Thanks for the review of this computer I have also been comparing this computer to the Acer Nitro 5 Both are good value for the money but I am going with the MSI !
Hello I have bought this laptop 3 weeks ago and this is my personal experience. First thing is the noise, I can pretty sure that it is in an acceptable range, even if i play esport games as CSGO at 144hz I can’t hardly hear the fans. Secondly, I don’t like the keyboard much because there is no numbpad ( for a college student like me, numbpad is essential, so I always use extended keyboard). And the third is about the connection ports, on the right side of this GF65 Thin we have 2 type C, 2 USB-A, 1 3.5mm jack, and on the left side there is a HDMI port. I can say these ports are not enough with me, as a normal gamer I use headphone, mouse, keyboard and they are all using USB-A so when playing games I usually have to choose between them ( I usually play CSGO so I choose headphone + mouse). But in conclusion, this is a decent laptop in its price range, especially you will get a RTX 3060 ( although it’s a Max-Q design but pretty strong, I can estimate that it’s stronger than 2060 mobile ). Now thanks for the video and Merry Xmas and then Happy New Year for everyone !
I got mines 1400 but I got 2tb ssd space i5 50500 3060 rtx slim gf65, im gunna piggy back off of OP since I got the laptop around the same time and at first I was a bit dissapointed on how small it was even with no numpad, and how rapidly hot it gets near the bottom of the screen when gaming BUT very impressed how well it holds up with constant whole day gaming. As for the usb port I would get a cooling pad with an extra usb to plugin extra nececcities
@@alexsayadeth6804 Although, there's more than what it meets the eye. Because the rtx 3060 is a max q variant. As well with the CPU bug that somehow tricked the CPU thinking that when you're plugged in, it is on battery when it is not. From what I had heard just unplug then plug it back in fixes it. And from my experience sometimes the trackpad, keyboard and all ports randomly after boot disabled.

After some upgrades I have seen people get pretty decent performance on the new Microsoft Flight Simulator on high settings. I bought a simple laptop stand and small desktop fan to help cooling further. I plan on putting 64 GB Ram and a 1 TB SSD in it here soon. I cannot wait to see how it works then. I am not expecting fabulous performance, but if I can get 40 to 50 fps on Flight Simulator 2020 on high settings, then I will be happy until I can piece together and build a really decent tower that can handle simulators at max realism.

Glad to see MSI blocking vents on their gf65 thin. You know the thermals are gonna be great when they take a page out of asus's book. Why would they not put any vents below the fans directly? Every well cooled laptop does this? Heck if msi did that, this would genuinely make up for the lower powered 75w rtx 3060. I have an EVOO Gaming (walmart) laptop. Keeping all else equal, it has a desktop-variant GTX 1660ti and i7-9750H. Is migrating to this MSI with a laptop-variant RTX 3060 and i5-10500H a worthy step up? Now, how about for $200? That's the difference in $ of the MSI (bought on sale $850) minus the approx. $ I can sell the EVOO. According to UserBenchmarks, the 3060 (laptop) is a tad better than the desktop 1660ti (52nd vs. 60th place) and the i7-9750H is a good amount lower than the i5-10500H (176th vs 77th place). I'm just trying to determine if I should be looking to toss the EVOO or if it should be fine for another year or two... or wait for Black Friday 2021?
I dont think you would notice too much of an improvement for the money you are spending, espically if the 1660ti in the laptop is already an 80w or higher GPU
Could you compare this(i7-10750h, 3060 maxq, 8gb RAM, SSD 512GB, *65W*) to Lenovo LEGION 5 15ARH R7 ZEN PLUS (4800h,1660ti, 8gb RAM, SSD 256GB)? Main purpose is 3D modeling like Solideworks, and some coding. It's almost same price.
No sorry I can't really compare the two I'm an AMD fanboy but the 3060.. then again it's a 65w model, would be curious as to what wattage the 1660ti is But the video linked below is my mentioning why I don't do direct compare answers ruclips.net/video/Di0SSGYtOGw/видео.html
Also an AMD fanboy for laptop cpu's but with the doubled storage from the intel and much stronger gpu it really is a no brainer on the hardware side for the most part. The lenovosLegions are nice though, just not a good enough hardware value imo vs the msi if both at the same price. Still gotta add that second stick of RAM on both of them, but again, the stronger gpu will increase in lead and the cpu is within spitting distance. Battery life would be better on the ryzen, by about an hour of video playback from the videos ive seen, but that isnt taking what size of batteries are in the 2 units. If the same, the ryzen wins fairly hard. Same goes for performance on battery vs the intel. Big win for the ryzen system and perhaps even for your use case, but myself as a gamer looks at the msi as the stronger overall package.
It's not a 40w GPU, even your Afterburner overlay shows it pulling more than that. MSI lists it as a 75W GPU....... that's not to say that maybe for some reason yours isn't performing a little worse than average, but it's definitely not a 40W GPU.
My Whole time with this laptop it never cracked 40w Im failing to trust MSI's Stats, these days The MSI Sword 15 i got say on expansion slows is 1x 2.5 1x NVMe and the laptop actually has 2x NVMe
@@rickstechrepairs I think you may have some software issues going on, maybe even BIOS issues. I actually have this same laptop, and not only does mine consistently hit 70+ watts on the GPU, as confirmed not only by Afterburner, but HWINFO64 as well..... the performance in games is also about right where you would expect it to be for a laptop 3060 GPU @75W...... which is honestly pretty impressive considering on Black Friday this thing was selling for $850. My only complaint is the fans are loud when you adjust the curve up to keep things cooled down.
Should I go for this GF65 with the i5 10500H and RTX 3060 (75W), or an 11th gen i5 laptop with the 3050 Ti? I'm worried about any overheat issue with the 10th gen i5
i'm super late to the party but unless i am completely mistaken the 3050ti consists of 4gb of vram. If you wanna get the best bang for your buck i highly recommend shoot at or above 6gb vram.
will i get more fps with an external monitor bro ? i aldready have the laptop but just asking cz i saw ur other video where u compared the performance coming from the laptop monitor vs external monitor just wanted to be sure before i buy a monitor.
I just saw your reviews many times about the MSI GF65 Thin and the Gigabyte G5 Kc and i still don’t know which one to choose can you please help me (it’s for gaming and normal tasks) Love your job 👍
I cant tell you which one is better as there is too many smaller differences you might rather than myself I did feel the GF65 was more refined but also had less gaming power than the G5
I prefer the MSI over the Gigabyte, but if you want raw power then go the Gigabyte G5 But i prefer the the better more balanced machine with acceptable battery life, better build quality, quieter machine while web-browsing
i paid $1800 for the MSI not on special, getting it closer to $1600 would be a better deal. the Asus TUF A15, i haven't had any experience with so i cannot comment on that.. .. But i do think it would be better than the G5
@@rickstechrepairs thanks, this would be my first gaming laptop, so which option would be better in your opinion because I know nothing about laptops lol.
I cut holes in the bottom with a dremel and I disabled turbo boost via throttle stop, that gives you the best performance and temps in all the configurations I've tested. It stays around 78 when gaming.
I have had a gaming laptop before and it works for gaming and a heater for winter time. Best of both worlds. The gaming laptop I had was nowhere near as powerful as this one but ran well on medium settings and honestly had a better time playing on a laptop than the next Gen xbox series x. The endless choices of mod menu's and a bigger more friendly community of gamers kept me happy everytime I opened a game up and got on discord with my friends. The only reason I would want this specific laptop is because of money of course but also it is a more powerful machine than my last gaming laptop.

You're opening the laptop with one hand? That's shocking for an MSI laptop. The hinge isn't unusually tight and clunky like most of their other models? My GL63 8RD (which is a bit older than this one) is the usual MSI kind, very tight, to the point that it broke in a corner (the hinge itself, not screen) due to the tightness. I guess they finally learned their lesson. When I looked up the issue with mine I saw it was something common with the brand (ASUS reportedly had some models with very tight hinges too). ...40W 3060 though? Seriously? Why did they even bother putting a 3060 in the darn thing? That's just sad. :(
I used a Kingston A2000 1TB but now days with this not available i would go with either SN550 1TB or a Kingston KC2500 1TB i think i used Crucial 3200mhz 16GB x2

Ok, this particular laptop is much more fragile than it looks. Especially when you want to take the motherboard out. Because a single plate screw can ruin it, which it is what holding the bottom part of the motherboard. I had caused a short on my gaming laptop by my own stupid mistake. So you need to be very careful with taking it apart.

No sorry I can't really compare the two
I'm an AMD fanboy but the 3060.. then again it's a 65w model, would be curious as to what wattage the 1660ti is
But the video linked below is my mentioning why I don't do direct compare answers
ruclips.net/video/Di0SSGYtOGw/видео.html

Hello🤚🏽 is this enough for 3D works or render in MAYA ? Btw I ’m just a student not professional

It's not a 40w GPU, even your Afterburner overlay shows it pulling more than that. MSI lists it as a 75W GPU....... that's not to say that maybe for some reason yours isn't performing a little worse than average, but it's definitely not a 40W GPU.
My Whole time with this laptop it never cracked 40w

@@rickstechrepairs I think you may have some software issues going on, maybe even BIOS issues. I actually have this same laptop, and not only does mine consistently hit 70+ watts on the GPU, as confirmed not only by Afterburner, but HWINFO64 as well..... the performance in games is also about right where you would expect it to be for a laptop 3060 GPU @75W...... which is honestly pretty impressive considering on Black Friday this thing was selling for $850. My only complaint is the fans are loud when you adjust the curve up to keep things cooled down.

I would go for the 3060 as it easily out powers the 3050ti
i'm super late to the party but unless i am completely mistaken the 3050ti consists of 4gb of vram. If you wanna get the best bang for your buck i highly recommend shoot at or above 6gb vram.

Depending on GPU in the Alienware , should be a good upgrade
Quick question which one would be better, this or the ASUS TUF Core i5 rtx 3050? (The msi is $850 USD and the asus is $799 USD)
Im not a fan of the 3050, they are like a refresh of the 1650Ti with Ray Tracing

I cut holes in the bottom with a dremel and I disabled turbo boost via throttle stop, that gives you the best performance and temps in all the configurations I've tested. It stays around 78 when gaming.
Excellent, i think stopping turbo boost will help the most
I have had a gaming laptop before and it works for gaming and a heater for winter time.
Cheers, the pc world and mods is great.
@@rickstechrepairs you guys sound like you work for a company getting paid for these reviews. lol i have this laptop, and i happen to be a network / IT engineer who also builds gaming rigs. this laptop is a 6/10 all day which is a compliment. but it could have had better battery life. facts. hopefully consumers will read this.
