The distance has nothing to do with the material type. The distance is governed by code, ICC...

How would you finish the top landing edge with composite decking so it looks nice and you don’t see a cut edge??

How would you attach composite stairs with metal stringers? Carriage bolts on the edges? I’m not sure I like being able to see the hardware.

The toes and heels don’t line up in this scenario. Making a miter fit isn’t really about adjusting one side. Seriously though I have a deck company doing guaranteed twice as much work this guy and we would never do this. Also glue your miters as a pro tip

Best composite decking product I've seen is called Lumber Rock. They have solid boards with the color all the way through.

Trex material is softer and scratches really easy. Timbertech is a lot more durable.

To get a perfectly square corner, you want to aim for a measurement ratio of 3:4:5. In other words, you want a three-foot length on your straight line, a four-foot length on your perpendicular line, and a five-foot length across. If all three measurements are correct, you'll have a perfectly square corner. Learn to square your decks and you don't have to be a hack. 👍
