    I never did get past the weight, the crappy laces, and the thick, warm upper. Pretty crappy overall for a $275 "racer". Hopefully the next version will remedy these issues. Comparing the similarly rockered ride and for less money, the Mizuno Wave Rebellion Pro v1 and v2 are wayyyyy better.

    I like the midsole not a fan of upper based on looks.
    Perhaps when it goes on sale or v2 with better upper may pull the trigger.

    Congratulations on 6K subs. The Endorphin Pro & TYR look nice to me. The Cielo X-1 seems more like a competitor to the Prime X or SC Trainer v1. Realistically, if I were to run a marathon (I won't) or a 1/2 (I might), I'd probably choose a nice plated trainer that's not $250+.

    As a heal striker, my choice is still the Adios Pro 3. Great durability, better price on sale sometimes in the $150 range, and when your form breaks down, that wide heel base and geometry keeps you
    moving along!

    Nice comprehensive review! I did 40 miles over the course of three runs in the Cielo X 1 for my review earlier in the month and it was the most fun shoe I’ve used in a while. Then I raced in the Vaporfly 3 for the Charlotte 10-miler, and it was fine, but I kind of missed the bounce of the CX1. A high cadence runner (185-190 spm) with PBs of sub-2:50 and sub-1:20, and I agree with most of your comparisons. AlphaFly 3 is hard to beat. But I would suggest the Endorphin Elite as an alternative as well.
    Great stuff, Yowana!

      @supwell  7 месяцев назад +2

      Thanks for the endorphin elite suggestion - I haven't tried that one yet but it's on my list for sure. Agreed that this is a fun shoe! Makes the Vaporfly feel like a racing flat 😂

    I'm nowhere near 3 hours, but OK I have cycled 112 miles before I get onto the run. Last year I ran in the Rocket X2. I tried the Cielo and it's obviously quite a bit more supportive/stable, so I will be using it at Barcelona, which is a difficult ironman to choose a shoe for as it has quite a varied surface. the Cielo is also a bit more roomy, i.e. more volume for the same length than the Rocket X2. Finally, yes it's heavier, but I didn't really notice that when running. I think because it has a bit more energy return, so that cancels it out. I am very much a mid/forefoot striker, even at the end of the (quite slow) marathon.

    • @supwell
      @supwell  7 месяцев назад

      I would love to do an Ironman one day! This is a great choice for an Ironman marathon since it's so comfortable - especially because you are a mid/forefoot striker. Good luck and update us on how it goes!

    • @deanb61
      @deanb61 7 месяцев назад

      @supwell luck is my best skill :) must admit when I first got the Cielo I was unsure. It is so much heavier than the Rocket that initially I thought it would only be a supportive trainer. But having run in it, I really don't notice the extra weight. Certainly for Barcelona, with it's uneven surface I will choose the cielo. For a standalone marathon on a good road surface, I'm undecided.

    • @brianpires8411
      @brianpires8411 7 месяцев назад +2

      Total elevation gain for the boston marathon is 815ft over 26 miles and is widely considered hilly. Not sure what you are getting at.

    • @benfield1890
      @benfield1890 7 месяцев назад

      @@brianpires8411 those who consider 800ft “a lot” needs their head wobbled :-)
      Sure- it relative… but 1000ft over 22miles is 0.5degree average, most folks houses lean by more than that!
      I was kidding but the merit of what is “hilly” might cause some to query the review, I guess hilly doesn’t have a definition to be fair.
      5000ft over 22miles would warrant hilly IMO, I guess it depends where you live.

    Still conflicted. I have high cadence and slight heel strike. I don’t know if I’d dig the weight. I really wanted the alpha fly because of the weight and it’s such a proven shoe. But I don’t know how long I can maintain the midfoot strike before I fall apart 🙃. I don’t know. Ill just be running VF2 next weekend and in October, who knows

    • @supwell
      @supwell  7 месяцев назад +1

      i wouldn't suggest this for a high cadence runner. you'd probably benefit from something lighter and a little softer - vaporfly 3 could be a good choice depending on how much you'd heel strike toward the end of the marathon. i used my vaporfly 3 for my last half PR in october and they were solid

    Could you briefly compare SC Trainer v2 vs Rebel v4?

    • @supwell
      @supwell  7 месяцев назад +1

      For sure - I have about 100 miles on both and really enjoy them both. SC Trainer v2 is a lot more cushioned and protective - 40mm stack of foam in the heel vs 30mm for the Rebel. SC Trainer v2 also feels a lot bouncier and rolls you along at any pace - it is a super easy shoe to run in and the foam and plate help do the work of running. Rebel v4 has a bit of ground feel (SC Trainer v2 has no ground feel at all) and gives a more connected ride. There's a slight roll to the Rebel v4 but it feels a lot lighter on foot and less intrusive than the Rebel. I prefer the Rebel v4 for shorter and faster runs, and the SC Trainer v2 for long runs and relaxed runs. If you mainly run up to an hour only, I'd take the Rebel - but if you're doing 10+ miles runs and getting up to 2 hours the SC Trainer v2 is a better choice

    Very thorough review. I’m a 66 year old and my pace for a 5k is 11mi and 10k is around 12mi. Would love to experience the fun of a super shoe but fear paces are too slow. Am I just too old and slow to experience a super shoe? If not is there a SS that is a possibility? One can hope 🙏🤞.

    • @supwell
      @supwell  7 месяцев назад

      I think that this is a good option for a variety of paces - it has good stability and is comfortable and cushioned unlike some other marathon racers which can feel harsh. Especially for a 5k/10k this could work well - also if it's fun you're after, this is a really fun shoe

      One running vlogger I encountered via RUclips recommendations has ran in marathons in slower paces. He said that at his state he can’t finish a half marathon in 2 hours. He has tried running a marathon in a regular daily trainer and in super shoes and he said that while the super shoes didn’t make him run faster, it made the run more enjoyable.
      He said that after a certain distance regular running shoes made him feel the ground on every step and finishing the distance was a challenge. This issue was solved by running in super shoes.

      @@supwellwell I broke down and purchased the Cielo X1. I took advantage of a 20% discount from a local retailer. Would not normally purchase such and expensive shoe but with the discount putting the X1 in the price range of some supper trainers I pulled the trigger. I was worried my slower paces would not be agreeable with the X1. I was wrong. The midsole is magical and could feel it was helping along with the plate hit faster paces with some ease. No issue with laces and the upper and tongue are fine but probably could be better. Didn’t notice the weight of the X1 being an problem. I run mainly 5K & 10k races. Some day a half😂. 10 minutes into my first running shoe I thought to myself I finally found my super racing shoe. Thanks for the review and the nudge to take a chance on the X1.

    If you had two pairs of racing shoes Hoka Cielo X 1 and the Endorphin pro 3, which one would you use for racing and which one to train in?

    • @supwell
      @supwell  7 месяцев назад +2

      That's a great question. Personally I would probably train in cielo and race in pro 3 since the cielo is more cushioned and the pro 3 is lighter. But they are similar in terms of what they offer - comfortable rides friendly for a lot of paces that can also go fast
