When Lowell passed I cried every day for a year. He was a friend of mine and also my Musical hero. My best friend Debbie and I were both blessed to know Lowell and Little Feat in the 70's till the present. I've seen only AMAZING shows for the past 50 years. Oh man, what a band! Lowell has been so dearly missed for all of these 45 years, but I was fortunate to see him and Feats in 1977 at the Forum in L.A. Quite the tribute to the Fat Man in the Bathtub/Rock 'n' Roll Doctor! RIP, Lowell, Richie, Paul, and Nicolette,,,,
One of the best and most fun concerts I ever had the pleasure to play. Unfortunately, Richie Hayward, may he RIP, had broken his leg just before this show, so I had to learn 40 songs for 8 artists in 7 days! My brain was short-circuiting!
Well Rick, sometimes the real pro's just have to, as you Americans say, step up to the plate and hit that thing. But surely it wasn't that hard for a true pro like you? Or was it the pressure of the event? Terrific work, anyway!
Paul Martin Thanks, Paul. The pressure was learning all those songs for all the artists in about a week, and of course, the Little Feat songs were the most difficult but we spent the least amount of time on them! Never the less, it was a truly wonderful experience.

I can't take a thing away from Lowell George. He made Little Feat into the top U.S. act of the 1970s. I saw them with Bonnie Raitt in 1972, and there was no bigger influence on me musically through the 70s. saw little feat every time they came to d.c. missed lowel's last show for my bestie's pre-wedding vacation at va beach.3 pm layin on the beach hearing em say "in memory of lowell george"damn shit!!!
There's a clip of an interview with Bill Payne on RUclips in which he talks about Lowell George. The band was so talented - they were potentially headed for far greater success than they achieved, but Lowell's addictions got in the way. In Bill's words, it would be "two steps forward, five steps back". Lowell just couldn't get his conquer his demons and sabotaged the band's progress. When Lowell died, Bill's first reaction was anger. Then he thought to ask the band's management if Lowell had any insurance so that his family could be provided for. There was nothing. Bill organized this tribute concert, with all the proceeds going to Lowell's wife and 3 children. Bill spoke of meeting John Belushi after playing a concert after Lowell's death. Belushi said he wanted play Lowell in a movie. Which struck Bill as a great bit of casting - if only in retrospect, as Belushi and Lowell had the same taste in drugs. They both liked speedballs - cocaine and heroin taken together - and both died as a result.
@@TheRealForrestGeorge not much of a resemblance to me and as far as talent - there's very few before during or after that could touch your Pops. He was truly a musician's musician - the complete package. And his uncanny ability to write songs that were glimpses into his personality and without his "comic book" humor, Feat wouldn't have been so damn funny and interesting lyrically.
Hi Forrest ! This is tpace from Ontario, Canada we met at Cal Expo Dead in '91 or '92? Your Dad is my hero and your pretty fly yo' damn self :D Iko Iko Naked brother.
hi Forrest - blessings to you and your family if you are still on this RUclips thread. I had the total honor and privilge as well of being at that show, having see your dad with valerie carter and billy at the roxy a year or so before jamming. He was simply magic in his creativity and beauty, forever a force for so many. Hope you are doing well and sending love your way.
The only thing missing here is the rest of the show. That may seem like an obvious comment, but it's a shame that this show isn't available in it's entirety. Who is the guitar player for Emmy Lou Harris? And who is the woman wearing the flowing white outfit? The others are easy to identify, Bonnie, Linda, Nicolette... What a treat to see and hear this show all these years later! Thanks.
Just stumbled on to this. Feat were (are) amazing in all their incarnations. Lowell, the whole band, wrote the funkiest grooves; none like 'em...maybe Dead in their inimitable way...
impressive music. Ronstadt brought this show together -to honor Lowell George and raise funds for his family. She may have been a superstar to some but for others just a remarkable jamming voice on the scene. Cool!
Robert Willetts no, he wasn’t. He did not a money set aside for his family. He wasted a lot his money on drugs and alcohol. He did not have any money set aside or any type of life insurance policy. It wasn’t Linda Ronstadt who organized this either. Bill Payne put this thing together
+ Robert Willetts. I have no real way of knowing, but I think that Lowell was not a commercial success. I'm not aware of a single song that could or would be played on the radio back then ; a determening factor. Also, his habits were very expensive.I had the impression that his family was well off money wise but, he and his family may have been the black sheep. That is a sad thought is it not? ( I have no inside information, so any of this may not be true). Another situation similar to this was with Warren Zevon. Crystal Zevon said that Jackson was so helpful, as always, paying for his godchild's music lessons. Sorry, right now I cannot remember her name. Today, she is a musician in her own right. This would have been years before Warren died in 2003. Well, not are about that, but he did pay for lessons.
@@stargazer6753 Used to hear them regularly on the radio in Sydney, Australia (God bless Double J as it was back then). They certainly weren't a headline act back in the day, as good as they undoubtedly were. I don't think any band got rich touring in the 70s, regardless of how hard they worked.
Ah, 1979 when bras were optional. Btw about a third of this band lineup (special occasion lineup) I would see in A.A. meetings in the eighties in West Hollywood.
Incredible music, they're all there and all together. What is the title of the first song performed by Nicolette Larson, she delivers a command performance?
This on DVD?God how can it not be..Anyone knows please respond...I wonder how much extra footage could be added...I'm glad Ronstadt did a Zevon tune.Surprised he was not there. This had to be hard to do for so many who were so close to Lowell...Forrest George you had a hell of a father..Bless him and you..
Love Warren. If you look at the last 3 minutes you will see Warren on stage. Other people have mentioned what his part was on different songs I just haven't had time to research. About Linda, I think all live concerts are better than what's on an album or a disc or a tape, any kind of recording. Live is almost always better , and boy did Linda prove it that night. I don't know if this is on a DVD so far. It has been kept a secret for years about who did the taping or who was the recipient of this tape, but now maybe not so much. There now seems to be a name. We'll see. But, what about all the original live performances by all those great writers and performers at the time, I think 1979. Little Feat, Billy Payne, Bonnie Raitte, Jackson Browne ( note the applause ) who was a really close friend ( still promotes his songs)and so many other back up singers and musicians, not to dismiss Linda who was perfection. And don't forget Nicolette Larson and so many others. I forgot to look for Valerie Carter, who also was a close friend of Lowell George. You said how hard this must have been. They were there to party for Lowell George. What more can I say?

Linda’s got the chops!
forrest, I hope Jack Black can play your father some day in a movie. Your father was a pioneer. His voice is irreplaceble
Jack Black may look like Lowell George, however --- his talents are not up to par, in my mind anyway.
@@TheRealForrestGeorge not much of a resemblance to me and as far as talent - there's very few before during or after that could touch your Pops. He was truly a musician's musician - the complete package. And his uncanny ability to write songs that were glimpses into his personality and without his "comic book" humor, Feat wouldn't have been so damn funny and interesting lyrically.
great idea, we should still work on that
Hi Forrest ! This is tpace from Ontario, Canada we met at Cal Expo Dead in '91 or '92? Your Dad is my hero and your pretty fly yo' damn self :D Iko Iko Naked brother.
This is just awesome!
The date was AUGUST 4, 1979 --- not the 8th.
hi Forrest - blessings to you and your family if you are still on this RUclips thread.
Thanks.
the woman wearing the flowing white outfit is Rosemary Butler, backup singer for many groups in those days
Most notably the wonderful backup vocal on Running on Empty with Jackson Browne.
I think it's Rosemary Butler
Is valerie Carter there?
She sang "Heartache"
"It's so hard to come by that feeling of peace..."
Just stumbled on to this. Feat were (are) amazing in all their incarnations. Lowell, the whole band, wrote the funkiest grooves; none like 'em...maybe Dead in their inimitable way...
I was there.
impressive music. Ronstadt brought this show together -to honor Lowell George and raise funds for his family. She may have been a superstar to some but for others just a remarkable jamming voice on the scene. Cool!
Raise funds for his family? wasn"t he a millionaire already
+ jabee001. I "think" you are right on all points.
Linda... Whoa!
Aw, Nic - why did you have to leave us, too?
omg love this :D
Ah, 1979 when bras were optional. Btw about a third of this band lineup (special occasion
lineup) I would see in A.A. meetings in the eighties in West Hollywood.
Michael M on keys, how cool, everyone was there, great love for the Little F!
History comes alive - thanks so much! Besides Nicolette Larson, and the Feat, who else is in the line-up?
DAMN good.
I saw Little Feat open for the Greatful Dead. Feat played like a well tuned Fararri, the Dead putted along like a Model T!
LOL: I have no trouble believing it!
If you aint into the trip . ., Dont buy a Ticket .
merci
And I think I still have the T Shirt!!
This is awesome. WOW if you don't like then hey you need a check ✔️ up from the neck up
Freebo on the tuba. Awesome.
It's great to be able to see this but why is "All that you dream" edited and shortened? The same performance is on "Hoy Hoy" but it's longer.
Can anyone post a complete setlist for this show? It's a great one!
?...info on the internet.
wow
Is this Nicolette Larson ? Doing "Rumba Girl" ? I saw here in Mill Valley, many years ago, when her hit, "Gonna take a lotta Love" was out.........
Incredible music, they're all there and all together. What is the title of the first song performed by Nicolette Larson, she delivers a command performance?
Tears, Tears and more Tears.
Do it Bonnie ❤
@@stargazer6753 From this article in the NYT it was videoed professionally for a possible live album and video. Still blessed to enjoy it at this late date! www.nytimes.com/1979/08/06/archives/pop-coast-tribute-to-lowell-george.html
the best
Why wasn't this released as an album?
Linda RONSTADT
Bonnie Raitt on slide & vocals, I would expect, but Mikey Mac on keys & vocals came as almost a complete surprise to me, but a good fit......
Curious if this show was put out in audio format, CD or is available?
Linda doing All That You Dream plus the other ladies just too much
emmylou is pregnant at that time.
bonnie.
Nicolette Larson! (sigh)
nicolette , linda, et ???
