It can save a fortune and also a lot easier to do. A lot of songs that have been successful are either cover versions of older songs or have been written by someone else. Preemo flipped it so well. If you’ve not already seen it, check his So Wassup series where he discussed it. His original Bob James record he sampled was badly water damaged and he was meaning to buy another copy to use for the finished track. He actually liked how it sounded on the damaged version and used that one.

The Sugarhill Gang's "Rappers' Delight" is not sampled, yes it's the Chic's Bernard Edward's Bassline from "Good Times" song, but the bass in "Rapper's Delight' was played live by a bass player in the recording studio.
Chip Shearin played the bass line on the recording of "Rapper's Delight" by Sugarhill Gang. Shearin was 17 years old at the time.
Other personnel on "Rapper's Delight" include:
Michael "Wonder Mike" Wright - vocals
Curtis "Grandmaster Caz" Brown - writer
Henry "Big Bank Hank" Jackson - vocals
Guy "Master Gee" O'Brien - vocals
Bernard Roland or Chip Shearin - electric bass
Albert Pittman or Brian Morgan - electric guitar
    Moncy Smith - piano
    Bryan Horton - drums

    • @DJFurio

    • @DJFurio

That’s exactly what a replayed sample is. An interpolated sample of the original that’s been replayed to sound like it. 100% what it is. Many, many records list interpolated samples on the credits and have to pay for the publishing rights to use it. Check your facts
