  • The Dave Chappelle vs Andrew Schulz beef started on episode 1647 of JRE, where Dave Chappelle and Joe Rogan were discussing the difference between when they came up through the comedy scene compared to now, and Chappelle made comments about Andrew Schulz's style of comedy on social media.

I think Chapelle, and old school comedians in general, don’t like people with unearned arrogance. Comedians of that era and before believe you have struggle for a W (and to be funny).
Schultz is an emperor without a robe, Chapelle is Marcus Aurelius.
Also that Indian ‘comedian’ (forgot his name even though I just watched the video) is a sycophantic clown and is also not funny.

Cause that's what these LA comics do now. Andrew would only take offense if he feels guilty. He don't even write his own jokes. He was paying multiple people like Whitney Cummings to write for him. Rogan isn't funny on stage at all. He never was. He's known for podcasting not his comedy and Shultz isn't funny either and is a typical LA snake. Funny how Joe is defending Shultz like he's his son. I don't like Shultz at all. His personality or his stand up. He's using Chappelle dissing his style of comedy for content? What a fool.

I don’t think the problem for someone like Schulz is that he actually thought Dave was insulting, I think the problem is +-50% of the audience thought that.
A big part of his audience and even “peers” thinking Dave dissed him real good, is plenty enough to piss off insecure Schulz.
Even if he himself wasnt offended by Chappelle’s words, he just can’t handle people thinking he got got.

@@markperkins9445 exactly mate. It feels to me that stand up comedy was still pretty underground in the nineties. Apart from the Just For Laughs Festival, a few Def Jam shows and the odd special, you would rarely see standup on TV. You had to seek it out, rent the VHS, buy the pay per view. The bar for entry was much higher, which also meant that you didn’t see so many mediocre comedians.

All Chappelle said was he's not interested in that particular art form, that it doesn't resonate with him -- he likes the feel of stand up. He wasn't judging Andrew Shhulz and he recognizes that it's a whole new ball game so he's saying of course I wouldn't be into that, I'm an old dog and I'm not looking for new tricks. That's literally ALL he said. Sometimes I think we as millenials can't take a single word that isn't "AWESOMEEEEEE -- you're doing great bud" -- I think Shulz got caught up in the comment sections and obviously you want someone to like Chappelle to say something give a good word on you and he just didn't. In truth Chappell said NOTHING about Schulz, he just commented on the art form. Chill out

That rapid fire Netflix crap that Schulz did was horrible. Joe was trying to give him props, put him on Dave’s radar. Dave’s probably heard Joe’s crappy referrals for years now and thought “Oh yeah, he’s good? Okay 👍🏽 “. One annoying thing about these podcast comedians is that they create these little bubbles for themselves where they just constantly stroke their own egos. Hearing someone doesn’t like them, they’ll just brush it off like “He’s broke, he’s jealous”. They can’t do that with Dave. The fact chappelle even gives these clowns the time of day is beyond me. Chappelle is the only comedy special I’ve ever watched all the way through and it amazes me how he’s able to weave in insightful and profound thoughts throughout an entire show while also being hilarious on the way. He’s in a class of his own. Obviously Rogans “stand up” is just a bizarre delusion we all have to participate in and Schulz is just an average, run of the mill, dime a dozen comedian who occasionally lands the most generic joke known to man.

There’s 2 styles of comedy that if you take to full extremes end up not being funny - bits and crowdwork. If you rely only on crowd work (Shulz and a lot if internet comedians) it ends up not being that funny, and your chances of bombing dramatically increase. The other is over engineering bits. Someone like Joe Rogan who spends hours meticulously “crafting” a bit, it sucks the natural funny out of it.

So a good comedian writes his bits, and doesn't just focus on crowd work. A good comedian also doesn't write his bits for too long or they won't be funny. AND a good comedian should write hilarious jokes in that small window of joke writing, before the joke is not funny to the crowd. Also a crowd is full of comedy professionals that k ow more than the person on stage so the comedian has to deliver the absolute best or they'll be angry and not have good internet opinions.
Why do fans suck so much? Can't you just enjoy the content as a member of the audience, and not yelp review everything you engage with?

I don't think this should have gone any further than, "Hey, Joe Rogan brought me up to Dave Chappelle. Crazy, right?" Move on, bro lol

Schulz claiming he's not a RUclipsr is the funniest thing he said. Look at his recent five guests on his podcast

The line "what's all that doodoo on your face" is a better punchline, joke, delivery and catchier than anything most of these podcaster/crowdworking people have ever ever done, cumulatively

This isn’t where the beef started. It started when Chappelle dropped that video where he told people to boycott Chappelle show until they pay him. In that video he talked about when he started doing standup and mentioned that he was great from the beginning. Schulz saw it and reacted to it and basically called a baby for wanting to get paid for Chappelle show being on hbo and Netflix and also threw shade for calling himself the goat

8:56 No, he's saying he didn't make it through standup, but neither is Dave, so Daves' dismissal is out of place.
