@@ethan3387 guardian makes up for it by having a lot of mechanics or skils that will sustain them. But they are pretty fragile if you mess up the use of their defense. Also prone to burst.
This is still the best intro video into what class you should start with. The explanation for the 9 classes and how they are grouped just makes so much sense.
yennick Kk There is no shame in clicking some of your skills. I'm a guy who generally always makes female MMo characters because yeah, they always have the better customisation options and if i'm going to be dressing up and staring at a characters ass for 100's of hours it might aswel be a chick.
honestly gotta disagree, necro is the worst class to start the game with because it gives you the first impression that the game is boring as shit, while it's only the necromancer that is boring as shit, for a magical starting class guardian is far better and more fun
Well it's just your opinion. I main necro because it's so fun to play for me, but whenever I jump into guardian, I quit after a while, because it's like a poorer version of warrior.
I know this is an old video. But it's a damn good one. No intro, no droning on and on about some random thing that nobody cares about. People click on beginner guides for info not to listen to your life story. Im glad i found this video.

If you gotta level 80 boost right away and want something that will survive noob mistakes and still take down the mobs, while being interesting....Reaper Necromancer using a Minion build. You don't even need an elite skill with warrior and can just use a 5 signet build and be fine.
@@CrimFerret well that is right and i know that, since i have 14 characters lvl 80, ascended gear on some full ascended viper on main etc etc... I liked the video and i was very lost when i started 6 years ago... So thank you for the tip but it wasn't really for me.. ;D
Wish I had seen this 4 years ago when I started playing GW2. I went with Ele of course! Quit playing a couple times and coming back this time gonna use y necro as my main. Great video.
A like and a comment for not having an annoying intro. Also getting right into what I wanted to know right away. And not asking for likes. Excellent work my friend. Not to mention the video is great.
Don't Pick necromancer. It teaches you bad habits that don't translate at all to other classes. once you've learned how to play the game, play necromancer. But don't pick necromancer unless you want to learn how to play the game wrong.
I actually had the opposite experience. I picked Engi first and then Mesmer and had a really bad time. Necro actually ended up teaching me mechanics because I was able to stop trying to stop spending so much time learning my class and focus on learning the actual game. Now when I play new classes I can focus more on them because I now know most mechanics in this game.
Matrixinity1 I've spent a lot of time teaching people in the game and forums how to use necromancer and from my experience with them is that a vast majority of them fail to grasp mechanics and weaknesses of other classes. I've had several necromancer mains express that they didn't understand what they were doing wrong when using something like Mesmer. On a side note, when I started GW2 the necromancer was the absolute most difficult leveling experience at the time. It isn't now, but it's overall DPS was about a 3rd of what it is now, life force gain took about 4 different encounters to Max instead of 1 or 2, condi wasn't a real option because the stack caped at 25, torment didn't exist, necros couldn't use burning, Death shroud would be burned away in one encounter, you only had 4 skills in shroud, fewer traits to work with, no stability, no projectile blocks, minions didn't have the 90% damage reduction in pve when not being focused and would be pacifists most the time, they couldn't heal themselves in shroud even with life stealing. They used to be the absolute worst class to level and play. They've gotten much better. As for what I think is a good class to teach people how to play? Guardian. Their mechanics lend itself well to the diversity of the game. They have easy access to combo finishers early on, provide a tone of different boons, have a mechanic that can be both selfish and supportive, They have so much self healing and blocks that the player is forced to consider their skills more. Unlike the necromancer which actively locks you out of skills has 3 combo finishers while leveling two of which are on staff and hard to notice and the other is attached to a minion and hard to notice, very little access to boons. Guardian in my opinion is the best teaching tool. Also Mesmer and engineer are hard for people to grasp at first. Or so I've been told. I love those two classes, and don't find them that difficult. Rangers I find difficult. But I'm odd. But my perspective is not based on my opinion but rather my obsession and the vast majority don't see ranger that way.
DatBread BreadBoy I highly disagree. Out of all of the necromancers mains I've played with who started as necromancer I am the only one who has the versatility of play style to adapt to other classes. Everyone else I've played with can't adapt to new play styles and are eternally locked on reaper.
Lilith Geisler most of my friends started as necros/mesmers and guardians and there really good and have opened up to other classes having a open mind... im just starting the game and i really enjoy the people
That's true if you buy Path of Fire, but I feel like even then after you finish the mount masteries it just becomes meh, 3 month waits in between every update is too long and the raid community is cancerous. i found fractals to be just as boring as dungeons. Also the fact that you craft the best gear rather than raiding for it is absolutely retarded and killed half of my incentive to keep playing this game
Nothing bad about shelving the game every so often, not that hard to catch up, and at least to me just doing quests and events lvling a new character is fun. Would do that every couple of years or months.
TBH I have a really hard time playing core Necro - but Ele is really simple and easy for me. I know I'm probably weird but it's how my brain works. The themes in Necro confuse the hell out of me because they don't match what you might expect a necromancer to be able to do in the order you might expect them to do those things. For example, Necro's have a sort of Vampire build but it doesn't work the way a traditional vampire build would be expected to work. It's not based on bleeding damage, bleeding doesn't give you health - but there's this whole other dynamic of life absorption instead that really only works with a dagger and it's confusing as hell to figure out. Each of the themes in Necro have this problem, there are very powerful and useful effects in places that instinctively you wouldn't expect from a class that introduces itself in character creation to be connected to either a demon, a wraith, or skeleton. I've had so many issues with Necro I've rage quit probably a dozen necro characters. Elementalist on the other hand does have a lot of details to remember, but if you go into this class thinking about a basic wizard class with low health - or that it's naturally going to be a glass cannon, because virtually all basic wizard classes are exactly that - then I think you'll be pretty much ok with this class. Just stick to fire staff for a while until you can experiment with other options and your set as long as you remember to keep your distance from enemies, just like you would any other glass cannon class in any other game. But I do admit that there are plenty of ele combinations that just simply don't work because you're just too weak to handle that type of combo - fire scepter is an example, so that's something game designers should probably work on improving but otherwise if you treat ele like it's simple to play it really becomes really simple to play. (And I say this as a person who started with ele as my first class ever).
So i have been playing Guild Wars since the beginning so i don't need this information i just loved the fact you just gave the answer in the first 10 seconds of the video.
This Video Is Fucking AWESOME!!! This is literally the best "What class Should I pick" video I've ever seen this must be more popular to help more new players.
This is the best class guide I've seen for any game in a long time. Straight to the point and all the info I was looking for. "These are the easy ones, these are the hard ones, these ones will make you want to blow your brains out." "This is what each one does, and what the look like" Done. Simple. Didn't need to spend 10 minutes on each class to tell me "This one shoots lazers, and it hurts real good, and this one looks tanky but isn't"
I made my own version of a Bunker/Shout Guardian, and never looked back... I run champ hunting groups and legendary hunting groups often as a commander, so being a guardian really fits the role, and allows me to heal lots of people just by being near to them, and using shouts I can remove a lot of de-buffs and turn them into buffs for them instead.
LMAO! Awesome video, man. Great sum up. I just started playing about a month ago and you hit it right on head. I did play the original GW but this is by far a lot more involved in my opinion. Anyway, thanks for the great video!
I think in the character creation menu, professions on the left column are beginner friendly, with the middle column being intermediate, and the right column being advanced.
Cant say I agree Guardian is a profession needed in all game modes especially Firebrand in PvP and WvW for the amount of you heals you do and then DH the amount of power you can get on it can be just as high as a warrior
This is too real! I started the game 3 years ago with an elementalist and I dropped the game in 3 days for like 5 months. I later started over with a mesmer (still my main) and loved it ever since.
Man, you got me in the Elementalist part, that was EXACTLY what I did, picked it because, well, it was a mage, and got fucked up after the tutorial. Now I play as a ranger. Nice content!
Actually my first character was a thief and I felt like she was very noob friendly. Like, deleting whole groups of mobs with my shortbow without getting hit, one shotting single enemies with c&d-backstab and just moving around the map extremely quick. Also stealth prevented a lot of useless fights. Back in the days skipping mobs was harder is some situations, so shadow refuge was a bless. And also the thief signet was the only one in the game that granted 25% movement speed (others used to give 10%) and that was a big plus for exploring
for newbies I would recommend Warrior or Necromancer, because both are overall effective, quite easy to learn and forgiving and offer a lot of fun, so one can focus on the new content without getting distracted by learning a complecate class mechanic at the same time
Step 1: Pick thief
Step 2: Get duel pistols
Step 3: press 3
step 4: profit
that's what i am doing.. and i got bored XD
but the damage is ridiculously high LMAO
mobs, no you can just press 3 and expect to win
thiefs,: duals pistols crit, goes brrrrrrrr
The beginning of this video IS EXACTLY WHAT I DAM WANTED TO SEE.

0:32 You know what? Even though that was an intro, you still gave me all the info i ever won't need on GW2, since i stopped playing it mid year 2, and may or may not go back to play it some day when i decide the expansions are worth it, in a really short video, i'm subbing.
in the 2020s this is how youtubers will explain games because of our ever shrinking attention spans
It is now 2021 as I watch this video.. Watched the first minute and went to the comments.. Dunno why..
Liked and subscribed, I was expecting a sarcastic or rude video but you raise excellent points about starting classes for new players.
Yes......... Because they have the best hair styles........
and best asses to :) but really they do have better hairstyles being asura most of time even female ones have less hair styles
I'm a guy who generally always makes female MMo characters because yeah, they always have the better customisation options and if i'm going to be dressing up and staring at a characters ass for 100's of hours it might aswel be a chick.
I'm liking and subbing to you, just because this video's format speaks to my soul. I NEVER like and subscribe so fast. Thank you for being so quick.
honestly gotta disagree, necro is the worst class to start the game with because it gives you the first impression that the game is boring as shit, while it's only the necromancer that is boring as shit, for a magical starting class guardian is far better and more fun
EpicRevelation Necro is the master race. It's meh main :3
Wow, all of this was wrong. I can't believe I could find more wrong in a sentence than this. :D
Well it's just your opinion. I main necro because it's so fun to play for me, but whenever I jump into guardian, I quit after a while, because it's like a poorer version of warrior.
EpicRevelation as a necro OTP, i gotta agree
scepter/focus ele best starting class lul kek
You have very Hank green vibe to your video. Love it.
The clicking.... I can't....
I know this is an old video. But it's a damn good one. No intro, no droning on and on about some random thing that nobody cares about. People click on beginner guides for info not to listen to your life story. Im glad i found this video.
Ow thats why I was so good at the game in the beginning I choose the ranger and I am still playing with the ranger
i have hot u can become a druid if had better gpric card and hot and path of fire id jump back in but my current pc card is ass
Thanks for the video. I just started this game and picking a class was so overwhelming.
How to get to lvl 80. Pro guide
-Pick Guardian, get one GS
-Press 5 and then spam 2
-?????????
Congratulations if you followed this guide you can get in 80 in 5 days.
-PS if you are a new player make a Mesmer.
David Klein 5 day? Wtf that’s forever. I get my other classes to 80 in 20 min. Also it isn’t with tombs
Hawk Jiang how ?
only way i know is by using tomes, which gives you a level each one
Stop dreaming xD
Jonay Correa technically you can spent a couple hundred gold and craft yourself to level 80
best video ever. You have no idea how tired I am with people beating around the bush and having long ass intros and shit with videos I want quick answers to. You nailed this! Fucking genius!
Pls make clear that this guide is entirely for people that are completely new to the game and have (untill now) absolutely no interest in end game content
even in endgame druid and both reaper and scourge are great classes.
well it is not actually, i know the game for some time, watching videos and reading a lot about it, still think the way he exposes his expertise on the game is not only helpfull but also really satisfying, the dude gets to the point man, u cant complain about a video like that, its a jewel on the web, i wish the youtubers have lessons with this man, like really LONG lessons
Goddamn thank you for making a concise and to the point video answering the main question asked.
1:13 basically my experience
Well I was not planing on playing GW2 but now I feel smart in a matter of 6 minutes 32 seconds. Thanks you for the informative non time wasting content!
Since i guess 50% of the players start with a lvl 80 boost, their real question is:
Which elit to play?
Would you make a video about that? :D
So thank you for the tip but it wasn't really for me.. ;D
Welp- loved your humor. Was not expecting your non-into intro! Loved it.
What build do you use I just came back with my 80 mesmer. Having trouble figuring out what to do.
Tristan Pope for PvE use this build metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Chronomancer_-_Utility_DPS
A video that gets straight to the point? This is unheard of
Wish I had seen this 4 years ago when I started playing GW2. I went with Ele of course! Quit playing a couple times and coming back this time gonna use y necro as my main. Great video.
Your little asura sped up sounds like a squeaky toy. Its a adorable and I love it.
I started playing this game a week ago I choosed thief and I'm happy I do not regret it at all anfd sry for my english
Lil Vampire #3
ModestestMouse ?
I started with Thief 3 years ago. Quite happy with my Daredevil character
Just started a thief as my first also just a day or so ago and really liking it
Lil Angelika My main is thief cuz i like to one shot enemies with my deadeye
A like and a comment for not having an annoying intro. Also getting right into what I wanted to know right away. And not asking for likes. Excellent work my friend. Not to mention the video is great.
:You can't tell me what to pick!
*remembers that I own all the classes anyway so technically I did do what he said*
:Sh*t!
Oh man, this video reminds me of those times RUclips videos were straight to the point, thanks ❤️
Necros are really good starter....
DatBread BreadBoy I highly disagree. Out of all of the necromancers mains I've played with who started as necromancer I am the only one who has the versatility of play style to adapt to other classes. Everyone else I've played with can't adapt to new play styles and are eternally locked on reaper.
Lilith Geisler most of my friends started as necros/mesmers and guardians and there really good and have opened up to other classes having a open mind... im just starting the game and i really enjoy the people
You earned a sub 4 years later solely because of that musical intro. Fucking beautiful.
You've officially scared me away from guild wars 2.
Scared you away? How come?
eh I'd save your time, game gets insanely stale after level 80
Trippy idk what you're on about, the game doesn't really open up until level 80. That's when it gets good.
Subbed exclusively because you got straight to the damn point. Thank you.
Your video missed me by about 7 years. I've already chosen my starting profession but I appreciate your enthusiasm.
So i have been playing Guild Wars since the beginning so i don't need this information i just loved the fact you just gave the answer in the first 10 seconds of the video.
i love people who get straight to the point
This Video Is Fucking AWESOME!!! This is literally the best "What class Should I pick" video I've ever seen this must be more popular to help more new players.
One of the most helpful videos on GW2 I have seen, I commend you Sir! 💡
hey thanks! love the super quick concise summary! gonna start guild wars 2 today.
love your delivery - much helpful
This is the best class guide I've seen for any game in a long time. Straight to the point and all the info I was looking for.
"These are the easy ones, these are the hard ones, these ones will make you want to blow your brains out." "This is what each one does, and what the look like"
Done. Simple. Didn't need to spend 10 minutes on each class to tell me "This one shoots lazers, and it hurts real good, and this one looks tanky but isn't"
Well this got you a subscriber. Finally someone who gets to the point
Thanks for all the work Ian! I appreciate this channel.
Cant say I agree Guardian is a profession needed in all game modes especially Firebrand in PvP and WvW for the amount of you heals you do and then DH the amount of power you can get on it can be just as high as a warrior
dude love the way you explain things simple fast good
This is too real! I started the game 3 years ago with an elementalist and I dropped the game in 3 days for like 5 months. I later started over with a mesmer (still my main) and loved it ever since.
Thank you for the information! Nice to see a video get straight to the point for once instead of a bunch of filler bs. Really insightful!
Man, you got me in the Elementalist part, that was EXACTLY what I did, picked it because, well, it was a mage, and got fucked up after the tutorial. Now I play as a ranger. Nice content!
by far the most entertaining while being informative gw2 video I've ever seen, just sayin..
I dig your style. Just starting to look around at GW2 and you're just straight forward and cut the bull. Thanks.
That "video intros are a waste of time" song is flawless. Finally, just that alone is worth the sub.
BEST
GUIDE
EVER
Straight to the point, no bullshit
Excellent intro video.
Mesmer was the reason I preordered GW2.
for newbies I would recommend Warrior or Necromancer, because both are overall effective, quite easy to learn and forgiving and offer a lot of fun, so one can focus on the new content without getting distracted by learning a complecate class mechanic at the same time
That intro was the greatest I've ever seen ever subbed immediately.
I also click my skills, don't even have them bounded rip.
