  • Here's a low-cost solution for repairing your Dell Inspiron screen hinge when it breaks away from the screen lid. Rather than replace the whole lid assembly, I found a solution that works really well and seems to last for years. We use bonded anchor which is a chemical raw plug solution that goes off in around 5 minutes and is rock solid. Repair your Dell Inspiron screen hinge in around 15 minutes.

Thank you very much for your video. One hinge on my laptop snapped off the plastic mounting and started to damage the display case. For me, the nerve-wracking moments were removing the bezel around the display. I was afraid that I was going to damage the screen, especially at the top and bottom, where the adhesive strips are found. However, taking it slowly, there was no damage. Adjusting the tension on the hinge screws took a few tries - I saw the tip from another viewer that said the hinge cover could be removed with the case reassembled, and that helped a lot. I used the JB Weld cold weld epoxy, and that worked great. It takes a while to set, but it bonds firmly.

Sir, you truly are a RUclips hero. After almost a year of not closing my laptop due to this exact hinge issue, I was able to fix the problem thanks to this video. It went smoothly and now my laptop is actually better than when I first got it. Thank you so much.

Lol this is me right now my on failed 3 days ago and I haven't closed it since. Did both of yours fail too? I'm wondering if i can use this method on both hinges because they seem to have a different shape

Thank you for making this most excellent video. As for Dell I'm disappointed they ignore an obvious engineering flaw.

Thank you SO much for this video. This is the second time the hinges have broken on my Inspiron, what a crappy design. The first time was in warranty, now no such luck. Managed to do the repair by myself for £11 instead of going to the laptop repair place. You're doing the lord's work 🙌

THANK YOU! I thought I didn't stand a chance at finding a site or video that would so clearly walk me through fixing my Dell (less than 1 year old). God Bless You sir!

This just happened to my Dell Inspiron 15 3511, and I am crestfallen. Of course, my unit is just out of the warranty period ☹.
But this is a fantastic resource you have made and it should serve me well to get back in business. One thing I picked up on viewing another RUclipsr on this topic is using an ordinary playing card for a prying tool. It seemed to work especially well for removing the bezel. Thank you so much for producing this.

Sir, thank you so much for posting this vid, I was so skeptical of me doing this on my own as I was very scared. But I persevered and tried my hardest and I managed to fix mine, it’s a little loose when I open it but it’s better than nothing, thanks again😊

THANK YOU SO MUCH for the repair tutorial video. Clear, concise, well planned and clearly photographed. Easy to follow directions led to a successful repair. As I am here in the US, I used JB Weld, Auto Weld 2-part epoxy. I was able to unscrew the threaded inserts that held the hinge screws and just epoxy them back into place, and not epoxy the entire hinge together. Once the inserts were dry, I just reassembled the hinges using the screws as it was originally assembled. I also recalibrated (adjusted) how stiff the hinges were, to avoid having the same problem in the future. TIP: you can adjust the hinges once the entire laptop is put back together, by just removing the hinge covers. Better to do it this way so you can accurately see how stiff or loose to make the hinges, based on how they hold to laptop screen open. Again, thanks for the repair help via the video!

hi.. interesting. Dell covered in my case with 5 month old laptop with basic warranty. I paid nothing. They sent me a box with prepaid shipping, then I sent them the laptop and got it back in7 days repaired. They changed the lcd back, the hinge cap, and the lcd cable connector. All was free.. I don't like Dell's crap quality, but the service was perfect

Thank you very much for this wonderful information. It saved my time and money at a crucial time. The service center people asked for ten days time with considerable service charges to fix the issue. But, I fixed it within one hour as per your guidelines. Thank you so much once again for this help.

This is fantastic. Even if I COULD find original parts to do the repair, which I can't, it didn't make sense to me if the same thing was going to happen in another 6 months.
This seems more like a proper SOLUTION, not just a repair. Thank you!

Can I thumbs up twice! Thank you so much for the video. I used AnchorFix-2 Heavy Duty Fast Curing Anchoring Adhesive (less than $30) and now I have anchoring adhesive for future projects, assuming it does not dry out.

Same thing happened to my dell. I used JB weld to keep the hinge together. Seems to be holding up pretty well. I thought my solution was a bit of a hack so I watched this video and confirmed, the pros are doing the exact same thing just with some different UK product. Lol

Yes! THANK YOU. I was skeptical about the Epoxy, but once I followed your expert video instructions and I saw the conditions of the holes the hinge screws go into, I thought, "oh yes, epoxy is the only way!" It all worked fantastically!

I thought so too at first, but it turns out epoxy isn't actually necessary.
My Inspiron 15 3511 (same chassis as the one in the video) was having this same exact problem where the overly tight hinges ripped the hinge screws out of the plastic lid cover. I found this video looking up fixes, but I didn't have any kind of epoxy to use. So I decided to try regular superglue instead. I had strong doubts about it being strong enough to handle the strain, but worst case scenario I could try again later with epoxy.
But once I loosened the hinges to an appropriate degree, the superglue was able to handle it no problem!

@@Swagaito_Gai I am just about to start the repair. I don't have any kind of epoxy, I just have super glue. I am having doubt about it working but lets see. That's the only thing I got. Ok just read your comment and I am about to start my repair.
