  • Ryan - editor and writer for Decksbye3.com where I share how to build better decks. With a huge focus on low-maintenance composite decking. Decks with more time to relax with less work to be done.
In this video, I explain what is under your deck is as important as what is on top to help it look good and last. Explaining the importance of ventilation, correct ground cover and landscape fabric versus plastic under your deck.
A few mentions and links to help you build better deck.

Great info about the difference in 15 mm rock vs crushed asphalt with sand. It makes sense how weed seeds have a better chance of using sand to incubate and grow. Thank you.

Is it recommended to put some thing on top of the landscape fabric-stone, sand, etc.? And what’s the harm (if any) of just leaving it as is?

We put decorative rock under our first deck and weeds still took root. not deep enough. I will try your rock idea this time for the new build.

Weeds are a tricky thing to control. Hopefully this time it works.

Never use a membrane dirt stops the drainage after a couple of years then the moisture sits on top and starts to rot any wood in contact
