  • Toyota Tacoma rust bucket frame patch with little how to get by scenario with just a harbor freight cheapo welder. I used a plasma cutter to cut the steal but can be done with side grinder or jig saw with metal blade if need be. always prep your metal best you can, I used a wire wheel and 36 grit flap wheel on the grinder. Once completed I did spray the patched areas with a undercoat to help protect the new metal from rusting.

    You have to spray them twice a year with oil if you live in the salt states ! One gallon of 30w bar and chain oil mixed with a tube of Lucas red tacky grease heated up together in a crockpot and spray it on hot !

      Yeah these toyotas are terrible for rusting by themselves. They all have junk frames.

    I have a tundra in similar condition, I'd like to take it down to the frame at some point, thing is other manufacturers have the same rust issues, the only reason they're not known for it is because you cant keep them running long enough for the frame to rust this bad.
    Meanwhile these Toyotas 335k miles with just gas and an occasional oil change, everything still works as intended just the frame rusted, other similar vehicles with half the miles rockers rotten half the swiches don't work engine misfires and transmission dont shift,

      @carolyncarpenter9682 yeah I don't understand why these trucks and jeeps rust out so bad. I love my s10's and I've had dozens in my days, none have ever had frame rust issues even from semi salted road areas. Can't speak much on ford or dodge but I've never really seen much on those. Always on tacomas and jeep wranglers

    Any idea on the resale value of a 2007 Taco with rusty frame and only 80k miles?

    • @blantondynamics
      @blantondynamics  Год назад +2

      Honestly if it's frame rust, either find a used frame to swap or see if you can get a new one for a fair price. With those miles and in good shape with no rust, I'd estimate between $8000 to $13000. Depends on a few things but if the frame is rusted you'll be lucky to get 4-5k.

      @@blantondynamics Thanks. It's definitely not as bad as the video truck frame, but a Toyota tech told me he saw a crack, so I'll take his word. After a brake line rusted and failed while driving, and the gas tank strap failed while driving, it seems my Taco is out to kill me, so it's end of the line. Guess I'll take what I can get.

    I get it takes time and money to fix things right but it hurts to watch anyone not cut out bad rusty steel, not clean the inside, not needle scale it, or con ert the rust. I get it and I'm not judging but I couldn't do this. My ocd wouldn't let me.

    • @blantondynamics
      @blantondynamics  7 месяцев назад +1

      I completely understand but by the time I did all that, it would cost the same to buy and swap a new frame. It's never a win win with these types or projects because it normally boils down to customers budget. I'm NOT a "the customers always right" kind of person but I do try to work with them best I can to get the longest life out of something with their budget. And yes my ocd gets me from time to time on these projects and I have to fight it and ignore it best I can.

    I have a 95 Tacoma frame is patched on drivers side I didnt know models past mine had rust issues. I'd still take my 95 than a 2024. Mine has the 3.4 V6 with 5 speed original engine has 293 thousand miles one clutch engine has plenty of power no leaks does not use oil 2024 what 5 thousand miles engine trashed

      @@augustusgloop9330 it is so sad to lose the first gen tacos with the 3.4l, my 4runner has over 600 000 kms and cannot use a litre of oil between changes! I would also love a 2nd gen taco, but I am too nervous. Maybe the 2011s will be affordable by the time my 4runner gives up the ghost?

    Not just up to 06, but there's issues up to the 2017 frames now. They are all junk recycled steel, I can't believe how bad they get. It's not just Toyota, my buddies Dodge had a rotted oil pan on his 3 year old truck!! Sorry to say, your repair here did not do much, it needs far more work than this...

    • @blantondynamics
      @blantondynamics  Год назад +1

      That's crazy they are still having rust issues up to 2017. Manufacturers just don't care it seems. And a rusted oil pan that's only 3 years old definitely isn't good. I'd be looking into an aluminum pan if that's the case.

    I’ve done a few frame repairs for customers, but when someone won’t fix it right I refuse. My family shares the road with those vehicles and nobody should be put in jeopardy because of another’s poor decision. You owe it to yourself and everyone else to do the right thing. It’s vehicles and decisions like these that leave others injured or worse. This isn’t helping the customer or the public, you looked out for your wallet and nobody’s safety. Why put your name on toilet like that, to top it off post a video of it. There’s no defending what you’re doing here
