    44 years ago i grew up in this area, great times, it didn't look like it does now.

      The area looks rough today unfortunately. The Victorian terrace on the left of the thumbnail was recently demolished for redevelopment.

      I grew up here too. I hated it. Got kerb crawled on my way home from school, in my uniform. Best thing I ever did was leave, in the mid eighties.

    I love your walk about videos & the research you do about buildings, especially your videos about Handsworth & Moseley. I have one request, could you do a video of West Bromwich ? Which is my home town. I would be grateful.

      Thank you so much Junior 🙂 It’s funny that you bring up West Bromwich because a couple of weeks ago I bought a book on West Brom history for when I decide to do a postcard video on this area. I’ll definitely do it but cannot say when as I have received so many requests. But definitely this year! Thank you for the suggestion 😉

      @Bob Christie, thank you for your comment. Unfortunately, I don't have any footage of Hobbs Road. I learned that Birmingham Library had a digital section with old footages of Birmingham. I will contact them (because I need old films for my postcard videos), and find out it they have anything on Wednesbury and Hobbs Road 😉

    Nice to see Creation Climbing at the end - one of my friends was an instructor there (but doesn't live in Birmingham any more). Apart from that it's all a bit derelict and yet people build housing on green field sites instead of developing these places! The main road early on - I recall getting a bus from there some time, it will have been a no. 8 bus, but I have no idea why I was catching a bus in such a desolate place.

    • @citiesthroughmyeyes
      @citiesthroughmyeyes  3 года назад +1

      Always good to hear from you Chris 🙂 No offence but there is no way I am climbing anything in that area. Lol!! Too much fly tipping. They are trying to regenerate the area: the School of Art & Moseley Baths were refurbished & renovated. There is a local organisation called Balsall Heath litter buster that cleans the streets every Sunday. But the area needs much more support but the Council doesn’t give a sh*t...
      You have a good memory it is indeed the no. 8 bus and that main road is Highgate Rd. I also used that bus once some years ago.
      I hope everything is fine in your part of the world. Have a lovely day and I shall talk to you in my next video.

    The driver who nearly ran you over was not even indicating. Plus there’s no pedestrian sequence on the traffic lights despite being in a built up area.

    • @citiesthroughmyeyes
      @citiesthroughmyeyes  3 года назад +1

      Thank you Sir 🙏! That's exactly what I saw when I edited the video. There is no pedestrian traffic lights, no pedestrian crossing ... I crossed the road when the lights were red. I looked both ways before crossing. I was half way to the other side of the pavement when that young man nearly hit me with his car. And guess what, there was another man in the passenger seat, so 4 eyeballs were in that car! You can even hear a young woman - who saw what happen - saying "it's not her fault". A pedestrian area with no pedestrian lights is a no-no for me!

    • @evertonporter7887
      @evertonporter7887 2 года назад

      That's typical behaviour of so many drivers in these areas. They don't use their indicators when turning left or right, even at roundabouts. Plus the traffic lights were on red when you crossed the road, so the driver was at fault.

    • @dmdm7690
      @dmdm7690 2 года назад

      Yes, please be careful. Drivers in this area can be terrible. Was born and brought up in balsall heath and nearby areas and things have really gone downhill in terms of road etiquette, people dumping beds, fridges and all manner of stuff on thd streets as if it's bio degradable not to mention all the vermin attracted to food that is carelessly chucked out.
      Having got all that off my chest, I have your videos are excellent and riveting . You're doing a great service for people of the older generation and those to come. God bless and protect you in your invaluable service

    Thanks for another great video Joseline. Theres certainly a few diamonds in the rough round there, especially loved seeing the old art school, such a beautiful building.
    Unfortunately, theres an awful lot of ne're do wells around here and the second they see a camera they're gonna be shitting themselves, so you're always gonna be a bit of a target I'm afraid. Yep, I've had people try and mow me down in the past of threaten to punch my face in. Cant you invest in a Go-pro and where it around your neck? Itd be a bit more inconspicuous than a camera on a stick. Anyway, thanks again for your video, we enjoy watching them. Take care.

      I will definitely buy a pocket camera for when I decide to go “deep” but in the nice & ok areas I will continue using my phone 🙂 Thank you for commenting on my videos. It means a lot to me. I have a tiny group of regulars, my little community lol. And it feels good 😎

      Your painting a bad picture. Bad people in every area. I've had people be racist to me in Solihull and Sutton Coldfield, that doesn't mean everyone has and there can be some good people. Also the area has lots of different profession like doctors who treat you in the hospital living there too.
