How to Fix Cracked LCD Screen on Dell Inspiron Laptop

I wanted to send you a thank you letter for this video but I'm not familiar with how contacting people on youtube works, so I'm just sincerely hoping you read this. You have no idea how helpful your video was for me. I have a Dell Precision 3520, so my model is completely different from the one in the video, but your method worked amazingly. I've never done anything remotely like this, and I am so thankful that the universe presented your video as the first result of my google search. Equipped with my darning needle and my $1 mini screwdriver kit, I was able to replace my screen in 15 minutes. Literally, 15 minutes. The darning needle being so stiff allowed for the snaps to lift off so quickly. The screws and inside layout were so similar to your repair. The only difference in my repair was a lining of double stick tape around the entire screen perimeter, but nothing I couldn't adjust for. I had cracked my screen and due to the amount of sensitive financial information on the computer, I could not risk sending it out for repair and getting hacked. After watching your video, I watched about 4 more screen repair videos, but no one's method was as direct and efficient as yours. Other videos (for laptops closer to my model) removed so so so many more components before even touching the screen. I was praying that your method would work for me. The same night that I watched your video (before even opening the screen frame) I took a gamble and ordered a replacement screen for my model on ebay from a reputable parts seller for about $50. I appreciated you mentioning you've had good luck ordering LCD screens online (which was comforting for me). I was willing to lose the money if the gamble on the screen or the number of connector pins did not pay off. The screen arrived in 2 days, and your repair method literally took 15 minutes just now. I am typing this from my repaired laptop. Your knowledge, experience, and problem-solving skills are a blessing to this community. Thank you, thank you, thank you so much for sharing your method in this detailed tutorial to help an amateur in a sticky spot. I appreciate it so much.

Hi GuruBrew Master. Followed your instructions and they worked to a 't.' I bought my screen through Dell just to ensure there would be no warranty/return problems. But it works terrific now. By the way, for those guys that write vulgar criticisms, just continue to ignore them. Even the person that made the video admitted that he really meant to use the word REPLACE because he said it in the description. He didn't actually fix (repair) the old screen. He actually Replaced it.

Great video - in my case I only needed to reseat the ribbon cable connector as the screen itself was not broken, just no longer connected to the laptop electrically! But the video showed me what I needed to get at the connector

Question: my daughter had 2 things wrong with her Dell 15.6. 1. Keyboard not working 2. Broken LCD. So, I took off LCD per your instructions, then put everything in a big bag of rice. Do I need to remove the battery first? Or will it matter, since my battery is internal, and its fried, anyway? I have to replace the LCD screen and battery on my Inspiron 14z 5423. The battery is again, internal, for this model, and I fried my motherboard and had to replace it, only to find the battery shorted out, too (I did learn my lesson about coffee!), I have a few weeks left of this semester of college and I was hoping I could get away with replacing the screen, first, as the tiny fanned crack in my lower right corner seems to have spread into a diagonal hairline fracture across the middle.

Clarification: I did carefully pull the web cam cable loose from the backing (double sided tape) as you said, but once that was loose, there was enough slack to lay the monitor down and disconnect the 40 pin connector.

basically yes follow the same procedure. you can buy the screen with the lid and hinges from ebay if you have bad hinges to on you laptop. i had to replace the hinges on two of my laptops and it basically a similar procedure. though replacing the hinges is little more involved.

Hi, i noticed that in this case you were able no replace the display for an exact model, but have you ever replaced a laptop display for a compatible one? If so, did you notice anything bad with the image? I'm only fiding compatibles for my dell n5010 and i am trying to get used to that idea. Thanks anyway and sorry for my english, if it's too bad.

Compatibles are fine and have had no problems. Just make sure you are getting the right connectors type/placement needed and the mounting holes are the same. Steve

we have also a dell laptop and after using it for almost an hour it was turned off very good condition. after a few minutes my sister turned it on and discovered it was cracked. at first she thought it was a wallpaper that i made as a prank, but then it turned out it was a real crack. almost half of the screen. we dont know how it really got that cracked. it was not dropped or hit by something.

I don't know where you live but the replacement screen cost alone will be $150.00 and I would think around 65. to do the work but your mileage may vary.

Not necessarily, if if is a band that is consistent in width and color and may be something else (video) try plugging the laptop into an external monitor and see what happens

Usually if you get liquids in between the LCD glass you will see water type marks. You may have bad pixels. Google fix dead pixels and see it it solves your problem.
