Is there any way to get the pattern for that beautiful quilt being used as a tablecloth at very beginning of video…Is has a black ground …Is very bold and I love it..Any help would be greatly appreciated….Thank you so much
Can you do this without a template or with a homemade template can't his part be done with a machine?
THESE... these are absolutely fuggin' gorgeous woman! You've clearly out done yourself. Size, shape, color, pattern ALL stunning perfection, at its peak. Thank you for sharing, that you for being so dang good at what you do. ❤❤❤
I am not a quilter and I do not care for the design of a lot of quilts - I prefer the look of simple patchwork quilts. This rectangle/brick layout design I love! Your demonstration was clear and well done.
I agree! As impressive as it is with what all the machines can do these days, it just feels too gawdy and like it misses the point. But this hand-sewn style is so charming. And more talent involved IMO
yes! im a patch or brick lover, maybe even hexagons, but Im not into the fancy, complicated looking designs! Too busy for me
I’m the same, i love the crazy quilt look, so homespun. I’m going to do this. I love English paper piecing…this reminds me of that look. I try to do all quilts…quilt as you go, because they’re finished faster!
You are so right ! A great idea beautifully sewn. Brilliant !
Me as well! Not a quilter and the designs mostly are not for me nor I have the patience to sew quilts, but I LOVE this particular brick design. Makes me want to try it.
There are hardly any videos showing hand sewing quilt as you go methods. This video was fab, as I haven’t got a sewing machine and love hand sewing. Thank you 🤗
Thank you for using black thread. It is so much easier to see what you are demonstrating. Wonderful tutorial!❤
👁👁 I really like this style. It is something you can carry with you most anywhere, and continue with the work.
Thank you for this! I love hand sewing but find hand quilting to be so tedious and repetitive when doing a large blanket, but with this method it’s much smaller and you can change it up by switching between making rectangles and sewing them together! Much easier for us adhd crafters! I also like this method because it’s easier to tuck everything away and take breaks if you need.
I love that you're handstitching your work. My grandmothers made quilts during the Great Depression. They handstitched everything, and I want to pay them homage by doing the same ❤️
Aww this will be a lovely project for that. Thank you for watching x
I appreciate your slow thorough instructions. You're a good teacher, thanks.
Thank you x
Oh my gosh, this is one really beautiful quilt. I just stumbled upon your channel and have been enjoying this video immensely. I have never been much of a quilt person, although I have always admired the handiwork. I am 67 and have only just discovered English Paper Piecing. What a different world this has opened up for me. I am absolutely smitten by the process and look, and this quilt of yours seems to showcase it in such a beautiful way. The mindfulness of slow stitching has brought me such calm and peace…
I have never seen such a beautiful quilt. Everything about it sends me and I absolutely love it. Thank you so much for sharing.
Thank you, it is such an easy project to stitch aswell. EPP was how I got into hand stitching too.
Me encantó este proceso manuel de obtener algo hermoso como esa colcha. Tengo 73 años y creo que lo haré en algo pequeño como un camino de mesa. GRACIAS MIL POR TU TUTORIAL.
Thank you for using a different color thread than you normally would that makes it possible for me to see quite easily what you're doing which is what is missing from a lot of the tutorials you just can't see what they're doing with the black thread on white that you're using it's really easy to follow you thank you
I have started this brick work hand quilting. My first time hand sewing a quilt. I decided to use washable school glue for basting and it works quite wonderfully. Thank you for the inspiration.
I think these bricks will make beautiful additions to clothes pockets, bags etc. It's a great way of quilting. You have given me ideas thank you 💖
I have not seen this hand stitched method of quilt-as-you-go before. It looks like fun and you have clearly shown how to do it. Thank you!
I think it created a really neat edge with hand sewing!
I appreciate the time you have taken and the effort you made for this tutorial, very clear instructions. I am looking forward to making a quilt like this. Thank you! 💐
My mom used to call that a blind hem stitch. Thank you for this tutorial. ❤❤❤
Enjoyed watching your demo, Rachel. You have a gentle way of presenting.
Glad you enjoyed it x
I'm not sure why I love this pattern so much - maybe it's the charming patterns she's using. idk - so appealing.
Thank you for doing this Rachel. I love the brickwork effect.
You're welcome, it's really affective with the cream aswell. X
Using black as the backing could give it a pretty stain glass look ❤
Ooooo I've never considered that, but I always loved the stained glass quilts!
what a lovely collection of sweetly printed fabrics
I know I am late to the party I have recently started slow stitching and run my cotton thread through the edges of a block of beeswax it strengthens the thread and glides through the material much easier without leaving a residue I watched my mother do it so thought I would try.
Thank you for an excellent tutorial. I’d love to see the finished quilt, I’m sure it must be very attractive. Using the black thread whilst demonstrating is a very good idea.
You're welcome, I have only done a small section of the quilt so far but I will be sure to post updates on my channel x
Before you were finished with the demonstration, I went ahead and purchased the template 😊 Lovely work! Nice video! Thank you!🌸
I’m doing a QAYG hexagon quilt for my daughter. Lots of prep work but worth it in the end!!
I was quite scared🙀 until you did the quilting and then it all came together like I hoped it would and everything was alright again heeehee I need to try, so many scraplings
I think I could do this! Thanks for making it look manageable.
Love how this quilt is turning out, thanks for showing how those templates worked 😊
You're welcome Mandy, thank you for watching xx
I'm excited to find you. I always wanted to try quilting by hand stitching. The brick pattern is gorgeous.
7:08 I just recently found your tutorial and I love it. I need a project to go as my hands always want to be busy. I bought the templates and can’t wait to get started. Thank you for your sweet way of teaching. You are very easy to follow.
SUBSCRIBED! This is beautiful with the lovely fabrics and stitching. Looks like a calming project and can be taken anywhere and with few supplies. It
Thank you, yeah you can prep the blocks before hand and sew on the go!
I love this and I like the fact that you are not mitering the corners. I think on this the square corners look really good. Going to start a quilt similar to this… Except square instead of rectangle… and I will not be mitering my corners either!
Beautiful. I envy people who have patience like this. Wonderful.
Love this. I'm completely new to this. Really happy to find you. I'm from the UK and find so many channels from the US and am so happy to find you from here. You know you can get the products easily too. Thank you x
Welcome aboard!
I am dying to try this. I hand quilt and have yet to try this. Thank you for the inspiration
Historically, that was called a flat fell stitch, I believe, and was often used to hand stitch clothing (modern blind-hem stitching is based on that). I usually secure my flat fell stitched with a knotted backstitch. Your stitches are beautifully neat and I love the colors of your quilt!
This is a great project when travelling.
Thank you for showing us this block Rachel. I've caught the EPP bug, which has lead me into this sort of hand work. It's so soothing. It was amusing when you mentioned your nails - I was just thinking that you looked like a 'normal' person (please don't be offended!) as all the other You Tube tutorials look like they're done by hand models rather than real people. So thank you for that too. Thought this block would be good with my many unused jelly rolls, which I couldn't think of anything different to do with them - so thank you for that too lol.
Aww thank you for such a sweet comment! The EPP bug will stay with you for life, I hope you have lots of fun with your hand sewing. Yes someone else in the comments said that this would be good for jelly rolls, and I agree... if I could convince myself to cut into them xx
I don’t particularly care for the long nails either. The nails with glitter are so hard for me to watch. The hands of this lady were just perfect.
Focus has been fine! Thanks for the info. I love your fabric choices 💖
Perfect! Can't wait to use my Tula Pink fabrics for this project; perfect for a jelly roll that is so hard to cut up randomly without waste with traditionally-pieced jelly roll pattern. Thanks for this great tutorial! Will check out your other videos.
You're welcome, I hadn't consider jelly rolls but yes they would be perfect and there would be no waste at all!
Hi. I watched your video for the first time last night. I planned to comment on what a great teacher you are and how beautiful the blocks were, but your voice was so soothing that I fell asleep! Lol!!! I'm just getting into hand sewing. I love the pace and it is so relaxing! Thank you for sharing your gift.
That is such a sweet and funny comment, at least I didn't put you to sleep because I'm boring 🤣
Excellent tutorial, and I love the Tilda fabrics in this particular quilt as you go block.
Thank you so much!
This is beautiful. I really enjoy hand sewing and I’ve been working on a lap quilt. I wish I’d have tried this quilting as you go. I think it’s a lovely idea.
This is so beautiful. One of my favorite quilt designs I've ever seen.
I don't see myself becoming a quilter in the future, but if I decide to try my hand at it one day, this is definitely a pattern I would want to try.
Thank you for video. I have watched this video earlier. Then I remember you showed how to do the Jacob ladder stitch. So, I came to watch again to relearn how to do the stitch. Thank you again.
Glad it was helpful! Happy stitching ❤️
Thank you so much......I have just started my brick quilt by hand ...your tutorials have inspired me so much thank you .......your a star .....and love watching all your vlogs ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you for the video. I've been trying to figure out for years how my grandmother and mother hid the stitches and made such wonderful quilts. Now I know. Thank you.
Fantastic tutorial. Using contrasting thread really helped. Thank you. I do hope to give this a try as I am newly widowed and have much alone time.
We are all with your while you stitch x
Thank you so much for the brilliant tutorial. Your quilt will be lovely when it's finished. Thank you again x
Thank you! 😊
I have done this technique with a hexagon template but I really like the look of the rectangles! Thanks for sharing.😊
I really like this! You've made it look so easy! And, I like the way you go slowly, and explain what you're doing. I didn't feel like you rushed it, like some people. Thanks. 😊
I totally love this idea. Your quilt will be stunning!
Rachel, new subscriber here from Jacksonville, Florida. Thank you so much for such a detailed video for this session of hand sewing. Your work is so lovely and your fabrics are gorgeous - can’t wait to try this!
I use to attend the Quilt Fest in Jacksonville yearly until 4 years ago when I moved out of State.
Omg this is a stunning project and something I'm now going to add to my quilting "must do" products
Cant wait to see the finished quilt 😊
I really like this tutorial….I’m picking out my pieces to start one. Can’t wait to get started.
THESE videos need their own playlist so I can keep track of them
I don’t have a sewing machine and being newly retired this could be something I could do. I have never sown before … so hopefully easy enough to do
Hello Rachel I just had to rewarch your lovely tutorial tonight and I can't wait to get better and be able to have a go. I'm hoping to make a cushion for my eldest sister Sally who is in a nursing home. I love hand embroidery too so I'm hoping to be able to do some on each patch. Thank you for such a lovely clear and easy to follow video. I am really looking forward to seeing more of your videos and I hope you will let us see your quilt as you get along with it. God bless from Vera in Northern Ireland
Nice idea for embroidery and so many possibilities. I am imagining redwork designs at the moment. I'm sure your sister will love whatever you come up with.
Hi Rachel - Thank you for ALL you share so warmly. I’m currently building a quilt as you go brick wall hanging with Halloween rules cross stitched in 12 of the windows and holiday prints in the adjoining 36 windows. I’m using Clover appliqué pins quite successfully. 3/4” long. I’m also mitering the corners thanks to Penelope Chinwag on RUclips. I think you’d like her. Love, 75 yo grandma in Arizona.
I am making a quilt using these Daisy & Grace templates currently. Loving the way it is coming together.
Чудесно ❤ спасибо большое,все понятно!Я люблю шить квилт,это новое для меня,буду пробовать.❤ещё я учу английский и слушать вас мне приятно и полезно ❤будьте здоровы
I would use glue sticks to glue the center and the edges because I would be afraid the fabric would slip with the pins.
Love your tutorial.
Great tutorial! When I handsew, I don't use knots, I don't trust them. Instead, I simply make a stitch twice or three times at the same place, in this case, I would do it under the border, or anywhere it won't be visible. That's how I learnt to do it at sewing school anyway.
Oh this is so cool! I have been planning to make a quilt with my scraps and settled on the brick wall idea because I seems like it would be easiest to make. I have bags of scraps and keep think "I should probably start cutting this weekend" but get overwhelmed and have never started. So I love this idea of hand stitching one square at a time ❤
Amazing! I love the idea of these templates-I've not seen ones like this before! Brickwork is one of my favorite patterns, it looks so fancy and yet simple; the best of both worlds :)
And it doesn't waste alot of fabric!
Your using needle and threads reminds me of my grandma doing her patchwork quilt bed covers. Thanks ❤❤😊😊
Aww thats so nice!
Never seen a brick pattern before, nor thought of it! It's beautiful. The fabrics are beautiful too...makes me want to redecorate my entire bedroom, make quilts, curtains, pillow cases and light shades to match!
The easiest way to tie a knot where you want it, is to use a pin, similar to you using your nail but you can be more accurate with a pin. Put the pin point through the loop and draw the cotton and the pin away from each other, a bit more on one, then the other until you're almost at the exact spot you want your knot, then stick the pin straight down into the fabric, pull the thread to complete the knot around the pin. Pull the pin out of the knot once you're sure it's where you want it.
Ugh I HATE cotton thread. I only buy polyester thread for hand or machine sewing. The only cotton threads I do buy are embroidery flosses, or if I can grab some of the original Sylko mercerised cotton threads, that are still knocking around, despite it no longer being made. I learnt to sew as a child almost 50 years ago, (bloody hell that sounds depressing!) using Sylko cottons and they have a real sturdy feel to the thread between your fingers.
It's like you can feel how equally cylindrical it is throughout the entire length of the reel, and you can feel it's perfect roundness. A few years back I researched which is the closest equivalent to Sylko on the market now, and can only imagine I landed on a practical joke website! I bulk bought a box of black and white Coates Moon thread and spent the duration of their life expectancy swearing my head off!
Never again! It's like watching someone doing rustic traditional hand spinning with sheep's wool, where as best as they can they try to get even thickness throughout the yarn. But being handspun, it obviously has bulgy bits every so often, as it's not machine spun to perfection. That's exactly what Coates Moon cotton is like: thin, then thicker, then so thin is barely gripping itself, then a big thick lump that gets jammed in the needle with fibres everywhere. Just awful! Seriously ruined my enjoyment of sewing. I used them up sewing on paper projects for journals, and even those I made sure to glue properly first, cos I wasn't banking on the thread to do anything other than add pattern and texture.
At the risk of sounding like an old fart: (I'm 54!) "They don't make 'em like they used to!" 😂
Thank you for sharing. Don't know that I have the patience, eyesight or elegant fingers to do an entire quilt this way by hand nowadays, although hand sewing adds a certain warmth and charm that machine sewing just can't. But even if I can't make the whole thing by hand, I'm still very interested in this brick design, and I can add the quilting stitches by hand at the end, and whip them together a few a night.
Actually, I'm literally 4 days post hysterectomy, and am not allowed to lift barely a thing for twelve weeks, so you've given me the idea now, to do a few of these brick blocks by hand, to make a bag! I've currently got only enough wadding to make something small like a bag anyway, so that's perfect! 😊
Yay! I knew I wanted to do some sort of sewing, art or craft project to alleviate the post op boredom, but just couldn't find anything that inspired me to start...and now I do! 😁
Thank you! I'm eager to get cutting my pieces from my scrap basket now, I've got some lovely cotton fabric scraps that are too small for most projects, but will be perfect for this! This has made me VERY happy! I've finally chosen my convalescence project! 😘😘😘
Thank you Mr. Yair Pinto. You are appreciated for working so hard foŕ the kingdom of GOD. You are opening the eyes of many of your friends to see how GOD'S lovingkindness is also meant for them. Also thank you for fighting this war, this war is for our safety as well. Honest appreciation from a far away land. Praying daily for Israel .🙏🙏🙏👍
this is not the place for this kind of comment.
That's adorable! I'm seriously thinking of trying this as a crazy quilt. (Mostly because I can't hand sew a straight or even line for love or money. Lol) I mostly do beadwork and crochet but am always looking for low key/low stress ways to add to my skill set. Thanks for introducing me to this! Peace and Grooviness!
This is beautiful! I could do this while watching TV at night with hubs. Always looking for needlework for TV time. Ty for taking the time to teach this lovely project! 😃🤩
You are so welcome! This is the perfect tv stitching project! Happy stitching! 🧵❤️
Love your quilting, I'm loving your work. Thank you for your wonderful video s
I have done this kind of quilting for many years except that I do the corners first by folding just like you do the sides but the way I do it you end up with a 45 degree angle on the corner folds and I seem to prefer that look as to the straight 90 degree angle at the corner. It's just as easy as the way you do it but it just takes a couple of minutes longer to do but to me it's worth it. You do some very beautiful work as. I have taught sewing for many years and have had many students that just seem to never get the knack of doing it. Thank you for having a channel that can show people how without going to pay a teacher for lessons and just can't get the knack of sewing.❤
Thank you Brenda, yeah I keep meaning to try the mitred corners but I've done so many with the square corners that I don't want them to look different so maybe if I do another project with these rectangles I'll do them then.
Thank you for watching and commenting xx
Very nice. Thank you for the darker thread and close ups. Wonderful work
I have a bunch of soft-colored fabrics from Moda, and I think this would be a pretty way to make a quilt without much contrast but still create visual interest. Thanks for a great tutorial.🎉
I am going to try this! Thank You, So excited to get started.
Happy stitching ❤️
FYI: I do what Kate at the Last Homely House dies when hand quilting abd run my theead across beeswax to keep it strong, it will not split and will not break as easily. Thanks for this tutorial. ❤
That's how you strengthen cotton thread. If you use a polyester thread wax shouldn't be necessary. I don't use polyester as I have seen when you use 100% cotton fabric, polyester thread is stronger than the weave of the cotton fabric. That can cause the cotton fabrics to split and tear. Many years of washing and wear before that happens. It depends if you expect your quilts to be heirlooms.
@@TraceyWarneke Im pretty sure she is just adding to the conversation, the different threads were already said. It's actually a tip I forgot and bought polyester after watching this the first time, and now kicking myself because I have the same colour cotton and beeswax here.
fantastic video. enjoyed watching/listening in the background while I am doing boring data entry.
Glad to have made a mundane task a little more exciting. Thank you for watching x
Hi Rachel! I'm so excited after buying from Missouri Quilt (with your code)! You've inspired me to start my own project. This is perfect for me and with all the great fabric I have, I'll have so much fun putting all the patterns and colors together. I bought a cream jelly roll for the border color. I thought that might work well. So, thank you so much for creating this video! I really needed something to soothe my anxiety and some therapeutic busy-work to fill my spare time. Thank you from Savannah, Georgia - USA❤
Que bonito!!! Las telas preciosas , y a mano de principio a fin !!! Gracias por compartir ☺️
ive learned so much from you (watched this about four or five times haha) and I have cut out a few bricks ready to get going....
About the knot, I pass the needle three or four times through the first knot rather than tying twice....something my Oma showed me years ago
Oh, my gosh, I’m smitten! I can’t wait to make it!
Happy stitching 💖
very pretty fabric
I have always wanted to try quilting but I have limited space for laying out big projects. This is a perfect technique for me to try and make and attach one block at a time. Also, I have never been good at sewing even though I do other kinds of needlework, but your tutorial is so clear and simple that I am sure it won’t take me long to get a handle on it. I’m so excited to finally be able to quilt! And the brick layout is so beautiful!! Thanks so much for this video!!❤❤❤
This is such a great project if you are low on space. Like you say, you can just join a few at a time! I hope you enjoy this project, but if you are unsure on anything, just message me on Instagram xx
Such a lovely technique and your instructions are great!
I’ve done a king size grandmother’s garden all by hand. The hexagons were 3/4 inch. It took me a decade to finish. Obviously, I did not work on it everyday. This pattern will not take as long, but once finished it would be a nice heirloom to hand down. I love your pattern pieces.
wow i bet that quilt is amazing
Great tutorial and I love the look of all of it. Thanks so much for sharing of your time and talents.
Thank you Rachel, your tutorial was really easy to follow and your voice is so calming.
Im new to quilting and have watched 4-5 tutorials to see which i would prefer and the English Paper Quilting is great. You have a new follower because you explain each section so easily. Im just trying out small weight bags which are done by a lady called Cappi in the USA just to see how it goes before i spend too much. Im hoping to gather enough fabric to make your quilt ,cant wait an thanks again 😊
I think is lovely and I love hand sewing ~ Thank you.
You are an AMAZING teacher. I absolutely love this tutorial and will be creating a quilt just as you’ve taught me!!! THANK YOU ❤ THANK YOU! I have needed just this type of direction as I have way to make a quilt by hand. But felt a little overwhelmed. You have made me emboldened!! Great job.
Thank you, Rachel.....I am starting on mine today..love it!!
I've never quilted before but I love this design, the hand-stitching and color palette. I think I'm gonna go for it and make one! Love this.
Go for it!.. you will have such good fun and it's a really good starting block - maybe you'll get hooked in quilting!
Wow that is going to turn out beautiful!! Thank you for teaching us. I can’t wait to try it out for my next project!!
Thank you so much this is so perfect for me as I don't have a sewing machine. I love it❤
Perfect project!
This is how I've been looking to make patchwork, thanks
You're welcome, happy stitching xx
I love your choices of color and prints ! ❤
I enjoy watching this video I learned something new thank you.😊
I love all things hand sewn and this was a great project and tutorial. I just ordered the templates and can't wait to get started. This was a great tutorial and it was nice that you used dark thread so we could see your work.
Wow!!! What a marvelous technique. I can’t wait to try this. I’v long wanted a hand sewing project for when I don’t want to be stuck at the machine.
It's such a relaxing project aswell! X
Outstanding demonstration of QAYG. I enjoy and learn so much from your videos.
Thank you x
Hi Rachel, Nice instructional tutorial very good. My templates arrived today, excited to get some pieces cut out and start. Thank you for the good instruction.
Glad it was helpful! Happy stitching
An amazing take along quilt
