    I have to thank you for your patterns and videos. I saw this beautiful afghan and sent it to my daughter (now a married professional). She had learned the basic stitches from me and had made a box & lid from a beginner pattern. Your videos gave her so much confidence she began this pattern as her first “real project” (telling me after she started it). She is starting her second section of the lace stitches today. I am amazed at her progress. She works on it daily and tells me it helps her feel relaxed after work.
    I learned of your site from a long-time friend of yours - I can’t say who because I haven’t asked his permission. In a returned business call, I mentioned to him I was knitting at that moment, explaining I had learned to crochet from my elderly grandmother when I was very young, literally sitting on the floor at her knee. He told me to check out your site & videos, that I would love your patterns. I did and he was right. I sent this Afghan pattern to my daughter for long term encouragement, I thought. But she surprised me! She started this on her own, needing my help with only 1 small spot and the rest she has accomplished from your RUclips videos. I am so happy she has finally found how relaxing crochet can be and how it feels to have created something beautiful from yarn!
    My grandmother always said our family had passed crochet & knitting down generation lines, back to “the old country” meaning the early 1700’s. I thought my daughter would break that cycle until she watched your videos. You made this project so understandable and achievable. Thank you so very much.

    This will be my third piece I’ve made following your tutorials Bonnie ❤ I’ll be making one of these gorgeous blankets for one of my best friends and another one for myself! Thanks so much! ❤

    • @BonnieBayCrochet
      @BonnieBayCrochet  8 месяцев назад +1

      Yes I do because the sizes on the yarn often correspond to the knitting needle size. That said, use the hook that yields the fabric that you desire.😊

      @@BonnieBayCrochet thanks so much Bonnie! :) i always go with the recommended hook size that’s on the yarn label, so just to clarify for this specific piece, if my yarn has a recommended hook size of H, should I still go up to a J and a K? Or do I stick with the H and use a K for the border? So happy I’ve made two Abigail baby blankets so the Celtic weave portions will be a breeze! ☺️ very excited to learn some new stitch work! ❤️

    I know this video is a few years old, but I have a question. For starting a row, for example row 6, you chain 2 and work a double crochet in the first stitch. Could a standing double crochet be worked in the first stitch instead of chaining 2. I know the chain 2 is for the height of the double crochet, but I was wondering if the standing double crochet would work here. Or, will the count be off if the starting chain 2 was omitted.

    Hi Bonnie!
    Thank you so much for this tutorial! I was curious why you decide to skip the first stitch when doing the slip stitch? If you didn't skip it and kept it (211 in this case), would it hurt the pattern?
    I ask because, for some reason, I always seem to mess up the first row in the lace section (one stitch off). I have to redo it and somehow add a stitch.
    I hope to hear from you soon! Thank you!

      Great question Miranda! When you chain 1 to begin the Low Front Ridge row, this visually looks lime a slip st in the first st. You can work a slip st in that first st, but you may have a small bump in row end. By skipping the first stitch this is avoided. Also, this row does not affect the stitch count of the project because it is the second row of the LFR (the single crochets that follow) that determines the stitch count. I hope this is helpful!
