Now everyone has an opinion about what his show is suppose to be, and how it falls short of all their imaginary goals.

It is very strange when a stand-up comedian tells his audience that they don't know what funny is, and in the same breath turn around and start berating their fans! Telling them that their life is going nowhere! Their families will suffer because they're never going to be anybody! Telling these people the reason they're always going to be poor is because they're not smart enough to get a whole bunch of dumb people to send them money! They're always going to look at their audience as a bunch of poor losers! I believe in Tom's eyes, he has zero respect for his audience, and everyday he plots and schemes on a different way to monetize the poor's, trying everything in his power to somehow get another dollar out of them! Because that's all the fans are to him. Someone to take advantage of! When you see these guys and they're selling merch, there's a reason why there's such a vast difference between their cheapest and they're most expensive merch. The price starts at $5 and goes to 1,000. In their mind, buying a ticket for their show, and paying monthly for the membership to the podcast, that's just not enough! If you got $10 in your pocket. I think he’s managed to remain somewhat grounded, which he had the experience of “getting cancelled” before having any mainstream success, and in spite of that, managed to keep grinding & working on his comedy & having a podcast audience that didn’t give a shit about any of that nonsense. Having the rug pulled out from under him in that way had to be oddly humbling. It could make a performer keep themselves a bit in check by continuing to grow the fanbase organically, which is the harder road to having success, but better far a career in the long run. Like the theme of this video, we see what’s happening for those who have the quicker rise in popularity, as the over exposure leads to burning out, as the need to keep putting out content at a pace that’s not sustainable messes with the process of developing new ideas & material. He’s very aware of those pitfalls, as they are happening all around him.

People in the newsroom recognized me. I was called by a movie studio (who was involved in the story) wanting to know how I got the info. All this is incredibly small beans (the television interview was on local cable). Yet for several days afterward, I felt like I was on an ego drug. I felt like Ken in "Barbie" when people in the real world paid attention to him. And I suspect, from that example, that the Mr. Beast Effect had the same result on those small RUclipsrs. And you have to appreciate the sudden recognition, but never assume that it'll last forever, or that their passing judgment on you.

I was surprised to find out he was a standup comedian back in the day… I thought he was fear factor dude and then in ufc announcing and his podcast…but his standup is not my bag….obviously he’s got fans, hell Brendan Schaub sold out theatres because of Rogan fans
I've been an MSSP Patreon member since before the pandemic (I found him on RAP and loved that he bullied Louis while always being the funniest dude at the table, and I was even on a DAWG rollcall because that's how small the Patreon was back then), and I think you're spot on with Shane being self-aware enough and staying himself despite the bump he got from Rogan (and to a lesser extent, Barstool) not long after he started blowing up from his first few Rogan appearances. Aside from the settings of the stories and anecdotes and how famous the people that he includes in them, he's still the same dude that's still into the same things he was before and he still keeps his Philly guys around pretty much everywhere he goes, and even if he did start to become Bobby Bigshot they're his stopgap to keep him in check and would call him out for it. Unfortunately, because of the influx of Brogan and Barstool fans, the Patreon comment section has become filled with insufferable Reddit tier dorks who think repeating the same handful of jokes over and over equals comedy, but inshallah, once the comedy and massive podcast bubble burst I'm sure the worst of the bandwagoners will drop off. In the meantime, there are still a solid bunch of Philly based podcasts that are comedically right there with MSSP and despite having 2kish or less Patrons (WAR MODE excluded), they're still all 100x funnier than any of the Papa Rogan Dckrider podcasts.
Chappelle requesting that you repeat a joke for him, is like Jordan asking you to show him that "fade away" jumper, or Chef Ramsey asking you to cook for him.. i would retire after that night if i was Shane lol
He also has non-friends. Many of his friends are on because they already had big audience before. I agree with anyone who says Schaub is not a good comedian. However, Theo, Cummings, Hinchliffe, Kreisher, Segura, etc are all funny. They all have audiences without JRE. I don't like all of them, but there is support for them. To even have Chappelle in this video denies how great Dave is. JRE didn't make DC; DC helped make JRE what it is. Plus JRE is not simply comedians. I love the array of people and topics he covers. He really just gets interesting people on with good stories.
@@bambilackner I don't think Katt even has any specific people in mind and that was just a random number because some comedians that have come on there either just didn't work out or isn't a niche thing that most people don't like. Schaub is a great example of an actually not funny comic that Joe has pushed. Like objectively, he's just not funny. All the other people really are just subjective based on your overall tastes or if you just don't like Joe Rogan, then you'll likely have some ire with most people he pushes. Though, honestly, I think it's weird that this channel implied that Rogan is like Hollywood 2.0 telling people what they should like or watch. Like, I mean, of course Joe is going to tell you to go watch his friends and people he likes when you're watch his podcast. Like...of courese he's biased. I don't understand...if you don't like his podcast, you wouldn't be watching it. And you wouldn't be told "what to do". Cause...that's not what he's doing...I feel like people that don't like Rogan are mad that people who do enjoy the comics he also likes...Schaub being the odd one out really. Like, they're mad these comics have careers becuase they're not fans of them. I don't...ok. Then, we're gonna use Twitter comments as a barometer of proof they're not popular? Ok...sure. Whatever, man.

Tom is going to try and get you to spend 5 out of your last 10! At the end of the day you're just a bunch of ungrateful losers! You should consider yourself lucky that he's even letting you hear his comedy genius! Now pay up!
I think money absolutely can change people, in that how you got that money changes people. It could make a performer keep themselves a bit in check by continuing to grow the fanbase organically, which is the harder road to having success, but better far a career in the long run.
