Banks Monster Ram Air Intake Installation

- The all new Monster-Ram intake elbow for the 6.7L Cummins in your Ram lives up to its name. It is an absolute MONSTER. The Monster-Ram improves airflow from the intercooler. It flows 72.7 lbs/min with Banks’ New Coil Heater and High-Flow Billet Intake Plate compared to stock's 38.6 lbs/min MAF. That is a huge 88.3% improvement over stock you can feel! The proprietary design raises boost without increasing back-pressure at the turbine. The result is improved engine response, efficiency, and headroom for daily driving and heavy hauling. The secret to the Monster-Ram's performance is not just airflow, but the quality and literal weight of the air it flows. Your Cummins engine is limited in the volume of air it can flow through its 6 cylinders even at max RPM. By increasing the mass of the air delivered to each cylinder, your stock-tuned engine will breathe more efficiently with less stress and set the stage for huge power gains when stacked with a tune.
About to install mine next weekend. Thanks for the video!
Awesome. It’s intimidating but in the end not bad at all.
Thanks for sharing. I plan on doing this to my 2012 once my slush fund is replenished. Great video!
I think it’s well worth the investment considering the alternative if the grid heater fails.
Nice installation
Thank you.
Thanks for video. waiting on the egr kit to come in and i'm doing it all at one time. Also doing the ccv filter why its apart. Got delayed waiting for the cp3 recall to be done and its done so its time to let it breath. I'm stoked to get the monster installed and get rid of the grid heater.
Outstanding. It’s not crazy to do, just be careful of the fuel rail pressure sensor. Def clears up the engine bay too.
Thanks for the video! I have a 2015 6.7 and installed the Monster Ram about a month ago, very happy with the result! Where did you pick up the delete kit?
By the way, thanks for your service! I'm a retired MSG.
That’s awesome. Hopefully your install went better than mine and didn’t break your rail sensor. The delete kit came from Flashark.
Great video. Any recommended special tools? Looks like you didn't have any trouble with the fuel lines, other than being careful with the sensor.
Nothing special, other than a torque wrench. It was a lot easier than I thought, I had the kit over a month before putting it on.
NIce job. I had the Banks upgrade done to my 2017. I wimped out and had my mechanic do it for me: about $700.00 labor for the install. I was afeared my back wouldn't hold up: broke it years ago and got some fusion going on.I did mine for the grid heater stud/nut issue that will trash the $30,000.00 engine.
The grid heater blowing up my engine is why I wanted to get rid of it. I went with the Banks because it did that, bigger air horn and the integrated glow plug. I only found one other option for heating up the air and it was a space with a threaded hole for a glow plug.
@@chiefyoung I had that happen to my 2017...after some great dissatisfaction on my part (bitching to the dealership) they "only" charged me $2800 but said it would take 2 days to get the engine, 2 days to install it....42 days later I get my truck back. The rental car cost me $4000. so total was $6800. So far I had the turbo go out twice, the turbo actuator once and a multitude of other engine issues....Do you think I got a lemon?...lol Oh they quoted me $32,000 for a new (remanufactured) engine. When I was flipping through the paper work, when picking up my truck, I saw an email from the Ram representative to the dealer on the price..$17,500 for the engine I took a picture because they wouldn't let me have the paperwork...Then they wanted me to delete the picture...I did but recovered it as soon as I left.....I will never buy anything from that dealership again ( I have bought 2 new Rams in the past).....Won't name the dealership but it was somewhere between Roseville and Grass Valley. Soooo long story short...Once the warranty is up on this engine I will be putting in the Banks.....You can bank on that!
Small issue here. When working on cars you want to remove the "Negative terminal" first not the positive. .If your vehicle has a negative ground, prevents arcing. And remember ...Positive goes on FIRST ,comes off LAST, Great job btw, awesome intake!
Valid point, got wrapped up in the moment and forgot the basics. LOL
Looks cool, but at a pretty high cost and a lot of work. If you think you're going to actually feel or see a performance difference without other modifications, you're sadly mistaken. That is, unless you're subject to the placebo effect. LOL. On the plus side, it does eliminate the possibility of that grid bolt falling into your intake, but there are much less expensive ways to accomplish that. I'll give Gale credit for one thing, he's a helluva salesman. ;-)
My reason for this install was solely to get rid of the grid heater but I still wanted a way to heat the incoming air for cold season starts. The Banks kit was the only kit I could find with that option.
@@chiefyoung Also, if it matters, I think its the only intake elbow that is CARB certified. For California residents Im sure this is a big plus. I also wanted the option to still heat the air because I travel north often.
@@chiefyoung Lastly, LOVE that Maui Brewing Co. Bikini Blonde was my favorite.
CARB has no effect on me since I don’t live in CA. Maui Brewing has some good beers, I prefer the Coconut Hiwa.
Looks good, what other plans for the truck?
3” lift, black wheeled and bedliner for sure. Looking into the Bank Cold Air Intake.
So you installed a few block-off plates. Which ones exactly? I see EGR. Tuning would be required.
The plates are on top of the exhaust manifold, I’m not sure which, they’re all pretty basic designs. To do the EGR delete you do have to do a tune.
did you notice any loss in boost pressure increasing the intake size like that, just wondering because iam looking at Banks intake as well.
I haven’t noticed any issues with boost at all. Made it sound deeper and throatier too.
You bring this truck from the states or did you buy it out there?
Brought it with. Bought it new in VA while in WOBC.
Other than waiting for a new part…how many hours do you think I should plan for the installation?
Depends on your skill level and tools you have available. It took me total about 5hrs of actual wrench turning.
So did u have to tune it after this seems to be missing on these videos
No tune required for it. For the install the only change electronically is the hot wire from the grid heater to the glow plug.
So I could install on a bone stock 6.7 Cummins? Would it throw any codes?
No codes. It’s setup as an upgrade. A lot easier to install than expected too. Just be careful of the fuel rail pressure sensor on the back when you’re taking it apart.
Chief, was it worth the time and money? What did you notice as far as power or even sound?
I did it as an investment to prevent the grid heater bolt from dropping into the cylinders. I haven’t any difference in power but the sound is a bit deeper, more throaty. You can get away with only replacing the grid heater plate but I wanted to make sure I still had a heat source for those cooler days.
I ordered my kit today. I swear I felt the slightest movement on the grid heater wire. Can't wait till it has an "18" and is in the mail box.
Good luck. They changed it to “19” recently. lol
Ran out of numbers. Never thought about it happening.
Thanks for the content.
Anytime.
can you send a link to that Fuel sensor part you ordered on Amazon please?
This is the one I ordered. I think it’s linked on the video of me replacing it too.

How did it turn out? Any issues?
Only issue was when I broke the fuel rail pressure sensor. Other than that it’s a very straight forward process and only took a few hours. Definitely cleans up the engine bay too.
roughly the time to install?
Honestly wasn’t bad at all. Only sucked breaking that pressure sensor and having to wait a week for it to arrive.
No issues deleting all the egr stuff?
None at all.
I think the year you installed on is no longer CARB certified. So, technically not legal anymore. The install will eventually cause a P2609 code which Banks is troubleshooting. California pulled the certification.
Thanks for sharing that info for others to read. Hopefully it helps them make an informed decision on this kit.
Does it void the warranty?
I honestly don’t know. You would need to ask Banks. I’m way out of warranty and wanted to make sure the grid heater wasn’t going to cause me issues.
how's the gas mileage and over all power
I currently live on an island so mileage is skewed and no real option to see a power change but it did change the sound a little. I’m sure it did gain power since the new horn is bigger and flows much better.
can you give us an update on how shes going?
I can do that. Anything particular you’d like to know?
@@chiefyoung just overall impressions, thoughts and would you do it differently?
I’ll see what I can do.
If your turbo ever gives out get a cheetah drop in turbo
Thank you. I’m hoping not to have anymore issues since replacing the actuator.
ill go another route..a thousand $$$$$
There are many other options but not sure if they have the glowplug to replace the grid heater.
Why did you buy the kit with the EGR when you could had got the cheaper delete kit since you deleted
The kit only came with the intake horn and plate.
What toolbox is that?
I have several toolboxes, unsure which one you’re referring to.
Slipped in a sneakky little delete without sayin nothin dont forget to delete that pesky throttle valve too!
The electronic delete happened a month after I bought the truck. I just did the physical delete while I was under the hood doing the ram air kit.
