    Awesome! I just discovered your channel a few days ago, and have watched the intercooler video at least 3 times now- You're an artist! I am setting up to TIG weld 0.020 aluminum sheet (very thin) regularly, and my small shop only has 110V electric, not 220V... is there a particular welder you'd recommend? I'm down to a Square wave TIG 200 from Lincoln, or a Miller Syncrowave 210, but that's only after talking to Lincoln or Miller sales people, not someone who *KNOWS* welding aluminum like this... is there a machine or brand for very light aluminum sheet TIG that you'd recommend for good quality work that won't be used for anything else, and no heavy production work?

      Right on dude! It can be welded on really any acdc machine. I did airplane prop covers that were .020 and .034 with an old transformer syncrowave back in the day so the machine doesnt matter that much. Im also sponsored by htp so i have to mention the dual voltage invertig221. But just get what you can afford! The higher end the machine the longer it should last and weld. The cheap ones work great but dont hold up to a ton of use. Also i just run my inver221 off of my 30 amp dryer plug! I just ran an extension cord to my shop. Good luck bud!

    A lot of people are picky about cleaning aluminum. I’ve been hearing that when wire brushing it, the brush should move in one direction like brushing hair ... rather than back and forth like brushing teeth. What’s your experience and practices? I know it’s subjective to different situations.

    • @5thStreetFab
      @5thStreetFab  4 года назад +1

      Ya i like to brush everything before tacking parts together to get it cleaned the best. That way doesnt seem to matter if you brush one way or back and forth. If its tacked together its better to go one diraction. But it takes 3 times longer to clean. Bakck and forth will imbed more crud in the joint.

    • @tommylud4324
      @tommylud4324 4 года назад

      5th Street Fab so maybe if you haven’t tacked it yet, back n forth might be not as bad as when it’s already tacked.

      @johnseptien3138 4 года назад

      @@5thStreetFab If you look at your included angle in the video you can see it is not 90 degrees. This would indicate your bevel angle is not "45 degrees". Common pipe bevel angle on carbon, stainless and Al is 27 1/2 degrees. Your included angle looks to be very close to that.

      @@5thStreetFab I have never done a cp weld on thin wall aluminum pipe , but I see how a bevel works for such applications.

    • @WickedMoto
      @WickedMoto 4 года назад

      @@johnseptien3138 I think he was just meaning in the video that he held the aluminum pipe to the belt sander at a 45 degree angle. And if the belt sander wan't in a perfect 90 degree angle and it was tilted forward or back im still sure with his experience that he has and how long he's been doing this, he has a good enough eye to hold the pipe at a 45 to the belt sander. Now whether or not that makes a 45 degree bevel, who knows. The point is to just make a bevel on the thicker pipe to get better penetration which is what he likes to do. It doesn't have to be that specific. It's just for penetration that's it, nothing more. Just put a bevel on it so you can have better penetration is the point he's trying to get across.

    • @johnseptien3138
      @johnseptien3138 4 года назад +1

      @@WickedMoto If you've ever been looked out by an inspector for "fit-up" or "weld prep" you'll know what I'm talking about. Called for angles are critical and understanding the difference between bevel angle and "inclusive" angle are tantamount. They are either called out on the print or specified in the code procedure. (Or WPS) So, I guess if you're just a job shop and doing walk-in repairs not code work or Welding to Procedural Specifications you're good to go. Grind what ever angle you want to get "pen" and crack on!
