastics.
I just don't get it. It looks so simple and clean. Like we don't want much. We are actually asking them to do LESS and then they keep throwing more crap on there that just gets in the way. Well done Honda.
What... fuck that. Aside from maybe the speed of the screen, the Nissan Sentra SR Premium has a better interior than Civic Touring... However, Nissan fails to deliver any sportback/hatchback vehicle design. Flop decision on their part imo
They made this car so unbelievably good that even an LX or sports trims (which are both at or under $25,000) are amazing cars with almost every feature you'd need
I watched so many reviews. On a few top picks. Mazda, Toyota and Honda. An entire weekend of binge-watching. It was not until I saw this one I decided to get this car. Exactly as shown. I have only had it for 10 weeks and I would say this review was spot on. I have zero buyers remorse. Thank guys.
What made you pick this over the Mazda just curious? I ended up getting the cx5 and one of the main reasons I did so was because of the noise level inside the car. I couldn't take how loud some of the newer Toyotas are.
It blows my mind how much space this has in the hatch. I’ve seen some people bellyaching about the price of this thing compared to like an accord, but this is way more practical than a accord? As long as you’re OK with a slightly smaller interior space. This has more cargo capacity than something like a Subaru crosstrek , and drives infinitely better. There’s so much space in the back of this thing that you could make a case for getting this over something like a CX-5 which doesn’t really have that much more appreciable cargo room or interior space. Unless you just really wanna be up high, there’s no reason to choose a cuv. Honda nailed it.
Wow, been a while since we've had such a high praise review across the board for a vehicle. Now I'm hyped for what Si and Type R are going to be like when it's has such a great starting platform to begin with.
I hate the mcdonalds fish sandwich, it's so bland compared to the ones I ate in Singapore. Like damn man, those small bakeries really made some DELICIOUS food
I’ve owned 2 new civics and accords, and a few new BMW 5 series; however, I always come back to Honda’s quality, innovation, and value advantage time and time again.
I've been grinding these car review videos for a prospective purchase, and I have to say.... you guys by far do the best job. No one else looks under car/discusses every aspect, and seem extremely not invested or biased in review. Good job, reminds me of those amazing 2000s TV shows on horsepower channel lol.
You guys do such a great job with your reviews and I appreciate that you don’t just regurgitate the press briefing talking points, but actually consider whether real drivers would find something exciting, useful, or annoying. I also like that you don’t just review exotics but drive cars that real people can afford. Not all of us can toss on a pair of stringback driving gloves for an early morning jaunt through the Alps in the latest Maserati. Some of us have to find enjoyment on our drive to the grocery store.
The interior harkens back to their simple yet refined designs of the 1980's and 90's. Low cowl, dash and belt line with lots of glass and straight lines. Glad to see Honda moved away from the Sci-Fi bathtub interiors of the mid 2000's onward.
Agree. 2022 dash is big improvement and reminds me of my 91 Honda Civic hatchback's view forward. The hood literally disappeared once my seat positioned for long drives. Sharp car.
I haven’t been the kindest to the civic in recent years, I will say this new body style is very well done. I would never consider the last civic spaceship a looker. This looks good. Simple, with character.
@@Mr.Marbles SERIOUSLY! I felt like I was "too old" to be caught driving that gen. This one nails it. Plenty aggressive while being simultaneously mature looking. Honda just broadened its buying demographic by a LOT.
@@2WhiteAndNerdy the normal previous one looked already like the type r. It was way too wild. I guess its because the normal cars look way too sporty now so the actual sport models have to try so hard
Looks like a great product overall. The interior looks awesome. I love dashboards that are low and not a mile long. I also like dashboards that you won't hit your knee on every time you get in and out like the Corolla. The digital cluster not being garbage is fantastic. Metal honeycomb instead of crap plastic is also nice. Good visibility is also huge, part of why I love Subaru. Finally, offering a manual is just a cherry on top. Honda going back to tuning their cars for great driving and good usability is really the best move. I've been surprised at how expensive the Civic has gotten, but at least they're making it seem worth it.
I absolutely love these reviews. They are always put together incredibly well and professionally. I also appreciate the absence of bias as there are comparisons to other vehicles but this generation of civic hatchback does seem the be the best one yet.
Huge win in that interior for Honda. VW blew the interior on the MK8 GTI, so badly that they've lost me as a customer. I had a MK6 (4 years) and have been driving my MK7 since 2015. But when I get rid of it, I'm not going with a MK8.
VW went full retard in that regard. I have had my Mk5 GTI since new (2006) and I’ll probably be parting with it next year to buy a 2.0L Sport 6MT (Miata is my other car).
@Incomudro fully agreed. If you loved VW's exceptional and high quality designed interiors of the Mk7 Golf variants, Honda picked it up here with this new Civic (VW, you blew it with the Mk8). I'm highly impressed.
Sorry, but there's no way I'd go from a GTI to this. . This Civic is nice enough as an entry level DD, but there's no real excitement in the performance, and the look is ...meh. Maybe the SI will put it over the top, but honestly, I'm not interested in a 6MT at this point in my life, and there's no CVT in my future. If they offered an actual auto box like the Accord, or some kind of DSG, I might change my mind. I'll give VW the chance to take care of the worst issues on the interior in the mid cycle refresh....which I'm sure they'll do. In spite of the funky dash, the Mk 8 drives brilliantly as seen is SG's previous video. Meanwhile, my '16 Mk 7 is serving me just fine.
@@johnstone7697 if you look at the big 3 in Europe, VAG, BMW, and Benz, they’re all going Haptic Touch with interiors. I’m sure they can make some improvements, but the core layout of the Mk8 and future VAG products are getting away from physical buttons. And from a numbers standpoint, yeah, even the 6MT Sport Touring HB has nothing on the GTI/R. That’s more in the Si/CTR variants. Sadly, Honda thinks that making an Si HB would interfere with CTR sales, so sedan only.
I don’t remember another car you guys have gushed over this much. Excited to get the chance to see one in person and test drive. Can’t wait to see the Si and Type R! I love this design inside and out. My first car was a 1978 Civic hatchback - yellow with the houndstooth interior, 5 speed, and wood steering wheel and shift knob. Wish I still had it. 😀
You DINOSAURS!🦖🦕 Just kidding. I'm envious although the first Civic was tiny! I had a 82 Accord with automatic for a while and it was keen! I was 16 and installed big subwoofer on the rear deck and got plastic hubcaps! I loved my sound systems. Who needs (engine) power when you have BASS???
This video should be one of the best and biggest compliments that the Honda Civic team could receive, must be rewarding for them. I've never seen any other videos that you guys gave the level of compliments to any other cars. Apparently, it's pretty sure that this car is going to sell well in the US market very well, I assume this sells well all over the world. Now I'm seriously considering this car as our new family car. I'm so happy to consider this car as a Japanese who loved the old Civic Si so much a long time ago.
Just got a 22 Sport Touring Hatch this past weekend. It really is an outstanding, fun to drive vehicle with great features. The Bose sound system kicks!
I Actually don’t doubt it. Honda is pretty good at listening to criticism. Even with the smallest things like a volume knob. This is why Honda is my favorite automaker. I’m a mechanical engineer and worked in the auto industry and Honda is one of the brands that excels in every industry they go into. Electric generators, cars, motorcycles, power tools, marine, even airplanes.
no company is perfect and sometimes honda is frustrating (mostly because of acura), but they consistently have a great balance of affordability, quality, functionality, and fun. can't wait to own a ctr.
"Even the smallest things like a volume knob." It took Honda years of derision to finally bring the traditional volume knob back (and they probably hated to do so), while a simple tuning knob is still missing on most trim levels.
@@kenhoward3512 while it took them two years to make the change, they still did it. hell, they redesigned an entire civic after just one year based on complaints.
@@edgaryzen4925 I’m a big fan of Toyota too. However, Toyota doesn’t quite take as many risks (innovate) as Honda. And they are not in so many industries. The biggest risk Toyota has ever taken was the Prius. Other than that… nothing much really. I mean, the engine and transmission in the 4Runner (one of my favorite vehicles btw) has been around for about 2 decades now. I still love them what they are: reliable and fairly simple systems, but as an engineer I would like to see more innovation out of Toyota. Let’s hope they do.
Woohoo! Putting in an order for a 6MT version stat. Seriously. THIS is the one I've been waiting for. I checked out a base model sedan (AT) at a local dealer and was highly impressed. Just needed a stick. Now we can have one!
I had been looking at CUVs like the Kona and Seltos, but there were too many drawbacks. My research led me to the Civic Hatchback, and I bought one a few days ago. I was able to get exactly what I wanted: sport touring with the CVT in Boost Blue Pearl. Loving it!
You lucky dog. All I could find was a 2 month waiting list in a red sport hatch. I put the 500 down but then I saw the 22 Corolla nightshade SE and got that. Actually gotta make sure the Honda salesperson refunded my $500 back.
@@3rdWorldNola The market was tight 7 months ago, but not nearly as bad as it is now. I would not be able to replicate this success in June 2022. I was concerned things might get worse before they get better. I got lucky with the timing.
I bought one like yours in the Pearl white metallic with the grey/black interior. Just waiting on my window tint and it will be perfect. Drives great. Stereo is amazing. Lots of room and my passengers are comfortable in the front and back
I bought a 10th gen Si last December and I just love all the points and aggressive design. I personally am glad I didn't wait but this design will be more acceptable for waaaay more people.
I wish I was in the market for a car because I would definitely take a look at this. Reminds me so much of my old 2003 Hyundai Elantra GT that also had the unconventional fastback/sportback hatch design which I think has better aesthetics than the typical hatchback. Plus I like how it has more glass for visibility; I'm finding modern cars are sacrificing visibility for 'cooler' styling. And yes, being in my 40s, I hated the over-styling of the previous gen and wouldn't even consider it as an option, but this, while it doesn't really have a 'wow' factor, it's more digestible than some Anime-type design. I see good things here. Nice work as always, gents!
I always adore the sections in reviews where car enthusiasts young and old praise the CVT so you can see them A) being impressed they actually said that with a straight face and B) trying to hold back their laughter/despair.
One of the things that I loved so much about my old '87 Integra was the low cowl height and low beltline -- that improved visibility and gave the car a light, airy feel. It's nice to see that Honda still recognized the benefits that brings.
I recently saw a mid 90s Civic hatch next to a fairly new Civic sedan and I was shocked how tiny the older Civic was, or how big the Civic has gotten over the years.
Negatives: 1 - Position of the headunit on the dashboard instead of being integrated into it. 2 - The C.V.T. instead of an 8 speed automatic or six speed manual. 3 - Stamped steel suspension instead of aluminum. 4- Hard headrests. I would go with the 2.0L and manual provided the oil and gas don't mix.
This video was exactly what I thought in my first Honda, a ‘99 Accord EX. It’s still running and used as a daily driver. Makes me happy that Honda’s still making some things right.
I have a 2021 Mazda3 Turbo Hatch and it definitely has enough room to haul almost anything. The turbo model also outperforms almost every other car in its price range as far as performance goes. My only complaint is I wish the suspension was tuned differently. It handles well, but something is just slightly off about how it takes corners
Honestly? With the exception of the straightahead speed that the 3 offers, in that one specific trim level, I’m not seeing anything that the 3 is dynamically capable of that outweighs how much better the civic is at utility. like yes I do dig the styling. But the styling isn’t so nice that it completely counteracts how good the interior of the civic is space wise. Or how the hatchback in the civic is actually useful. Or the fact that the civic has supreme ride handling balance. If you need I will drive and you need it in a car that sacrifices utility for the sake of, I can see somebody opting for the 3.
@@Eldaino999 As a guy with no kids I never needed the space and the utility a Civic can offer and I do enjoy the exterior design of a 3 more. I really like the interior of both cars tho. I don't think the Civic has supreme ride handling balance, compared to a 3, but I guess that's also down to personal prefference
I'm very very happy about the interior and exterior design and the retention of physical controls. Also extremely keen to see what the Si and R will be like. A low-key unobtrusive quick version of this car would be a perfect everyday do-everything machine for me
Ive been telling everyone that honda has been making more simple smoother angle cars that really look like the 90s again and I love it, thank you for recognizing that
I am so happy you guys are driving the automatic. I really am happy that the manual option is available for people but so far, all the reviewers have been clinging to the manual when most of the shoppers (including myself) are going to be buying the automatic.
Speaking of color selection, I've been trying to find an EX sedan in Aegean Blue. When I searched nationwide the other day, I found all of 16 for sale. The end of the chip shortage can't come soon enough.
@jeremyroper7273 I had a 10th gen and the 11th has a much better interior and highway manner the hatch has plenty of room for me and my kids to shop or travel, locating a 6 speed can be difficult my 23 was the only stick inside 150 miles
Wry excited for this car. Love how the styling has been ‘matured’ and the fact you can get it as a 6 speed manual. Very interested in how the Si will drive and look. I come from a Honda family, and while most of us have moved into the Pilot and Odyssey’s phase of life, I’m still a die hard car guy.
Just bought one and now watching this. It was the first Honda I got drawn too and after a test drive I knew it was a budding relationship. Looks great, drives great. Love it.
The INTERIOR in this thing is amazing. Watching the video and being able to really get a good view of all the windows especially the rear hatch glass is VERY impressive. Still the Mazda 3 is on a slightly higher level. Turbo with AWD? If the 3 had this Hondas amazing interior it would be a home run.
Looking forward to finding a Honda Civic hatchback manual. I love hatchbacks but being a "senior citizen" I just couldn't get myself to buy the prior generation since it was too (how do I say tastefully) "young" looking. :-) (Since 1982 I've had at least one or more Hondas in the driveway. Once they stopped the hatchback I had to go to SUV though.)
I was on the fence between the Honda Civic hatchback and the Mazda three hatchback This video clearly made up my mind the Honda Civic is the way to go Thank you for another great video
The interior of this car is so far ahead of the competition. The gloss textured material looks high end, but doesn't suffer from fingerprints and scratches like the gloss black everyone else is obsessing with. This interior is going to age so much better than a lot of so-called luxury interiors with their gloss black everywhere and clunky touchscreens for climate control.
i was already excited for this car, but seeing your guys review just made it even better. im definitely getting this no doubt! going for the sport trim!
Subscribing to this channel years ago was the best thing I ever did. Your reviews are on a level that most other creators can only dream of. As always.
@@alexnutcasio936 Actually, no. I could care less about it if you gave me the chance. You attempting to correct my grammar is something I couldn't care less about.
So I actually build the new civic (non hatch) for North America. Usually you would expect some pretty big struggles when going into a model change but in my zone specifically (we do some interior bits with center console, seats etc) it was the best model change by far! We had less outflow (parts not set correctly, chips scratches etc) than we did with the mature outgoing model. That’s unheard of! And if you think it’s a bit ugly like I do, the Si fixes many of my complaints. I hope they go full agro like jack at a wine tasting with the type R.
I have been an Accord driver for nearly 8 years on and off. Today I purchased a new Sport Touring hatchback and holy crap it's pretty incredible. This car drives and rides just as good as an Accord yet it handles better since it's smaller. The interior is class leading and the design is handsome and clean. I've been really impressed by this car so far.
I bought this exact car in a 2023 model. So far, my only complaint is a lack of storage in the cabin area. It looks great. Love the Continental tires! Amazing 12 speaker BOSE! It’s a great car! For reference, I’m 6 foot 215 and 48 years old
I bought the hybrid, no other option in Europe, and I’m 6,4 foot and 105 kg, 47 years old. It’s no cheap and here is not considered a small car. Accord is not sold in Europe since long time ago.
Old people buy hatchbacks too! :) They are God's gift to those who don't wanna have to buy a damn CUV/SUV (and all the compromises thereof) to carry around stuff, and have sedan-fun driving at the same time. Kinda wish you guys woulda driven the 1.5 turbo with manual trans for the driving enthusiasts (who also need a "common sense" car), and commented more on it's relative fun-to-drive-ness.
In all honesty I would choose that intro music. I listened to it over and over 10 times. It’s fabulous. Good music is becoming the new signature of those geese. ;))
Ever since 2014 Mazda has set the "upscale" standard for interiors, many have wondered when the competition would catch up. I still prefer Mazda's exterior. Throw in its massive torque in turbo trim and it is still tough to beat, today. Side note: Consumer Reports did not like the road noise aspect of the new entry level Civic. It is among the highest of those in its class.
This thing combined with the Mazda 3's styling (while keeping the visibility) would be amazing. I also wish the back wasn't so raked back as it'd have even more utility.
I'd imagine "more utility" (this hatch *already* has plenty) is what Honda would intend their HR-V and CR-V for. They obviously were leaning more toward styling with this design - a smart move, I'd say, considering who they're aiming this anti-CUV at.
The Mazda is better looking, has a proper automatic and AWD. I'd be buying the Mazda. I have a Honda and a Mazda in the garage right now, so I'm not particularly brand loyal.
You guys in North America are lucky to have 2.0 litre naturally aspirated engines with a manual still on offer. In Europe, most of the new cars are 1.0-1.5 3cyl turbos with 100-150 hp...
Lets put this in perspective back in '00 / '01 I was in HS and bought a Civic SI (that beautiful blue) and was able to easily afford it + gas + insurance working a PT job. Now we are at the point where the base level civic is barely affordable for a normal working class family. It that doesn't tell you something about our economy, inflation, and standard of living I don't know what does.
I would consider this if it had an AWD option. This is a very nice put together car and looks practical too as family car. I actually like the styling better than the Mazda 3's.
Im actually really excited for alot of these new cars coming out. The Si, TypeR, Integra, 86/BRZ, 400z, WRX(although ugly), feels like one last push for out beloved combustion engines before the innevitable switch over to EVs
I have stated the same thing, this is the swan song era of traditional cars probably ending by 2030. Then there will be 0.5 / 1.0L cars that last 3 years tops because of all the EPA demands, quickness of getting electric models to market with more and more inefficient batteries that konk out.
Needed a car for work that I’d be driving A LOT, and it needed to be safe, roomy, small outside, sporty and most of all fuel efficient. I opted for the sport touring CVT and let me tell you, just adding a Ktuner with a flash tune, it’s literally the perfect every day car now.
If y'all are not liking every video that the goose puts out, you need to get your brain checked because we all need to support this masterpiece of a channel.
Nice review ! Thumbs up 👍 I’m happy to see the hatchback making its way back again, definitely gives a lot more versatility and practicality for all around usefulness. Love the manual option ( that’s the way I’d personally go ) I’m curious about the engine options though , the 2.0 @ 158 hp vs the 1.5 turbo charged @ 180 hp I think there’s better longevity and fuel economy with the 2.0 ? Perhaps less overall maintenance and ownership costs ( including initial purchase price ) I don’t know 🤷♂️ but I’d like to see your driving review final thoughts on the 2.0 manual hatchback .
I laughed out loud because you were reading my mind when you said "if your over 30 you wont be embarrassed to be seen driving it" I had a 1998 little civic hatchback that was great bot now im 51yo with wife and 2 kids. I really like the looks of this civic.
Recently purchased a used 2022 model. Nice overall. My only request would have been a button you can push to automatically close the back hatch. Looking forward to see if the 2024+ models will be hybrid models.

Unfortunately I think that will be harder to accomplish now then when the 10th gen type R hit the market in 17'. Things have just gotten completely out of control. Everyone that bought one for markup fed into that.
I bought a 2019 MAZDA 3 AWD a few yrs ago. I absolutely love the car, I have no complaints. But if this car was available in 2019 I probably would have bought this CIVIC. The name HONDA speaks for itself. Good review! as always..
I still wish they would have combined the hatch with the sedan and made a 'sportback' design similar to the Audi A5 so they could have offered a wagon variation for even more utility. Also, please drop the CVT for a good 7-speed auto or at least make that an option. Otherwise, it is a nice car! I took a good long look at one at a dealership and it is an impressive car inside and out. Finally, I hear the new HR-V is around the corner and, if it is as good as I suspect, I'll bet more people buy that over the Civic. Sadly, I think a lot of people would rather drive a mediocre CUV over a great sedan. Look at the Mazda 3 sedan sales compared to the current HR-V.
Love this new Civic and your stellar review (not just because you’re gushing over it). Honda just hits that sweet spot between Toyota and Mazda. This new Civic delivers on every front and you’d really just have to love something else not to consider choosing this first.

Seriously! I would love this interior at ANY price-point. Please, no more overcomplicated electronics/haptic feedback buttons/etc... Nobody, at any price point, or at any age range, enjoys those features.
Agreed. I think Honda nailed a no nonsense, practical, quality interior. The drive quality looks great as a daily commuter!

This might sound odd to some, but one of my favourite parts of that Civic is the fact that it has REAL exhaust tips!!! I'm getting so tired of those fake ones that seem to be becoming more and more common. Thank you Honda :)
The C class mercedes has fake exhaust. meanwhile civic manual's have real.
Agreed on all points. Would be great to see some two-toning for visual variety, but otherwise all great features.
@@Unchainedmaple888 I did notice that gloss black on the steering wheel. It's not the worst but it's misplaced I'll agree.
For the sake of cost and maintaining that price point is the reason why it will only have one color option on the interior

So we are not getting swipe to steer?
Um, am I the only one who sees that sea of gloss black all around the vent area, push button start, and on the freaking steering wheel? You're guaranteed to touch it and it will absolutely get covered in dust. You can even see him touching the gloss black on the steering wheel when he presses the buttons and praises the buttons for being matte black.
Costs more than the accord

The interior harkens back to their simple yet refined designs of the 1980's and 90's. Low cowl, dash and belt line with lots of glass and straight lines. Glad to see Honda moved away from the Sci-Fi bathtub interiors of the mid 2000's onward.
Yep, the dashboard looks so similar to my '87 Accord. Without those 𝘱𝘦𝘴𝘬𝘺 airbags, you could even have the shelf up there!
And i would argue it looks just as mean and sporty without looking like a gundam collectible.
@@Mr.Marbles SERIOUSLY! I felt like I was "too old" to be caught driving that gen. This one nails it. Plenty aggressive while being simultaneously mature looking. Honda just broadened its buying demographic by a LOT.

Mk8 went full retard on the interior lol exactly

I mean, the engine and transmission in the 4Runner (one of my favorite vehicles btw) has been around for about 2 decades now. I bought a 10th gen Si last December and I just love all the points and aggressive design. I personally am glad I didn't wait but this design will be more acceptable for waaaay more people.
I guess the Si is not as ugly as the Type R.

One of the things that I loved so much about my old '87 Integra was the low cowl height and low beltline -- that improved visibility and gave the car a light, airy feel. It's nice to see that Honda still recognized the benefits that brings.
I mean to be fair, the 10th Gen has that too.
Higher belt lines is all about safety regulations. I'm surprised they didn't bring up Subaru with all the glass they use for great visibility
I recently saw a mid 90s Civic hatch next to a fairly new Civic sedan and I was shocked how tiny the older Civic was, or how big the Civic has gotten over the years.
I had this car parked next to a 2005 rav4 and its bigger than that.
Its like an Accord a few years ago. Too Big.
It has evolved to the perfect size.
So I guess:
-get a Mazda 3 if you don't need the space and the utility
-get a Civic if you have a familly with kids but also wanna have some fun
I have a 2021 Mazda3 Turbo Hatch and it definitely has enough room to haul almost anything. The turbo model also outperforms almost every other car in its price range as far as performance goes. But the styling isn’t so nice that it completely counteracts how good the interior of the civic is space wise. Or how the hatchback in the civic is actually useful.

The INTERIOR in this thing is amazing. Watching the video and being able to really get a good view of all the windows especially the rear hatch glass is VERY impressive.

Thanks for the feedback. Did you get the CVT and have you owned a CVT before? If so - how is it and how does it compare to previous versions?
I bought this exact car in a 2023 model. So far, my only complaint is a lack of storage in the cabin area. It looks great. Love the Continental tires! Amazing 12 speaker BOSE! It’s a great car! For reference, I’m 6 foot 215 and 48 years old
Mines in order but only the sports edition. I would of liked the improve sound system but I’m sure the 8 speaker set up will work just fine

I got the sedan, but I burned it in a Mississippi park-and-ride when I couldn't find a spot for my charcuterie boards. 🧀🥓🛹
Ok..
This thing combined with the Mazda 3's styling (while keeping the visibility) would be amazing. I also wish the back wasn't so raked back as it'd have even more utility.
And Mazda’s fantastic AWD system
I'd imagine "more utility" (this hatch *already* has plenty) is what Honda would intend their HR-V and CR-V for. They obviously were leaning more toward styling with this design - a smart move, I'd say, considering who they're aiming this anti-CUV at.
Not possible, two separate companies, also two separate cars and very different chassis.
The Mazda is better looking, has a proper automatic and AWD. I'd be buying the Mazda. I have a Honda and a Mazda in the garage right now, so I'm not particularly brand loyal.

Now I can’t wait for the Integra to come back
Heard it’s going to be available with a 6-speed🔥
#savethemanuals
No one buys manuals anymore. 09:30. Even Jack agrees . Sad, but true. #buytheautos
Integra will have 1.5T 6MT from Si. The Type S 2.0T SHAWD will be auto only.
@@alexnutcasio936 I'll be Buying this in A manual. Part of the problem is it's nearly impossible to find an manual one
Mk5 Supra and fk8 are two amazing cars.
@@alexnutcasio936 but there's still and audience for them
Nice review ! Thumbs up 👍
I’m happy to see the hatchback making its way back again, definitely gives a lot more versatility and practicality for all around usefulness.
Love the manual option ( that’s the way I’d personally go )
I’m curious about the engine options though , the 2.0 @ 158 hp vs the 1.5 turbo charged @ 180 hp I think there’s better longevity and fuel economy with the 2.0 ?
Damn feels like you're working overtime on these reviews
Excellent review. I don't need to hear how the exhaust sounds when revving the crap out of a car. Your reviews are concise and cover what matters. Thanks guys.
With how good the new Civic is I’m really looking forward to the new Acura Integra. The Integra is already confirmed to have a manual transmission available so if you’re considering the new Civic hatch with manual wait for the Integra.
i just put down half a deposit on one of these today (sport touring hatchback) and im coming out of a 3 year lease on a 2019 accord EX i loved my accord but i simply didnt need anything that big im super excited for my car to get here just need to wait for it to arrive run a credit check and then sign it all up im pumped im also getting alot more out of this car than on my old accord. great review im truly psyched to get mine
Coming from a 2013 Gli Jetta I'm ready to buy this car next year. I really don't need anymore power; actually to downgrade for my sake. The Civic is pretty light too. I daily drive 20 miles x 2 on backroads with deer and animals. I drive moderate most days and always mornings. I love the looks of the Civic Sport. Indeed has a touch of European to it 👌 Edit: Id still rather have a GTI manual but that's in the future.
I can't wait to get this car or a newer version in a couple years. I have a 2007 Scion TC with a hatchback and I love the amount of room I get in such a small space.
i got a 2007 scion tc too. mines blue. i was surprised by the mount of space too lol
@@justifiedmasagony3635 It way bigger than it looks! The other day I had 2 people and 3 dogs in it and still had extra space 😅
@@justifiedmasagony3635 It's such a good car. Mine has almost 210,000 miles
@@abrielle13 damm mine has 80k on the engine and 133k on transmission. the owner before me engine blew up a 50-55k miles (oil problems) and had it replaced
@@abrielle13 good to know mine can last long during these times
Get this hatch with the N/A engine and manual and I bet it’ll last a very very long time.
Yeah cuz GDI is more maintenance
@@edgaryzen4925 The 2.0 is an EarthDreams engine, so it’s still a GDI, just no turbo in this application.
With how good this car is, I can’t wait to see how the Type R turns out. Maybe this time around I can finally pick one up without a dealership foaming at the mouth asking $15k over MSRP.
Unfortunately I think that will be harder to accomplish now then when the 10th gen type R hit the market in 17'.
Things have just gotten completely out of control. Everyone that bought one for markup fed into that.
Yeah, it will just start with a much higher msrp this time.
I bought a 2019 MAZDA 3 AWD a few yrs ago. I absolutely love the car, I have no complaints. But if this car was available in 2019 I probably would have bought this CIVIC. The name HONDA speaks for itself. Good review! as always..
I'm 46 and I will be buying a civic hatchback here in about a month.
43 and I want to get a 2023 stick shift hatchback in September.
@@tachometer-flac63 and I bought a 24 sport touring hatch manual. Great car!
What? This is literally the sedan hatch “sport back.” No idea what you’re trying to say here.
Love this new Civic and your stellar review (not just because you’re gushing over it). Honda just hits that sweet spot between Toyota and Mazda. This new Civic delivers on every front and you’d really just have to love something else not to consider choosing this first.
I'm "over forty" and I love my 10th gen si coupe.
Heck yea they are cool
Me too! 2020 si
Yesss! I smile whenever I hear old people praise the 10th gen civic. Its refreshing cause many people (older folks especially) hate on them

Been in the Honda fam since 1989...My father bought that year's Honda Prelude 😁
Great video, guys! I have ordered the 2023 Sport Touring Hatchback with the manual transmission. The salesman said I am the first person to have purchased one with the manual from him, haha. I am so excited!
You won’t regret it. I smile every time I roll my own gears
I recently purchased the 2024 version sport touring hatchback manual. Very happy with it!
I find it so interesting that they both love this car so much. With an interior that is equivalent to Luxury cars, it has a price point that tip toes on last decade’s Luxury car’s price points.
I would buy this Civic over ANY small CUV, period! Truly a great car and thank you Honda for offering a manual transmission.
Not awd though
Miss the old 90’s civics with a manual
Will they add a wagon back that is as long as the sedan? As a Jetta/Golf wagon is to the Golf.
Not in America
Probably never, that's basically a CR-V or HR-V.
No!
This IS a wagon with a sleek roofline. It's almost as long as a sedan. What they need to make is a true hatback that's actually smaller than a sedan.
They nailed everything 👏 awesome beautiful car that fits a range of drivers and budgets. And because of quality and resale value will be great in used markets. Sometimes RUclips reviewers forget categories for cars and affects sales because some people trust them.
This review was done so perfectly that I am now considering a new civic hatch over my aging Focus ST. Excellent quality as always!
