    My 2001 Tacoma had a recall on its frame years ago. When I got the notice, I went out to inspect it myself. I could easily crunch up half the frame with my fingers. It was a miracle the frame didn’t ever buckle on me.

    I've been driving trucks and autos for nearly sixty years and have had a lot of people work on my vehicles (including myself). There's one local guy I would trust with most issues but I doubt I'd let even him work on my Toyota. When I want quality work done I take it to a Toyota dealership. It costs a little more but I've only had one issue with a Toyota tech. A young pup tried to tell me I needed a part replaced and I knew otherwise and a bunch of miles later I know I was right. Don't take everything they tell you for granted, people are people, but when I want an expert diagnosis or repair it's off to Lemieux Toyota I go.
    The entire frame scenario including the way Toyota handled it was in my opinion a credit to Toyota. They're not the idiots who refuse to find an alternative to salting roads and they coughed up a lot of money to put solid frames under vehicles that would otherwise been short lived. Have not seen Ford or Chev do that and believe me their frames rust away as well.

    How long did it actually take you to complete the repair? my 09 TRD sport bdl cab long bed was dropped off on Monday morning and I was called on Wednesday morning telling me it was ready. Now I have been turning wrenches for over 30 years, so I know that's a lot of work. I'm not sure if they had more than one guy on the job or not, I picked it up on Thursday morning and haven't had any issues. To be honest I wasn't crazy about the idea of my truck being taken apart and put back together without doing it myself. Although I got a free brake flush and cooling system service because they replaced the coolant, with just over 210,000 miles it was overdue for both. My invoice was just over 10K, while I consider my Taco to be worth much more than that I'm not sure what actual book value is on it with the miles, however I wouldn't trade it for three times that.

      Is it a toyota recall? why did you pay for the replacement of the frame?

    • @mrgearheadfromhell
      @mrgearheadfromhell 6 лет назад +1

      I didn't pay for the frame to be replaced, the invoice had just over 10K was what Toyota was paying the dealership for performing the repair. I did pay for both rear shocks that were broke and the rear brake hoses. I paid dealer cost for the parts with no labor for installation. My truck did have over 200K miles, and I was getting a new frame. You don't bother with the little issues; My bill was like $270 ? $50 for each rear Bilstein and whatever for the brake hoses; Keeps me from dealing with them for a few years.
      I put 500 miles on their 2018 Tacoma they put me in with like 935 miles on, I turned it in over 1400. I did get a seat cover from work to put in it, respected their wishes and did not smoke in the vehicle.
      Although from that experience I can tell you, if you look at Tacoma's, make sure it's a V6. That truck got great mileage, didn't have any power. If your looking for economy, it's the cat's pajama's.
      I had to replace the muffler because it was rusted out, no big deal, I got a "Banks" cat back system. If you own this type of truck, this is the exhaust system you want. 3" stainless, mandrel bent. Muffler increases flow 211% 4" chrome or black tip. Uses factory hangers. And well worth every penny, got one on my junk right now. I have the TRD cold air intake with the throttle body spacer thing from whoever. So far I have hit 450 miles to a tank, I just gotta keep my foot out of it. LOL...
      These trucks are GOLD, if you can get one, get two, I rolled over 219,000 miles yesterday; While that's just a number, I'm looking forward to 233,129. That will be the point where I have put 200K on my Taco, I have over 150K on the tires; I'm probably going to get a new set when they hit 200K just because.
