    Raissa is my favorite historian. She always understands that in some cases, the fashion had to meet the time period it was made in along with the time the story was taking place.

    What's frustrating is this crap still happens in women's sports. Like Serena Williams being fined and threatened with disqualification for wearing pants at Wimbledon. Or how the female beach volleyball players have to wear revealing bikini bottoms for no good reason. Those are just examples that come to mind, I'm sure there's plenty more.

      Just about every gymnastics teams rules regarding the high-cut leotards (when unitards should be fine and even modest, but not currently allowable).

      Its done to men as well. Look what happened when Mike Jordan wore his non compliant Nike shows on court. Hat to tell you this, but women usually get less restriction, not more, because they can always throw down the woke card.

      In elementary school we had shorts for softball. Eventually pants where given and it was stressed to us how “lucky” we where to get them. This is in late 90’s Oklahoma btw

    I love this movie! And I never thought that what the ladies were wearing as being too costumey. They look like regular 1940's fashions.

    Yes, smoking wasn't allowed, but that doesn't mean the girls didn't try to smoke in secret as those girls were doing in that scene (same with drinking, sneaking out to meet men, etc.). Plus, Dottie was wearing trousers inside the house the girls were living in and she was clearly in a leisure outfit rather than a traveling one she would don in public. I doubt the league would kick up a fuss as to what she wore in the privacy of the house.

    • @ser132
      @ser132 2 года назад +9

      yes, my understanding is that the no-trousers rule was for public. Inside their house it would most likely have been okay.

      Right, the rules were not like laws. There are many things people try to police in people doesn't mean it didn't happen

    I always assumed the costumes in the movie were a fictional creation because it's a movie. It's so interesting to learn that they were basically the actual design. I wish we still were hats everywhere

    The Rockford cap is incorrect because the actual Peaches cap was a white letter R on the front of the cap. It was not a red R inside a circle. I'd like to see her go over the outfits for the new TV series as well.

    I was so skeptical about this and by end of ep. 1 I was sold; y'all made me a believer. Roberta Colindrez & Chanté Adams are fierce talent on the rise - excited for them. Carson + Greta are definitely the new "Will they or won't they?" of primetime TV🍿🤩🔥😜
    haven't even got to ep 3 yet but hoping for more Meg stalter (her comedy is really growing on me). don't sleep on her 🤩

    *08:48* The girdle illustrated here is an _open-bottom girdle,_ *NOT* a "panty girdle" as described by the narrator.
    The two styles are noticeably different, since a panty girdle has separate legs -often extending to mid-thigh- and a _closed crotch._ Most girdles illustrated in this video have open crotches and NO LEGS.
    Anybody should know this, particularly a fashion history "expert."
