Deep respect and honour for doing this .... makes the whole experience enlightened.
Oh
So. I just saw Bonnie Raitt live again. I even ran one of the spot lights. I hadn’t listened ti her for a while. I missed her music. I used to listen to her a lot. In particular, I had a cassette tape of this very show. I think got it when I was still in high school, or early college (mid 80s). I listened to it over and over again. I loved it. I played it during my first tattoo (1992). I played it when I was in labor. I lost it a long time ago. I can’t believe I am listening to it now. Wow. I am floating back ti my early 20’s.
wow...I'm 68 and co-host a classic rock radio show...just found this . We have local artists in to play. BUTT THIS !!! Lawd have mercy !!!!
I saw Bonnie Raitt at one of the Dr. Pepper concerts at the Wollman Rink. August 12, 1977. Garland Jeffereys opened. Great show. Bonnie played Willin' and introduced it as a Lowell George/Little Feat song and said we all needed to listen to them. I took her advice. She was right.
I miss Lowell George! He was a great musician as well as outstanding word smith. What a songwriter. What a unique sound. Little Feat is my favorite rock n roll band. Was fortunate to see the original band in the 70's twice.
Dear Ol' Dad
Forrest George / If Lowell George was your Dad I'm so sorry for your loss. If not O well. I love dear O Dad's music songwriting and voice! Little Feat was one of two of the best live performance bands I've ever seen! The other being the Original Allman Brothers band. Lowell's version of the Hank Williams song Lonesome Whistle is one of my favorites. As I said I genuinely miss Lowell George!! 😅
The first real concert I remember and I must say, it's the most memorable concert of my life, nothing has ever surpassed it. June 17, 1978, SDSU Amphitheater. A magical incredible night of my life. Lowell George and Little Feat. I had the T-shirt (baseball style) with the tomato for years and years until it disappeared.
Forrest George was Lowell's oldest/firstborn.
That's Forrest alright David! Check out his postings of Lowell's solo gigs from the summer of '79. Didn't Jackson Browne write Of Missing Persons for you, Forrest? And here we have his Under the Falling Sky - everything in life is cyclical!
Bonnie is a month away from 23 - look how beautiful. and a true hippy.
"I miss Lowell more than I miss being eight years old"
But it’s Bonnie all day here with her sweet voice. It really goes to show how many artists try to copy stuff. Bonnie’s tones and voice.
Classic rock n roll quote right there
Can’t say it any better!
me too
Was fortunate enough to see Little Feat open for Bonnie in 1975. Still among the best shows I"ve ever seen.
Of course Bonnie Raitt is still going strong today. I love all her versions of that classic Stevie Winwood song "I can't find my way home" Life is good when I hear her timeless voice. It's so beautiful.
Make me sad that Lowell George is not.
I bought a related bootleg CD ( Sofa Blues) from the same time period of an FM radio broadcast recorded either days before or after this studio recording (and one by Van Morrison of a 1981 show in the Netherlands and Cotati Caberet! in Sonoma County CA ---I saw NRBQ among others there great spot------ to get a live version of Bright Side of the Road) in New York at Bleeker St records over 20 years ago. There is no mention of Lowell right away but then he cranks up the slide from the sofa so hence the title. Both are CDR's and would not play in all the CD players I owned except the one in my truck!

texted a friend 10 mins. ago very same thought, both listening to album now, for me bout 50th time. Doesn't ever get old.Just better, 70's such a magical time for me and many.
@@halbiggiam3320 best I ever heard, great call.
@@keithclark7947 The whole program is time in a bottle.
was just thinking the same. Beautiful
How in the hell have I lived on this planet for 60 years and I'm just hearing this for the first time?? Better late then not at all I suppose, but damn, it just ain't right! ✌🇨🇦
for anyone who didn''t know, this is on spotify and its the best thing ever
Ultra Sonic studio in Hemstead, NY hosted WLIR fm radio station concerts for years. Was lucky enough to see a lot of them and work some of them. Years later the building was bought/ given to Nassau County for a museum. In the basement were boxes of old tapes of shows and the original recording booth was still there. No console or electronics but all the original wiring. Very cool place back in the day.
I want to say something articulate, but I'm kind-of stunned by how incredible this is.....
Musette Fan i agree.this is just awesome
OMG A Classic antique ages like fine wine, or maybe cognac. Love it
More like a Matured Malt Whiskey ..... from Islay! Look it up. Western Scottish island. Heavy peaty sea salty Whisky.

Broken and in tears listening to this! Stella performances! Live recording -- not engineered to death. Choice of songs magnificent! The depth of the recording is beyond the modern 'compressed' mush you hear today. Blues touches the places in the psyche not reached by most! Pure joy!
How on earth could there be 7 people out there who would click on this and then say they don't like it
And what a great Jackson Browne tune off the actually untitled "waterbag (Saturate Before Using)" album. Under the Falling Sky one of the classics and Bonnie does it proud...
Bonnie, Lowell, & John. This is blues heaven right here. Wonderful.
In the early 80's, I had this on cassette tape, given to me from a long gone housemate. This had to be my most cherished audio recording. I wore it out before I ever could have made a digital copy. I have been heartbroken to have lost it. I am unspeakably grateful to have found it here! Thank you, thank you. It's just as I remember- perfection. Bonnie's very best.
Interesting. Back in 87, a cassette with Old And In The Way on one side, and this Bonnie Raiit set on the other, was given to me by an older Deadhead at my 3rd Grateful Dead show. I loved that tape and I'm happy to find this digital keepsafe.
I fell in love with her music in 71. Stayed with her all thease years. We are both born in 49!. Nice memories!
I started listening to Bonnie Raitt in the 70's and have been a huge fan ever since. I went to a BR concert in April in Ft. Lauderdale and she rocked the house.. I was dancing and singing like I was a teenager all over again.. it was magical... I love love love BR.. she is my favorite women singer of all time... sing it girl
I always liked the folky angle of Raitt's work that she did early on. "Give it up' is such a cool record
Just melted 40 years off my snowy afternoon. yes, she does
really know how
Words to live by; 'It's hard to tune when you're stoned.' Damn LOVE Bonnie Raitt and all the players on this!
Every time Bonnie shivers, so do I. Sounds so cute.
I keep coming back to this recording, ain't many like Bonnie!
1968, Lynn Ma I was 14 years old, Bonnie and Freebo played at the Lynn City hall, some political show...anyway first time I ever got up and danced the aisles..such a good memory..Bonnie was 18 years old
Now some Traffic. She can do it all. My wife's all time favorite singer as well. And my lovely wife is not a rock fan at ALL so that is really going some...Thanks Bonnie for giving us common bond musically...
sooooo lovely and beautiful VOICE,
LOVE you Bonnie
She is great live! I saw her in South Bend years ago. I requested Angel From Montgomery and she heard me and did it. She had stopped the show and was taking requests from the audience. She used a different guitar for every Song! Unforgettable!
Genuine class act of impeccable quality.
Just found this while scrolling and good god I have goosebumps. Wow!
John Hammond was born to sing the blues and Bonnie is the best female blues singer in my humble opinion. I love the conversations between her and the guys. She talks like she sings.
What I would give to see this on DVD ! Great concert, GREAT musos !
The BEST!! Saw Edison Electric in a Barn in South Jersey ~1969/70- It was so awesome- a very small venue in a big old Barn- and started me on a love of Freebo, Edison Electric, and Bonnie Raitt and other members that continues to this day! Freebo's hair, her voice and that wonderful music- will last a lifetime!! Yo!- anyone recall what/where that Barn was in South Jersey? The Propane heaters were Roaring- it was Winter. The upstairs (hay) Loft was filled with Music Lovers and you could see the reflection of their legs dangling over the upstairs "balcony". I was wearing a sparkly mini-dress and freezing my butt off, but it was worth it!
brings tears of joy , thank you
A mazing. Incredible representation of the era... and the genre. Absolute... in the strictest sense of the word. Bonnie Raitt at her best... and her best was phenomenal.
God bless you Tom.
for someone growing up on Long Island in the early 70's, these concerts on WLIR and that entire station's music was a godsend!!! Heard this one live too many effing years ago
i was lucky to see bonnie a couple of times in the early seventies. i was a dumb college student who liked music. anyway she is as good as anybody ever. this is a reel treat.
I'm so privileged to have heard this music in the day, know people who played it well enough to get the attention of these players, and to meet a few along the way. But on this album they are playing right near where I grew up on Long Island, Levittown.
Good Lord, to have been there!!! I can't even begin to imagine!!! Talk about the good Ol' daze ~ God bless those times, and the people makin' music here ~there, and then ~
Awesome performance! Only most of us can appreciate " I'd give anything to see you, again"!
Saw her in 1970. Just her and her guitar. Up close at the student center at William Rainey College in Chicago. I said that chick is going some where.
This is an incredible treasure. Bonnie's voice and guitar, and Lowell playing slide alongside her are a wonderful reminder of times gone past. I miss Lowell George too, though I never saw Little Feat in person. Thanks for posting this, Tom C!
If only there was video of this event. Bonnie is the complete package, looks, brains and talent.
this old heart and body sure as heck loved this. Fan of bonnie thru 37 yrs. many states and concerts. THANK YOU
Wow and the "hits just keep on comin' Love has no pride. Linda's version a classic but this one gives me full body chills!
I got to meet Bonnie, Freebo and John Hammond in late 80's early 90's
Great stuff.....memories of me and my sisters & brother listening to BR records in the 70s.....God Bless I miss her......
This is the coolest thing I think I've ever found on You Tube. I bought every Bonnie Raitt album after picking up "Give It Up" (and picked up her earlier stuff, too). I'm also a huge Little Feat fan. Thanks!
So true!
...and 20 years later Bonnie became an overnight sensation!
HOLY HUMAN DROPPINGS... I thought I'd lost this forever. I wore out BOTH my cassettes! Bonnie is completely off her head and still the most boss woman since Memphis Minnie and Freebo is her right hand man as ALWAYS, & with the 2 coolest cats in the dog pound. I've had the chance to meet J.P. Hammond a few times but i'd've given my left pompom to meet Lowell (wanted to name my son Lowell, Pete or Keef... But the missus refused). CAN'T thank you enough Tom! Better skin up & pretend it's late 80's
I was in Boston in the early 70's. I was at a concert in the commons called Summerthing...or Summerfest...it was BB King and Paul Butterfield Blues Band. The opening act was a local singer by the name of Bonnie Raitt. This is from that same year...
My favorite versions of Under a Falling Sky and Can't Find My Way Home. REAL
WOW THANK YOU! I used to have this on casset tape like 20 years ago and some one stole it from me... I NEVER thought I'd hear this again.. Laid back and hangin out with Bonnie Freebo Lowel and John somewhere out on long Island hold up in a radio station's broadcast studio... HEAVEN!!! Bonnie was what all of like 22 years old in 72?
Highest regards to whomever engineered the audio. Thank you and take a bow!
Michael 'Tapes' Colchamiro.
Bonnie and Lowell are a pair of guitar souls that belong together... enough said. Cheers.
This is incredible! Thanks for posting this. Her singing is phenomenal, but her take on Love has no pride gave me Goosebumps. My Gawd, her voice shimmers on Can't Find My Way Home. And Lowell's slide always took my breath away. 1972? She was 23 and relatively unheard of, outside of Boston and the Northeast. Tom Conklin, THANK YOU for posting, this is delightful
she played at Montclair state (north jersey ) then and i had tickets and didn't go! still beating myself up! lol
She played Philly a ton, but she went to art college here!
@@georgerigberg4335 lucky me, been a fan since '72, saw her a lot.
I had the pleasure of seeing Lowell with Little Feat about that time and the saw Bonnie and Freebo in 1976 or 77. Special folks.
I have an earlier recording in Cambridge MA, coffeehouse tape
"Love Has No Pride" Amen
Just found this today; it is just wonderful. Thanks for sharing it with the world!
OMG - this is so awesome. I saw her and Freebo back in the 70's and it's really hard to find stuff from this era of Bonnie's career. Thanks for sharing.
Feel like I just took a time machine back to the 70's.
Thanks for the audio.
holy flashback.............born in Hempstead, met them in dc,,,,darling daughter sends this link.............what a wonderful listening afternoon..............keep up your good work
Great ... Music don*t come like this anymore ... *****
neither does great fm radio.
the precursor to "Waiting For Columbus"...Bonnie's best work that I've heard to date. Thank you Tom C for uploading; thank you so very much Bonnie Raitt; Lowell we all miss you still...
Even though I think we all miss Lowell, at least we still have Bonnie - long live the Queen ! ! !
Joni MItchell, Bonnie Raitt and LInda Ronstadt all were huge artists in this very important time frame for me. Great stuff and thank you Tom conklin for the post. :)
Spot on -- greatness from the Amazons of this world!
I did not know this existed until today. I've downloaded the excerpts of what I thought was just that not a whole album. Mad my day devoted L.G & B. R. fan
Thank god this exists. So grateful somebody chose to record this amazing moment in time.
I love RUclips, I didn't expect to hear this ever again, nice treat. Loving all the Little Feat choices even better!
I first got this show on cassette many moons ago, and only picked it up because it had Lowell George on it. At the time I had no idea what young Bonnie sounded like. I'm so glad I found out and it's great that this show has become widely known. Everything about it is remarkable though for me nothing tops her performance "Love Has No Pride."
There's another very high quality show from 1972 you can find by searching for "Sigma Studios" - the setlists are similar but there are a few different things you will enjoy if you like this.
How gr8 is this!!!!!!!.......pure talent......
I have seen both Bonnie Raitt and Little Feat for himself at Circus in Stockholm, it was amazing.
fabulous performance. Top notch people, and 100 million views below what it should be!
My kind of music.
This and the Sigma Sound Studio boots are my favourite Bonnie CD's
Can't believe this has been up since 2012 and Iam just finding it now. Thank you very much!!
A Priceless Set.
This just became my favorite "Find" ever on RUclips! Thank you so much for posting. Like so many others here, Lowell was my hero. This is just great, pure stuff!
Outstanding. So much talent. Stripped down & dirty!
Sad to think that Lowell would be gone within 7 years of this photo's creation.
So glad these old WLIR tapes still exist. Amazing lineup.
Oh yes!!! This is vintage Bonnie with her original and longstanding band... Bonnie at her absolute best. Such soul...
Don't know if I can agree about "vintage Bonnie" - I have some of her first albums! I do love some of her "first" live performances, but her pre-20 y.o. performances are "vintage", but it seems like her voice just gets better and better (saw her live just a few years ago in Oakland, CA and she was like heaven in a can (or at least on stage) :)
Hi Jessica,
You are right.
There is some kind of magic in the concert.
Giri ( India)
Lots a roots ! Great stuff ! Lowel and Bonny
Chris Smither wrote "Love Me Like a Man" Awesome audio here. Thank for sharing!!
This is a classic,, I enjoyed it all :))))) ,,, ohhhhhh yeaaaaaaa
“Can’t Find My Way Home.” Bonnie and Lowell are PERFECT!👍🏿

Wow Lowell and John hamond
@Bonnie Raitt Hope everything goes well Bonnie, don’t know you personally but.i hope we get thru this vivid garbage.love the stuff you did with Lowell..
.
@Bonnie Raitt leave me alone and don’t use Bonnie’s name I’m going to report
Oh wow thankyou so much been hoping to one day hear the whole show
Feel like I just time-tripped back to the 70's.
Thanks for the post!
Immer gerne zu hören.B.R. ist auch heute Klasse und kein Mainstream
Thanks for posting!
I thought I had everything Bonnie recorded, but I was wrong, this great.
You know what's SO cool? This was recorded some 43 years ago and Bonnie's voice is just as clean and cutting as back then. I hadn't heard this before nor been much aware of John Hammond. Where have I been? Rhetorically under a rock or what? This was a good drop the music awareness pride that I've been carrying around for some time. Many thanks to RUclips and all the contributors.
Her little girl voice is so shocking compared to her singing.
John Sullivan Dude - she was a little girl!
I know!
Like most commenters here just miss Lowell and his unique musical talent. In Ireland currently a television ad for Guinness extols John Hammond Sr's discovery of the old jazz greats but we should not forget he's the father of a guitar player named John Hammond which is featured here. Thanks for posting this on you tube.
I had the good fortune to see Bonnie Raitt in 1972 when she opened for Tom Rush at the Academy of Music in Philadelphia. She outshined Rush by a mile. I knew then that I would be following this woman for life. I'm so glad she's gone back to her blues roots. (She seemed to be going the pop music path for a while. Not bad, but not HOT HOT HOT like her blues.) I've seen her a couple of times since and they're all good performances but nothing will match that first time I saw her and she had the whole audience staring in disbelief how this little wisp of a thing could belt out such powerful blues.
OMG - what an amazing performance!
Thank you for sharing quality music, Tom
thank you thank you thank you, i have been looking for this entire session for years.
Yes thankyou have been wishing for this whole show as well it is glorious
great music
Thanks for sharing this awesome music
Lowell turning his guitar and plays slide at 14:24 great live show I would have liked to have seen
This is simply EXCELLENT.
Wow, I clicked on this because I'm a Lowell George and a Bonnie Rait fan. This is really amazingly good stuff. Thanks for preserving and sharing it.
