  • I will demonstrate how to install your print surface to your build surface with a few easy steps.
In this video I am showing the installation of the Wham Bam flexible build system, you will see how to install the PEX build surface onto our Flexi Plate, although you can use the same method for PEI, PC or other build surfaces.
Work in a very clean area, dust particles and dirt are your enemy.
Our PEX is super transparent so you will see some hazing in the 3M glue, this is natural and can't be avoided but does not affect the performance or longevity.
Make sure you work from center outward with a precise strategy.
I am showing the dry method, I have taken down the wet method videos as some users had issues with trapped liquid under the surface. If any of you have extensive experience with applying decals and adhesives with soapy water or windex and can share your knowledge how to avoid trapped liquid please share, I would be happy to test your methods and share results.
Let me know in the comments if this helps!

Another great video Peter. My order arrived this morning (UK), only 7 days after placing my order, great work. Cleared space in my office, made tea, then got to work with the installation and it worked great.
I decided to use the wet method with 99.9% IPA, although I did not dilute it as I was concerned that there could be contaminants added in the water (maybe just me being over cautious) Applied the IPA with a fine spray bottle and it worked perfectly. To smooth it all down, I used an applicator that had one side covered with a velvet like material (I kept it from a phone screen protector that I got over a year ago, I knew it would come in handy one day) which worked great.
I remembered to remove the protective sheet afterwards.
Originally I didn't think I wanted to 'scuff' the surface of my brand new PEX, but it is evident that it needs to have the sheen taken off, so I will do it. Although my prints have stuck perfect.
The magnetic sheet, I stuck down dry.
I can confirm from my experience, that it was a lot easier than I had thought. Just be patient, don't rush and follow the instructions and videos. Above all, don't be afraid to try, you WILL be pleasantly surprised.
BTW; It is a great feeling of satisfaction when it's done ... It looks awesome too.

thanks for the follow up Spike, its nice to hear when other Wham Bammers have an easy and great experience, and maybe removes some of the fear or hesitation from those who might install for the first time!

Have you guys thought about selling your own cold roller (laminator) for those who need to apply these frequently with minimal blemishes? It has been surprisingly difficult to find a decent one that isn't ridiculously priced or from questionable sources. I'm sure you guys could come up with a solid, compact design that's economical.
BTW if anyone like me is wondering, I wouldn't try a wet application. I worked at a sign shop for many years and thought it'd be a breeze but I have not figured out a way to do it without bubbles eventually forming and destroying the adhesive. Maybe there's a way to pull it off but it seems like a dry application is required.

@@kbkilla420336 As far as removing the old PEX,
we are using a very secure high temperature authentic 3M adhesive that doesn't peel up during long high temp prints, but that means removal is very difficult.
You can either do one of two things:
      A. leave old PEX on it and mount new to the other side of Flexi Plate, this way you can have one side for risky or rough prints and the other for perfect prints, this may slightly reduce magnetic hold so you have to see if this works for you, for most it's fine.
      B. remove old PEX. This is a sloppy and difficult job, you will need to work on some cardboard, have plenty of paper towels, acetone, rubber gloves, and a spatula.
      Use eye protection!
I begin peeling up old PEX and adding some acetone to the peeled open surface to help removal. (some say putting it in the freezer for an hour helps it to come off easier)
Your Flexi plate will now be covered with the 3M, so wet it with acetone, or soak paper towel in acetone and leave on Flexi Plate.
Once 3M is soft you then use a spatula to scrape the gel-like 3M off the plate and clean with paper towel, repeat until the plate is clean.
Others have said that WD40 works but I haven't tried it yet.

Is it only the PEX that has the protective film or do your other build surfaces have it too?

Some of the more recent PEI surfaces have it as well, but not all!
