People say get lyrics, I disagree. The first time hearing a tune it’s too distracting. Get into the vibe, then go back and check lyrics, research meaning etc. You’re not writing a dissertation, you’re enjoying music. Tool is so deep and involved you get something new with each listen.

@@spiderbass65 I totally feel that. I remember loving it when they put the lyrics in the CD jackets lol. I just think with amount of music they cover sometimes they just move on. I don’t know. Tool was formed in California around 1991 as a 'joke' band by guitarist (and special effects wizard) Adam Jones, who named the band after his backyard tool shed 😂 Maynard James Keenan (vocals), Danny Carey (drums) and Paul D'Amour (bass) rounded out the band... they recorded an EP 'Opiate' as a first release in 1992 (It was a joke - EP's are usually released after a major record, not as a debut release)... But w/ Nirvana and Pearl Jam scoring huge hits in 1992, Tool was signed by a label. They delivered a full album 'Undertow' in 1993, which was a mix of heavy, early Black Sabbath & Pink Floyd's odd visuals. The record was a success after 2 music videos debuted on MTV - 'Sober' and 'Prison sex'... which were completely animated & directed by Jones.
Around 1995, Paul D'amour was replaced by bassist Justin Chancellor... Tool released the 'Aenima' album in 1996 that got them on the charts and a Grammy award. They also delivered more complex and articulate song arrangements from their first 2 records.
Legal issues w/ their label delayed the next album 'Lateralus', which arrived 5 years later in 2001, but hit #1 on the US charts and was another major success... Tool was a strange band to witness in concert as singer Maynard James Keenan sang from the back of the stage, rather than be up front like most singers.
This record '10,000 days' was released in 2006 and was another #1 charting success... However, mounting legal and personal obstacles would push a new Tool record 13 years later... the next album 'Fear inoculum' arrived in 2019 and was a #1 charting success yet again, and generated huge fanfare for Tool on tour.

    • @robertsaterlie4124

Just a caveat to your comment. Maynard's mother, a devout Christian woman of faith, lived (survived) for 10,000 days longer after having an aneurysm when he was 11 yrs old. She was paralyzed and existed in a figurative living hell for those 10,000 or so days before passing. The songs "wings for Marie" (parts 1 and 2) are him mourning and presenting a eulogy for her and her time in the fire and being able to finally go home.

To keep the Tool fans, I would suggest adding a lyric analysis and a little more discussion. The best reactors seem to break things down and add their thoughts. The pure quick reactions don't seem to do as well (in my opinion). Eventually people will ask you to react to all Tool. I think jumping around is ok though many prefer doing albums in order, but as long as you get a mix to see their evolution that should be fine.

This song is aimed at all the politicians, judges, and cops who fight against weed legalization, all the while using it themselves. They're "eyeballs deep in muddy water." They are The Pot "pissing on my black kettle." Tool's lyrics are often very deep and carry more than one meaning. You need to hear "Aenima" about how terrible L.A. is and his hopes that it will be flushed out to the ocean.

The Pot is a good song to start with when it comes to Tool. Maynard is a genius! He’s been through a lot of bad stuff in his life and his music reflects that.

Tool is such a technically diverse band. Danny Carey is a BEAST on drums and Maynard on vocals is a maniac. I recommend Stinkfist, Aenima and Prison Sex.

I'm gonna take this opportunity to recommend a song I've never seen anyone else recommend. It's called Eulogy. It doesn't get the love it should in all honesty. Admittedly because it's not considered "conventional" lyrically 🤷‍♂️

If you count each Tool track as separate songs (as in, separate Parabol/Parabola, or Disposition/Reflection/Triad), Eulogy is my favorite song. If you don't split those songs and instead count them as one, D/R/T is my favorite.

I saw tool in 02. They performed with the French circus. Guys had extensions on their arms so it looked like humans walking around with four legs.

Everyone will just recommend another tool song for you to react to -- I will do the same however, I will also highly recommend some song synopsis videos along with them. 1st, How TOOL Used Math To Create "Lateralus": ruclips.net/video/uOHkeH2VaE0/видео.html and next, the song: Lateralus - ruclips.net/video/FwmoB7Wf7_Y/видео.html.
    And 2nd, 46 & 2 (on Jung, Peterson, and TOOL): ruclips.net/video/5vodKWIc638/видео.html and next, the song: 46 & 2 - ruclips.net/video/ogzRhlezx2s/видео.html

Tool albums (in order of release)
    Opiate
    Undertow
    AEnima
Salival (Box set, has a few covers, and live performances, that deserve distinction, in particular; No Quarter (Zeplin cover), and the live version of Pushit)
    Lateralus
    10,000 Days
    Fear Inocculum
You really can't go wrong, Tool hasn't released any "bad" albums, and no two albums sound the same.

Vicarious, The Patient, Pneuma, 7empest (yes that is spelled correctly). These are some solid TOOL songs.
