- Procreate Dreams launched today, but before you start working in it, there’s just a few quick things I want to help you understand so you can get animating. The flip side of an app that’s really revolutionary with its approach to animation is that revolutionary means it’s going to be different. BECAUSE everyone is so excited to jump into this, I just want to help you navigate, since it’s not laid out like really any other animation app I’ve used before. As we announced before, the plan is to animate the majority of our visual effects shots for Stormfellers in Dreams, and there’s a lot more I have planned to use Dreams for, so plenty to come to stay tuned on. I will say, and this is not based on any insider information, more just, precedent and intuition, I am looking forward to if not expecting, a LOT more features, both already in Procreate and otherwise, to be added to Dreams in a relatively short amount of time.

Why am I emotional over the "have fun dreaming" change to "have fun creating". Dreams really does feel like a huge potential shift in the industry
Thanks for watching to the end!
It is a shift in industry not potentially..
@@JoshuaLeviii It's a great program, agreed.I don't get this huge shift in the industry part though. I mean it's an app for animation. How is animating more in ipad going to create a shift in the industry.
havent watched the vid but i took that as the passive aggressive “lmao yeah keep dreaming bud.” tfw u dont have the skills to draw what ur imagining NSOJNOJAN
@@feralbxte certainly not intended to be passive aggressive, if youre familiar with the way I typically sign off videos.
The app is definitely lacking some key features (ie laso tool) but I heard it’ll be added soon so I’m super excited! Already making an animatic!
Agreed, not having the same drawing features as pro create is making me wonder why I would use this.. if I had procreate fully within this app it would make more sense.
@@ladyybusiness2725 I think not all will be added to Dreams. They want us to use both apps not Dreams having full Procreate features
@@ladyybusiness2725but then people could say why get procreate
As far as I know they removed undo too.
@@KardKimdashian huh? No they didn’t
Legitimately never thought I’d be able to step towards animation but this actually makes it seem doable.
Just gotta commit myself to taking the time to learn the app rather than wasting hours brute forcing my way around the program like I did with Procreate (although the ease at which I was able to complete projects the *correct* way almost made it worth it).
You got this!
this is the bridge between something like flipaclip and something like toonboom when it comes to experience, and is exactly what we've been missing i believe. i love it so much.
tutorials like yours will go a long way to help people understand how the differences make procreate dreams really good
Thank you so much!
I've been using Flipaclip for years and while it's improved over time, not having clipping layers or a camera to move was a big annoyance for me. I can't wait to try out Dreams! (Even if I'm still a novice with ProCreate in general)
the nice thing about dreams is that the actual drawing part is almost Exactly like procreate, so if you learn procreate, you know how to use that part of Dreams. also, i started out on flipaclip, and so far Dreams feels like Flipaclip But Better
Thisll be good to know, i had premium flip a clip for awhile but i dont really subscribe to the monthly subscription models, also colouring frames was always hell for me in flipaclip as i got older i just didn’t want to colour the animations. Im very experienced with procreate too, cant wait to buy it when i get money again
Flipaclip actually has clipping layers now
@@jobsjob IT DOES??? Holy shit I gotta check through the new update better
I have to say, it’s been an absolute blast so far! Animating has been so easy… but… the rendering. It’s been a few mins now since I put my first 1 min animation to render. And it has not gotten to 1%. I’m hoping that it’s one of those things where it suddenly jumps forward but this might stop me for using it as much
Edit: it was a software issue, they released and update today that renders the animation in seconds. (thank god)
I’m just thankful for the update❤
people who already did😂
guilty as charged
✋️
yeah that's why im here
Yup… 🤭
Hey Brookes! It was really nice meeting you at Lightbox! I can't wait to get started on dreams animating my characters!
Likewise and likewise!
Just blew my mind with the layer separation on the timeline.
AT LAST a quality Dreams tutorial that zooms in on the controls and functions.
Thank you, Brooks, for taking the extra time to let us see what you are clicking on. ,,,Rowby.
This app is amazing, but I’m wonder where all the basic tools are, like lasso/free hand tool and moving drawing layers, and select/automatic are? why can’t we use gaussian blur with layers? I know dreams has been out for less then 24 hours, but its makes no sense to me why they hyped it up so much just for to have nothing. I thought you were going to be able to draw just like procreate and do all the fine details with the tool bar all WHILE animating. but you cant, and I really hope they update it soon.
I obviously am not giving up on the app , I know it’s gonna get better but in the politest way possible, im so confused as to why no one thought of this before releasing ?
Like yall had 5 years and no one thought to just make it exactly like procreate to accommodate how artists use shortcuts and personal stuff while drawing? 😅
@mccblss tbf on their website they released a roadmap explaining that stuff such as select/lasso, transform and merging were planned for 1.0 but just couldnt make it in time due to difficulties with the whole 1m x 1m canvases thing. its a matter of just being patient as they're keenly aware of this issue.
@@bigblueghost that make sense. I understand that it would be hard to get all of them there in time, and I’m 100% willing to wait, I was just confused! Thanks for letting me know!
Wow! The warm light + blue shirt combo is really working for you in this video Brooks!
The new office brought way better lighting conditions with it 😆
smooth... He's hot. There I said it. 😍
@charliealvarado401 I was just commenting on the color scheme, I swear!
That being said, you're not wrong, lol. Somebody forged his character design perfectly. 😊
Oh man, great video Bagel! I’m not even done yet and I’m so excited! We’ve needed a program like this for years and your introduction to the features is so easy to follow! We’re gonna see so many more people have access to animating, so excited to see the future!!
Thanks so much Christina, im excited too!
Totally one of the best tutorials I’ve seen so far, I’m looking for frame by frame and you showed me tricks for that where others have just showed how to move pictures. Thank you!
I got the hang of it but I need a lasso tool
Muito obrigado pelo tutorial!!!!
art and animation are perfect
This was very helpful! Thank you for sharing. Procreate was a learning curve for me in the very beginning, but it’s long since become the most comfortable app for me to work in. I anticipate this will feel similar after the initial learning curve, and there’s certain advantages too in getting to grow alongside a software as new things are added. Meanwhile, I’m also taking some animation fundamentals courses, and I’m going to keep having fun learning. 😊👍
I am so excited for this program!! Ive wanted to dabble in little animations for a while and this looks so much simpler than most other programs.
Also lol @ the irony of getting a skillshare ad for animating in procreate in the midroll
the machine KNOWS
Thank you very much 😍😍😍😍
Thanks man!
I’m so getting this
I’ve been looking for an affordable animation software that isn’t just like flipaclip or blender which are at opposite ends of difficulty using and I’m not the biggest fan of either so I’m so glad that procreate has made their own animation software cause animating in procreate itself is a nightmare.
I really hope we get some of the tools from procreate back like the drag and stretch tool in dreams… unless im missing something. Its not in the normal tool bar at the top like it is on procreate.
I’ve been so excited for this, and I’m really excited to start learning 2d animation with the app. Thanks so much for the walk-through and tips!
Thank you for the video!! Interface will take a little time to get used to but I am loving it
15:39 yeah! Rage quit that box!
This is so helpful! I’m so excited to dig into this app!
So glad it was helpful!
Have you noticed that in flip book mode while drawing, lines will be higher or lower resolution depending on how zoomed in you are? Do you know a way to change that so the strokes are consistent no matter the zoom?
I have that problem in clip studio paint as well, it's a real pain. I really hope there's a fix for it in both softwares
yeah i’ve noticed that and it makes me so upset. my digital art style necessitates a lot of zooming, and it’s absolute hell for me to do lineart without it looking janky.
I heard it’s a setting in preferences, people also don’t like it
It's not something that needs a "fix". A digital image is made up of tiny colored squares lined up together to form something tangible, so of course you're gonna see the squares much clearer when you zoom in. If you want seamless lines, do vector art. I believe Clip Studio is capable of this.
@@nnoav I didn't phrase it very clearly my bad. What I mean is: if I draw a stroke while zoomed out and then zoom in and draw another stroke with the same brush on the same settings, the one drawn while zoomed in will be very clear while the other will be super blurry. And that's annoying because then lineart for an animation will have lines of varying blurriness based on my zoom level while drawing them
I had no idea how to select multiple layers (or group) until you showed it! Very nice.
It's so frustrating how the devs LOVE to bury features 2-3 clicks into menus with almost no indication that it's there, you can tell they still need to get some feedback to improve the new user experience for sure..
I agree! I hope Dreams improves and actually adds a lasso tool. As soon as they do that I'll be set!
awesomeeee thanks :D!!!
so if i want to learn animation and motion graphics should I start with basic version of procreate then move to procreate dreams or just start with procreate dreams without buying basic procreate?
Very good teaching skills. Can’t wait to put another procreate animation together on the new procreate dreams. 😊
is there a way to take a regular procreate animation and put it into dreams? i have multiple animatics id like to import so i can fill in the inbetweens because i ran out of frames in rtegular procreate
This is so awesome! I’ll be able to buy it in a few days. Very exciting! Thanks for making this.
So cool! That clipping mask feature immediately gave me Chowder vibes
So I just started looking at trying frame by frame drawn animation by using Krita (since it's free). I don't have much knowledge about the process outside of basics such as onion skins.
How does this compare to my complete beginner experience? No matter what I pick up there will be a learning curve at this point, and I want to keep going with frame by frame animation, so would this app have features that make that approach easier....? I don't even know if anything exists to make that a quicker task instead of just manually drawing more in-between frames until it's smoother
This video has made me excited to try the app, but as someone who is very new to animation, the ending was a bit intimidating lol
Hopefully, as I use the app more, some of things will make more sense.
ありがとう😊この動画を見て頑張ります!😊
This helped give me confidence to jump in. Thank you
Does it work smoothly in IPad 9th gen?
Is there still a wrench tool?
Watching this while the app downloads : ) so excited!!!
thank you so much for this!! i cant believe how many functions i was missing. you really saved my animation project
I came here like a firefly to your lantern logo✨😍
The title may seem clickbait but, I tried moving stuff in dreams and didn’t know what to do 😂
Lesson learn 😅 thanks for sharing! ❤ wish to see more videos of you playing with the app
Oh nuts! I opened Dreams first!
I did check this vid almost second!
I think you're in the clear just this once! 😆

This was really fun and informative dude.
is anyone else having a problem where all of the brushed have maximum stabilizing and streamline? if possible how can i turn that off?
Thank you! I really needed a simple tutorial for it :)
My brushes are going so slow. Any idea how to fix this please?
why can't you hold the pen after you draw a circle/square to smooth it out like in procreate...
So I'm looking at this 5 months later, and the "convert layers to tracks" doesn't seem to be showing up for me. Am I doing something wrong or is the feature gone?
Is quickshape in it? I can’t figure it out
My app has a problem where when I draw on the flip book it draws on all the sections
why does the app barely function?
it can hardly handle me pressing the home button
anyone else?
I was quite excited to get started after using procreate for so long, but i’ve been unable to do virtually anything in the app, let alone start animating.
I hope it becomes more usable after a few updates D:
When I try to import a brush from procreate, the "importing one item" loading screen is frozen and makes no progress, indefinitely
I have one doubt can we xreate character by using only proxreate dreams or is it just for animating?
I can’t wait to dive into this incredible app!!
Are they ever going to fix that pen/touch bug? I'm really sick of my knuckle making random marks all over my drawings. BTW: How about some vector brushes?
if they can eventually add useful tools like lasso, and also settings such as brush editing/pressure editing, i'll be so so happy. the app is amazing so far, but these small additions will put it far above other programs
How do you make a costom canvas size : ( ?
How many gb can it take?
Too late I already opened it at 00:01 last night
Pls Can you draw shapes in dreams? If yes how?
Does this support image and text drag and drop support in split view or multi window , can we add multiple gif to our pockets and what about video overlays? Does this work as video editing app also? Thank you.
Yes to everything except for the pockets question, which i don’t quite understand
Bro. How many ROM & RAM on your iPad?
Thank you for this! This is such a cool piece of software.
I’m so excited!!! Can’t wait to buy this!!
can I do animation without adding stuff to it Like what if I had a character can, I animate the arms and mouth without adding or erasing and adding the arms and mouth back? (hope this makes sense)
Yeah if i understand you correctly you can just animate objects, you don’t have to draw every new frame
@@CharacterDesignForge so I can animate what is already there? Good to know
How can you import brushes from Procreate? I tried but I can’t find anything that will give me that option
With procreate dreams open, do split screen to open procreate image to access brush menu. Drag brush onto procreate dream.
You are my hero for making this!! Omg so glad I found your videos
Woah, I’ve been using procreate for years and I don’t keep up with it haha.
I’m a few minutes in but I just wanted to ask now, how do you import your procreate brushes into dreams? I don’t have an apple pencil to draw with and the stabilizers aren’t adjustable in dreams so it’s very difficult to start drawing
I believe you drag and drop the brushes you want from procreate into dreams! The official account for dreams said this themselves and that the brush studio will be a procreate exclusive feature.
@@Dragon_Island Easiest is open both and drag brush from Procreate’s brush menu and drop on Dreams screen.
@7:22 I can’t seem to rotate the frame I’m trying to rotate, I’ve selected the frame much like in your video but it’s not showing the half circle 😢
Did you tap the red corner you'd like to rotate from to bring up the quarter circle?
@@CharacterDesignForgeah there it is😅 haha thank you - I can now continue on with your tutorial.
(Also, I’ve been looking for a good tutorial video all day, I’ve probably watched 2-3 videos and yours by far is the most useful one. I even watched this one video of a dude who used to work in Disney showcase procreate dreams and I couldn’t follow whatever he was teaching. But your doing a good job at a step by step tutorial so - I thought I’d let you know your doing great job. Thank you for the quick response!)
Do you do any online classes
Thank you..🥀
But.. What do we choose at the beginning?
Draw OR Empty??
And What is the difference between them🤔
Is there a difference?
There's a significant learning curve and I found myself stopping what I was trying to do and go for a tutorial. This is normal, as they wanted a completely new experience but at least, I wish the Procreate team used some icons that are already a convention. One example: the keyframe icon... the icon they use is globally used for "crop", why not use the diamond icon or a dot?
That being said, the app is powerfull and very interesting.
And thank you so much for you video, of course!
I don’t have an Apple Pencil should I still get it?
I’ve had Procreate for a year now, I’m still not super good 😅
This app definitely needs the pencil for a lot of the functionality- and I'd really recommend it for both apps (you'll see a lot of improvement!)
My man nobody waited to open the app 😂😂😂
Quick question can you draw with your fingers in procreat dreams
yes you can
the set looks great brookes
You did a great job on this project sir
Why thank you!
@@CharacterDesignForge no problem
does procreate dreams have brush stabilizer .
Yep! It retains what ever stabilization and streamline settings the brush had in the Brush Studio before importing it.
Sorry what do mean when importing from brush studio?@@CharacterDesignForge
Thanks for the great intro, initially I had a hard time finding things. But these things just take time.
Just got an iPad Air with procreate! Just waiting for the pencil to come in! It’s killing me cause I want to jump right in!!
Is there a shape tool? Because I haven’t been able to make circles, lines, squares, or poly lines in procreate dreams by holding my pen down
There's none yet. Also, if you check, there's no proper area selection tool, if i correctly remember
can't wait to watch this later!! Gonna buy dreams tonight ahhh so excited!! :D
Rescinded my original comment and did some more research. It looks like this is app will be a huge step forward in making animation accessible to more people.
How would you import a brush from procreate?
Split the screen to import the brushes from procreate into procreate Dreams
@@owlsgurl thank you
@@wrandoms7598 you're welcome 😊

Nah if I dont understand it immediately throw the whole app out smh
dude why can't i shift the position of layers
How do you export the animations?
that same menu where you tap the name of the file on the left, there;s a place to export toward the bottom left!
@@CharacterDesignForge Thank you!
Thank you for this video :)
I have a question, I want to start making videos where my animation can move to the beat of a sound like they do in music videos can this be done from just my iPad on procreatedreams? I’m aware of the after effects method using the pc just wondering if you can do the same on iPad? Thanks!
Myself and some other users can’t get the export video option to work. Some menu option are missing when exporting (shown in other RUclips videos) and the export fails
There’s a patch to the app live that should fix that as of last night

Do you think this program can be used for comic-motion projects?
One of the biggest things I was thinking about with it, yeah. Especially if the comics are layered procreate files/easy to port to Procreate
Awesome. I was recently doing a motion comic project with After Effects. But I think Procreate Dreams looks like it can become that program I use specifically for it. @@CharacterDesignForge
