You know what simply amazes me? You claim not to be a master but the repairs and tech checks and your know how seems like a master to me! Sir you know more then most of the so called "masters" I know. So please keep doing what you are doing, I enjoy your channel greatly.
I usually put some locktite on the screws when the hinges are repaired. They seem to hold up a LOT better.
like threadlocker?
I really like your videos, wish you posted more often. I kinda made a habit of watching them before going to sleep. Not an insult - for me it has just the right vibe to calm me down and put me to sleep. Good work, I really like your LFC and LBC videos.
I love watching your stuff brother! You really make golden videos!
Keep up the good work! :)
Thank you for making videos. You are one of my inspiration and guide on this field. Watching from Philippines.
Nice to see the work videos haven't changed at all since you started the live streams :)
Just Found this channel instant sub, just binge watching your whole channel.
How come I always have more screws after I've put a laptop back together? lol Great video!
He said it in a previous video: It ain't a good job if you don't have some screws left.
They always go mad with screws, the bottom case screws are the important ones lol.
@@zx8401ztv hinge screws most important!
Thanks for the video - very useful. I'll be buying a new back cover and bezel for my wife's laptop soon. It's about time Dell sorted the hinge problem out. There are so many complaints in the Dell Community about this and RUclips is full of videos showing how to fix them. Robust, they are certainly not.
Very helpful, thank you.
Just reminded me to check the hinges on my aspire ES15 - but before I put the screws back I switched it on to check see if it was still working and it wouldn't switch on - I left the HDD/SSD panel off the back and notice a tiny little switch, I assume that the lappy wont work if this switch is open - I learnt something new today - all good now though.
You saved my time. Thank you
I would be embarrased taking such a filthy item to a repair shop...amazes me how some people treat their stuff....great vid as always
Hopefully work will pick up for you. Still got my fingers crossed you get into the new shop and all works out for you. Was wondering if I can contribute in some small way. Do you need any small round magnetic trays or compartments for holding screws. Maybe some bat-anti squeak spray from a utility belt? Lol. Just let me know. Keep up the good work. Stay safe my dude. ✌
Hi you were back, glad to see you& automatic "screw driver "
It is like you said, better to learn from your mistakes than not make any and not learn anything. I really like this kind of video's I hope you one day make one where you build a new PC for either yourself or a customer, keep up the good work
Search RUclips for "adamant it LBC#" (let's build computers) for videos where he builds computers.
Great way to start the day 🤟
16:24 Modern laptops, with a camera in the screen bezel, use an embedded display (eDP) cable/signal; which carries (power, USB data, video data, etc).
Thanks a lot my dear brit
Have you ever tried using Super Glue and Baking Soda to repair broken screw mounts and other broken parts? A lot of people have never heard of doing this but it sets up extremely hard and can be sanded and worked with a Dremel tool.
Yea I want to try this some time. I think the amount of effort involved isn't worth it - but for some laptops where the parts just aren't economical, it'd totally be worth a try.
@@Adamant_IT Effort? Is faster than disassemble the laptop itself. And the cost is near zero. Plus is faster than wait for parts to be delivered.
i have a similar laptop model and i always wondered if we can pop an SSD in the slot for the wifi module
Hello, I have been watching your videos for a while now and I love your videos. HP's I think are the worst to work on. Hope to catch you on your next live stream.
Is it possible to fixe the hinge without putting apart the whole laptop? It started to come loose and hasnt fully moved out, and i was hoping that i dont have move it and disassemble it.
Good job
I just refurbished a HP with a hinge that broke the same way. It was cursed from the time I opened it up, cheap plastic, massively abused, and expensive parts that came damaged. It is functionally solid, but looks like Frankenstein. I'm still not sure if I want to keep it for testing purposes or sell it to get some of my money back.
Great video. I like how you leave in your little mistakes. I hope you got a partial refund from the ebay seller who didn't pack the screen assembly correctly leading to the damage.
Hi. May i know where i can buy the parts as mentioned in the video. I search by the model number inspiron 15 3515 but couldn't find any.
Nice Bro
Companies should make all covers from aluminium , it's a little bit expensive but it's better than plastic covers.
I currently have one HP in for a hinge repair and another one coming in later today LOL. One would think by now they would have a better design.
thank you
Do you think a thread lock would help keep them screws put?
Perfect example of when a partial (in this case, most-ial) refund is called for.
Absolutely.
A bit off topic but can you give me an idea of the video camera setup your using? It looks like the set up I would like to use for my painting videos. Many thanks

@@Adamant_IT That's great just what I needed to know.
Well done graham, a smart repair :-D
Maybe ( Firm but not forced screws ) is what you were saying.
Brass inserts in a tube of thin plastic is asking for trouble :-(
Jeez, every electronics video I watch from different channels, there you are in the comments!
Worked in IT Telco maintenance for 33 years at times you are hard on yourself due to the number of bad experiences you have ( and build good experiences from ) I always say " It's never a mistake unless you leave it ! "
Do you use hard plastic mat or soft fabric mats on your workbench?
Soft fabric. Basically a mouse mat. Gives you a firm surface, but soft enough not to scratch up what you're working on. It's not heat resistant, but that doesn't matter, the mat is expendable.
So that's where all the dust went.
i remember those dells were pretty attractive for the price. I mean some had shitty pentiums and that, but i remember there was an i5 version for only $349. they ended up being are biggest warranty flop ever since we bought some for our customers, we have had about 8 of them come in so far for hinge repair now.
Yea, I've sold quite a few of these, I've been lucky so far, but I'm glad the model's been updated now.
Hi, been looking at your RUclips was wondering whether you’d like to try fixing my 1080 gtx strix. No display output but does get hot and reads in bios if I use my cpu integrated chip.
I want to get into GPU repair, but I'm not ready yet. I plan to start investigating in the new year.
Wonderful packaging job.. Also you put the same twitter link in the description.
Fixed - cheers!
I've often wondered on laptop hinge repairs, when the laptop isn't worth the cost of replacing the hinges if it would be worth just drilling through the top cover and bolting it together. If you got the right sized bolts and nuts it wouldn't even look that bad. Had a K53TA laptop that I was tempted to do that with but... waited too long and the entire case was damaged when the hinges pulled out.
It's certainly do-able. As are other bodge-fixes like su-gru. I haven't really tested them much myself though.
@@Adamant_IT haven't used su-gru for anything so I'm not sure how well it holds. The reason I keep thinking of a bolt is because you can mitigate a lot of plastic damage or just give the hinge more surface area to pull against by adding a washer to the mix. Sadly or interestingly, both laptops I've had this happen on are cheaper Acer models, though I've seen it in others.
should i clean my Pc Monitor whit glass spray detergent or use a mix of destilled water and vinagre like i read somewere in the internet ?
Glass cleaner is basically water and vinegar, so same thing really.
Awesome, would you also reset the battery stats with your new machine.?
Not unless there were issues with the battery.
4:27 I see a missing screw, which may have became missing in them cleaning the dust out.
17:29 hey I also made a same mistake as well!
this screen obviously has no matte layer, but don't window cleaning sprays take these matte layers off, in screens that do have them?
Nope. Never seen windows cleaner damage a screen, unless the screen has an already-damaged anti-glare coat. These anti-glare coats are visible as a purple sheen. They're pretty rare though, except for Apple laptops, which have a reasonably tough anti-glare that also stands up to window cleaner.
Hi @Adamant IT
Mate very useful video thanks for it alot
I have that laptop as 15 3542 with i7 4510u gt840 version but Dell specification says it supports up to 8gb ddr3L memory do you have any chance to try a 16 gb ddr3l ram? I dont have any budget to buy any new replacement laptop but 16 gb ram would be really nice to get it 2 years
Also i have seen some dude replace the screen with 1080p version and 2lane edp cable. Do you have any chance to confirm this cuz i have seen some good deal on that screen? Have a good day
I'll be very surprised if it won't take 16GB of RAM, but I couldn't tell you for sure. Screen wise, yea so long as you have the right display cable as well, you'll be good.
@@Adamant_IT thanks for the reply king i will find the right cable
Graham what kind of camera should I get for recording my work?Like you do with your bench view you do.
I think he said in another video that he uses a Logitech C920.
Main cam is a Logitech BRIO. Face cam is a C920 though, which is the cam I started off with. Been around for years and still one of the best webcams. Prices are stupid high though right now.
Thank you!!!!
does the DVD drive work? ribbon cable on case bottom 17:11
Yea that connects under the keyboard.
I can tell you haven't got new stools yet Graham 🤔 unless this was a pre-last-weekend video? 😂🇬🇧
Now way! This is with the new stools! I guess there's always going to be _some_ noise. No chair is silent. Or at least, not when you use a condenser mic with the gain whacked up to full like I do.
@@Adamant_IT My bad 😨 I thought I heard the creaks when you sat down 😂😂😂🇬🇧
15:44 giggidy
Maybe will break the bank, but buy some thread locker for the screws. You do such repairs often to be feasible use some glue.
I have lots of LCD what's the best way to test them all?
Couple of old laptops. LCDs haven't changed in a while, there's a 40pin connector and a 30pin connector. Get two old laptops, one with each type, and plug your LCDs in to test. Modern ones (like in this video) don't have a frame, slightly older ones have a silver frame around them. Framed LCDs are only good for old laptops, it's up to you if you want to keep those.
Pre-30/40pin connectors are the old CCFL backlit screens, identifiable by having an inverter at the bottom going to a two-wire backlight cable. Chuck these out they're not worth keeping.
Have you ever heard threadlocker my dear IT ? :D
Very intelligent
i hate laptops that skimp on hinge construction and mounting, as it leads to this poor dell's situation.
Maybe we should start putting threadlocker on laptop screws.
Where did you buy your part from
I get most of my stuff from eBay. Sometimes Aliexpress, but only if I have to, as delivery times are slow.
@@Adamant_IT thanks. I'm looking for the same part you have, but having trouble finding it. Can you help? A link of some sort?
Is it cold in the shop? You have big jumpers on these days!
I'm trying not to turn on the heating before December 😅
Nice
it is always the " packaging guy " isn't it ? 😁 ,
2:24 - 2:33 Went into a James May there?
I would've opted to populate that empty ram slot while you had the laptop apart.
A hinge repair without half a kilo of hot glue? Sorin will be turning in his grave!!!
Wasn't that possible to open a complaint and ask the seller to return money?
Probably, but honestly I have better things to do than haggle for a tenner refund.
doesn't that make hurl
Another shoddy dell inspiron shell...
Okay we want basic repair laptop videos
👍👍👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thumbnail text in bottom right gets cut off by the video length numbers very annoying
working with a sleevs like urs is always not good :)
I need to learn more about laptops, I don't understand why people like them so much. Easy to trash w/ spilled coffee . . still they exist and eventually I'll have to buy one. . . Thanks for the video
He forgot the cd rom cable
I'm really dubious about buying components from Ebay now. I've bought two motherboards, one arrived damaged thanks to USPS treating it like a football and the other just flat out didn't work. The clown selling said he tested it and it all worked fine, yeah except DIMM A1 & A2 and the faulty bios so now I just don't trust Ebay for parts.
Karma
30 pounds? Sorins hot glue sandwich would have repaired it for 30 pence.
you could have requested a partial refund.
Oh man people don't take care computer and laptops it full responsibility to treat electricians devices
Not to brake devices
Lol he head 1 job.......... to pack !
Well that's the downside of online buying😂🤣😂🤣
2nd
lol dell is the roach of PC's
Ask for a partial refund and you'll get it. You really nee photos but a still from the video will do it or an edited clip. Edit it for obvious reasons.
Moronicism
Dell continues to sell this cheap case with the same broken hinge waiting to happen. That is why I am DONE with Dell.
