I watched that video, among others, last year around November/December, but only made the change on January 02. I'm still going strong despite the difficulties, especially since I'm from a historically disadvantaged black township in South Africa. However, I'm somewhat of a cook, and even now, I'm watching this while preparing chickpea patties :D
This book is just what we needed!
For many of us, veganism is more than an ethical position.
Veganism has made me fall in love with cooking. Ever since I became vegan back in January of 2021, I've had this dream to create a giant collection of east/south Asian veganized recipes. Whenever people hate on my food simply because it's vegan, I feel like they want to stop me from striving towards this goal. I think a lot of vegans can relate.
For sure! Cooking is such a special part of my history s d getting to share that aspect alongside my veganism has been so special.
Way back in the 70s I went from 98 pound weakling to 125 pound strongling on a vegan diet. Despite EVERYBODY at the gym insisting that I would NEVER build muscle or gain strength without MEAT! (And of course the usual "girls can't be strong idiocy.) I ran marathons. I outworked the guys who worked masonry with me. And even then was told that I HAD TO eat meat. ... Cognitive dissonance abounds regarding healthy diet.

I mean they rpobably meant that eating meat would be make it much much so much easier to build muscle. You have to go waaaay out of your way to to that on a vegan diet. Not saying it cant be done.

I went vegan 11/1/19 after watching game changers and what the health. it’s the best thing I have ever done. And my boss also went vegan as well after I did. He was vegetarian before that. When I pointed out he could go vegan we both did and are super happy we did. I love your videos
The hardest part of debating a meateater is keeping your patience in the face of willful ignorance and unwillingness to listen to anything they dont agree with. Im working on that, and Ed is the perfect role model.

Your last book was a banger, can't wait to get this one too. I think it's great to distill your debate experience into a book of tactics essentially for activists and the average vegan layperson (like me....) who may not be experienced with debating non vegans.
I never knew how to talk about veganism to my friends before you Ed. I’ve been very lucky in having mostly supportive family, and my mom and brother even went vegan afterwards too, but my friends have always been quick to shut me down whenever the topic arrises, or make fun of me when they can. All of your books and content so far have made me a much more confident and enthusiastic vegan, and this book is no doubt going to be another amazing resource. Thank you for all of the work you do Ed, you’re the best.
You more than likely brought up that subject matter. I am sure everything would have been fine if you didn't keep up bringing up veganism.
My wife and I have four boys the two middle ones turned vegan activists two and half years ago. Every night is a debate one night they made a very good point.
My wife and I are self employed in the hunting and sport fishing industry. So they asked us how we could live with ourselves knowing that everything we have has been paid for with the blood of innocent animals. I looked at everything that they had the following morning I took every luxury item away from them.
They don't even call my wife and I mom and dad since they went vegan. They said when we go vegan then they will. Well they called us mom and dad after they went vegan once afterwards.
That was when I told them that they had nothing but a roof over their head, clothes on their back, and food in their stomach.
When they graduate from high school they are gone. My wife and I decided that it would be best not to help them pay for college and we also cut those two out of the will. Our other boys will be getting everything right down the middle.
@@shawndarling1980 wow sorry you all went through that. But nah, I only ever responded to insults and whatnot for the first like 3 years, our situation isn’t the same. Since then I’ve learned to bring it up occasionally when it makes sense, and we’re often able to have healthy debate (Which is good and everybody is “fine” don’t worry.) I think debate about such an important issue is important to have every now and then. Anyways, the point of my comment wasn’t to complain, I was just thanking Ed for helping me be a better communicator in the matter. I don’t have many issues with my friends/family dynamic because of being vegan, don’t worry. Best wishes to all of you guys tho, hope your kids are doing ok

I'm from the area you mentioned (DFW) and it took a hand raised calf to be slaughtered to convert me to vegetarianism. I now been vegan for a bit longer than a decade. I'll be getting your new book. Thanks for creating my new best friend.
I was 15 and saw the cows that I loved in our field and suddenly realized that one day they would all be slaughtered. My dad was grilling burgers that night and I couldn’t stomach eating them!!! Never looked back. Good on ya for picking a great path for yourself and the animals 🖤

I admire your intelligence. You enlightened me years ago when I changed my lifestyle to a whole-food diet. Have been a vegetarian for 42 years, because of the harm and sick cruelty to animals I do not eat dairy now either. Having great energy and time living this way. I wish I had your bravery to talk about it more. I can only be an example to others and hope I plant a seed to them.

If one gets angry, generally speaking that means they double down , become defensive, which makes them unable to hear what the other person is really saying.
@@marcdaviau5340 The only argument for using animal products is that might makes right, which is what fascists believe. There is no coherent moral justification for it. So, you have to think it is acceptable primarily because we can impose our will on these animals and we want (not need) what that produces.
@@Cancellator5000 Yes because we are the dominant species and we are literally supposed to dominate other species. We are the ones who control the world and everything within it. Also, morals are subjective. My morals do not say that animal deserves the right to live simply because it is sentient.
Well done, Ed! As a book author myself of academic articles, and books and chapters, I appreciate how well documented and written your work is. I appreciate ‘How to Argue with a Meat Eater’ will necessarily be more qualitative in nature given it is based on your long time experience. I look forward to learning from more of your wisdom and experience.
The mostly ‘thoughtless’ justification by the public and even ‘health’ professionals does become tedious even in academic circles, where ‘carnism’ is rampant. Even our professional programs in nutrition continue to teach ‘carnist nutrition’ with no thought given to that long held ‘non’ evidence- based framework. Yet we profess to be ‘evidence-based’. I only wish it were so.

Show them the artificial insemination process of cows, pigs, chickens, fish and bees and how farmers collect the semen for this process. Then show them EXODUS 22-19 in the bible.
