Jack get yourself a mechanics leather glove for your left hand. It protects against heat and woodchips and still gives you great tool,control and feel.

When I first dug this root ball out the ground and sprayed the soil off I thought “ wow, the possibilities, I could do so much with this” I then stood at the lathe with it for about 2 hours like a Mexican stand off trying to work out how to mount it to get any more than a thimble out of it.. it was one of the most difficult pieces iv had, from a planning point of view. I can't even imagine what the vibrations of turning these odd shaped pieces do to the bearings in your headstock or the stiffness and tolerances in your banjo and tailstock.
