When I first arrived, they were interested to know if I'm 'meat eater' or eat normal, which meant vegetarian. This was the first time it really clicked in my mind that eating meat was not the normal. And, I decided not to eat meat, because they would have bought it only for me as all the others were veg so that I could directly see the bad impact I myself would have. Let's face it people aren't gonna change as veganism is way too idealistic but what we can change is we can find a different way of sourcing our food there are many attempts on grown lab meat but it's still in its primitive stage the product looks like a nasty ground meat but i believe we can reach the sophistication to grow pork chops and steaks in a lab one day that is cheap and people would like and maybe produce some cow milk in a chamber as well. Sometimes prevention is not the solution.

The issue is that "one day" we will all be living underwater from rising ocean temperatures, or we'll just be dead from the next major pandemic. We are in a climate crisis and also a pandemic _right now_ and we need change _now_. I do appreciate your honesty, truly. But you're standing outside a burning house with a group of people, everyone throwing gasoline on it, and saying "well maybe someone will invent a hose one day" when you could _stop throwing gasoline on it right now_.
I get it - not everyone is going to do it - but that's a very bad attitude to have towards something that ultimately benefits us all, the ending of raising animals for food. Not contributing your bit because "no one else will".
You can compare it to a bunch of people huddled around someone who has just been hit by a car. No one picks up the phone and dials 911 because they assume someone else will do it. The difference here is that this actually affects _you_. What are you willing to do about it?

@Orange likely because pets are different animals to us and require different diets. I don't deny that it is possible for these animals to live on a vegan diet since a lot of the nutrients they get from meat can now be synthesised, but now is a question of how well the vegan alternatives can be digested. Not enough testing has taken place for me to be confident enough to actually buy these vegan pet products. I'm vegan, and I plan on getting a cat or dog in the future, however I'm not doing it until these vegan pet products have been completely proven to be just as healthy and digestible as normal pet foods, or until lab grown meat has been proven to be completely ethical and sustainable for the environment.
Also some pets physically cannot eat vegan food, for example if they are carnivorous, such as snakes. Even if the nutrients were to be completely synthesised, it's unlikely that they'd actually even touch the food in the first place, since they're notoriously picky eaters, which makes lab grown meat all the more important since that's likely something they'd actually eat.

WARNING LONG POST: My wife and I are Vegan, We are Buddhist, in the case of my wife, she was “Born Buddhist” of the Theravada Tradition.
We visit many Temples and offer what is called “Dana” we prepare (vegan) food for the Temple, Usually in our case enough to feed 8-10 persons.
The food from every Temple goer, that has chosen to cook, is placed on a communal table. Monks, choose what they want in their bowls, before the “Buffet” is thrown open to the the Temple attendees.
A HUGE feast is usually had by all. Our contribution is marked “vegan” - as do other Vegan Buddhists that attend, at some Temples we are the ONLY ones offering vegan dishes, if one excludes fruit, etc.. which is by and in itself Vegan.
About 90% of all food offered contains Animals!
I have asked (and read) as many monks as will talk with me, about their philosophy towards Animals, In EVERY case they have an answer, that confirms their position and why they must eat Animals.
“Theravada countries of South East Asia, monks are obliged by the “vinaya” to accept almost any food that is offered to them, including meat, unless they suspect the meat was slaughtered specifically for them.”
However this is not really true, there are ten “meats” that they will not eat, even if it is offered. SEE:- www.accesstoinsight.org/lib/authors/thanissaro/bmc1.pdf Page 307 onwards.
Theravada Buddhism, most will argue there are three “MAIN” branches of Buddhism, Theravada, Mahayana, and Vajrayana - of course there are dozens and dozens of sub groups.
I have NEVER, found a meat eating Monk or practitioner, to have any compassion whatsoever towards Animals - in one “debate”, the Monk insisted, Buddha, confirmed that it is OK to eat meat. Therefore that is my position!!!
One Vegetarian Monk I met, took all the meat out of his offering and ate only the Veggies. The meat was fed to the Temple dogs. Whilst of course his food was cooked in "Meat", I admired him for his "stand", within a VERY rule centred Monk-hood.
Ed if you read this far, I am astounded, I believe there is “No Hope” for the religious sections of society, particularly if their “Gods” or “Masters” condone the killing.

The conversation progressed and I asked "Does your religion ...." It is at that time I found out Buddhism is most certainly not a religion. He was quite fluent in English and managed to confer his version of the fundamental difference. Religion is from "without", (Gods)" Buddhism searches "within". was the crux of his lesson.

It depends, if you have shoes they could contain rubber/plastic parts. An idea could be to give them to friends (if you want to be sure they are not going to be thrown away).

    • @EiLpigreco
      @EiLpigreco 3 года назад +9

I don't think this is a good idea.. first of all, these items are never made out of just leather, there are also other components.. secondly, they would absolutely serve no purpose when buried in the ground, while the lives of those animals have already been taken, so I would say it makes more sense to give them to somebody who's cold and can't afford buying new stuff..

    • @OptimisticApocalypse

That is a really nice thought. I don’t know if leather would decompose the way the skin would have before it was treated, could cause more issues for the environment it’s been buried in.

I would never eat the lab-grown meat bc it would still be meat of some animal and it would still be unhealthy. HOWEVER, I would love for it to exist for people who "need" it to stop actually killing the animals.

I went vegan almost a year ago. Still using the leather couches I purchased. If I was rich I would replace everything in my home that isn't vegan. I'm very happy just to wear out everything and slowly replace it. The food however I gave away.

Honestly I just wear my animal products out. I have a few wool pullovers and a leather bag. Somehow I think throwing these things away is even worse than buying them in the first place. But donating them is always an option.

I have a pashmina blanket my mother bought us when we were young, we were a low income family so to have something as "luxurious" as a pashmina blanket was such a nice feeling... I didn't find out until recently that pashmina comes from animals. I still use the blanket tho, it holds precious memories of my mum and my childhood, and it'd be a waste to throw it out

I hate getting mocked, I hate not having options , I hate both having variety, I hate feeling so restricted. Veganism is sucking the joy out of my social life, I’m so isolated. I just hit 6 months and I’m on the verge of quitting 💔 and i have these cravings that I just can’t shake off. Vegan versions of things are NOT accessible where I live and veganism isn’t widely spread yet in China. It’s also expensive to order the vegan versions online.
