“And then i would escape i’ll never have to a see another disappointed face no one to please every now and then it fells like in all of the universe there is nobody for me” this verse hit me like an arrow
"I told myself I wouldn't care, no I wouldn't care But when she said she'd come 'round I combed my hair, yes I checked my hair" Expectation is taking its toll
Unfortunately, I think Kevin said he was over what he was doing here and he actually wanted this era to sound like what he's doing now, but he just didn't know how to do it yet.
The fact his new music keeps evolving to something more synth/pop like it makes you appreciate this music more. It's so raw, psychedelic, isolated. It's good he moved on cause he must have been depressed writing this music with a failing family and love life, and little success

Rexxae I think he means that he's too young to be depressed, he should be having a wonderful early adult life. you know? I agree, it's sad when people don't/can't enjoy life that is supposed to be the most fun.
When I turned 22 age went through a very difficult stage, I sank into drugs and depression, the worst thing is that I did not tell anyone, I remember that this song always made me smile and realize that one day I would get out of shit in the that I had gotten myself into, today I am about to turn 24 age and without a doubt that stage helped me a lot to know myself and know how far the internal pain can go.

I remember buying innerspeaker after my friend left for Montreal to be chef cook at some high class restaurant. Haven't seen him in a good 8 years now but remember getting really high and listening to this with him. He loved tame impala. Anyways, I went home and played the innerspeaker album in my bedroom and loved it so much I went back to the music store to buy all the tame impala albums.
I think that Tame Impala just became my life. This keeps happening, I have stopped being able to simply listen to music, I have to obsess over one artist for ages before I find another, before this was Nick Drake and before him it was Drive-by-Truckers...

Musician Fun Fact: I like that the song is called "Expectation". The solo guitar at the beginning baits us into thinking the song is going to be in 4/4 (Common Time), but the moment the band joins in, we realize that the song is actually in 3/4. The title is perfect for the song because my expectation of the time signature was false from the start. I mean, maybe the beginning IS in 3/4 with the guitar playing a dotted quarter rhythm and we don't exactly know it yet because the drums aren't there immediately to give us a strong sense of tempo, but I just personally love the effect that this causes. (Also, this is my first time listening to a full album of Tame Impala.)

When Innerspeaker came out back in 2010, It was my first year at college. I would cycle every day listening to this album. Then it came Lonerism, same feeling (addicted to the album, listening non-stop). When they released the other albums, it was not the same, I was already into other stuff. Now, this weekend, after years far from Tame Impala's universe, I was on a car trip, driving alone, and I put both CDs on (Innerspeaker and Lonerism). All those feelings I had a decade ago started rushing in. I remember how I felt when I couldn't listen to anything else but Innerspeaker. I was 18 years old, I was kind of discovering who I am (was). The sounds and lyrics of this album resonated with me but back then I couldn't identify this impact. I was an introverted guy ("there's a party in my head and no one is invited")...I had friends and social life, but still I was an introvert. Years have passed, experiences, mushrooms, therapy. Now it's clear how this album somehow was one of the first steps of all of this process; it helped me to pull me into this inner world (my mind, my feelings, my identity) and made me try to access it and express it, and be more open. Anyway, it was an amazing experience to listen to this album again, with the same enthusiasm when I first listened to it. This album is different from anything else. This song is just flat out amazing in all ways, I can’t even find the correct words to explain exactly how this record makes me feel. I heard it for the first time about 6 years ago after listening to Currents which introduced me to Tame Impala. I was floored and still am 6 years later
My ex girl friend used to like tame impala, I discovered thanks to her this band and I love it for years Now we don’t share together our passion for Kevin Parker anymore, that’s life
In 2010, I was so depressed because of being broken hearted and unemployee. This is the first song by Tame impala that crossed my path. After that I realised I had listened to "Lucidity", "Solitude is Bliss" and "Alter Ego", so I finally sticked to the band 'til nowadays I had no idea how big they would become, and how much I would love them. Currently, I sort of miss those neo psychedelia tunes, but I love the soft rock and synth pop era as well. "Instant Destiny", "Tomorrow's Dust" and "Breath Deeper" are superb tunes. However, this song will always occupy a VIP spot in my heart.
Why does everybody in here hate on currents? I listen to all tame impala yes i probably like the older stuff a little better but the new stuffs not bad its just new, different.
Because most of their fans (including me) are fans of original 60s psychedelic rock, so when currents came out as a synth pop album, those fans weren't best pleased
+Waldo Wikkid I also can't understand it - case in point, look at Beck's progression from Mellow Gold, Odelay, Sea CHange, and Morning Phase - all a different sound but equally as good. The sign of a great artist is to produce something entirely different sounding. Hell even look at Radiohead as a prime example.
I am torn between liking Currents and disliking it. I really enjoy a couple of songs, and the synth stuff is pretty cool, but I came to love Take Impala as a psychedelic rock band.
To all those saying you do or dont need drugs to fully experience tame impala or music in general. Tame impalas music to me is llike a drug in its own right and I guess when being under an influence does multiply that goosebump/butterflies feeling tenfold. Oh god I just love this band every time I listen it gets better
Brilliant song. Also , big credit to the editors/creators of this video. How they made it all so fluent and synchronised ... Must have taken a fair amount of time and precision to film etc. Also really enjoy the (time change) between 6/4 and the slow 6/8 "meanwhileeeee" part . Très bien Tame Impala
What's giving away the rhythmic pulse of 6/8 to you there? I can hear the 6/4 pulse throughout the song easily, but I'm not quite sure what is changing in that section to give it a 6/8 feel.
innerspeaker is an album that will never get old for me. the cosmic walls of sound that this album produces is mind bogglingly insane. you can get completely lost in this albums sound for days or weeks, in my case years. the writing is otherworldly, not many artist nowadays will ever top this level of writing. and i dont think kevin will ever top this era of his sound. lonerism is still fucking amazing and is one of my favorite albums of all time, but one problem i have with currents and the slow rush is it drags on. i like currents dont get me wrong its a very good album but some songs just drag on to much, let it happen for me is too long. eventually is very good but feels longer than even let it happen. the slow rush suffers the same problem but basically on almost every track, still prefer it over currents though. innerspeaker is just an amazing album and in my opinion should represent what we call music, i feel that innerspeaker is unappreciated and i know that a couple hundred thousand tame impala fans can agree with me on this. for me this album is just so blissful and psychedelic to the point that i listen to it everyday, not had a single break since i discovered tame impala in january 2020. I've listened everyday, and id like to keep it that way. every track is unique and has its own flavours. it is not meant to be is a good track to chill to, the hippy chillout smoke weed track of the album if you will. the lead guitar and that amazing bass at the beginning that comes after that wind buzz sound effect thing will never get old. its also relatable, all us men and probably teenagers like myself have all experienced what the songs about which is wanting a relationship to work but its not meant to be (hence the song title). desire be desire go is more gritty and hard hitting, and that bridge towards the end is so good its fucked. not sure what desire be desire go is about. alter ego is cosmic and blissful, the catchy drums, the dreamy guitar chords and that psychedelic synth guitar sound that comes in a bit after the drums kick in. the writing is also unbelievable and pretty relatable to me and many other people. lucidity has a guitar riff that ive heard from other artists before, dont know who but its nostalgic and i love it, and that distorted guitar solo at the end is just 🤌. why wont you make up your mind has yet another synth guitar sound that i fucking adore and when i listen to the song i just think of driving through a beautiful mountain range, and i think of it everytime. and i picture the scottish highlands everytime aswell its never anywhere else, guess my brain just thinks the scenery works well with the sound which it definitely does. solitude is bliss is a great song to bop your head too. the higher pitch, bliss inducing guitar chords and those simple but crazy drums, the songs just very well put together. jeremys storms opening is amazing but the song drags a bit, still very good though. and then we come to this gem, expectation is very relatable and just paints a very solid picture of humanity, we do our hair, our makeup, our ties, clean our shoes to perfection, etc. to look good for other people, people think that theres an expectation to look good for every man you meet, every girl you meet etc. and it happens to everyone when you don't have to try be someone else or try look as sexy as possible for a love interest, just be yourself snd i think when it comes to it we always lose a bit of ourself each time we do it, its normal but it paints a picture to be honest. but what i care about the most is the sound. the simple drums and chords work so well and kevin voice as always is amazing on this track and although it isn't currently my favourite song right now (it right now being apocalypse dreams on lonerism), its definitely my favourite on this album and definitely a top 5 of all time. runaway houses city clouds is fucking amazing and although its long, it does not drag. the lead guitar is so catchy and you cant not bop your head to it. the second half when the sound of the song completely changes will never get old and keeps the song from dragging. i dont really mind is definitely my least favourite and although its still decent, i think runaway houses should have been the final track. this album is just insane, theres nothing bad about. and for me its the definitive LP. if your new to innerspeaker or just kevins work in general i definitely recommend lying down and getting comfortable, and just listening to this album in full the full 50> minutes. it will be a great experience trust me.

Everything about this reminds me of Pink Floyd's "See Emily Play": the jamming outdoors, the beat, the vocals. I love how Tame Impala hearkens back to its psychedelic influence but puts a totally modern twist on them.
I love the way the camera pans around once the rest of the band begins to play. Reminds me of a scene from fantastic mr fox Also, if you are reading this, Kevin I want to say I am truly and deeply inspired by your talent.

This song is just flat out amazing in all ways, I can’t even find the correct words to explain exactly how this record makes me feel. I heard it for the first time about 6 years ago after listening to Currents which introduced me to Tame Impala. I was floored and still am 6 years later
I love the production on this track. The Bass and the Snare sound incredible
My ex girl friend used to like tame impala,
I discovered thanks to her this band and I love it for years
Now we don’t share together our passion for Kevin Parker anymore, that’s life
way ahead of its time
It still is
Actually this is more like a retro style tbh.
@@valberm true but I think there’s no better example of making an old sound sound new
When I discovered RUclips, I didn't work for five days. I did nothing. I watched Tame Impala sing Expectation about a thousand times.
Hello dear, it’s nice meeting you on here.
I love this song the best of Kevin's creations and eveytime I listen to it I can't stop imagining how it would sound while tripping
Start of this song rocks you softly like a lullaby
one of the best psychedelic rock clips I've ever watched
yeah, I hear that "real" love is comforting and calm and steady...happy, even.
❤
Hello dear, it’s nice meeting you on here
More people need to hear this song.
9 years ago .. feels like yesterday ..
13 years....
@@Amineplaa yeah...
I love Tame Impala the music is brilliant and psychedelic and full of earthy positive energy i totally vibe out to it
Most Underrated song on their most underrated album. Just how I like it
あなたの音楽が大好きです。
even the camera is high
I have told my small children that this is the best song ever made
Cant even describe how this song makes me
Feel ❤️
tame impala still holds the number one most amazing song in the whole wide world in my opinion after 2 years i still love that one song
a decade of this gorgeous album
Can’t believe I used to ignore tame impala’s music back then on Music Choice…( on TV) Kevin was truly ahead of his time
Were you also one of those kids who scrolled through the Music Choice channels when they were bored?
In 2010, I was so depressed because of being broken hearted and unemployee. This is the first song by Tame impala that crossed my path. After that I realised I had listened to "Lucidity", "Solitude is Bliss" and "Alter Ego", so I finally sticked to the band 'til nowadays
I had no idea how big they would become, and how much I would love them.
Currently, I sort of miss those neo psychedelia tunes, but I love the soft rock and synth pop era as well. "Instant Destiny", "Tomorrow's Dust" and "Breath Deeper" are superb tunes.
However, this song will always occupy a VIP spot in my heart.
Happy 11 years 💜💜
1 of the best, most soothing and catchy tracks ever!! TI are the greatest! I wanna see them collab with Thundercat or Little Dragon
Thundercat came trues lets go
I wish he had written more stuff similar to this, but other people seem to like his electronic stuff though.
FINALLY we can see this in the US again.
Had to watch this after the snl performance drops. This is what really got me originally. thanks Kevin and company sincerely and wholly
In all of the universe there is nobody for me. The song I relate the most in my life.
I dont listen to music, I listen to tame impala.

Absolutely love all their songs but this one's an amazing mind trip. .ughhhh❤❤❤❤
such a good mind trip 😊 a beautiful musical spiral
Every now and then it feels like in all of the universe, There is nobody for me
Expectation!!!!!!!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hey you might like a band a called The Doublejumps if you like Tame Impala
Why does everybody in here hate on currents? I listen to all tame impala yes i probably like the older stuff a little better but the new stuffs not bad its just new, different.
Because most of their fans (including me) are fans of original 60s psychedelic rock, so when currents came out as a synth pop album, those fans weren't best pleased
+Euan E I'm a fan of both genres so luckily I like Currents as well as their other 2 albums. Maybe it's because I'm younger I like their new sound.
Tannin Kline i feel similarly
To all those saying you do or dont need drugs to fully experience tame impala or music in general. Tame impalas music to me is llike a drug in its own right and I guess when being under an influence does multiply that goosebump/butterflies feeling tenfold. Oh god I just love this band every time I listen it gets better
I remember hearing this for the first time and thinking to myself I finally found a band I can listen to forever
Fire flamesssssssss 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Agreed🤝
Thanks for sharing!
it’s super nostalgic for me growing up with my dad listening to this album all the time, it makes the album even better.
@@shd9999 id love to have that nostalgia but i only discovered tame impala when the slow rush came out i wont lie
Criticizing tame impalas songs for being too long, by writing the longest wall of text I have ever seen on youtube.
I dont disagree w/ you but it was just funny to read.
Essa musica traz uma paz de espirito que nao sei explicar!! Desde que escutei a primeira vez,
foi amor a primeira vista.
Minha parte preferida é o instrumental do refrao!

@@huntrrams best song ever recorded forget about just Tame Impalas best
For psychedelic, it's Nothing That Has Happened So Far Has Been Anything We Could Control, but this is one of Kevin's best song full stop
Kevin please a little more of this album in the future of tame impala.
Everything about this reminds me of Pink Floyd's "See Emily Play": the jamming outdoors, the beat, the vocals. I love how Tame Impala hearkens back to its psychedelic influence but puts a totally modern twist on them.
This is what it feels like to dance with the Gods...

Every tame album is like a chapter of my life 😥❤⭐
first tame impala song i ever heard. time flies
I love the way the camera pans around once the rest of the band begins to play. Reminds me of a scene from fantastic mr fox Also, if you are reading this, Kevin I want to say I am truly and deeply inspired by your talent.
He could release this right fu*kin now and its still as amazing
Edit: it was truly beyond the years
I love tame impala so so much thank you for bringing psychedelia back!!! I only just have discovered you and i love it!! I can buy a psychedelic album released in 2021 thanks to you.
I never get tired of listening to this song. 👍🏾 great job TAME IMPALA" 👌

tame impala please stay underground forever.
+gaby garcia so far so good. they've gotten much more recognition, but our secret isn't out just yet.
When I saw "cause im a man" on tv, I freak out:(
+gaby garcia failed. latest album not even close to his other two :(((( always happens though of course, you like a band for what they sound like, they rarely move into a better direction. happens so rarely. ho well.
think of other bands you loved that made an album better than the previous stuff that got you into them - very few unfortunately for me :(
Lmao buddy I'm not sure you know what underground is
In all of the universe, there is nobody for meeeee! FELT THAT.
Genioooooooooooooooos
Dont worry..... you’re not the only one listening to this masterpiece in September 2021
I love doing reality checks whilst listening to Tame Impala. I think it's because they sound so dreamlike.
Fluctuations are aching my soul
Expectation is taking it's toll...
Everything you ever told me could have been a lie, we may never have been in love 💔
This when back when Kevin was still my little secret 🥲 I miss these times
Lol i remember finding tame Impala when I was 18 in 2015 tripping off acid for the first time and drinking/ skating everyday. Man was shit different but no matter how many years pass this music gets me through it. No matter what happens I have this music with a lot of memories attached good and bad. What a good man
I love the hook in this song. Expectation and Lucidity are probably my favorites on this album.
