The worst part of hearing TOOL for the first time is you can never hear TOOL for the first time ever again.
I may actually be an exception to that rule. I saw TOOL in '92 or '93 not even knowing who they were. I went only because it was the 5th and final day of the trip, and my ride home was dead set on going to the State Palace theater for one last rave party. Well, before the rave kicked off at a lil after midnight, there was some rock or punk or some whatever fukn band had the place booked for a 9pm show.
At this point I was absolutely cooked. We'd drank gallons of alcohol, smoked easily a lb of weed, ate probably 100 tabs of xtc and a 1\4 sheet of acid. I was fukn done with New Orleans. I went to the State Palace bitching and moaning. Well, it wasn't my car and this fukn rave isn't for like 5 hrs so sure I'll buy a ticket to see this horrible band at 9oclock ..... Well, that band was TOOL. They played the 6 Opiate tracks, absolutely destroyed the place, and I was left standing screaming at my friends like the 19yr old bro I was, "Holy fuck dude! That shit was nuts!".......and then I forgot all about them until 1995 when I saw the Sober video on MTV. Even then it didn't click. I kept hearing Sober on the radio still not putting 2 and 2 together, until one day I heard the dj credit the band "TOOL for that last track, 'Sober' the debut from the...blah blah"
That was it, it clicked and I remember getting hyped thinking, "oh shit! That's that band we saw at the State Palace! Fuck I'd forgotten all about that band."
I drove my ass to the record store right then and bought Opiate and Undertow. I had been able to experience hearing them for the 1st time twice without realizing it and I wouldn't change any of it. Fukn great times
Well put
i gently disagree. been listening to this band since 20 years and everytime i listen to one of their songs i legitimely listen to a different song. every new listen makes me discover nueances, shades, sounds and hidden meanings i never noticed before.
This man speaks the truth.
@@scottw5253 I didn't see them quite that early but I did in 1996 and I had never listened to them before seeing them either. I've now been a massive Tool fan since!
I love seeing people discover Tool. It never gets old
NEVER!!!!
nope. It's gotten to the point where every day I look for Tool reaction videos lol because I love seeing tool fans being born
Same 📤
This is precisely what got me into reaction videos tbh. Grew up with r&b,rap and then rock and metal. Been through too many emotions to count lol. Loved every step of the way and still am descovering new stuff every day. Wouldn't have it any other way. 🤘🏻
Right? just find myself smiling the whole time lol it’s the best ☺️
I’m always hunting for more first time tool reactions, and I always seem to say the same things:
The band is composed of 4 remarkable musicians
Don’t watch the music videos
Make sure to read the lyrics
Tool is a DEEP rabbit hole that is VERY easy to fall into and they will get better with each and every listen
Enjoy the journey my friend, you don’t know what you’re getting yourself into
couldnt of said it better myself....
Agreed on all counts.
Can I cut and paste this? :),
@@joeroberts1408 have at it
But also, do watch their music videos, Adam Jones is an award winning artist that created much of the artwork for Tools album and video material. Saying don't watch the music videos is like saying "listen to the song but don't worry about the lyrics". I agree for a first time listener that would be a little too much to take in, but not enough credit is given to the tremendous artwork this band also produces.
Any TOOL song is an amazing song! Lateralus is a beautiful masterpiece! Tool is like no other!! Enjoy
They are like A perfect circle, and puscifer 😂😂😂
@@TheJdh420 Ahhhhh, I see what you did there. Very topical my dude, and also very true, Maynard sprays his creative seeds anywhere he wants and flowers or babies just start blooming in his wake.
@@TheJdh420 only one of the three sound like Tool, no one on earth plays instruments similar to the way those three do together, unless they're attempting to play Tool
Lateralus w/ lyrics or lyric video and headphones of course!
'Lateralus' just the one I wanna recommend, the only Tool song I listen to when i was young without knowing the band or any other song, I discoverd TOOL the band 18 years later and then I searched that song that made me think of them they could have bring that out : 'Lateralus' and realized it was a song of them, I was like : Ok Fun that makes sense now ;) . Nice discovery 18 yeras later LOL
I love watching Tool fans be born. Makes me feel like I'm hearing them for the first time all over again.
Would you say , you are living vicariously through them ?
A lot of reaction channels play it up a bit too much, I like how genuine and honest this was. Tool is definitely a band that warrants a few rewinds to reflect on what the fuck you just heard.
🔥👽Welcome to the TOOL ARMY👽🔥
Pneuma is amazing and then the drum cam on drummer Danny Carey as they perform it LIVE in concert, unbelievable track homie!!
What he said. Man, I love watching Tool fans being born.
Danny Carey is BADASS doing Pneuma live!
I probably saw same video! Unbelievable drummer!
I was about to recomend the same vid.
Pneuma Drum Cam is amazing. The guy is almost 60 in the video and killing it!
"Invincible" by far the best track.
If you're really letting us pick what you listen to you're going to be listening to a lot of Tool in the near future lol
Facts
Tool's basslines don't get enough credit. They are so killer.
If there is ever an interstellar music festival, Tool will be Earth's representative!
Show me what you got.
the greatest thing is finding people discover Tool. you need to see them live if you can. its unreal. it aint Tool if you aint sweatin! you should check out their cover of Led Zeppelin’s No Quarter if you really want to go on a journey!! 🤟🏼
Im seeing them live for the first time next tuesday in Orlando and im freakin stoked!
No, he shouldn't listen to a cover from Tool as his second listen. That's way down the rabbit hole. Hooker with a Penis would be a great second.
This is one of their more tame, and less complicated songs, they really push the boundaries, but in a strangely accessible way
seeing them live is a mind blowing experience
Welcome to the wonderful world of Tool...my suggestion for your next Tool song is 46 & 2....
Other bands to check out:
Rage Against the Machine...these guys are unique also: rap/metal/funk fusion. The guitarist will blow your mind, he can make a guitar sound like someone scratching on a turntable. The lyrics, another reactor described it as naz level conscious hip hop.
Soundgarden
System of a Down
Alice in chains
TOOL overpasses RITM....
Need to check out the Drum Cam Video for Danny Carey for the song Pneuma. He is the Tool Drummer! You won't be Disappointed!
I live vicariously through first time Tool reactions. In my opinion they are the best band ever. Their musicianship and their creativity are miles above the rest. Their lyrics and subjects are deep, thought provoking and at times extremely emotional. I recommend starting from the very beginning and listen to every one of their albums in order so you can see how they evolved over time but if you go out of order I would suggest Vicarious, Schism, Ænema, Eulogy, Sober, Prison Sex, The Grudge, Parabol/Parabola, Stinkfist, Bottom, Third Eye, Hooker With A Penis, Right In Two, Pneuma, Tempest....I'm sure there's a few that I am forgetting but these are some of their best songs but all of them are great.
Watching people hear TOOL for the first time is almost as good as going back in time and hearing TOOL for the first time myself. It's the next best thing. Now, if I could only SEE them in concert for the first time again. 🤘😁🤘
Perfect starter track for Tool! So much more great music to explore from this special band. I'd suggest avoiding their music videos because they're super weird and too distracting for first listens. Not many quality live performances online for Tool, but I'd highly recommend watch their '93 performance of Sober from the Reading Festival. Enjoy the ride!
The 2007 paris concert on youtube is a great quality live performance of 10,000 days
Everyone has this universal reaction, especially to this song. This song is from another world, truly
Welcome to the tool side....😎🤘
You gotta know mate, that tool has two epic guitar player's, maybe , arguably the greatest drummer walking earth right now.
And a lead singer who is very eccentric and probably has a iq of 200 and is a black belt in jiu-jitsu and has a wine vineyard.
I feel sorry for folks who haven't heard tool..
It's like never hearing Jimi Hendrix or Elvis...😁🤘😎
tool is so good. i recommend Aenima, Lateralus, The Grudge, and Parabol / Parabola (they are like 1 song on the album)
Parabol / Parabola isn't a song, it's a divine experience.
I’ve been listening to this band for many years. I still get the chills even though I know what’s coming
Same
Rhythmic entrainment is just the best feeling
Someone in another comment section said it perfectly "Everyone is a Tool fan some just don't know it... yet" and it's the most accurate comment ever
it really is the truth tho! Tool is that one band that can get EVERYBODY hooked. I had a dental extraction appointment and the 2 women that did it said they will play music to help me relax and I knew my 1st choice would be completely out of the question since I listen to HEAVY metal and I knew it would scare the absolute shit out of them but I told them to turn on Tool and just 1 song made them both go "omg this is amazing!! I can see what you mean by how their music can just calm you and make you want to focus. I understand why you listen to this now when you have anxiety and need to meditate"
40 plus year rock drummer here and i have to say i just love Tool, such a unique style and sound and these guys take it to a A Whole Nother Level ! Welcome to the world of Tool and Great reaction , if i may suggest here on you tube " TOOL - FORTY SIX & 2 - MEYTAL COHEN " female drummer will blow your mind..best of luck man and a thumbs up ! ...
No words to describe Tool the sound, rhythm, tempo feeling, and once u start the rabbit hole on lyrics u will finally realize the absolute genius. Been listening for 20 years and still learning from the music I dont think its even possible to live a life time and fully comprehend the complexity.
This is the true definition of a BAND. All masters of their own domain but no one seeks to be the center. It’s brilliance. And listening to Tool is a spiritual journey. Enjoy it.
YES! Thank you for that. Everyone must hear TOOL. You will never be the same. Pure art
Discovering Tool was a life altering event. Like whole new path, new personality emerged. They have since gotten me through so much. It really is a tool for self growth.
With Tool, I can't suggest enough to stick with the studio versions for your first listens. The engineering intricacies add SO much.
LISTEN TO EVERYTHING! I’ve been listening for 30 years and never tire of them. I love watching people experience them for the first time. It’s so satisfying.
I actually have always thought there was a connection or continuity between Pink Floyd and Tool. Both bands are masters of transporting your mind away and making you feel what they’re doing in a very unique way.
I am a massive Floyd fan as well as Tool. The biggest similarity is that albums are not made for radio play and should be listened as a whole. Floyd was great at concept albums and Tool does the same- except tool does it in a time when concept albums don’t really happen anymore. Other factor is perhaps that all musicians in tool and Floyd were top level at their instruments- including voices as instruments
Just my tuppence worth, Tool are the Pink Floyd of this generation.
There's something about setting people experience Tool for the first time. Even if you aren't a fan of the genre, it's impossible for music lovers to not appreciate the talent in this band.
*SCHISM* is the second song I'd go with. It's a good stepping stone from The Pot to the rest of Tool -- it's catchy but not quite as straightforward in groove. Never watch music videos for your reactions lol.
I think it's too soon for Lateralus (song).
My recommendations would be: Schism, Forty Six & 2, Ænema, The Grudge, Lateralus. *Then* you can get into the newer, better-production-quality songs like Jambi, Invincible, Right in Two, Vicarious, Pneuma, Descending, etc...
i would say prison sex....it sort of on same lvl as the pot...
As a long time TOOL fan (since the Undertow album), I have no argument to the contrary and is a solid progression list!!
Can you believe Lateralus was 21 years ago? Still plays like perfection. Listening to Parabol/Parabola right now. Damn it’s so good
Well every asshole reactiontuber listens to this because some other idiot listened to it and it became a thing. So now they all have to do it...
I like reactions to Stinkfist, especially when they are looking at the lyrics.😀
Still get full body chills hearing this.
Tool gets me right in the guts, hairs on the back of the neck every time. Enjoy the ride, doesn’t get old regardless how many times you listen to any of their songs.
It's never too late to grab hold and Spiral Out...glad you started your TOOL journey 🤘...thanks for the video
The Pot is a nice "gate-way" song for the Tool experience. Be warned, with too much Tool in you life you'll likely to start become bored with other music as they rely on simplistic song structure and repetitive beats and standard timing. "There is no spoon".
This is so true. Tool makes everything else sound very simple and plain.
I'd call The Pot a little more advanced than gateway. Sober, Prison Sex, Sinkfist, etc are all more in the realm of great starter songs IMHO.
So true
Nice wordplay
Listening to Tool it's like a personal experience that you can't describe
Tool is one of those bands that has songs that I could listen to on repeat.
Fire! I just subscribed because you started your Tool journey. Once you hear it you can not unhear it. Welcome to the family. Now get to more Tool! hahah. tips that I promise help just pull up lyrics on phone and use studio tracks and you will not be sacrificing any quality. "Pneuma, 46 and 2, Stinkfist, Sober, Right in Two....Actually, just get a blindfold and a dart then throw it at a wall of Tool songs and you will hit a masterpiece. All songs are my favorite at different times of day or mood. Seriously people know what I mean. Love you man keep it up!
I really appreciated your reaction to TooL & this song (great introduction song, imo). Awesome! Looking forward to more~ Ps...react to Tool Sober Live!
Descending and I'll subscribe
Love that you took it back! Classic
Tool is...........transcendental. Every song is a sound bath, a liquid journey. They do it like that purposefully. Thank you Maynard for your genius gift to us all. 🕉
I see them Live tomorrow for my 4th time and I still get goosebumps and excited.
lucky man! me only 3!
In my opinion TOOL is like the modern day version of PINK FLOYD/ LED ZEPPELIN & RUSH all in one. TOOL actually covered a Led Zeppelin song called “no quarter” which is an unbelievable ride!
Damn, couldn't have said that any better, good stuff Dom.
More King Crimson than Floyd
been watching tool reactions for 2.5 hours this morning... it's been a good morning.
Lyrics are important as Tool is thinking man’s music and deep. But you’ll find yourself spiraling out on the genius rhythms and complexities of how it all goes together. Thanks for covering one of the best bands ever.
Loved your reaction. Best band on the planet. Lateralus, Jambi, The Grudge, Invincible, Eulogy. Kind of fun to start with songs from undertow and opiate, early work like Bottom and then listen to a song or two from each album.
One reviewer called them the final boss of rock music. I always thought that was appropriate.
OPIATE first comment to mention my favorite TOOL track! must listen! Nough said
That is the single greatest thing I e ever heard describe TOOL
For personal reasons the Lateralus album is my favorite. It got me through some hard times. But as a general rule there are no bad Tool songs. Minus the transition tracks cause those are more for the people who listen to the whole album start to finish. Their earlier stuff is more raw and heavy and they evolve album to album. Im sure you are getting plenty of suggestions already so I will refrain and simply wish you good vibes on this journey you are about to take. Enjoy!
Welcome to The Tool Army!
🤘🤟🤘🤟🤘🤟🤘🤟🤟
yo dude you seem like a real person. i loved your vibe during this. tool is special and so are you my dude.
Tool sub here. Recommend:
Schism, 46 and 2, vicarious, lateralus
But you honestly can't go wrong with any tool song
Pneuma, Parabola, and Lateralus are all good songs to listen to while pondering existence. Everyone's gonna recommend the live drum cam for Pneuma, but it's not good for a first reaction because of the mix... do the studio version first so you can rinse in the whole experience, THEN enjoy the drum cam after.
totally agree, gotta work your way up to Fear Innoculum
loved your reaction man! my fav tool song is Right in 2, can't wait to see your reaction
I looooove your reaction to this. Welcome to the world of Tool. Keep going!!!!
What do you say to someone that just heard Tool for the first time? There's two things I think most often when I see that look of "where has this band been all my life" shine in their eyes. Firstly, I am a little jealous because you only get to experience everything for the first time once and there are few things that can massage your soul like the journey a single Tool song can give you. Secondly, I think, welcome to the Tool Army...welcome to the family, we've been waiting for you, now drink the Kool-Aid because it is cult following for Tool. Almost to a fault if I am being honest, because I am like many people, I get very turned off of something if I have someone really insisting and pushing me to try something because they love it so much and expect me to love it like they do, it puts me in a defensive posture and I immediately look for things about it to hate just to shut up Mr. or Ms. overzealous and I've heard several stories of people that experienced exactly that by one of our Tool Army allies that just loves too hard and that caused them to ignore the band for most of their life or just not even willing to give them a try ever. Lucky for me I found tool accidentally on my own in a car stereo shop around 22 years ago, it was a store called Car Stereo City and the song Aenema came on the local rock station they had playing on one of the displays. They had the sound up loud for obvious reasons and that song just kicked so much ass I was instantly hooked, I ran out and bought that CD immediately. It is one of very times I can recall the experience the very moment it happened like it was yesterday. It ranks with the first time I got laid and the day 9/11 happened, they all made a huge impact on me, either positive or negative but they were life altering moments, each for their own reasons.
Great story! Thanks for sharing 🛠🤘🏼
Tool is the child of Pink Floyd and Rush. A natural progression from those legends.
Welcome to the rabbit hole. It only gets better. Much love.
Its amazing how listening to this song 14 year or however long later it still sounds fresh as a daisy. And watching someone's genuine reaction is like experiencing it again for yourself. When this album came out i'm pretty sure it was in my CD player for a year.
Yeah you're going to like everything bruh. They've never made anything that wasn't unique and creative. Lovely you have a bit of a blueprint and just involves climaxes and buildups and seamless time signature changes
Glad to be here for your journey :)
Ok, here we go! Another first timer Tool ride! You're in for a treat!
This never gets old. When the guitar riff let's loose it just splits em wide open and BOOM! Another Tool fan is born. Welcome home.
My man, loving watching you discover and get blown away by a band I love
TOOL Is An Experience. Love Your Reaction And Keep Up The Great Work Brother!
Get ready to spiral out, my dude. Tool is an amazing experience. There’s so much amazingness to uncover and each listen gives you another thing to discover.
You’re going to love your Tool journey. 🤘
I love watching people react to bands I've loved and listen to for years and love them. It's great 😊
WELCOME to the world of tool my friend. cant wait to see the next one! and also Pantera.
I love First Time TOOL reactions! Welcome to the Tool Army!
So glad your musical journey brought you to Tool. The rabbit hole that is this group is incredible. Once your consciousness exits the other side, you will be more enlightened than ever thought. Spiral out.
Best Tool reaction I've ever seen.
TOOL ARMY HERE 🖤❤ Agree with other posts, watching someone discover Tool for the 1st time never gets old!!! 46&2, Sober, Schism, Ænema, The Grudge, Prison Sex... list goes on and on and on!! Enjoy this rabbit hole 🕳 Love you! 😘
Tool -- Stinkfist You won't be disappointed!!!! Welcome to the Tool Army my friend!
"I don't know this band. I don't know a thing about Tool."
Me: Oh this gonna be goooooood.
Agreed with many commenters....listen, hear, listen again, apply it to your life, and it WILL certainly be appreciated. That's the most magnificent thing about Maynard and Tool, is the ability to be vague enough, yet hit so many struggles. F**king beautiful! Props all day and unites us all! Much love..
Glad to see you get it brother. They are unmatched.
welcome my friend ✌️Always good to have another fan.
5 mins in and I'm subscribed. You get it, man. You get Tool right away, I did too. By the first chorus of the first song I ever heard, I was hooked ("Opiate", in the mid-90's).
Listen to "Right In Two", "Forty-Six and Two", "Sober", "Stinkfist", "Aenema".
To start with.
I absolutely love videos like this, seeing people's eyes widen, and the inevitable stank-face when Justin's baseline kicks in, or Adam starts to really work it. But Danny might be the most talented of them all. The "Pneuma" drum-cam video is my Exhibit A.
Congratulations, welcome to the party!
Nice watching you discover Tool…Great talk Dude!
I know this is a bit late, but watching you react to Tool made me sub. I've been in the Tool army for over 10 years, and they never disappoint! Neither do you l see..
The Grudge or Lateralus have to be one of your next Tool reactions! I’m so excited for the ride you about to go on brother! Enjoy! And yes gotta pull up lyrics for these songs! A new Tool fan is made!
Here for the Tool journey!
Welcome to the TOOL army, brother.
Subscribed for the Tool reactions!!!
43k views. No wonder everyone reacts to Tool. Glad to see it. They are masters of their art.
The love is mutual. Love your channel, brother. You forayed into a passionate fan base with this one. Us Tool fans are relentless, to say the least, but I would argue this band has earned that passion. Check out "Right inTwo" as well. Read the lyrics on that one as you go. Amazing on every level.
Aayyeeee🙏🤘
You earned a sub for this reaction. I loved your smile when you realized what you were listening to…
Welcome to the family, brother! 💚🖤
Dude your style is top notch. Also your reaction is killer
The bass and drums together after that first verse is so unexpected and yet after many listens, it's arguably my favorite part of the song. True musicianship at work, not flashy, but it is beyond fucking groovy. The rhythm is un matched.
Love seeing your reaction. Welcome to the world of Tool. Check out the songs Lateralus and Jambi. And for some live Tool, Pneuma is a must. Can't wait to see more Tool reactions.
That "switching" they do is basically what progressive rock or metal is. There isn't really your typical verse chorus verse structure to the songs. It's more like several different pieces of music perfectly blended into one song. That's the complexity of it.
It is so much fun to Watch someone hear Tool for the first time. Welcome to the journey.
Right in two....with lyrics.... amazing
It was really great to experience each new Tool album as they came out. The albums are amazing start to finish and they just got more amazing as time went on
I also appreciate the fact that you understand that each individual player is a badass in their own right! And they come together as a group and it's magnificent!
Bro, much love fam, welcome to the rabbithole, it's psychedelic on our side
