MusicWorks - Grade 1
Written in a style similar to Michael's popular Celtic Air and Dance, here is another terrific setting of Celtic tunes arranged for very young bands. This arrangement opens with a beautiful and flowing version of the familiar air Danny Boy. The setting concludes with the lively Star of the County Down featuring the percussion section and a dance-like melody.

Now this is the best band song I have ever played for 7th grade

We played this for honors band- over 100 kids. It was the best band some I have ever heard. The way we crescendoed and our balance made it sound even better then this video recording.

I still get goosebumps! We played this song for a competition, and as a flute first chair I lead my section with my second chair, who is my best friend. I still listen to this song. BTW trumpets!!! The BWA BWA eighth notes can ALWAYS BE LOUDER! Also for anyone who doesn't know that story behind this song.
Danny is going to war, and his parents write him a letter saying like "Whatever happens we're here for you, we love you, we know you'll do your best and serve Ireland well." Anyways the speedy part if going into war, and the flute section is Danny remembering his parents in family. The lowbrass part with trumpet is the war going into full swing. The BWA BWA eighth notes by trumpet are the enemy team getting the advantage. The very end is Danny lying in the medical tent, seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. This story and song always gives me hope for the future.

This was my favorite song in my freshman year. Sadly we didn't have a lot of people I mean 11 players aren't a lot not to mention 5 where percussion 2 clarinets including me and 1 trumpet 1 baritone and finally 1 saxophone. But we pulled it off for our contest, festival and concert along with the graduation of 2017. Good job to the guy who wrote this song I love it so much.

played this in 7th grade, then didnt hear it again for years. just heard the band warming up to it in the other room, and recognized it when they hit the second part. the nostalgia hit lined up with the climax and it gave me chills.

I agree 100%. I also play alto. love it when the trumpets come in, it makes my body feel as if it is filled with a bursting energy that is unstoppable. I also like it when the altos lead the trumpets.

My band played this last year and I recently looked back at my sheet music, this song gives me a bittersweet feeling because it was the last song we played with our (now retired) conductor (i did indeed tear up midsong) but it also a ancient artifact of how far I've come since then and how bad I am at the trombone- I thought a G was high..... like the G in the top space...

The French Horn is actually the instrument that holds the song up gives the music it’s fullness. Without it the band would sound empty.
