Prodigy said chemistry on the beat On that incredible track basics off of the Tony touch album. My guess is that was his production name early on after he was doing the whooligans thing with Scott caan
Al made a sampling masterclass with Aulart recently. I won't spoil everything, but one thing he does is he has a drum beat playing from his MPC while he searches for melodic samples.
This is why producers need hardware. I highly advocate an mpc or roland to producers who don't have one. Something with like a minute sample time, separates boys from men
@@ConnieVeenuhs Roland Sp 404 and the Mpc 2000 together GOES CRAZY, thats what you should start with. My favorite hardware: Roland Sp 505(the best lofi machine on the planet quiet as kept), ASR 10, Roland Sp 303 midi'ed to my Roland groovebox 202 for bass sounds (made popular by madlib) and if you have some shmoney, the sp1200 is the greatest of all time but its worth $3000 but id say its worth it. Lastly, J dilla made alot of his classics on the mpc 3000.
I’ve always done that. Make a drum beat, go thru vinyl until something sounds ok with the drums. Then chop the sample. It makes things go much quicker when making a beat.
Man Return of the Mac was my shit. It came out in high school and crazy thing is it was a mixtape. We all just listened to mixtapes back then because they were all better than the mainstream albums. That tape was supposed to be the appetizer for the album. Ended up being WAY better than the album lol. I miss that era a bit but I’m just glad dudes went back to making great albums.
Stop fronting is such a solid instrumental. There's so much bounce to it, all of it is just so good. Floating from one bop to another, it's honestly my favorite instrumental to bump when I'm walking
It’s a nod to Da Beatminerz who flipped that sample like 10 years prior on Black Moon - I got cha opin remix. The hook on that track is “don’t front, you know I got cha opin”, hence Prodigy naming his track “stop fronting”.
This man is a legend and definitely in my forever top 5 of hip hop producers. What I love about him most is his versatility and growth through the decades. From Mobb Deep, The Lox on up to Larry June and Freddie Gibbs. He deserves all his flowers!🔥🔥🔥💕💕💐💐💐💐
Return of the Mac will always be one of my favorite albums of all time. It's a full theme album like a movie back when everything was club bangers. Plus Prodigy. Classic.
It seems like he knocks out a whole album in a week. It also seems like afterwards some of the artists are going down the street to make some tracks with Muggs. I like the music camp formula, it would be so dope if he would invite producers also and have three studios going. Imagine getting a Method Man album produced by Havoc, Alchemist and Premo!
I never thought that beat was that impressive since that BW had already been rocked by so many people including Buckshot and BDK. I prefer the more obscure samples he uses. I really wish Prodigy had a chance to stick around longer. He was always one of my favorites. He walked that fine line in Hip-Hop btw Philosopher, Poet, and Thug. Respect In Progress.
Yo Navie, dope video as usual. Let’s not forget Alchemists latest works; dude is STILL killin it That new album he did with Larry June “The Great Escape” is amazing
Serato Sample made these kind of collages much easier, since it's so easy to get samples from different sources into tune without compromising the original quality of the sample too much.
I'm after that dope pen man and blue edition too! Real nice work here, great break down and in depth knowledge sharing of a transition in The Alchemists productions.
I agree re the collage. I think Pete Rock or the Bomb Squad were the first to use the collage approach but the Alchemist definitely put his own spin on this!
I watched that interview and feel like I need to rewatch it. So many great producers inspired me. I love how u use serato sampler and fl studio those are 2 of my main tools great videos.
There is another interesting aspect. The first 2 chops of the "stop fronting" beat are from a well known sample. After hearing the first chop for several times, people wait for the second chop. Finally he reveals the 2nd chop, but not as expected as he uses only a short part while adding some more sounds. A great way to play with the expectations of the listeners..
Nuro feedback, my friend. I was also illiterate for half my life. I have ADHD. But let me tell you Nuro feedback changed everything brother. It’s expensive but it’s worth it. I had 80 sessions. But results came around 40.
Love ur content! The Stop Fromtin was not a new beat when this was released.. its a slightly tweaked version of Black Moon’s classic “I gotcha Opin”.. so the foundation was already there. Perhaps it was a homage to Beatminerz?
He’s paying homage to black moon on stop fronting and how they sampled the same loop on their 93 classic i gotcha opin remix, with a little extra. That makes it his own.
Wow, I recognize every sample in "Stop Fronting" from other classic songs. Black Moon - I Got Cha Opin (Beatminerz Remix) The Diplomats - Real Niggas Big L - How Will I Make It He must've been nodding at these songs by picking these samples haha, he even uses the same sections
Alchemist has been producing for a while; I thought he was overrated UNTIL Freddie Gibbs and Cormega “Glorious” song. He immediately catapulted out of the “Overrated” terrain. I don’t know what engineer or mixer he game across, but the improvement in the sonics of his track took his beats to an elite level. I almost thought Dr. Dre mixed his shit it sounded so good!
Eddie Sancho is the guy who mixes many if not all of ALC's beats. Infact he's a Longtime engineer for ALC, if anything Sancho improved or found the sweet spot for mixing ALC's beats. And I know exactly what you mean about the sonics of his music, I've noticed the change over the years being a huge ALC fan since like 2001.
You are incredibly informative and have a fantastic presentation, with a good sense of humor to top it off. Nothing to do with beat making, but I think your barber went a little too high with the fade.
I produce music and the alchemists was one of my favorite producers I would study. I worked at a car wash when I was 17. My boss played nothing but the 80s. One day “weird science” composed by Danny Elfman or his band “Oingo Boingo” and Alchemsit chopped up 2 parts of that entire song snd made “Got it Twisted” by Mobb Deep. Go listen to “weird science” and see if you can find it!
THE SAMPLE ''The O'jays cry together'' was used to make 9th Wonder beat ' cry ' { check it out) ......the alchemist and 9th wonder are what got me in to making rap beats
The true change that made AlC legendary beats = if the pitched voice say Stuck on you or Gateway or Bang Bang (Big noyd classic shit) you must rap about it & His sample sometime are so good chop & so Digg that no need beats !!!
he became such a legend... he became The Alchemical
lmfao
Have we got it wrong this whole time? That’s a fucced up Mandela effect lol
Prodigy said chemistry on the beat On that incredible track basics off of the Tony touch album. My guess is that was his production name early on after he was doing the whooligans thing with Scott caan
Even though my beats sound nothing like his, Alchemist has been one of my biggest influences and inspirations for beat making
Maybe you have moved passed the imitation stage, and now are becoming your own producer
@@NavieD Perhaps... still got a long way to go tho. Dope breakdown man!
Same same! All his álbuns have been on repeat lately
@@NavieDahah I'm still on the emulation phase eheh
trent reznor is like that for me, i don’t make NIN type tracks but huge influence

could you recommend any specifically ? I've been in the market for a while but I just have absolutely no idea which to get@@theybeonbody1309

Alc is a G. He's been in a hell of a run the past few years especially. The records with Armand Hammer, Boldy James, and the others are all sick af
him and boldy are a dream team, they complement each other so well
Idk any of those artists
Are they hipster rappers?? Most people al produces for are hipsters apart from bbb
@@T10_Ehe doesn’t work with jcole so no
🔥🔥🔥🔥 he definitely has top notch chemistry with Boldy James

every time i learn about Alchemist i realise hes even more advanced than i think - surely a top 5 producer now?
Return of the Mac will always be one of my favorite albums of all time. It's a full theme album like a movie back when everything was club bangers. Plus Prodigy. Classic.
That last beat literally blew my mind. Help is on the way but I will never be the same after hearing that
1st infantry is still a classic, marathon is still his top 3 productions of all time, nuts!
Alchemical is one the greatest
You should do a Madlib or Black Milk video. 2 top notch producer's that get slept on in my opinion.
Black Milk is seriously under the radar, I hardly ever hear him get brought up
it's a great album and i really enjoyed the production of that album. RIP Prodigy!
Stoupe the enemy of mankind deserves one of these breakdowns. He’s my favorite beat maker.
Always teaching us with awesome content. Much luv from Brasil Navie!
Alchemist blows my mind with those instrumentals. Absolute Genius.
Alchemist is the G.O.A.T.
R.I.P. Prodigy
Return of the Mac has been in my top 20 favorite albums for years and years . Cool video
I love how you reverse engineer songs and explain the fundamentals of beats. Great content!
typo in the title btw. It says The Alchemical, not Alchemist. Great video as always though
I already loved his production prior to. So when they had a full project I swear, I still bump it till this day. This one belongs in the Smithsonian.
really cool to see the history of somebody lie kalchemist and breaking down the beat it self is an important part to me
I hope the vid was interesting
Uncle AL..Hands down my favorite producer!!
return of the mac is a classic & prodigy is my favorite rapper. i appreciated this video. 💯

This is one of my favorite albums ever …I jus found your channel glad I did …
I remember my uncle coming home with this album, and I remember buying ringtones of this 😂

Thanks for the pen bro.
It definitely worked and wasn't half out of ink.
Return of the Mac got so many spins in a few of my cars still a top 5
Interesting and informative, Navie. That collab with you and Weaver was dope too!
Serato Sample made these kind of collages much easier, since it's so easy to get samples from different sources into tune without compromising the original quality of the sample too much.
He's my model too, I love his beats.
I just watched like 10 of ur videos by far my favorite beat channel on youtube thank you!!!
I remember first time hearing Keys to the City w/ Prodigy, knew this dude was a legend from that moment
blessed to have return of the mac signed by Al
Alchemist is a dope producer. He's better than 99% of the 🗑 Hip Hop producers who are out today. Been listening to his music since the 90s 👊🏿
Hip hop to the beat and you just don’t stop! Hippidy hop hippidy hop smh lol hip hop
Just call it rap

That Return of the Mack is a classic. RIP Prodigy
You killed it as usual
Dope video! First video from you but certainly not the last!
oh man this is super inspiring. gotta get more into alc
This gave me a lot of insight on how to get creative with samples and even layer them. Thanks my guy!
Great breakdown Navie, would love to see some diving into his newer productions as well!

You mean the "Dramatics - In the Rain" sample?
The best. Hands down.
the alchemical
I thought the sample at 6:20 sounder familiar. It was also used in AZ - Mo Money Mo Murder (Ft. Nas)

This new content You have been putting out is amazing. Such pity You wont be able to know this because of illiteracy.
Great breakdown
also you should make a video of j dilla don't cry instrumental he chopped the kicked and the snares with the melody and placed anywhere
THE ALCHEMICAL

Dear MR Navie D, i neeed that pen to write things😭😭
I need it more! How else will I draw butterflies
