  • Today were shooting Subsonic CCI CLEAN ammunition. This is a 40gn Polymer coated lead bullet ( not sure why that's "clean" ) but it's the last of the Subsonic 1070fps out of CCIs line of .22lr ammunition. Last week I shot the other 4 so if you haven't seen that video here is the link. • CCI Green Tag, Pistol ...

    I appreciate your honesty. Your rifle hates this stuff, for sure. The guys saying thanks for confirming the ammo is crap, are ignorant. This is how your rifle shoots this particular ammo. It only confirms that it’s garbage in YOUR rifle. In someone else’s rifle, it may shoot 1/2” groups. That’s why we always test multitudes of different ammo in our rifles. That’s what this video really confirms. Not every rifle is the same, even if they have consecutive serial numbers. I’m giving this a thumbs up because you not only show what works in your rifle, you also show what doesn’t work. Major props

    I have used CCI ammo of all sorts in my 22 pistols. I liked it and I felt it shot well. It was always reliable and that counts for something. But, I have not had equal satisfaction with it in my rifles. From a "having fun on the range plinking day' standpoint uit was fine and the price was pretty good. From a holding 1/2 inch at 50 yards, I just didn't have a lot of success. You never know what is going to work until you try. My everyday shooter is a 10/22 with a Victor stock, KIdd trigger and bolt and a KSA microgroove barrel that likes Eley Force the best of EVERYTHING else I have tried and I tried a lot. Half the fun is trying everything you can! Good video as always! Thanks!!

    While my CZ is very accurate with MOST brands it still can be 'picky' I shot some SK high speed Match and got bad results while the SKLRM and Lapua Long Range will shoot sub moa at 75 and under and 1 1/2 moa out to 250, Other brands that are on the naughty list are Eley Tenex, Match, and CCI. Keep your vids coming. Thanks

      Yeah it’s hard when the cost of the videos and to maintain a channel is very high. Then you get manufactures asking you to promote there products, and the money is greatly needed, so some channels take it and say things that are not necessarily true so they can keep getting products and possibly money from the manufacturer. Better off telling the truth, it always comes out in the end and the trust is broken then so is the channel.

    I shot CCI Clean in my 455, and while its performance was not stellar, it wasn't as bad as what we see here. I didn't get around to trying it in my newer 457 MTR, and it looks like I don't need to. The MTR chamber seats the bullet into the lands, and you can see these impressions on the bullet if you eject a chambered round. My guess is that the polymer coating doesn't play well with a match chamber, and this impression of the lands into the bullet is probably why it was difficult to close the bolt.

    • @RimfireSS
      @RimfireSS  6 месяцев назад +4

      That’s definitely the issue. That bolt closed harder than anything I’ve ever shot. I actually put some beeswax on this ammo today and shot it again for shits and giggles. All I got was giggles, while the bolt closed a lot easier the groups still sucked.

    • @jimmybb6826
      @jimmybb6826 6 месяцев назад +3

      Idea: chamber, eject, and examine a lead bullet. Do the same for a Clean bullet and note if they are different. I'll bet there is little or no impression on the polymer bullet, which is necessary for complete seating in the match chamber. You might check with CCI to see if the Clean bullet is even safe to shoot in a match chamber. They already warn about their Stingers for another reason. The case is too long to chamber; and if you are able to close the bolt on one, you definitely don't want to shoot it. @@RimfireSS

    Usually your mini mags and a few others shoot pretty consistently, in run of the mill 22. So CCI has been known for being decent or the best of the cheaper ammo. A lot of people like the mini mag because you don't get the lead fouling. I always just shot what they had at the store if they didn't have what I prefer but I just plink so....I'm not measuring groups. I hear that the new Remington Golden bullet bulk ammo is shooting well (after bankruptcy)(not match ammo) so??? Not sure but maybe they're trying to make a comeback that would be nice.

    Load a round. If it closes hard extract it and see if the driving band has been engraved by the rifling at the front. I'll bet you will find that it is. My 452 FS engraves CCXI Subsonic and Velocitor bullets. Not conducive to pleasurable shooting. Work fine in my other rifles though.

    Dunno why they performed so poorly out of your rifle but using both my 10/22 with a Kidd 16.5" light barrel and my Ruger American rimfire with the OEM barrel they consistently will group 1/2" @ 45 yards ( as far back as I can be in my backyard). My preferred subsonic .22 lr round! Also didn't experience any problem chambering a round with the RAR (bolt). JMHE.

    I don't know about this rimfire ammo. But polymer coated pistol bullets are typically shot un-lubricated. They're treated much like jacketed but the plastic has much less friction than copper or bare lead. Some do remove lead and carbon from the bore. Maybe they'll be good for that? Shoot a magazine full at the end of a range session and leave the bore super clean?

    Clean, you better clean your barrel and get that stuff out of it. Have you shot Remington subsonic? I might have missed that video I have a brick I bought somewhere in fifty round boxes I have only seen the hundred packs recently. Out of curiosity I shot some one day in a 513 Matchmaster and it did really well. I had a little bit of the Remington to shoot around my garden since it wasn't too noisy they called it the backyard 22 round. Well, at close range it will penetrate two pieces of 3/4 plywood not exactly back yard ammo. When CCI Quiets came out that became my garden ammunition through a suppressor it truly is quiet and still packs a punch especially the fragmenting variety. I always thought the Rem Sub stuff was bottom of the barrel but CCI Clean clearly is.
