    Wow this is what I exactly needed as I have been struggling to add details to clothing without making it look fake. Thanks for this tutorial guys!

    Been using Blender back in 2014. Moved on to Maya because it was the "industry standard". Now I'm taught 3ds max at uni.
    It's time to return to Blender. Honestly the best software, with MAX being possibly the most frustrating time I've ever had 3D modeling.

    Super awesome! Blender is a tricky beast to do tutorials with lol.
    ================================
    Essential stuff added in Blender v2.91 for cloth:
    +Cloth Collision was added
    -- Objects needs collision modifier for it to work
    -- Also a setting in the brush it's self.
    +Cloth Simulation area was added [Local/Global/Dynamic]
    -- Local, Simulates only a specific area around the brush limited by a fixed radius
    -- Global, Simulates the entire mesh
    -- Dynamic, The active simulation area moves with the brush.
    ================================
    Marvelous Designer is still the way to go with simulations. The way you can pin dynamically, the way you can seam planes together, and faster simulations are the reasons why MD is still King/Queen/Top tier for clothing.

    3:20 Actually you can enable collision with the newer version. It's in the setting of the cloth brush tool - "Enable Collision"

    These are outdated Cloth Brush settings..
    The final stable version at the time of this video (2.91) has fixed many of the mentioned issues.. Not to mention the alpha (2.92)
    Otherwise this is a valuable commentary.. I like many of the tips mentioned...
    May I point out to the Cloth Mass slider though...?! 😃

      We were using the stable release of 2.91 though, so perhaps most of it is in the alpha?

      @@FlippedNormals Oh! .. Then I must have missed something... I was comparing the 2.91 default tool settings on my laptop with yours and they seemed different..
      I didn't notice the option to Enable Collision in your settings, an option you pointed out the brush lacked.. Weird! 😅

    Do you recommend getting marvelous designer? Blender and zbrush both has Cloth dynamics now..zbrush 2021.5 even updated its dynamics.So what if we use extract option in zbrush to extract topology and use cloth brushes on it?

    • @chokerzin
      @chokerzin 3 года назад +1

      Blender has always had cloth dynamics. The cloth brush for sculpt mode is new tho.

      I make a huge part of my living with RL clothing patterns for the industry, but I do 3d clothing as well, both with Clo3d which is kind of the big sister of MD. They use the same sim engine, and the results are far ahead from the results of Blender's cloth engine. And it is a lot faster than only working with Blender or ZBrush.
      For RL clothing those aren't an option anyway. In Clo I add the seam allowances, do the grading for the different sizes and just send everything over to the plotter.
      For 3D clothing (for DAZ and Poser e.g.) I need to do a bit more work in ZBrush and Blender.
      I am a huge blender fan, and I also work with ZBrush. But none of them comes near to what you can achieve in MD or Clo.
      Is it worth the money for a hobbyist? I don't know but I guess if you are working just for fun, without deadlines, so you can take your time, you will be fine without MD. There are some good addons for blender like the Garment tools, Simply Cloth and Modeling Cloth. The latter you can even get for free on github. On Gumroad and Blender Market all three cost about 30 to 40 dollar I believe. Haven't checked the prices for a while, but those are one time payments. Just be aware that they don't give you a result that realistic like with MD, nor is it as quick and easy.
      You can test MD for free for a month. Just check it out and see how you like it.

      Yes, qauds work a little better. Especially if you want to add more detail but subdividing in Blender

    I have to use Auto Scale to import into MD and then use Meters to export back to Blender. Importing using Meters to MD makes an avatar so big that the camera cannot see it.

    What's keeping me from Blender is the weird UV menu and the way it looks. Idk if you can change the background, and make it default to show UDIMs like Maya is, but I really hate UVs in Blender, and add some realtime hair support
    If they can fix and add that I will probably convert

    • @Lanaur_
      @Lanaur_ 3 года назад +1

      You could take a look at the Theme section in the preferences for the background. For UDIM's, first of all, I hope you are in 2.91 already, for better performances while displaying many images. Then, if you want, there is a UV Grid option, limited to 10 by 10 (100 tiles, that's quite good already) since it's not really the way you create proper UDIM's, I guess it's more of a preview thing, to my understanding. To make more than 100 tiles you'll have to create an image.
      If you want to have that preview grid by default, you can just start Blender, but don't change anything, as you'll save the layout after. Then go to the UV editing workspace, change the UV grid numbers in the N panel, then go back to the original layout, then click on file -> defaults -> save startup file (will save any change you've made to the UI, so pay attention to that). There are extra options in the Overlay Menu of UV Editor.
      Hope it helped a bit. I can't really do anything for the approximative menus and UI other than that.

    • @Lanaur_
      @Lanaur_ 3 года назад

      I still wouldn't recommand doing the UV's in Blender if you know better somewhere else, but what's sure is that is excelles in other areas. So I guess combining strength of all softs can be a good thing.
