    I’ve been going crazy for the past few days trying to find this video because I thought you did such a good job of teaching. It’s a completely different technique from all the other quilt. Did you go but what I do like is that you don’t have to sew strips of fabric on the front and you don’t have to have to have piecing on the back. I just got a new Bernina sewing embroidery machine and I don’t want to go through hooping and unhooping the entire quilt but I would like to machine embroider individual blocks, and this method looks real good for me. I could then do a serpentine stitch down all of the seams. I have not done any quilt as you go method but as I say, I’d like to try it quilting blocks and doing it this way. I have no problem with quilting quilts that are about 60 across and 80 down so I think when I would do with your technique I would do serpentine stitches down the seams as well as borders if I add any to at least have some quilting on the back. Thank youfor being such a good teacher and a new technique

    I like your quilt; it turned out pretty. My only problem with it is that my understanding of 'quilt as you go' is to make it so we don't have to roll up a big quilt and finagle it through the harp of a small machine, struggling with the bulk and weight...as well as struggling to keep all layers smooth while quilting. By adding a backing to a full size quilt, it goes against the prime objective. I'm so glad YOU are happy with your method; that's all that matters in the end.

    Interesting technique. When I QAYG, I just sew through all 3 layers at the same time, including borders as a kind of flip and sew. I iron as I turn each piece to keep it nice and flat. I like seeing how others do it. Whatever way is convenient to you is the best method. 💜💜💜 AuntieEllen

    Thank you for doing this video, there are so many good techniques. The whole purpose for me to do Qayg is so I don't have to deal with quilting the large backing, keeping it flat and putting it through my domestic machine. For me, this does not serve my purposes for a large quilt but I would definitely use this technique for a smaller quilt.

    I love your technic and you do not have to stretch for too long when you are doing a big one . I will start one for a big king bed and it will be heavy job for me , I found it easier to quilt just the straight line when the quilt is finished , less long weight for me because I am disabled and I am doing my quilting which I love as a therapy. One question when you join the batting do you put them next to each other or you put on the the top and sew the zig zag. Thank you again for sharing you have a very clear way of teaching and easy to understand your beautiful accent .Happy Quilting

      Agree. Been quilting 40 years plus. Originally was all 3 layers. But you can do first 2 then add 3rd row at a time while adding all rows together. Block at a time would be too time consuming I would assume. QAYG great for those of us without long arm machine.

    • @CraftyQuiltingDesigns
      @CraftyQuiltingDesigns  Год назад

      Hi Cotton is preferred but you can use polycotton just don’t add steam when pressing when your building the blocks as it can distort the fabric.
      But once made, medium heat is good
      I also use a linen or cotton blend for table quilts/ runners etc You can experiment as you get confident with cotton blends etc for picnic blankets etc. conversely if you are making quilts for bedding cotton is good as it’s natural and maintains a good body temp washes well can handle heat when building the blocks but don’t be afraid to try different fibres as you will learn so much more and what you like working with
      Thanks for reaching out, I appreciate giving you my best opinion and sharing my experience. ❤️

    No offense, that was not qayg. You did a hybrid that seemed to make more work. You also instructed the viewer to turn each block upside down next to the one it is connected to - then broke your own rule randomly. I would not normally point this out, but since you are doing the quilt as instruction to others, you should have been more careful. That said - the finished product looked good.

      it is my take on a quilt as you go, my videos are about thinking outside the box to get the job done, not everyone likes the other method but thanks for viewing and commenting

      Do you recommend chiffon fabrics or not at all?

    • @CraftyQuiltingDesigns
      @CraftyQuiltingDesigns  Год назад

      @@lsalmon907 no chiffon is not suitable it’s too thin and will pull and ripple with the amount of stitching not sturdy, quilting is quite robust hence all the stitching to hold the 3 layers together

    A double-slice layer cake. Why did you quilt without the backing fabric?

    • @CraftyQuiltingDesigns
      @CraftyQuiltingDesigns  2 года назад +3

      Great question ….
      Because I wanted to show that you don’t have to cut the backing fabric for a QAYG you could add As a whole and create a different stitch / quilting pattern therefore eliminating adding strips on the back of the quilt which in turn looks as a normal quilt not QAYG

    Quilters are always curious and want to see how things are done. Even if you teach, actually especially if you teach. You need to be up on things in our world, how else are we going to satisfy the needs of our students.

    It says QAYO on your home page. I'm assuming that is a typo, am I right?

    I could never understand why QAYG is done on the batting only abd not all 3 layers at once.seems like more work and the quilting dies not show up on the back.

    It turned out very nice. I think you still might have had a difficult time putting the last backing sheet on. Picking up and manuvering the whole quilt seems like a big chore to me.
