I have used this method many times and it works great. When I sew rows or blocks with batting together, I always use a half inch seam allowance instead of the usual quarter inch. I find the seams easier to press open and they lie flatter. I pick designs that using the half inch won't matter. Beautiful quilt!

Thank you for demonstrating this quilting method. I really love your fabric choices. The fabric patterns are different from what I have in the United States. I have a quilt top I made several years ago, that still needs to be quilted. But I cut the squares again for another fabric strip down the middle. Take care, Marion in Oregon, U.S.A.

Hi all, I am a newbie at quilting. I am by no means a seamstress. I like dappling in things. I recently started attending a quilting group of church ladies. The quilts they have complemented blew my mind. Now I am ready to try quilting. I love the idea of “row quilting “. I see that you did the “quilting-embossing“ before joining the rows. Is there a special pressure foot ? As I stated I am very new.

Love the quilt. On my to do list. I am a reasonably new quilter but I was just wondering about you comment about what side the batting should face to the top. I have researched it a bit and I am to believe that if you do not face it the right way up it may pill and fluffy bits may come through the quilt top. Not sure if it is correct but would like to hear your take on this. Thanks Desley

That’s cheap batting or blunt needles that will cause this reaction if the needles is blurting it rips that batting as it’s not a smooth piercing through as it’s quilts the same for cheap batting as it will it be constructed with long lasting quality fibres

Been thinking about another way to join the rows….make the first row just the top layer, and then assemble all 3 layers, with backing as well, as a quilted row. First row is like an unbound table runner.
Assemble the next row of top layer blocks, top layer only, and cut batting and backing the same size needed to form the next row, but now the fun part….
Put your pieced top and batting right side face down onto the top of the first row, align these, and then pin with the backing fabric right side facing up, to the back side of the first row, and stitch the seam. 🤔The layers will be: batting, new row top pieced layer, right side down, previous assembled row topside up and already quilted, then backing, right side up, wrong side to the table.
Then flip the pieces for the second row away from the seam. Your seam will be enclosed, no need for strips. Smooth down the layers, part the seam fully, perhaps trim the batting inside a bit to remove bulk (suggest only a thin batting for this) and organise so it’s smooth, press, pin and quilt it. You can also quilt over the area of the seam you’ve just worked.
This method does mean your backing goes on in strips as wide as the rows, but the quilting should disguise the fact. You only ever have the width of one row under your machine, but it will grow as wide as your quilt, to the left of the machine, so you need space for that.
Hope that’s interesting to you. Another use for stitch and flip technique

Wow, beautiful. How many fat quarters are needed for a lap quilt?

Beautiful quilt! Disappointing that in the final step you end up with adding the backing and having to deal with quilting the entire quilt -not something that I could manage.

Seeing you press onto the batting, I’d say be careful not to have your iron too hot and melt your batting if it’s synthetic!

Hello, I only do QAYG. I just found your channel, watched 2 tutorials and joined the channel. I’m so happy. On the 2nd tutorial a saw your “sewing machine” pin cushion. It is just so special. Can you share where you got it? I just love it! Your quilts are beautiful. You do great work. I’m so glad I found you!
