Woodturning - Hybrid Burl Goblet
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 22 сен 2024
- Stabilised burl turned into a hybrid wedding goblet with two captive rings. It was a freshly cut burl/burr but spent 30hrs in the oven to dry out then stabilisation process could begin. Mixed with green resin powder what turned into more like blue after casting in the pressure pot. 2 captive rings were added during wood turning and sprayed with lacquer to extra shine. 😊

i like your video
I love your creations. Amazing!
It's probably a dumb question, but I'm really curious to know if the goblet is functional. Obviously, I am ignorant about this kind of work. Even if it's just a piece of art, it's beautiful. This is the kind of art that I can appreciate. Thanks for sharing your talent.
@@OkayImLisa Thank you. It is mainly for decoration purpose. Just like most of my items I look at them most like as am artistic creations to brighten up a home/gallery
Why do you put things in that big pot?
When he was alive, my brother always made these goblets with these little hula-hoops around them - only in miniatures! He made them all in his woodshop class in our high school and I took shop because of him but I never got that good, lol. I always wondered how he made them! I actually got kind of emotional, watching this, realizing that this must have been how he did it. Silly.
Our woodshop teacher really loved him, too... he was one of his favorite students. He [teacher] made the urn for his ashes when he died, and he still has my brother's various creations displayed throughout his class 10+ years later.
Thank you very much for sharing this!
o7 to your bro
Very sad. May I ask how he passed away? Art makes us immortal.
@@Archiekunst We'd love to know, too. He was perfectly healthy and then one day, he just collapsed. He fell into a coma at the hospital, and then came to for half a day. Then he fell back in again, but this time his organs starting shutting down, one by one, until he was completely brain dead and kept alive by life support. He was 23 and I was 21 at the time.
It really was difficult because our mother couldn't handle it and signed Power of Attorney over to me, and I had to make the decision to take him off life support. I don't regret that decision, but it's still a difficult one. There were autopsies (I'd requested a second one later), but no one could figure out what exactly the cause of death was.
This video really made me emotional and want to go look at some of his trinkets he'd made. You're right that they immortalize him in a way :) thank you for that sentiment.
@@olgs37 Sorry for your loss.
I'm new to these woodturning videos, and am totally stunned by the imagination, creativity and skill on display. It makes me appreciate the amount of time/care that goes into these works of art. Bravo!
Thank you 😀
totally agree beautiful works of art so enjoyable to watch.
You pretty much just took the words right out of my mouth! I am in awe 😱💖
Same here as I watched my first one yesterday. Today RUclips suggested some wood turning videos and I watched part of one then clicked on another but they just weren’t as satisfying as these. So here I am!
Hahaha same here, watched my first yesterday and I am now hooked. It's like some kind of magic.😮❤
Сказать нечего.Остаётся только восхищаться!👏
Vero e Giusto!!!
Sabrina 👍👋
Nobody in the whole wide world could do that better. Never stop doing that. My compliments.

Stunning. I normally get bored when I see craftsmen making resin tables and bowls but this one is extraordinary. Along with your metal seal at the bottom this product becomes top notch.
Absolutely gorgeous!
Wow that is one of the most detailed and coolest things I've seen
100% guaranteed I’d die of this was one of the choices in Indiana Jones & the Last Crusade.
VIELEN LIEBEN DANK...FRIEDEN und FREIHEIT...
Wow that is stunning! I just love the combo of wood and resin. 😍
I admire and am increasingly enchanted by your work! Congratulations!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
i find these types of videos really relaxing keep up the good work!
you simply wake up and piss excellence sir David.....that's a master piece.
Thank you so much 😀
I love your unusual wood work. Beautiful!
Always enjoy watching a master craftsman.
Thanks 👍
I'm amazed by how much material simply vanishes in these turning videos. It is like magic. Using the goblet to polish the inside of the rings is a neat idea.
This is REAALY amazing! Thanks for sharing your work with us! I appreciate your efforts!
Glad you enjoy it! Thanks Carol :)

I think this has been my favorite piece so far.
That is gorgeous, definitely gorgeous! Great choice of resin colour! Well done!
Thank you 😀
WOW!! WOW!!! WOW!! What an astoundingly beautiful work of art.
New to this channel, but just subscribed. This was masterful, loved watching you create this!
Thank you so much 🙂
See??? This is how you do it!! Not burning people to death like those dangerous "tutorials"... You're work is amazing!!! 🙌🏻❤️🙌🏻
Beautiful work, David. I was surprised by how blue it turned out. It really did look quite greenish teal as you mixed the resin. I think the blue is much prettier, great job!
Thank you Lucy 😀 I tried new resin pigments and they seem to shift colours during curing. But agree the blue was a better colour match with the wood so it is a happy accident 🙂
The captive rings were an absolutely masterful touch
Thx
This takes me back...to watching my dad out in his shop!
This is beautiful. I love the colours together. I do wish you had polished it more instead of spraying a finish onto it, but it still looks great. Great video. 👍
Thank you! 😊

Hello, how do you manage to keep in the degasser? If I put it under the edge, then in the chamber the resin rises up and pours out

Please do the same for me
David, I live in cali and have wood from China nice big 7" x 7" x 52". Maybe we can work something out!!! Hit me back!

my grandpa mel turned a rattle for me and my sister when we were born, and they both have those captive rings. I always wondered how he did it. I never got to meet him, but his work in wood turning has made a huge impact on the art form, and it’s cool to learn more about it 22 years later ☺️
Hello David Let me just say that it is awesome to watch you create the things you do on here! I can watch for hours!! Also I was wondering if there is somewhere I could purchase/order a goblet like the one made here?
Hi Kurt, Thank you 😀 Please have a look at my website (link in description) for more of my items. We can also discuss bespoke order if you drop me an email via my website. Many thanks
I was “TODAY YEARS OLD” when I first saw how they do those rings on stems … so very cool ❤️❤️

Goblet for a King
A wooden tankard with those materials would be amazing, can never find one with a unique design like that goblet.
Belongs in a museum
I'm so envious cause I don't have an ounce of artistic blood in me! But I absolutely love your work Dave! God has blessed you with amazing skills!
Thank you :)

Magic!
That is just beautiful!
Thank you so much 😀
I've watched several videos from several users and this is the first time I've seen someone make an object with a complex outline other than some natural details left at the top. Awesome! The rings around the goblet's neck are a nice touch.
Thank you
