  • Moseley Road Baths, Balsall Heath Birmingham England.
The Moseley Road Baths is one of the most marvellous public swimming pools in the country: Edwardian gem est. c1907, Grade II* listed, now being run by a community trust, and in the process of restoration by a coalition which includes the National Trust, Historic England, Birmingham City Council, and the World Monuments Fund.
The tour - led by Janet Lewis, a member of the Friends of Moseley Road Baths - will take us in the ‘slipper baths’, the laundry room, the boiler room and the magnificent Gala Pool. Source birminghamheritageweek.co.uk/...

Last swam in this pool in 1975, back then it was very run down and it wasnt unusual to see large cockroaches scuttling about and floating on the water. To a 16 year old me, it was just a run down part of Birminghams infrastructure that was probably best to avoid if possible. Looking at it via this video today 50 plus years on , I am amazed it has managed to survive and appreciate seeing the restored architecture which obviously represents something special and will never be seen again in future new construction .

Many happy hours I spent in these baths. I learnt to swim there back in 1956 and used these baths during my time with the 10th Birmingham Boys Brigade which was located on the other side of the road at Moseley Road Methodist church. We used the second pool on a Friday night, which was great fun as we could use flippers and snorkels. Let me know when another tour is planned I would like see view the old building again.

Look 😄😅 When I saw Janet I thought "I'm sure I met her before, her face looks familiar". And now that you say that, I'm like "Yes you're right!" She does look like the Queen 😀
