For people defending Winston, he is the one with the earpiece in his helmet and he could have just said "it's a kneel" and then broke the huddle. He also doubled down to the media right after and said he was "happy" about it and had no regrets.
Do you not UNDERSTAND that there was 10 other men that said NO! Didn't you see the other players speak out about it? Didn't you hear SAS repeat that AGAIN?
I'm disgusted hearing an ex-player call for another player's means of supporting his family because of a touchdown pass to close out a losing season. The fact the they as a team did that, Jameis is a better coach than the coach. And if anything it gives me more respect for jameis. Because he went out there and took a bullet to help a teammate. And the team owner having to pay his player more appropriately, the opponent, and media might not like it. But those guys in the locker room sure should appreciate him more.
Imagine if a team lines up in V formation going to kneel and the linebacker of the opposing team ploughing through the line and pancake the QB. They would fine his a$$ back into junior league
The Miami Dolphins had a chance to set the all-time, one game, NFL scoring record when they got 70 points against the Denver Broncos, but they stopped trying to score any more points, sat on the ball and killed the clock. An easy field goal, which was available to them, would have set the record with 73 points. The 1966 Washington Redskins (Commanders) still have the record with 72 points in a win (72-41) against the New York Giants
Disagree with Shannon here. 1) It was a team decision. It takes 11 players to run a play. 2) The people who should be in question are Arthur Smith for his suspect coaching and Dennis Allen who is so disliked that his players did what they did. 3) The Tush push is also ran out of this formation. And if it gets banned then what the Saints ran will be the future. 4) Saints also had bounty gate. I'm pretty sure this isn't the worst thing this team has done lol
Who remembers whe Jameis was getting cussed out by Jimbo Fisher at Florida State for changing plays repeatedly? For whatever reason the conversation was picked up by a live microphone. Jameis laughed but Jimbo said if he does it again, Jameis would be benched.
56-19 with 8 minutes left in the 4th and you still passing the ball and throwing deep but we mad at a last minute touchdown for his teammate to get a TD before the season over
Exactly. These commentators only going after Winston and the coach says it all. Guess it was just Jameis out there by himself. They just don't like Winston or the coach.
It's almost like some people don't understand context. If they came out there in a run formation, cool. But to come out in the victory formation and run it on a team that isn't even playing defense is disrespectful. It's a lack of character. And if the coach sends in a call, the BACKUP qb shouldn't change it in the huddle. Nobody was mad at Miami early in the season when they had a chance to go for the record. Had they went for it, nobody would have complained. The problem with New Orleans is that next time they go into victory formation and a team comes off the ball and blasts their qb the same ones praising this will be crying about how they are dirty and knew he was gonna kneel
Love that from Winston, cared more about getting his teammate a TD than what the media and shady sharpe would have to say about him. Winston a team player
Most people don’t get it. As a former Army Sergeant, what Winston did was gross insubordination and disrespectful act that shows total disregard for authority. You don’t put your coach through such an embarrassing situation for your own personal aggrandizement by disobeying simple instructions. That’s the point. If you don’t get it, you don’t get it!
This is not the military and no one's life was on tbe line...it is not that deep but just like so many things people try to compare sports to real life. This coach proves over and over he has his pets and he watches out for them only. The Saints players clearly know what's up but as usual, the media and certain fans are distracted by a nonstory jnsteae of recognizing the real issue-THE COACH.
@@maryj1156 Ok, let’s move away from the military for a sec. People can have their opinions about the coach and that’s fine. However, football IS real life. They go to play to get paid just as you go to work to earn your living. People get fired from their jobs for a little or no disobedience at all, that’s real life too. I bet if you were a leader, there are barriers you won’t let your team members cross when it comes to carrying out instructions you have given them and you may want to set any one that disobeys you straight. Not out of spite but to make sure there is order in your team. That’s all I am saying. I am not a Saints fan and do not care whatever Atlanta does but things and attitudes like what Winston did causes people their livelihoods/ jobs everyday. It doesn’t have to be life and death to ensure good order and discipline in a team whether a football team or a retail shop team. That’s all I am saying!
@@Ransah79 well fire the WHOLE team including his golden boy because they are backing Jameis. My problem is Jameis is getting all the criticism when it was clear the team was celebrating the decision.
If he was a good coach he would have ran a run play. A good leader gives the right orders. A great leader puts his people in the position to win. Trying to get his player a touchdown would've been a sign of love a respect for the players playing under him. Instead he chose to kneel. The team cared more about each other than the coach because the coach didn't display that he is all for his players.
Yes they do. There is a reason Fire Dennis Allen has been trending since the game ended. He should not have apologized to the dirty birds and should not have thrown his players under the bus. He has officially lost the locker room
@Noliestold-np6qi no just passionate. We know that if Allen stays, next year will be a nightmare. Nothing wrong with protesting, which is partly what u think they were doing by ignoring him
It's always funny how the media talks about football being a "TV-show" first and foremost (they repeated this over and over when it came to the college rankings) - but when some fun and exciting TV-show type antics take place they suddenly switch the narrative.
First take is such a good show, everyone on air led by Stephen A Smith is so honest, it’s actually refreshing. Huge fan who watches every day at 2AM all the way from Australia.
Nah Shannon is dead wrong to say this especially when he was ok with the dolphins scoring again to break or tie the scoring record and the TD wasn’t even for him it was for the RB
If they lined up regularly and ran a play it wouldn’t be an issue, the problem is that they ran the ball in victory formation. That how you get an offensive player hurt in the future because the defense will decide to go all out just in case.
Hiking the ball in victory formation is the equivalent of a fighter going to shake his opponent's hand and then punching him in the face. if you think that's okay do you have a lot to learn about respect, pride, sportsmanship and generally just being a classy individual.
Jameis has been mistreated. Dude took a pay cut to be with the Saints and rode the pine for years. Then lost his job to an injury. Allen threw dirt in his face by having him out there for a meaningless last play. I would be disgruntled too.
The call was Victory formation. People bringing up points or scoring etc missing the point. Obviously there’s many sides an opinions on this but that’s like telling someone you’re going to stop doing something and then you proceed to do it anyways. Or imagine a fighter trying to tap out an his opponent saying, nah. It is worse than deception when it comes to sports.

So y’all still don’t get it lol. If cut Jameis, then cut the whole team. That wasn’t a Jameis decision. It was a team decision. Dennis Allen lost this team last yr to be honest. Michael Thomas and AK have no love for him. Make some calls SA
Seems like Shannon just wanted the opportunity to bash Jameis. It wasn’t Jameis that made the decision, it was the entire offense. The offense collectively decided to get Jamaal a TD.
I have no problem with it. The victory formation is a choice but there is still time on the clock so the game is still being played. Do whatever you want within the rules of the game while the game is being played.
The Philadelphia Eagles did the same thing in the 1980s against the Dallas Cowboys. They went victory formation and then threw a hail mary to try and run up the score. People commended the Eagles for it since it was putting it to their rival. What is different now?
Can’t wait for somebody to just absolutely level Winston next time around. The opposite team would be like “it was a team decision to all out blitz your victory formation, the linebacker just wanted to get an extra sack for a bonus.” Absolute disrespect for the integrity of the game. It’s like extending your hand for a handshake and then pulling a Will Smith.
Both teams agreed to play 60 minutes of football. I agree that they shouldn't have run that play out of victory formation, but I have absolutely ZERO ISSUE with the Saints scoring that last TD.
So the next time your team goes in to victory formation and your quarterback gets bull rushed because hey they might be running a play don't cry about it.
Y’all notice not a single player did anything after he scored right? No shoving, no jersey grabbing, no social media posts. The media is trying to push this topic when so much else happened over the weekend.
That’s bc it’s the last play of the season and everyone is in off season mode. Jameis will be cut, Allen will be fired, and the saints will get cheap shotted all over the field next year
They did it because of the power of friendship. Their teammate didn't have a touchdown all year so they gave him a late Christmas present. I'm dying of laughter, they really did their division rivals dirty just to give their teammate with 0 touchdowns a touchdown. Thats some anime power of friendship stuff right there.
Winston should’ve just shut up. Nobody asked him to be the spokesperson for what happened. I knew the moment he opened his mouth he was getting himself in trouble.
People saying that the Falcons should have played better are completely missing the point. It's not about the Saints running up the score. It's about the team, and especially Jameis as a reserve QB, being insubordinate to Dennis Allen. The fact that the coach told them what to do and they disregarded his decision is why Shannon has a problem with it. It shows a lack of discipline and respect for the coach and organization. If coach told them to go out there and run it up and said so in the post-game press conference then it would be a different story.
This play was the NBA-equivalent of a team winning by 20 and going in for a last second dunk when they're not being guarded. LeBron would never do that, so your attempt at making a point is pretty useless.

Yeah coach has got to go. It doesn’t matter how good or bad you are, you lose the player’s respect, it’s over. They won’t take you seriously and it shows on the field
So let me get this straight….. the same Shannon that said on his podcast a couple of days ago that when he was on the Broncos, John Elway would put him into motion simply to tell him his assignments on each snap because he didn’t know the plays, now wants a team to cut the QB for helping his teammate get a touchdown 🤔🤔. Hey if you like it, I love it right
If that's all you see, then you seriously lack intelligence, or social skills of any kind. First of all, Winston pulled that stunt out of a victory formation. Victory Formation is an agreement within the league between the teams and the players that have established via "TRUST" for decades, to avoid any unnecessary injuries when the game is out of reach. This clown of a player Winston thought that was a no big deal to break that, and stabbed the opposing team in the back. If you want to score, do it properly. Breaking the trust established for decades to sneakily get one score is what Shannon is referring to as "loser's mentality". Second, he went rogue. There's no coach in the NFL right now who would trust this clown, or this team down the road. He put himself and the team in the harms way, because in the future, even when this team is in victory formation, the opposing team can run them down and try to hurt them, because... they deserve it, since they broke that agreement first. But instead, you simply view this event as a "QB helping his teammate get a touchdown." You seriously lack the ability to comprehend social interactions if you can't see the ramification of breaking social contracts.
I think the point he is making is that there is a disconnect between coaching staff and the players. So someone gotta go, and probably not just "one" either. Jameis can't be trusted to even kneel the ball down, so he gotta go. And coach can't even control his backup QB, so he gotta go too.
This is a strong reaction Shannon...i don't think this was at that level. I disagree. They got a kid a TD for himself. I'm ok with them making a decision and standing on it. Taking responsibility. And moving forward. This is considered egregious? Last play of the year man. Not the first play of the season. Jesus.
In being okay with it, you're also advocating for not listening to the coach, taking advantage of the 3rd string defense who thought you were lining up in victory formation and wasn't really ready to try to stop you, and for getting a "kid" whose almost 30 years old in his 7th year in the league a touchdown when he actually led the league last year with 17. There is zero reason to score in that moment other than to be selfish. I do love the irony, though... the Saints missed the playoffs mostly because Williams was so bad this year. Hopefully that 1 touchdown he got will remind him and everyone else he basically cost his team the division.
What a shock. ESPN is villainizing a brother. It wasn't Jameis sole decision. It was a team decision. The team celebrated it at the sideline. The team blocked and dude ran it in. But somehow it is all on Jameis and he should cut. Give me a break. They fans loved it. This actually is good for football and the rivarly,
The play was more than disrespectful. It was dangerous. The Falcons players are not expecting to be rolled up on and so are not prepared for the hits as they would have been on a normal play. Much greater chance of being injured. The selfishness of the Saints' players here is astonishing. They should know better than anyone how easily someone could have been injured.

Shannon is right on point on this one.
Thank you Saints
That was Jamaal Williams only TD of the season. Jameis is a W teammate of you ask me.

@dangermanv6133 how did he steal it? The defenders heard the kill kill
This how you know Shannon don’t pay attention…the team is rallying around Winston all on social media…you cut him you might as well cut everybody else
I think the point he is making is that there is a disconnect between coaching staff and the players. So someone gotta go, and probably not just "one" either. Jameis can't be trusted to even kneel the ball down, so he gotta go. And coach can't even control his backup QB, so he gotta go too.
Shannon on some BS using multiple platforms to try to get Jameis fired for scoring 😂 Game was over. Why do people care so much?
Yea, whatever he says on nightcap, he says it on first take the next day
This is a strong reaction Shannon...i don't think this was at that level.
Great Shalon.👏👏👏

The play was more than disrespectful. It was dangerous. The Falcons players are not expecting to be rolled up on and so are not prepared for the hits as they would have been on a normal play.
