      When I was debating between upgrading my iPad in 2019, or getting a Wacom Cintiq, I made the decision for my iPad Pro. I already had procreate on my previous iPad, so I didn’t need to buy it again. With Cintiq, I probably had to upgrade my computer at some point.
      The iPad Pro I got in 2019, I still use every single day and it runs like a dream, added bonus that I didn’t need an overpriced Adobe subscription to actually draw.

      It will be an ultra small project. One thing iPads aren’t designed for is server integration. So sharing files across people will be a pain, and also if you work in a big studio they are crazy secure with their files, and all these security programs in your PC at work just don’t exist on iPad.
      You will see small projects, commercials, video clips shorts. Segments in films and tv shows use it. Tiktok and RUclips projects.
      A full production pipeline on iPad won’t happen. Studios would love that, because cintiq’s, computers are expensive, but the logistics mentioned before means we are far away from that.

      It’s not just about the software, it’s about the person who uses the software. Heck, Aaron Blaise probably could have made the same film in Callipeg or ToonSquid. The most important thing when producing old school Disney animation is knowing all the tips and tricks found in animation books, knowing how to use reference the right way, and mastering the charts.

    • @GerasSB
      @GerasSB 11 месяцев назад

      @@dillonwright13 I think the point OP is trying to make is that producing an entire animation before was simply not feasible for $20, and even the top apps in the industry that cost much more suffer from problems; Adobe Animate is a nightmare to work with as anyone who's used it can testify, Toon Boom Harmony is a spaceship and extremely hard to understand and use without straight up studying it, and Clip Studio has a subpar player, doesn't even have audio scrubbing, and I have no clue how it would handle long animations. Procreate Dreams is claiming to have fixed all those issues while ALSO being orders of magnitude cheaper AND being able to achieve the highest degree of results.

      I'm hoping for a Disney Animation comeback, though! Blaise DID a GREAT WORK here, of course..
      I once did an animationmovie in filmschool ( in ANIMO, back then) Funnily about a bird that tries to fly, also falls on a branch, and also get's catapulted into air to discover "his REAL FLYING abilities, after all, called ICARUS.. This TRIGGERED me , personally, seeing this ( in a GOOD WAY! Thanks Aaron Blaise !!) Really!! But all his personal craft, mastery and wizardry beside, this is STILL ASTONISHING, that apperantly you could do the exact LOOK and FEEL, INSIDE THIS new standalone-software..(with the right knowlege of course), for just a ONE TIME PAYMENT!! The drawings were DRAWN INSIDE the software, that means the brushes, onion skinning , flipbook-thing is WORKING and you can also work with SOUND inside, do a avoice-over directly in PCD, editing, colouring, you NAME it !! Gives me HOPE! GOOD JOB !! Need to TRY THIS OUT in the future, maybe only for Storyboarding /animatics I'm pretty rusty in animation, nowadays 😀!@@dillonwright13

    Tiny correction: The only parts that were animated frame by frame in the Witch piece were the eye blinks and the beaks of the seagulls.
    Everything else was warp/position/scale/rotation/ performed. Her purse is animated via rotation perform, her skirt/hat/hair is multiple passes of warp perform (you can just keep recording over each perform warp pass and it just adds deformations on top. super powerful), the broom wiggle was warp performed on two separate layers, the seagull wings were y-scale performed etc. I could have done all of it frame by frame too, but warp perform is much faster and non-destructive.

    $20 is cheap, knowing how well procreate itself works. It never fails me, I was one of the first adopters, and paid €4-5.
    I was guessing it’d be around $40-50, to offset the fact they’re not a fan of subscription models. At $ 20, even people like myself who is not into animation, other than the occasional bouncy ball, it’s low enough to buy.
    I’m still PO’d at Adobe. I bought CS3 for a lot of money eons ago, but can’t use it anymore. And at € 25 / month, it’s extortionately expensive, for someone like me who uses it sparingly.

      Procreate are usually pretty good at supporting older iPads. They were the last major app to stop support on the OG ipad. Which even apple only supported with just one OS update 😅
      And I think right now procreate runs well on all devices that can run the latest iPad os. So I would imagine on launch it will be the same with dreams. You might have limitations such as not having the million pixel image or limit on animation length or layer count. But that exists on current procreate. So if you are comfortable with current procreate, I think dreams will run fine on your iPad.

I always like to make sure that what I work with has enough power to get the job done. This app looks EXTREMELY good and the fact that it's running on an IPAD of all things just blows me away. I've been looking for a 2d animation app that has everything I need that isn't a subscription and I think this might be it.

    Awesome video, Brad! Love your videos! Just a small correction, the animation on the witch is all preformed. The skirt, hair, hat broom is all Preform animated by doing several preforms with warp in Procreate Dreams. You can preform many times over the same Warp mesh to get really cool and organic results. The only frame by frame in this one is her eyelids when she is blinking. The seagulls wings and such are also preformed. Just so you know ;-)

    • @Anja_Pearson
      @Anja_Pearson 11 месяцев назад +3

      Actually, if I understand what you mean, you CAN do that in procreate--just tap on the preview image of the layer you're on, and you'll get a handle on the left side that has a menu, "reference" being one of the options. You can then use paint fill on another layer and it will register the lines of your reference lineart. I hope that's helpful!

    I guess the price thing is all about perspective. I'm a Nigerian who wants to get into digital art. 20 dollars for me isn't cheap at all. But then again, when you already have an iPad and apple pencil that costs hundreds of dollars, why can't you find 20 dollars extra.
    When I first saw procreate teasing an event, what I thought they wanted to do was announce some radical change to the procreate app and with that also change to a subscription model.
    I legit was panicking and was scrambling to find a way to buy the Procreate app before they announce the changes, in the hope that they won't make existing customers start paying monthly just yet.
    Even now that they have announced Procreate Dreams for 20 dollars, I still don't trust that they'll keep it at that price for much longer (because honestly I do not understand how they can make money off of just one 20 dollar purchase per person) and so I'm still trying to find a way to buy both apps as soon as possible so when they inevitably turn it into a subscription model, I can hope to get some benefits for being an existing customer or something.
    That's just my perspective on it though. (Lol just realised a good comparison. I'm a uni student. 30 dollars right now is enough to pay for like half of my school fees for the last school year, before the school's massive price jumps.)

I mean there’s plenty of animation and pro level apps out there that aren’t only hundreds of dollars but they’re also a subscription so you never get to actually own it. So I’m always so happy when good apps like these come out and aren’t a subscription so you get to own it outright and never have to worry about losing it or not having the money to re-subscribe. Sure, every drawing app has some animation capabilities, where you can add single frames, but you wouldn't actually use 90% of them to animate. You can't move keyframes around, can't add hold frames etc.
    It doesn't seem too complicated to add a useful timeline, but only a tiny percentage of apps have a useable timeline. I know of Callipeg and Dreams on the iOS (while most features are hidden on Dreams) and Krita on Android.
    I briefly tried Dreams on the Playgrounds in Motion and you can clearly see, they asked animators and listened to them.
