  • Our favorite fashion historian Raissa Bretaña fact checks the historical accuracy of the wardrobes from main characters Noah Calhoun (Ryan Gosling) and Allie Hamilton (Rachel McAdams). She explains the evolution of each layer of the iconic styles of dress from the 1940s along with the advent of the teenager.

      Reminds me of the introductions to PBS airings of British shows. Unnecessary, it resulted it cuts to the shows.

    This movie had the best costumes and the most toxic relationship that I ever saw.
    So nice to see Prof Bretana again 😍 I just loved her naughty gesture at 5:25 🤣

      @@lorashukuryan4121 I mean its alittle the constant fighting and then in love and then fighting and in love. Also Noah kinda forcing her into a date and to get interested in him. I would say overall I love the couple but it seems to make light of how much they fought and how regular people shouldnt argue that much

      @@lorashukuryan4121 it was extremely toxic lol. I just watched it last night after not watching it probably since I was a teen and Noah gave major stalker vibes and Ally was unhinged and abusive to Noah physically, she also cheated on her fiancé. They also fought like crazy. I still enjoy the movie and understand why others do as well, but it is also quite problematic if you really think about it

    I would love to hear your take on Atonement or The Aviator. Both are set in the 1930s.

      Atonement isn't historically accurate especially the famous green dress but it is iconic.

    I just want to know how Noah got up the stairs with his trousers around his ankles carrying Ally. Never could figure that out although I loved the movie.

    Hey Glamour, can you do one on 1998's The Mask or Zorro? I've always loved the costumes (wildly flamboyant though they are), but have always wondered how correct they were for the time period and location/cultural setting.

    1:16- Teenage look in the 1940s Ally's pre-high society wearing radiation clothes.
    8:52- The adult look of the 1940s of post-war look on Ally of the high society look, expensive clothes.

    About the long-sleeved sweaters and coats, not all summers are the same in every country/state/city especially in Seabrook where there's greens and lakes. It gets chilly in such places unless it's daytime, and Allie snd Noah hanged out at nighttime.

    Just a heads up. 3 of us were enjoying some of your videos on our TV at night. Everyone had to shield their eyes every time you came on. Your pure white background is fine on the computer but blinding on TV.

    This lady obviously knows her stuff but as a cultural historian myself you have to take in mind that this is set in the south as well as the fact that not everyone follows every little rule 100% we wouldn’t have change in fashion if people always followed the rules and income had a lot to do with it, if you were poorer or in a poorer community you were far less bound by the rules

    If I had the figure and money for it, I'd only dress in the 1940s fashion. It's my favourite era. It's less fussy than the 10s, more comfortable than the 60s and more modest than anything than anything that came after, especially today's "fashion"
