A compilation video of shots filmed over the last five years of our two BR 'Britannia' class Pacifics, No.70000 'Britannia' and No.70013 'Oliver Cromwell' in action on the mainline.
Austin, that was nineteen minutes of sheer joy....a wonderful tribute to the two 'Brits' with stunning images and fantastic locations along the way ...Thanks for the effort...Bob
Many thanks Bob, I was surprised at how much material I had especially when the pair of them don't do too much of their work up north. Certainly made me realise how much mainline steam is being missed
Thanks what beautiful loco's the Brittania's are! I saw Brittania at her display in the festival of Britain, I was just a young lad. I've lived in the USA for many years, but I've never forgotten my train spotting adventures. Thanks for the memories!
Great filming. Fantastic scenery locations as well as super shots of the trains. Loooove the footage through the snow..2.00. this video is going to the top of my favourites. It's almost as good as being there, almost. Excellent work.
This is steam video at its very best. Two wonderful locos hard at work on revenue earning trains 60+ years after they were built, expertly shot by a master of his craft. How can three people 'not like' this?!
Fantastic Austin , it is surprising just how much footage we accumulate at the lineside . Wonderful sight and sound with snow thrown in as a cracking bonus . I may have a crack at something similar .
Thanks Steve, as you say it is surprising how much footage we gather, I never thought I had this much on Brits and there was quite a bit left out too! You must have enough for a noisy Scot compilation. It keeps us happy during the ban anyhow!
Well it ain't hanging about is it.? Very well put together . Fantastic piece of work. The filming of from various locations . Thank you very much for sharing your film. It was very pleasant and a joy to watch . Thank you once again
A superb video Austin of the "Brits". Some wonderful locations in a vast different weather conditions. This shows how much we like these machines working on main line. They are poetry in motion and a the moment truly missed. Hurry back steam. C&A
Thanks very much, like you I really thought when putting this together how much we would miss scenes like these if there was less steam in the future. Hopefully it'll eventually be sorted
This is a super follow up video of 'Britannia' for me Austin, after her recent appearance at The WSR's Spring Gala. They say you can never get enough of a good thing....yep, i agree with that one wholeheartedly !!! A really superb compilation of both the Brits...a 'must see' video for all Fans. Well done...best wishes....Steve.~.
Thanks very much Bob. I've always had a soft spot for the Brits especially after having been on a few excursions hauled by 70013 around 1967-8. Now where did all those years go and how did I get old!
They are favourites of mine as well. I saw 70013 a number of times in the early 60s at Stratford on trains from Liverpool Street. My liking for Britannia stems from a double-page cutaway drawing in a childrens' encyclopedia - a birthday present in the late 50s, which I still have. I suppose the fact that we still remember that far back is a good thing!
Great compilation of shots and locations Austin. Thanks for giving us something to watch during the current steam shutdown following WCRC's problems! Cheers, Dave.
Cheers Dave, at least you're not too bad in the south with Clan Lines outings to give you the steam fix. I bet Steam Dreams wish they'd stayed with DBS!
acw71000 Hehe. Clan Line is out next Friday and I suspect that every location will be crammed with photographers trying to get their steam fix! Cheers, Dave.
Très belle prise de vue sur l'ouvrage d'art de ce pont en de magnifiques pierres de voûte !!! c'est très beau aussi les vaches sous le viaduc ! La nature est joliment représenté dans l'ensemble des choix filmés associé aux trains ! Merci ! Un bonjour de FRANCE le 12/12/17 ( Vesoul )
Many thanks Alan, it gives me the shivers just thinking about it but no, there wasn't a fence, the bullocks chased me out of the field, never ran so fast in all my life! I wouldn't mind but it was a public footpath too
A superb collection of shots Austin, capturing some fine sights and sounds of the Brit's giving it their all on the mainline. Will I being seeing you next week up on the NYMR? Shame Kinlet can't make it but it's still shaping up to be a good gala and the weather looks promising too.
Hi Sam, thanks very much. My wife and I are coming up for Friday and Saturday so we'll probably see you about in all the usual spots. I was looking forward to hearing Kinlet barking up the gradients but hopefully she may make it some other time
Hi Austin, Just a quick question, between 8:42 and 9:24 your at the location of Birkett Common on the S&C. Is that going southbound towards Settle? Cheers Jeff
From New York, thank you for sharing your creation. I liked every scene, but to me, the one of the train racing across the viaduct, 14:30, was especially memorable. Can you tell me where it is?
Thanks Noel, I have done one or two featuring the mighty Duke a few years ago but they were in VHS so not the best quality, here's the link to one on the S & C ruclips.net/video/jKGkBpwoqag/видео.html
Cheers, I wouldn't say bored as the ban offers new opportunities to visit more preserved lines and film a bit more modern freight that I've never got round to
Wenn die Schafe auf der Weide fliehen, macht der Meister seine Sache gut. translate.eu: If the sheeps on the meadow flee, the locomotive driver do his thing very well.
I like these engines, they're not pretty, no attempt at streamlining or beautification, you can see post war austerity in their design, what they do have is a raw, brutal, functional design, an excellent, awe inspiring piece of industrial machinery .
Magnificent photography and sound recording and superb locations. Oh what a feast! Wonderful
Many thanks for your kind comments. I'm pleased you enjoyed the video
Superb compilation. These locomotives "Britannia" class are really magnificent. Thank you Austin.
Philippe
Merci Philippe. Ils sont l'une de mes classes préférées de locomotive

A very nice compilation.

Nice work, Austin. Keeps us fed on our addiction!
Thanks Alan, putting it together made me realise how much we need mainline steam and how lucky we have been to have had so much over the years
Great compilation Austin, everytime I see 70013 it always seems to be in great from. Regards JamesandPeter
Thank you, the Brits always seem to put on a good show, one of my favourite classes of engine
Great video
Truly amazing
Many thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it
No problem mate😀
Thanks Austin. A brilliant reminder of how sharp the Brit exhausts sounded. By the way, was there a fence between you and the bullocks? Regards Alan
Many thanks Alan, it gives me the shivers just thinking about it but no, there wasn't a fence, the bullocks chased me out of the field, never ran so fast in all my life! I wouldn't mind but it was a public footpath too
Trade Mark stuff from you again! Locos driven to the limit, mostly up hill and noisy. Loved it.
Thanks, I don't think there's a lot to beat the sound of a hard working Britannia
There's a look of determination about them too!

That's correct Jeff, southbound

Hi Dane and thanks for your kind comments. The shot you mention is the Cefn Mawr Viaduct near Chirk in Wales.
Brilliant. del.
Thank you!
Superb as always Austin.
Will we see one on The Duke?
Noel
Thanks Noel, I have done one or two featuring the mighty Duke a few years ago but they were in VHS so not the best quality, here's the link to one on the S & C ruclips.net/video/jKGkBpwoqag/видео.html
Beautiful Sound!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-)

So true! Many people comment on the sights but it’s the sound that stirs the emotions!
Austin, another great footage, what's the name of station at the end ?
Thanks John, that is the fine Roman city of Chester

Wow
Lovely clear footage, which camera do you use?
Thanks, most of these shots were captured on a Panasonic X920. I'm currently using a Panasonic X870
Sounds like an iron horse at gallop.
Yes, Britannias are noisy locos!
Nice compilation. Bored following the WCR ban?
Cheers, I wouldn't say bored as the ban offers new opportunities to visit more preserved lines and film a bit more modern freight that I've never got round to

Quite true, many thanks
👍
Thanks
Steam engines bring back very good memories..
They do indeed, thanks for watching
fired one once washwoodheath to oxford
Wow, that must have been wonderful, hard work though for the fireman
Only in England! Aren't we so very lucky?
Definitely, and not always appreciated just how much steam we can still enjoy
I like these engines, they're not pretty, no attempt at streamlining or beautification, you can see post war austerity in their design, what they do have is a raw, brutal, functional design, an excellent, awe inspiring piece of industrial machinery .
You've summed up the Britannias perfectly. I do think they are quite an attractive design though
A PITY MORE BRITTANIAS WERE NOT SAVED, A BIG UNBALANCE AGAINST 18 BLACK 5.S !!.
Yes, useful locos able to go pretty well everywhere
