New subbie here! I’ve been a hair stylist for 22 years and you did an awesome job Emily! During the pandemic lockdown I was forced to cut and layer my own hair and I have very very thick, wavy hair like you do. This is basically the same method I use at home when I can’t get anyone to cut my hair, then I go through manually and recheck my layers, making sure everything is even and whatnot. I love the three ponytail method you used in the beginning! I’m going to do that next time I cut layers in just a few days. I haven’t tried to hair products you mentioned, I use Moremo products mostly and Tweaked shampoos and conditioners because they have no phosphates in them. I do have that Revlon blow dry brush and I LOVE IT!! OMG BEST BLOWOUT EVER especially for my thick, unruly, dry, wavy, colored hair! Dries my hair quickly and effortlessly also! I also use Chi Thermal Spray to protect my hair from heat damage, only $11.00 on Amazon. It’s awesome! Can’t wait to view all of your other videos! We can all learn something from each other. Life is a learning lesson each day. I love gathering hacks and tips from people and apply them to myself. You deserve millions of followers! You’re incredible! 🔥👏👏👏❤️
I’m going to try this method as well thanks for coming on this person’s RUclips page… gonna be a new subscriber based on the easy method and also because of ur comment as well
I started with cutting some fringe and decided to go all in and try this. Turned out great with a a lot of cute layers and still have most of my length that I love. It saved me $60 or a crap haircut too! I’m a natural curly girl so I’m going to try it natural tomorrow but today I went for the blown out look! Thank you for the tutorial!
Did this Saturday night absolutely love it!! Cut 13" off my hair & ordered the dryer you suggested it came in today 💞💞 got tons of compliments on my haircut from friends thought it was done at a salon 😄 nope girl from RUclips..."of course it was"🙈🙈🤣🤣 they know me well😜
LOve this video! I will be cutting my long, very thick hair tomorrow!I am so excited. I also have to touch up the color at my roots. I don't color all of my hair, cuz it is thick and it would cause damage. My hair has been all one length for probably two years now, so like I said, very excited to get some really good layers in it! Thank you for such an easy layer/cut video for long, thick hair!
Thank you so much for your video! I’ve been cutting my own hair ever since the pandemic started. I used another video with the same method at first. But when I was looking for a refresher I came across your video. You explained things sooooo much better! I was able to adjust my layers and length better based on how you do yours. I have thick hair too and your version of this do-it-at-home style made it even easier to understand and do at home. Love cutting my own hair, I’ve been so much happier with how it comes out. And you are right (and for those that are leary), you really can’t mess it up! That’s how easy it is!
Thank you, was going to recheck ponytail placement, you made it easy!! 🙋♥️✝️🇺🇲 I did the wolfcut, my hair was too long and straight. I'm loving it...finally! Hairdresser said she couldn't layer it, too thin. Wrong! Now it's thick and healthy. 💇
@@KayCee1984 lol, it took me 3 days cuz i didn't want to cut too much. It was seriously so easy, being able to see it in front, since I don't have eyes 👀 in back of my head. It's the first time I ever cut my long hair, i couldn't believe I was chopping it myself. Have a great night KayCee! 💇♥️✝️🇺🇲
Whenever I get a haircut with layers at the salon I almost always end up unhappy with it. And then I'm out $80. 😭 I LOVED this tutorial! Simple and easy to understand! If I can do it with my thick, frizzy hair ANYONE can do it! Thanks!!
Oh you are very good cutting your hair and using the right products for your hair. I had no idea how much work it takes to get you hair looking very good. You seem to be a expert with hair. It really looks good when you are done.
I just tried this today of going 10 years of just a trim of one inch each year. I cut about 5 inches of my hair and omg... my waves and curls are back and feels so healthy. I didn't use any special products just my regular shampoo and conditioner. I guess now I should look into some stuff to maintain my little curls.
I did this twice already and I love my hair now! And I save myself 50.00 and a trip to the salon! I bought the scissors you recommended and they are great! Thank you so much!!
Great tips, I have thick hair too and did it in two ponytails and my front was too thick for me, this way it’s less heavy at the front. Which I like a lot.
I have been involved with hairdressers/stylists in one way or another since 1975, as well as being an artist. Even my sister has been a hairdresser for a few decades. I've been cutting my own shorter hair since before RUclips existed. Eesh. Now that sounds seasoned of me. I'm getting more confident cutting better through watching techniques from others. I've cut my current (and FAVOURITE) wife's long hair only a few times. It's that time again, so I'm BRUSHING UP. Silly (👍), or not so silly (👎) hair pun there with that 'brushing up' comment. Either way. Appreciate the vid! Lovely hair.
This is the first time I ever cut my long hair and I did it! I was looking for flaws, but it all looked the same to me and my daughter, so I will be doing this from now on!!’ Tysm! U saved me $45-60, maybe even $70, with tip! I am kinda proud of myself!!! 😅😊
OMG this video! Thank you so much! Just wanted to add that this worked great on my super long wavy hair too! I have a lot of hair but it’s very fine and has a lot of natural wave in it. I can never get stylists to cut all the layers I actually want. I am just gonna do this from now on! LOL! Hair looks exactly how I have been wanting for a long time!
I can’t believe how well this works! I cut my hair last night to this technique and wow let me just say I’m obsessed with my hair right now 😍 100% recommend this
You did such an amazing job on your haircut! I cut my hair for over a decade and I always look out for layered haircuts that will work for very thick hair. I love your style and I will definetely give it a try. Thanks a lot.💝
This is the best video in cutting your own hair and it is so pretty and your hair is so healthy. I love the layers going to try it in my hair. Thank you for sharing!!!!!
I have fine/medium 2b hair and i wasnt sure how this would turn out for me but it ended up better than i expected and it was super easy and i love that i didnt need any special type of tool or scissors to accomplish what you showed. I am also 51 BTW! Thank you so much!!
Will this technique work on thinner, wavy hair? My part is also not right down the middle. I already have layers as well. Thank you! You did an excellent job!
I can’t wait to try this tutorial your hair looks absolutely fab!! My only question is my hair is slightly shorter at the back than the front as I’m growing it out so will this even it up? Thanks ☺️
YOU ARE A LIFESAVER! Since Covid, I haven’t had a hair cut. Terrified to be around others! I absolutely love this and have done it twice! The feathering technic is the absolute best! Thank you SO MUCH! 🥰
If I have really long hair , like I have them to my waist and inch longer than waist , would it give me layers just like you ? I mean like just an inch up layers than the total length or I would get step cut layers ????
I did this for someone and it worked beautifully! It looks like a pro cut evey time if you take your time over it. Thank you so much for sharing this Emily! 🙏
Crazy great. Thank you so much. I will never pay a hairdresser to cut layers into my hair again. Your video was perfect and easy to follow thank you again!
Ooh bout to try this! Just spent 85$ on a cut the other day & cannot even tell at all as my hair is very long, but I like the layered look so I will experiment with the face layers; thankUuu
Super late to the party here 🎉🎉🎉 thank you for this super tutorial! Can’t wait to try it! Just one question, for longer layers ponytail goes closer to the forehead right? I just wanna cut a little and have longer layers while I go to the hairdresser in a few months to get a bob. Long layers would work perfect for me! Thank youuuuuu
I love love love that hair tool! Highly recommend for all hair types! I have very fine, thin, curly hair with layers and it works wonders on mine. I’m totally going to be trying this technique once my hair grows longer. Thank you for sharing! You are gorgeous btw!
Hi Emily and Steph! I landed here trying to see if I could cut my hair myself but let's say I am not really experienced and sometimes I watch tutorials that they look easy (like this amazing one) and then the result on myself is catastrophic LOL. I have exactly the same kind of hair that Steph mentions here: fine, thin, wavy (not so curly hair) and I will like to try this haircut but I am afraid to do it because my hair takes forever to grow but I am bored of not having any nice haircut just straight. So my question is, @StephFrederick? did you do it? does this haircut looks good on our kind of hair? :)
Thank you for this! I need to work on my bangs a tad more to my liking. I did it right after I watched the video with wet hair and then gave it a nice blow dry. My hair looks full and has nice layers to it. I was letting my husband cut it just in the back to do the job, but this is way more satisfying with the different layers. My hair: Length: Below chest Thickness: medium
It won't be fewer layers, it will just be further back in the hair so more toward the back of the head and not as many toward the face. Hope that makes sense.
This may be a dumb question, but at my local store the hair cutting scissors are basically the size of kid scissors and the ones I find on Amazon seem super long. Is there a scissor length recommended. I've never cut my own hair but I really want to. Can't afford to go somewhere and I want to do what's in this video....
Beautiful hair! I cut it myself but wet is easyer to me, point cutting too. In the last cut you made, I take the ends together so that they are even. I first remove the excess water with a hair dryer, and then use the Revlon to style it. I'm going to try the Morrocanoil! Sorry for my English. I speak Spanish.
I have been learning to cut my own hair since the pandemic started, and this was by far the BEST tutorial I’ve watched. Also, I have to buy that hair dryer now.
Hi there I havent gotten my hair cut or my foils well it was a year in August we are into November now. Due to covid restrictions the salon I went to closed up and I just cant even stand my hair anymore it makes me feel terrible every day. I have hair a bit past my shoulders and my hair is very thin. Just wondering if it will still turn out ok with thin hair?? I can give myself layers but the back I cant do myself. Any advice would be appreciated Thanks you☺
I did this and it worked great, although the bottom layer at the back was too thin so ended up at the hairdressers..... but when I explained the back story she was shocked as she said I'd done a great job and it looked great ❤

I’m going to try this method as well thanks for coming on this person’s RUclips page… gonna be a new subscriber based on the easy method and also because of ur comment as well
@@veronicagonzales4781 ..aww! That's sweet! And we're both named Veronica! 💞
I tried this trimming technique tonight and very pleased with the results! Thank you!
You are so welcome! Glad it turned out for you!
So glad you like how it turned out!
So glad you love it!
@@EmilyFreybler question I have very long hair and thick do I put the ponytail in front of my head if I want long layers ?
Did this and wow! Husband thought I got it cut by a professional. Thank you!
Aww I'm so glad!!!
Wow! That's amazing, I never knew cutting your own hair could be so simple & look so sleek, I'm off to try this, wish me luck 🤞🏻
OMG!!! I tried this last night and it’s truly the best my hair has ever looked😍😍😍 thank you!
You're so welcome!!
Couldn't sleep and wanted to get rid of my split ends .. wasn't sure what to do... Used this technique and I'm in love!!
I love the layers this cut has given me. Thanks. It's a better cut than iv previously had at any hairdressers
3:53 and 9:57 for ponytail placement for shorter or longer layers
Thank you, was going to recheck ponytail placement, you made it easy!! 🙋♥️✝️🇺🇲 I did the wolfcut, my hair was too long and straight. I'm loving it...finally! Hairdresser said she couldn't layer it, too thin. Wrong! Now it's thick and healthy. 💇
So glad you’re happy with your cut!
For me, definitely some trial and error cutting my own hair at home
@@KayCee1984 lol, it took me 3 days cuz i didn't want to cut too much. It was seriously so easy, being able to see it in front, since I don't have eyes 👀 in back of my head. It's the first time I ever cut my long hair, i couldn't believe I was chopping it myself. Have a great night KayCee! 💇♥️✝️🇺🇲
Love this!! Have tried this 2x over the past year and it’s the easiest tutorial for beautiful bouncy layers 🫶🏼🩷
Thank you for the instructions, I feel comfortable about cutting my hair. I trim my bangs every 2 weeks so this is the next step.
Tried this during the pandemic and still follow your video ❤
Whenever I get a haircut with layers at the salon I almost always end up unhappy with it. And then I'm out $80. 😭 I LOVED this tutorial! Simple and easy to understand! If I can do it with my thick, frizzy hair ANYONE can do it! Thanks!!
Oh you are very good cutting your hair and using the right products for your hair.
I had no idea how much work it takes to get you hair looking very good. You seem to be a expert with hair. It really looks good when you are done.
Just followed this tutorial and got the best haircut I think I’ve had in a super long time!!! Thank you!
The final result is much better than what I usually see in salons 👍😜💯 perfect technique thank you very much !!! 🙏🙏
Glad you liked it!!
And I save myself 50.00
and a trip to the salon! I bought the scissors you recommended and they are great! Thank you so much!!
That is awesome! So glad you like them!
OH MY GOSH YOU DID SO GOOD I CANT GET THE STYLIST TO UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU DID SO PERFECT
Can you do this same process with thin hair?
Not only does your hair look great your make up is impeccable.
Omg thank you! ❤ I just did this today after a year of it growing out. My hair feels soo much better!
You're so welcome! So glad you like it!
I cut my hair last night to this technique and wow let me just say I’m obsessed with my hair right now 😍 100% recommend this
I'm so glad!
You did such an amazing job on your haircut! I cut my hair for over a decade and I always look out for layered haircuts that will work for very thick hair. I love your style and I will definetely give it a try. Thanks a lot.💝
The hairstyle you made is so gorgeous! Definitely going to try it
This is the best video in cutting your own hair and it is so pretty and your hair is so healthy. I love the layers going to try it in my hair. Thank you for sharing!!!!!
You're so welcome!! So glad you found it helpful!
Love this hair cut! I’ve been cuting my hair all this year using this tutorial and ❤️❤️❤️, thanks for sharing!
OMG! I love you! You saved me from spending A LOT at the salon and my hair looks great! Thank you so so much! Liked and subscribed! 🤩
Hi Emily,
Thanks for the video.
Can you please let me know which straightener have you used , I mean the brand and the link to buy.☺️
Is this only for layers? I’m a guy with long hair. It’s up to my shoulders but it’s all one length.
Yes only for layers. You have to cut the bottom length if you want that cut.
Ooh bout to try this! Just spent 85$ on a cut the other day & cannot even tell at all as my hair is very long, but I like the layered look so I will experiment with the face layers; thankUuu
This is the easiest way to cut my own hair. Thank you for this tutorial!
It’s the best!! I hope you like it!!
Right? She looks better without makeup than I do with ha
Just tried this ! Love this technique! Looks really good and saved some money! Thank you for sharing!
Glad you like it!
My hair:
Length: Below chest
Thickness: medium
I tried this in November and I LOVED the results. Tremendous thanks to you for sharing this technique 🙏🏽🙌🏾✊🏽
You're so welcome!
Wish I could see it from the back. Does it make a rounded shape for the cut? I don't like it when the length is straight, I like a more rounded edge
Omg I did it my daughter thought I was crazy but when I was done she wanted me to do hers I had her watch the video thank you so much I needed it 🙃💗💗💗
Oh my gosh Yayy!! See it works!!
Punctuations, matter!. 😢☹️😞
Heyy
so if you do the ponytail further back, not directly in front of your forehead, will there be fewer layers? with less distance?😅☺️
I would like to know the same thing :) I actually have layers and want to get rid of the length of the hair without cutting the layers....
It won't be fewer layers, it will just be further back in the hair so more toward the back of the head and not as many toward the face. Hope that makes sense.
If you want to just remove length, do not do the pony tail method. This is strictly for layers. I would just cut from the bottom to get rid of length
This may be a dumb question, but at my local store the hair cutting scissors are basically the size of kid scissors and the ones I find on Amazon seem super long. Is there a scissor length recommended. I've never cut my own hair but I really want to. Can't afford to go somewhere and I want to do what's in this video....
probably doesn’t matter as long as it’s easy to handle for you
Beautiful hair!
Hello!! If I normally keep my hair in a side part do I have to adjust for that when cutting my hair like this?
Thank you --- I cut my hair using your instructions yesterday - and it turned out beautiful.
I have been learning to cut my own hair since the pandemic started, and this was by far the BEST tutorial I’ve watched. Also, I have to buy that hair dryer now.
Aww yayy!!
This technique worked! I was a little apprehensive, but it looks better than when I have went to most salons. Thanks!
I'm so glad!
Any advice would be appreciated Thanks you☺
Can I use thinner scissors to do the point cut part with the three sections?
Does this work if your hair is thin?
I did this and it worked great, although the bottom layer at the back was too thin so ended up at the hairdressers..... but when I explained the back story she was shocked as she said I'd done a great job and it looked great ❤
u have save me money on getting my hair cut. specially with these hard times and money being strapped from the price gouging going on.i just bleached my hair and fried my ends been afraid to enjoy my bleached hair bc the ends . I tried this out. I was scared at first but my hair turned out great. it looks healthy! I will keep doing this for now on.
About to try this!! Also, what lip color/product are you wearing?? It’s gorgeous.
I love this tutorial! Your hair looks amazing! One question - When you trim the length, does the back of the hair stay a lot longer than the front? (Like a V?) I'm paranoid about trying to cut the back, but maybe it's not necessary?
I tried this cut and LOVE it! I refer back to this video every time I cut my hair! Thank you for saving tons of money and anxiety (I have C-PTSD) from going to a hairdresser ❤
LOVED the way my hair turned out!!! THANK YOU for sharing your technique!!! Amazing, easy to follow video and even better results!!! I have very thick, straight hair and was worried the layers would look choppy but they’re PERFECT!! You just saved me sooooo much money!! Thank you!!🙌🏻😁
So glad you liked it!!
This is my favorite hairstyle of all the hairstyle videos!
