Unfortunately since iOS 17 the iPhone lightning to USB adapters have not been working. We're sorry about that! The only way to use external mics with a Lightning iPhone now is a TRRS splitter / adapter
Huge thanks for the Info, man! Since I've bought the iPhone 15 Pro a couple of weeks ago and I also wanted to start this year with Content Creating, I thought of using my iPhone as a starter Set mainly because of the camera quality but also I want it to have a bigger purpose than just taking consuming content and taking photos/making videos. Greetings from Germany!!
Hi! Just a few questions- 1. You can record AND edit audio and video podcasts with Riverside,is that right? (So that would say, eliminate the use of a software like Descript?) 2. From what I can gather from watching some of your videos, you can record video podcasts in Riverside with an iPad or iPhone BUT you still need to edit on a desktop or laptop is that correct ? If true, When will Riverside have the ability to Edit episodes on an iPhone or iPad app? 3. I have an iPhone 13. I can follow these steps but is it possible to just use a lightening cable to connect my usb mic to my phone? Thanks these videos are super helpful 👍🏻
Glad they're helpful! 1. Yes you can record AND edit with Riverside, and we have a transciption-based editing (deleting words or sentences to edit the content) too. 2. You are correct that editing needs to be done in the browser of a laptop or desktop computer. Working on it! 3. You'll still need the Lightning to USB camera adapter and then connect to a USB mic with an iPhone 13. A straight Lightning to USB cable won't let the phone recognize the mic.
Thank you for creating this video - so helpful! Is there a way to use an iPad with my iPhone 14 just as you did in the first part of this demo with an iPhone 15?
To go live with Riverside, you'll need to use a laptop or desktop and connect your social platforms there. More info here! ruclips.net/video/JTJmCT3wKAQ/видео.htmlsi=Pdg0iGbdLTbFh81K
I have got the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Is it still possible to use my iPad (which has USB C) to view what is being displayed on my iPhone screen? If so, what's the configuaration for this? Thanks
Technically yes, if you get a Lightning to HDMi adapter and then use the Orion app and an. HDMI / USB-C capture device. I show it here: ruclips.net/video/V0hKn9qHP-E/видео.htmlsi=FcWjlsSdAUDKqP79
8 people total can record in a Riverside studio, and the Riverside app doesn't automatically block calls, so we suggest turning on Do Not Disturb mode to prevent that from happening!
Thanks for the info!! What about incorporating multiple old iPhones for multi cam? Can I just connect the phones to wifi and use the invite link feature?
Your'e welcome! You can do that, just be sure to mute the secondary devices otherwise you'll hear feedback. You can also use our Secondary Camera feature. I explain here: ruclips.net/video/1hRbYg_iXnk/видео.htmlsi=ygu9zJqQjOF13RCJ
What I need is the ability to record the iPad screen with voice over audio and an overlay for riverside. Streamlabs is not it…but neither is Riverside yet. I don’t show my face all the time, but do share video and audio.
For that, a desktop setup will serve you better and using a video switcher. You can connect the iPad to a video switcher like ATEM Mini Pro via HDMI, plus have your cameras connected, and Riverside will recognize the video switcher as a video input!
I'm aware but was suggesting a Riverside feature where I could go live, stream my gameplay, and just my voice if I wanted and need not do any other set up. There are other apps that do this and set ups of course. Just prefer if it was@@Riversidefm
Hello. Thank you. Can I use the Riverside app on my ipad and then choose my iphone as camera and my mic/headphone as áudio, directly in the ipad (which would be used as the digital studio and usable during the videocast)?
Thanks! And I don't have one of those phones to test, but when I've tried using a Pixel 6a, not all those devices would work. Some USB mics wouldn't even work when connected directly, so can't say for sure.
Is it possible to use the same iPhone 15 setup for my iPhone 14 but with the USB-C interface connected to a "USB C to Lightning" adapter then to my iPhone.
Unfortunately since iOS 17, the Lightning to USB Camera adapter has not been working consistently. We would recommend the Lightning to headphone TRRS adapter and then splitting that into a mic and headphone jack.
If I’m correct, couldn’t I just use airplay to mirror my screen while recording? Because I don’t have an iPad. All I have is my iPhone, 15 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro and a galaxy S-10 plus in addition to my MacBook Pro and airplay capable TV that I plan to use as a monitor.
You could certainly do that, but AirPlay screen mirroring does take significant resources on the device an may hinder the live call performance. If you have a MacBook Pro, I would suggest using that to record and having your iPhone act as a webcam using Continuity Camera. Question!! Is it possible to connect two microphones to an iphone? My friend and I want to start a podcast and we have two microphones with USB-C ports. If we bought an adapter that can connect the two microphones to the iphone, would that work? Thank you!!! Love your videos.
Thanks! And you can use some interfaces with an iPhone, like the Focusrite Vocaster Two, and connect two XLR microphones to the iPhone. If you record with Riverside, it will combine those two mics into one channel, just be aware. I show how to do that here: ruclips.net/video/V0hKn9qHP-E/видео.htmlsi=Qs1XwKDsympd9tI8
Hey! Unfortunately, the USB-C hub method only works with iPhone 15 and newer. Even with a lightning to USB adapter, older iPhones don't support hubs and setups like this.
I connected my 12 pro to the camera usb/usb c splitter. Riverside app doesn’t show the dialog and I am not sure if I am recording from my external mic or the inbuilt iPhone mic
iPhone models with Lightning have not supported external USB mics since iOS 17 unfortunately. This method only works with iPhone 15 and newer now, and for older models we would recommend a TRRS splitter method.
Hi I bought the microphone in this video , I plug headphones in the audio technica 2100x after plugging usb c in my iPhone 15 pro, I only can hear myself for a split second then I can’t monitor myself as it doesn’t produce my voice in my headphones for some readon
Unfortunately you would need an audio interface with two inputs for a setup like that. Here's a video on multiple, in-person recordings with Riverside: ruclips.net/video/SK1sygqMkR8/видео.htmlsi=QZW2WdTnlWH3a38Z
Using the Riverside app! It records both side of the call and then you can download the audio from your dashboard, the other person doesn't have to send you anything directly.
I have a USB-B microphone (Blue Yeti) going into the Anker USB-C hub plugged into power, then that’s connected to my iPhone 15 pro. I can’t get the phone to use the blue yeti on Riverside. Do you know what setting I need to change?
If you download the free app Ferrite with the same setup, do you see the mic appear as the input? If not, it may be that the iPhone doesn't recognize the mic itself.

Are you connecting the mic directly to the iPhone or any hub in-between? And when connecting to Riverside, do you see the pop-up with Yes / No options? Make sure the physical switch on the mic is flipped on as well.

Directly in to the mic! Most USB mics have a headphone jack for that.

I am trying the same layout with you, but your quality is far better than mine. Is there something that I can do to fix the camera quality problem?
