MusicWorks - Level 1
Beginning groups will love this unique programmatic suite of four short movements, each of which portrays a well known prehistoric creature (or two!). Clever and very easy, it includes: Stegosaurus, Brontosaurus, Pteradactyls and The Battle (Tyrannosaurus and Triceratops). A really different work at this level! Originally published in 1987.

Movement 1: Trumpets-"Yay loud part!" Movement 2: Low brass/woodwinds-"Gliss for the win!" Movement 3: Everyone-"Wait... What measure are we on??" Movement 4: High brass and wood winds *Plays the first part of the song completely flat then the second sharp and the others play regular and the song get messed up*

my band cut out pterodactyl for some odd reason, but left the other 3 in
I liked the Brontosaurus most (I play trombone) and I liked doing the slide from G to B flat.
My band director told the trombone player "Now you can do what most brass players dream of - be loud and obnoxious!" (The trombone player was being very quiet). That was my favorite part of Brontosaurus.

I played this in 5th grade and loved it. Coming back to it now I am full of nostalgia
God this brings back a flood of memories because in 6th grade my band classmates and I played this with our heart and s o u l.
I remember LOVING every minute of playing together and we just bonded so much over this one piece of music. I also remember when we stepped out to the concert we were going to play this for and it was amazing just being able to do this. It's magical how many memories you can make from music.

Movement 3 is probably my favorite to play since I play the clarinet. While on the other hand, movement 2 is probably my most favorite to hear!

I played this in 6th grade and my favorite was movement 1, movement 4 was just kinda weird, all I had was quarter notes, movement 3 was very difficult for every one and movement 2 was just really easy

I really love these pieces. As a flutist, my favorite is movement three. Although my science-based brain is screaming. Here are my edited titles:
Stegosaurus- The Gladiator (This is fine
Apatosaurus- Kills you because you annoyed it (Like with mosquitos. And although brontosaurus is a dinosaur again, it wasn’t at the time when this piece was written)
Pterosaur- We’re exactly the right size to be swallowed whole (Pterodactyl doesn’t exist, the biggest pterosaurs had a throat about the width of a man’s shoulders)
Relatively Peaceful Coexistance- Tyrannosaurus and Triceratops (Because both animals would get seriously wounded in such a confrontation, one on one battles between the two would likely only happen in times of famine)

I play Alto Sax and I'm fine with any pieces fast or slow as long as I'm not just doing whole and half notes :/ but my band is playing this and our brass section is totally screwing up on the 3rd movement..like they can't count 1..2..3..
Don't worry about that. I'm totally fine with this piece and can already play the whole thing properly. but my band doesn't count at all. The music teacher has to count for them or otherwise they can't do anything.

I remember playing this in band a few years ago and oh my god the memories. My favorite movement was 2 because of the awesome trombone glissando that I got to play. A few days ago we got to vote on which piece we could play from the past few years and NOBODY picked this piece. I'm super sad because I love this piece and I couldn't find my old sheet music from it, sadly. I'm planning to ask my band teacher for a copy.
*I'm the only flute player in my large school band, but I'm still really glad that it is still being taught today :D*
