This petticoat is adorable.
Love that scene and the Anne of Green Gables series.
It came out beautifully! Great tip on the ruffle making! Oliver is SUCH a good helper cat!
That dress is so lovely. I would wear that everywhere. I am so excited to see you create it
Every time I watch one of your videos I say this outloud -"She is just SO Talented!!" Thank You for continuing to share what you obviously Love doing!
Thank you! I'm so glad you're enjoying them!
This is an amazing sewing tutorial. I’m very excited to see part 2 👏👏
Coming soon!
I just found your video. Thank you for doing this! I have both of the books in your video and I too was intimidated by creating a pattern and making that beautiful gown. Your trailblazing has given me courage to give it a go!
I'm so happy to hear that! Good luck with your project!
I was at the charity store earlier. There was a crinoline for a wedding dress. Someone had made this with the narrow hem and had sewn on plastic boning to add shape to the bottom, along with the usual netting. I have not seen this before, thought that was a great finish. Just thought I would pass this along.....
Love the petticoat, under pinning of all sorts seem to be my thing. And the machine ruffles are just the thing! Love the fabric too
I somehow missed this video when it came out, so I’m here from the second part. I’m midway through my own five gore, unpleated petticoat and trumpet skirt, so it’s very timely.
What perfect timing! I hope your project goes well!
I empathise with the cat and sewing room situation so much
Hahaha! I usually sew in an off-site studio but I've been working from home because of the quarantine. I had forgotten how much those little devils interrupt my sewing!
As do I- my pfp is actually my cat snuggling up in some fabric that I’m trying to sew, with the sewing machine right behind her. It’s a common problem, as my sewing desk/table is out in the loungeroom. There’s no way to lock her out.
Carrots! How did I miss this?!? Aww, so happy to see this. I remember you asked about the ruffle cheat/technique on IG, and being as I know nothing, had no clue. I just love your gorgeous sparkles, and sewing projects come to life. Oh, and young Lord Oliver too! Such a treat to see him causing a commotion. Thanks for sharing your craft & artistry with us. 💜
I'm so glad you enjoyed it ❤️
i love to see your process in making things. it looks like my process and i also can't math! thank you for sharing this. i love watching you
I'm so glad you enjoyed it ❤️
I don’t personally want to wear much Edwardian. But I can’t wait to see you building up the quintessential Edwardian outfit. This was a great video. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much!
I knew "White Sands" had to be connected to Anne-with-an-e! Looking forward to this project.
hhaha "excellent cat trap"! Thank you for sharing the cheat tip about getting quick ruffles... I'm shocked that I never knew about this! I've been doing the hard way of manually pulling threads to gather the fabric ugh
I did that for years and then just kind of accidentally stumbled on this method after seeing someone do something similar with a special foot and an antique featherweight machine. I was so excited when it worked on my modern machine!
Hooray! Audio fixed! I was watching when you took it down, earlier. I’m so glad you put it back up. Even with the wonky audio, I was really enjoying it! Thank you for sharing, and this petticoat is beautiful. I can’t wait to see the dress!
That will teach me to publish without previewing 😁. Thanks for sticking with it!
Wow! I cannot wait to see the next parts! Thank you for sharing!
More to come!
Yay! Anne of Green Gables project! I can't wait to see it come together.
Ok, I need this under my Abayas. It makes the whole dress sit better and it looks nice on it's own too...
A good petticoat makes whatever it is worn under look so much better! It gives a wonderful fullness to a skirt and makes the fabric hang better!
I love how it turned out.
Thank you!
I don’t know why but I really enjoy making petticoats, but the really nice ones need mock ups and for whatever reason, as long as there’s nothing horribly wrong with it I’ll keep the mock ups I like and just use them as petticoats underneath my nice petticoats. I just can’t bear to get rid of them, and they’re in the right shape anyways so it’s not like it’ll harm the silhouette
I was so disappointed when the (last?) video went private, thank you for uploading!
There was an error with the sound that I only caught about two minutes after I uploaded, so I had to do some fixing 😂
Dames a la Mode really glad you did 🥰🥰🥰
That is such a beautiful illustration. This is going to be fun project to watch!
OMG that illustration in that book is beautiful and making it a reality is amazing. Can't wait for the rest.
I went wow at the instant ruffles. Good trick for ruffling.
She has the best costume illustrations! I just love her style!
I love that you're calling it your "White Sands Dress!" It looks great so far!
Thanks so much!
Oh, how pretty! I love the smooth lines of the petticoat and the ruffle/insertion lace. Can't wait to see how the rest of the dress turns out as Anne of Green Gables is one of my all time favorites. Thank you so much for sharing!
You're so welcome! Glad you enjoyed it!
This grading paper is amazing!
It's one of the best sewing tools out there as far as I'm concerned!
Dames a la Mode after quite a bit of searching I can’t find it for a decent price in Canada :(
@@misswazzra Have you tried wrapping paper? Some brands have gridlines printed on the back. That will work for the pattern scaling, you'd have to transfer the markings to your toilet fabric.
it's so lovely and moves really well
I got a first edition of the Nancy Bradfield book from my local library for £1. Not sure how it happened but I can only imagine they had no idea what it was they had 😂
I'm also here from part two: I must've not been in a video mood when this first part came out. I am so excited to see your interpretation of one of these dresses! I always feel like when I see them recreated, they usually look very big and bulky à la 1980s fashion proportions whereas in contemporary fashion plates and photos they look much more proportionally elegant. I always wonder why that is, if it is a change in the way they've been recreated or if it is just a matter of my own perception. Excited to see how you go about it and I love the name you have chosen for it!
I think proportion on Edwardian garments is really critical and *very very very* different to our modern brains, so you have to be really careful about getting everything right. I also think having really big hair/hats is a key part of that proportion and if don't go big enough the dress looks like it is consuming you! I'll have to make sure I get the styling right on this one!
Very elegant petticoat! I love it! And your eyeball method for enlarging and adapting patterns reconciliates me with those books! :D
Thank you!
Lovely! ♥️ I just bought some cotton organdy and now I can't wait to get started on a petticoat!
It's a fabulous petticoat fabric!
I envy anyone that can draft their own pattern using maths. Looking forward to seeing the final dress.
Well this is my first try and it went pretty well, so I think it's possible for anyone to do it with some trial and error! Not quite ready to attempt a bodice, but a skirt was a good start!
Ooooh how exciting! I love Anne of green gables. I would love to make myself a full Edwardian wardrobe. I started in my 20’s but fizzled out with it over time. I look forward to your projects ❤️😁
Me too - the most important book from my childhood!
Dames a la Mode mine too. I have the dvds that Kevin Sullivan made with Megan follows. I have almost worn them out. Lol
THEMAYQUEEN1 You can stream that version of Anne of Green Gables on GazeboTV. It’s awesome!
I can relate with the math part
Fascinating! Loved the image you're working to! Good luck! Can't wait to see the next pieces - thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
This was great! I just got the same Janet Arnold book in the mail a few weeks ago. I am so excited to see how you transfer the pattern in it. Math scares me too lol.
It's a really great book! Definitely one of my favorites!
AAAA math, it looks lovely!
A very excellent cat trap
My cat eats tape too! Such a weird thing. Mine likes the adhesive, which just boggles my mind.
Usually she just licks plastic bags...why are cats so weird?!
ugh, math!!
i am going to try that gathering technique.
Works like a charm!
I love it!!!
Thank you! Can't wait to wear them together!
😍😍😍
That was great! I definitely learned some neat things and enjoyed watching. Also, my old cat used to like to eat tape too 😂 what’s up with that?!
Cats are so weird haha! Glad you enjoyed the video!
is "patterns of fashion" only available in inch-measurments, or is there a european version where they have cm? it would be a pain in the ass to work with patterns in inches and always having to order the gridded paper from the us
Great yo see you working! Where do you buy the pattern paper?
Amazon! There is a link to it in the video details.
I'm intrigued. Do you happen to know the name of this magical pattern paper?
Pellon tru-grid. There's a link in the video notes.
yep, that's a "pet-I-caught"
😹😹😹
Turrns out "organdy" means "Organza" in German... But it does not refer to the same type of fabric (as far as I know). German Organza is this super lightweight, see through, often polyester stuff used for tacky curtains, while your "organdy" obviously refers to a beautiful woven, stiff but only kind of see-through fabric you used. I need your type of organdy. What now?
Unfortunately I can't make any recommendations about German fabric sourcing, but perhaps another commenter will see this and chime in.
11:52 what is is a cheat but a technique by another name :P
I like the way you think!
